We used our Tastecard, which made the whole visit excellent value for money, but the quality of the food and service easily stood out on their own. Starters arrived quickly, the dough balls were perfectly baked, soft in the centre with just the right golden crust. For mains we ordered a meat feast pizza, a classic margherita, gamberoni pasta, and the spicy sausage pasta, along with the festive Christmas pizza. Everything came out piping hot, full of flavour, and cooked exactly as it should be. Drinks were ice cold and regularly checked without us ever needing to ask. Ashley really added to the experience. She was genuinely friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and kept the whole meal running smoothly from start to finish. Her timing, manner, and overall approach made the evening feel relaxed and enjoyable. All in all, a great meal, great service, and very reasonable pricing. It was fairly nice, clean and tidy, but the only couple of downsides there were, was a couple of the forks weren't as clean as they should be. Also, even though there was a good variety of food on the menu, I only ended up with a bowl of chips, as there wasn't really any food of my interest on the menu. If only Banger's and Mash for both Adults and kids was on the menu, I would've gone for that. I had a lovely Apple and Berry Crumble for dessert, which was really nice. Don't get me wrong, the Dessert Menu was lovely! It's just ashame the Main Menu itself didn't have more interesting food listed on it. Apart from those couple of downsides, we had a good evening. The staff seemed Friendly, helpful and a little rushed off their feet due to busy times, but they did everything they could well. I'm sure we'll be returning again sometime in the future. Overall, I give The Wrekin Giant a 4/5 Star Rating. 😀

A fantastic menu with a great array of choices of food, with plenty of excellent deals. A very good drinks menu, with lovely choices of cocktails and much more. Me and my son went and ordered starters and mains, the starters must have taken 45 mins plus to arrive and when the did I have boneless chicken and it was cold so they took it back and obviously put it in the microwave so it came back warm but rubbery so tried to eat a little. My son had garlic bread and that was just warm but he ate it as was starving. Then another 45 mins plus the mains arrived and oh dear it was awful. My son had chicken fingers and chips and he said that was okay but I had the tgi burger and when I day it was burnt I mean it was black and hard and everything tasted of burn and was inedible. Don't get me wrong they took my food off the bill and offered to also remake my main but I was then put off it and didn't want to wait another 1hr for my main. I also got a free dessert and that was lovely and I wish I just had 3 desserts instead lol. The manager apologised and said they had more tables than expected so we're busy but it really wasn't that busy and that doesn't justify the burger I got. We were gutted as until today we have never had one complaint about here but today was awful from start to finish. Also another 4 tables complained in our area and only 5 tables were in use and the last table had just sat down. I felt terrible for the waitress as she was lovely and couldn't apologies or do enough for us. Doubt we will go again as think it may have changed hands l.

Staff were friendly and welcoming and attentive. We ordered steak and mash and a kids burger. The kids burger was OK, came with corn and garlic bread, no complaints and I didn't try it myself. The steak was a little overdone, I'd asked for it medium but was tasty none the less. My mash came out warm in parts but quite cold in another. I raised this with a member of staff straight away, who apologised and went away to sort it. The Chef then came over with a fresh helping of mash potato and personally apologised for the first mash and said he would take our desserts off the menu as an apology for this. I really appreciated him coming over to offer an in person apology rather than getting another member of staff to come over. It went a long way and was very professional. The mash aside the rest of the meal was good. We had a kids create your own sundae and a key lime pie. Both were very nice and presented well. As mentioned above, the mash potato aside, the service was very good and the food was good. I'd go back and give it another try and recommend people try it. We enjoyed the decor and songs playing.

