We had pre ordered the duck press and it exceeded any expectations we had. The duck was so tender and rich, we ordered a side of gratin dauphinois which was more than enough, especially since the duck came with a side of lovely roasted vegetables. The portion is more than enough for two people and I don’t say that lightly, my partner is a chef and even he was surprised how good value everything was. I thought it was great how they had a little green box next to all the wines that they thought would go with the duck press, it made it really easy to pick what to have. I celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday at Reine and flew here from Sydney with the plan of leaving same day just to have lunch here after reading the reviews and seeing how beautiful this venue was. The food was mostly amazing with the exception of the duck not being particularly crispy. Would recommend the blue fin tuna, spanner crab crumpet, Scallop, chestnut & kombu hollandaise, caper, and the duck liver and foie gras, and ice cream! However, one event that happened deeply upset us and it left a bad taste in our mouths whilst leaving. After lunch, we wanted to get a few photos with the venue as we previously asked to get a photo together from the waitstaff however the photo did not show the venue accurately and cut off the ceiling (which is beautiful and a centrepiece!). Additionally the staff was nice to ask us to move in a certain direction to the left to try and reposition us however when we accidentally misheard and took a few steps in front, she loudly retorted and in a rude way that she said to the left as if we couldn’t understand her when we misheard her which is incredibly rude! We wanted to get a few quick individual photos before we left as we didn’t want to disturb the ambience and other guests. However, 3 photos (1 minute in!), one of the staff told us that we were unable to get more photos as we were disturbing the other guests. I was deeply astonished as despite eating at so many fine dining restaurants, I have never been told such a thing a minute into a photo! The worst thing was that I was unable to take a photo for my boyfriend even though he was celebrating his birthday in front of the beautiful venue. We agreed to stop taking photos straight away as we do respect the ambience of the place and do not want to disturb the other guests however as we were leaving I noticed the same staff eying us down and staring as if what we did was a crime and extremely rude. It made us feel very unwelcome despite the previously beautiful service and food paired with the wonderful venue. It would be great in the future if we weren’t allowed to take photos individually or if disturbing other guests was the issue to have the staff offer to take a quick photo instead when they see their guests taking photos instead just telling the guests to leave because we were disturbing others and staring in such a rude way until we left even though we agreed to leave straight away.

The staff asked if I want the dishes to be served together or one at a time which was considerate. The entrée I had was a freshly baked gratinated seafood volute with two large prawns and scallops; it was rich and creamy but not too heavy. If you’re looking for value for money, you came to the right place: a large amount of food for $89! It was an amazingly strong start out of the gate with the Beef Tartare XO sauce: honestly the best tartare I’ve ever tasted; the XO flavour combined with the beef and egg yolk was exquisite. Dessert was definitely not for me. We arrived during a busy period and were looking forward to a leisurely meal (I believe we were entitled to a two hour session). However, they just kept pumping the courses out and when I asked if they could Please slow down, the answer was a straight out NO. My goodness, from the moment we walked into the door to the moment we walked out, the experience was next level. I have anaphylaxis to diary and an allergy to gluten and miso so trying to find places to eat, especially high end, is very hard. We planned on popping in for just a drink and nibbles but ended up staying for hours and having many drinks and so much food. Our lovely server (I think her name was Cartier) made me feel so comfortable and was extremely understanding of my allergies. I am so grateful for the effort the team made, it really warms my heart when I’m treated so nicely at a restaurant despite having complicated allergies. Tuesday nights are great as the steaks are 50% off. We appreciate the quality of the service from Frank, he knew the menu inside out and was able to give us tasteful recommendations for our entrees, steaks and drinks. Ordered four snacks to start and a wagyu MS7+ porterhouse from the special board. All the snacks were tasty. Favourite was the anchovy on toast; the combination of salty anchovy, vinegary pickled shallots, creamy stracciatella, juicy tomato and crispy melba toast worked very well. The tiger prawn was also nicely cooked and flavour packed. For the main dish, the wagyu steak was cooked perfectly medium rare; it was tender without the rough grainy texture and the meat juice was sealed properly giving it a nice beefy flavour. However there wasn't a lot of intramuscular fat in the steak so it felt like eating a marble score 4+ instead of 7+. It was still a very good steak and for half price I was fine with it. Fries were also nice and crispy. For dessert, had the chocolate fondant which was sweet and decadent, plenty of chocolate oozing out and the candied hazelnuts was a good addition. Service was great and the staffs were very friendly, they even offered additional cutleries for the snacks in case I don't want to mix the flavours which was a nice gesture.