Despite the emptyness, we were there for over an hour for the 3 of us. When we we eventually served our food (after a second waitress took our order due to the first one forgetting) It came out cold, and I mean a child could touch it and say it was cold. We sent our first dish back to be warmed up, a simple mac n cheese which was promptly microwaved and bought back. The 3 mains we ordered were all rather cold with the chips feeling like they'd been sat for hours. We ordered said Mac n Cheese as a side dish and were surprised how big it was. Turns out they'd charged us for the main dish (£16.99) rather than the side (£5.49). We also ordered loaded fries as a replacement for the fries on one of our dishes (as suggested on the menu) Again this was not followed and was instead bought out as a full priced side (£7.49) as opposed to a supplement charge on the dish. I, myself, wanted to order the Ham Hock, but it turns out they didn't have any and we were not made aware upon being seated and had to make a quick choice of a cold burger and fries instead. To top it all off the waitress that didn't bother coming back to take our order didn't seem in the greatest mood either. Short review: The restaurant was as colder inside than it was outside, the service was slow, the food was as cold as the restaurant itself, and its incredibly overpriced (even if we were charged correctly, which we werent) Our friend usually tips in EVERY restaurant despite how the food tastes or how bad the service is. We can't fault the staff who were really friendly especially the young guy who checked us in. But the rooms are extremely basic and as mentioned by other reviews they have cobwebs, and are not particularly clean. Our first night after having a lovely meal out we decided to try to go to sleep around 11.30pm as we were out early morning after breakfast for a spot of fishing on the river, however the music was pounding till 1 am . This was unbearable...and if we had 3 hours sleep that was it. Breakfast was ok, but we decided to pack up and leave a day early. This place is very tired, and needs a complete refurb. I strongly advise not to stop here especially if you actually want to sleep! I don't understand how they are getting away with this late night noise pollution especially in such a beautiful, stunning location, I hope they get done for it very soon. Don't waste your money staying here...there are other clean,. friendly and very quiet places away from this hole. This is no reflection on the staff who we found very friendly and worked extremely hard.. but obviously a management problem. Also forgot to mention that our bathroom which was over a hallway had no place to hang out towels to dry and also the doors were very noisy to go to the loo in the night. Generally a really bad experience.. avoid!!

We were taken to our room which was a nice touch and told about local services if we needed them. Our room overlooked the courtyard, really good size and we had a bathroom with own shower. Nice touch with the free toiletries and we had a fan in our room which was a good addition! You get left with a key to the fire door if you're back late which again is great and don't feel you are restricted to a curfew. They don't have parking but we parked on the museum and just extended. Tip: take a photo of the QR code so you can extend without walking back to the car. We had a drink in the courtyard after check in which was such a sun trap and we really felt relaxed there. Good choice of drinks available. Slept really well in the room and the pub is on the whole quiet after closing times. In the morning we were welcomed to our table and we could help ourselves to cereal and yoghurt. The orange juice was a nice touch. I know there was water available but maybe a suggestion to put these next to the yogurts if people need it. There's no breakfast menu and it sounded the only choice was a full English. I'm sure you could ask for anything and they would have made it as the server was so attentive but maybe offering a menu or a choice as some people don't like to ask in case they feel awkward. The breakfast was delicious. Generous portion and you could have extra tea/coffee and toast if needed. We were asked if we wanted marmalade or sauces which is taken from the kitchen. Probably a good idea to put this on a table so people can help themselves? Wasn't a massive issue though. On the whole we had a lovely stay and we would stay again!

It's tucked away by The Museum of Iron. We walked into a bright, airy and cool industrial café. The furniture is funky and comfy. My son and I chose a table. So the large room has a high ceiling, paved floors and no soft furnishings which makes for an extremely noisy experience, voices and scraping chairs echoing round, not comfortable at all. We arrived without having booked (silly us - definitely recommend booking a table!) but we were told they could fit us in, and I'm so glad they could. The prawn toast was unlike any I've ever had. Super crispy, fresh and moist. For our mains we had the beef pad krapow (off the specials board) and the prawn pad thai. Once at the Elephant crossing the welcome is warm and friendly, the service is second to none and the atmosphere is fantastic. Chloe was our hostess and she couldn't have been more helpful, she was bubbly and attentive and definitely a credit to the venue. The restaurant has a beautiful outside terraced area with excellent views across the river. Staff were a bit hit or miss. Walking in I was encouraged by the bottles of Cholula on the table. However if you’ve eaten tacos in Mexico or throughout the southwestern USA you may find that the whole the menu looks interesting the fusion falls slightly short ending with a mediocre meal - but at least it doesn’t break the budget. We had an amazing meal at the Elephant Crossing. We decided to recreate the platter and had multiple dishes. Our server recommended some of our dishes and she chose really well. The tacos and lollipops were especially tasty! We had a few mojitos too which were made fresh and complimented the food really well. We had probably over ordered but how can you not with the amount of tasty dishes there are. We went outside after for a drink. Great atmosphere outside with the lights and a great view of the gorge. We then went for food which was high quality and tasted phenomenal zero complaints, especially since we got a free drink since it was her birthday and we were celebrating! Staff in the spa were helpful and friendly. Facilities were very clean and just great. I had the Revitalising exfoliating massage treatment for 50 minutes by Leah. This was a brilliant experience and the very friendly Leah was very adept and thorough. Later we ate in the busy restaurant where we were again greeted and served by friendly helpful staff. Our fabulous meals arrived swiftly and we thoroughly enjoyed them. My daughter devoured her Gluten Free fish and chips as I did my ribeye steak. The facilities were clean, well maintained, and the light lunch was great. One thing we weren’t aware of when booking was that a children’s swimming club was taking place during our visit. It did make the pool area a little noisy, and we didn’t have full access to the pool for a while. Had we known in advance, we probably would’ve chosen a different day. After looking at the menus available and having an 11yr old and a 14yr old in tow, we decided that the Sunday lunchtime menu had something for everyone. It did not disappoint. I had a mackerel scotch egg starter with a mango chutney and curried mayonnaise. My wife had chicken liver parfait with almond bread. My main was pork belly with pear and black pudding. The two ladies were kept best busy all night but were superb. £30 for two courses or £38 for three courses... and worth every penny. The panini was very tasty too, it came with lovely homemade coleslaw, salad and tortilla chips. I was full from the garnish let alone the panini! Steeped in history this restaurant is in the old police station and court house. You can eat in the old courthouse making it quite unique. The reviews on here are extremely positive and as soon as we saw the outside of the cafe we could see why. We walked up the short flight of stairs and found a sweet little seating area. All the tables were full but a lovely gentleman called us over to join him and his wife because he didn't want us missing out on this lovely place. We ordered the chocolate brownies and hot chocolates and they arrived promptly. The waitress was polite and courteous. The brownie was the best I've had and the hot chocolate was delicious. I loved the artwork hung around the place. It is a very sweet cafe and definitely worth a visit.

On the night of my first day of stay I had dinner at Aftab. The host was named Ahmed. Ahmed is a nice man. A local came by for a takeout (in England it is take-away). Ahmed seems to know his regular customers well. I ordered a prawn dish, a cauliflower & potato dish, and garlic nam. Ahmed made a few suggestions. The food was great. I enjoyed the flavors. We discussed the relationship between the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. There seems to be tensions between Hindus and Muslims of the Indian Subcontinent. Like China the people of the Indian Subcontinent have an ancient culture, blood rivalries, and cultural divisions. People of under-developed countries need to understand that it is in their own interest to live in peace with their neighbors so their country can be stable. We were greeted by a friendly young man who gave us a history of the place. It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be much footfall in this part of Ironbridge in the evening. Food is freshly cooked and the chef obviously loves his job. The menu is varied, and nothing seems to be too much trouble. It's a sign of the times that people will eat mass produced rubbish which will probably cost more than the exquisitely flavoured delights that this place offers. At the moment, there is no alcohol licence, however you can bring your own, much like many other restaurants of this type. People of Ironbridge, please don't lose this fantastic little restaurant, your town will be much poorer should you lose it. I recommend the sheek kebab as a starter, followed by the lamb biryani. My much better half had aloo ghobi, tarka dhal and rice which she really enjoyed. It is obvious that different dishes are cooked separately, none of the generic sauce which is usually used.