He did however bring our dishes, explain what they were and topped our wine. For me, he could have been friendlier. We had the set menu which did not disappoint. When we arrived, we started the evening at the bar with some delicious cocktails prepared with a spectacular show, along with an excellent selection of cocktails and wines. The place itself is luxurious, beautiful, and with a unique atmosphere. Tim, took great care of us throughout the night, giving recommendations and making sure everything was perfect. Thanks to him and the entire Bisou Bar team, the celebration was unforgettable, and the birthday guest felt truly special. Complimentary baguette was served which was nice and crispy, not tough at all. The French onion soup was seasoned with quite a lot of herbs which tasted like oregano and the vinegary flavour was a bit too strong, but the partially submerged croutons baked with gruyere cheese was good. The crab croquettes with aioli from the chef's special menu was very creamy with a thin delicate crumbed coating, topped with some shaved cheese for extra flavour which was tasty. Had the wagyu rump steak accompanied with a grilled prawn (was informed the king crab leg is unavailable) for main and it was cooked to medium rare as requested. Steak was tender but it did not have much marbling for a marble score 8/9; the red wine jus was nice but the steak itself could be seasoned a bit more. Still a good steak but just not what I had expected. Prawn was tasty with the garlic herb butter. For dessert, had the mi-cuit au chocolat which is a sweet and decadent molten chocolate cake which paired perfectly with the cherry vanilla ice cream. Overall a decent meal with good pacing and the staff was friendly and polite.

The dishes were creative and playful — like mustard ice cream with tuna, and banana paired with oyster. Definitely not your typical fine dining lineup. While I really appreciated the bold concepts, the elements didn’t quite land for us. Some dishes felt a little overcomplicated or lacking balance. The chicken was slightly overcooked, the duck was quite chewy, bread was too dense for my liking and the pumpkin dessert didn’t have the depth we were hoping for. Presentation was beautiful and the service was lovely throughout. The wine pairing, however, didn’t quite complement the dishes as well as we expected. Malin has a lot of potential, and I admire the creative ambition. But at $150 per person, the food needs more refinement to match the price point.

The six course was quite substantial and includes most of the dishes from the ala carte. The meal started off with olives and sourdough bread, lightly torched scallop paired with grapes, and a tartlet with fermented cabbage and soft cheese. All the starters were great; the scallop was fresh and the mild cheese complements the sour cabbage. The entrée was a blue fin tuna dish with mustard ice cream and three colour sauce (can't remember what they were). The dish looks too good to eat and at the same time sounds unusual but it was actually tasty; the sauce was savoury and a little spicy and citrusy, and the cold sensation from the mustard ice cream works well with the raw tuna. The ice cream itself was not that sweet and the mustard flavour was subtle. The highlight was the first main dish; the ballotine chicken filled with mushroom duxelles was flavour packed, rich and buttery; and the side of crispy fried chicken skin added a nice contrasting texture to the dish. The second main dish was also solid; duck breast paired with a concentrated coq au vin sauce, smooth and buttery celeriac puree, poached sweet quince, and a lollipop duck croquette. Pre-dessert was diced banana and oyster, caramel sauce and ice cream, topped with a thin banana crisp; was skeptical but the flavours and textures worked; sweet, creamy and a little salty. Finally for dessert, had the chocolate gavotte which was not too sweet; pretty good. The only minus was the long wait time for desserts, but overall a great dining experience; food was very tasty, innovative and beautifully plated, and the staff was very friendly and engaging.