We had a lovely day out with our young children and chose The Golden Ball Inn based on its 4.5-star reviews. Sadly, the reality could not have been further from that. We ordered steak with peppercorn sauce, onion rings, chips, and two pizzas (Margherita and chicken & BBQ). The pizzas were overcooked, one so badly the crust was rock solid and inedible. I tried a couple of slices and politely raised the issue with the young male bar staff (in his twenties), even showing him the crust. He said he would speak to the chef but never returned. The lack of communication left me frustrated. When I went to pay, he tried to charge me for the full bill of £54, including the pizzas. When I refused, he became defensive, dictating what I “would” pay, even claiming that if I’d eaten any pizza, I would have to pay. How dare he dictate to a customer? His behaviour was shocking and is the main reason I am writing this review. The chef (a woman in her 50s) came out after being called. I showed her the burnt pizza crusts, which my children had refused to eat. She dismissed my concerns, claiming “this is how they always come out” and still expected payment. Handling our food after serving during a dispute only reinforced that no customer should pay for it. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, food must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. These pizzas were not. I was fully within my legal rights to refuse payment and even offered to leave my details if they wanted to pursue the matter in small claims court — not meet me with arrogance and hostility at the bar. I paid only for the items that were acceptable (steak, onion rings, chips), but instead of professionalism, I was met with defensiveness, hostility, and effectively told I was “not welcome back.” This ruined our evening so much that I didn’t eat anything at all afterwards. Even if the food had been excellent, the staff’s behaviour alone would have spoiled it. They would not take feedback on board and only acted when I insisted repeatedly. As we entered the lovely lady (didn’t get her name) told us where everything was and we got seated to look through the menu. First impressions were not the best the bar tender was most interested in taking our payment rather than serving our drinks and was rather unwelcoming. We were advised there was no change therefore we were forced to leave her with the change (£7.81) which were not impressed with. Thankfully the weather was lovely for a Saturday in November so we decided to sit outside. We then met Jade as she was clearing tables from previous customers. Her customer service, genuine interest and happy nature shone through and turned the experience all the way around. She engaged with us, informed us that they were a hotel, informed us of the latest refurbishment and swotted us up on the Christmas events calendar - even given us her personal recommendations from the menu, offered to take photographs of our party and took a genuine interest in speaking with us. She had us all in fits of laughter (and all of the other customers seemed to be in total awe of her) just what I needed after a rendering diagnosis I have recently received. We were 11 in our group and our first stop was to have lunch at The Water Rat Inn. This place is in an amazing location near to the Iron bridge.The restaurant is really good with very nice seating inside, outside and in the ground overlooking the river and another bridge. Plenty of free parking available on site.One can walk along the river to the famous Iron bridge which we all did after having lunch. Talking about Lunch, we were seated inside with nice ambience overlooking the car park and grounds next to river and bridge. The staff were very welcoming and helpful in talking our food and drinks orders. The price is reasonable. When the food was served, it looked so appealing to look at and good potion sizes. All items eaten were really tasty and delicious. We did not have room for dessert (may be next time) Thank you to all the staff for looking after us and the service provided. We definitely recommend this place to all and will definitely return.

No one greeted us when we walked in; we were ignored until we asked for our table (we’d booked ahead). Three main courses came at the same time, but my dad’s burger eventually came half an hour later. (We were told because it had to be made fresh? Surely all the food would need to be made fresh?) He asked to have it wrapped to take away since we were all done with lunch. It was taken away and when we didn’t receive it back we asked where it was, turns out they’d thrown it away by mistake and had to cook another one from scratch. So another half hour wait. They took the burger off the bill, but that didn’t make up for the disappointing experience from start to finish. Only one staff member was apologetic about everything. Really regret choosing this as a lunch spot and won’t be visiting again.

The gravy was the best I have tasted. Lots of sides and extra gravy without asking too! Very impressed. They do put a service charge on your bill but you can ask for it to be removed.
