I understand the pricing being a small local place with small batch ice creams but $11 for a milkshake just for it to be that small was a difficult pill to swallow, quality aside. I tried the breakup cookie milkshake and had it not Been for the price I would have turned around and got another. My partner had the June Coffee milkshake with caramel, it was hands down the best coffee flavor ice cream I’ve had in my whole life. The inside environment was incredible sterile and felt like a hospital, this is all personal preference going forward but I cared in no way for the decoration, or lack thereof. I just didn’t feel like the sterile all white minimalist design suited an ice cream spot, especially one of this caliber. All in all I would and will go back I just hope in the course of finding their legs they can come down on the prices just a bit and maybe liven up the decor. I have high hopes and nothing but love for this place and their vision and I hope I can increase my rating in the future!!

For my appetizer, I had the Wagyu beef carpaccio, which was cut thicker than I usually like, but tasty nonetheless. The pork shank had a great autumn feel to it with sweet potato’s, spaetzle, apples and collard greens. My girlfriend’s black grouper was expertly prepared with a variety of autumn vegetables, and the seven layer carrot cake for dessert was not overly sweet as is the case with many carrot cake recipes, but had just the right amount of spice. Located in a very cool little shopping district that is very dog friendly. Had to wait for 20 minutes as people were shuffling in and out to get their drinks and croissants. It was Sunday evening and we had been out at Talladega so places were starting to close. 5 Point was open till 10, the hostess said the wait for a table was about 30min so we headed over to the bar for a cocktail while we waited. The restaurant was maybe a 1/3 full and what little staff there were, including the bartender were on their toes trying to stay caught up. We waited about 15-20min for the bartender to slow down and get tickets caught up before she was able to acknowledge us. Near got a drink but the table was ready so we left that behind, sat down and began a great meal. The food here is mostly seafood as you'd expect, a couple other proteins, salads and some yummy appetizers. Our waitress was very attentive, the food delivery was pretty timely and we ended a great meal with some bread pudding. In visiting with our waitress, discussing the lack of staffing we learned that a restaurant that used to be open for lunch and dinner now can only open at 4pm for dinner because of a total lack of staff. I sincerely hope this employee situation corrects itself sooner than later. Of the 12-13 restaurants we wait at in downtown Birmingham at least 10 of them had staff shortages. Be patient, and make sure to enjoy some great New Orleans style seafood.

It was top on my list and I can say it didn’t disappoint. Inside is cute and the perfect amount of space with a few outside seats. The stay was super friendly and kind. I picked the pumpkin cheese cake cruffin, triple ginger cookie, snicker doodle cookie, and strawberry poptart. Cruffin was tender and delicious with ample filling. It’s thick and puffy so you’re expecting a filled pastry full of chunky strawberries and fruity delights. Instead you bite in and it’s a hallow cave inside about an inch thick of air with a tiny smear of strawberry jam at the bottom. Still nothing that we thought we could add flowers to and make it match her wedding colors. One of the young ladies at the counter went to get the manager and also I believe the Baker/decorator. We told her what happened and showed some of the pictures. It was so close to closing time so I would’ve totally understood if there was nothing that could be done. She asked me to wait so she can make a few phone calls to see if there’s anything that she could do to help or offer any advice. After she made a couple of phone calls and no one answered, she finally said you know, I can help. She asked for a little time and she came from the back with a beautiful a two tier cake. It was perfect. She also noticed on the cake that was ruined that my niece wanted a textured icing so she went the extra super Duper mile and textured the icing on the cake she made for us. We also purchased a chocolate cake for the grooms cake because it was also ruined. The kindness and support that the staff at this bakery provided us in the mist of a complete disaster was beautiful and heart warming. They could’ve easily said not our cake, not our problem plus it’s almost closing time but no, we were offered a solution and comfort. I am back in Dallas,TX now and I can’t stop telling everyone about our wonderful blessed experience. I am so sorry that I cannot remember the name of the wonderful lady that made the cake but she knows who she is and I really hope she shares her wonderfulness with everyone in the Edgar’s Bakery family and in Birmingham, Alabama. The largest disappointment was the cake. I completely understand the cake cutting fee. However, how the cake was cut, I would whether saved my feelings and dollars, and cut the cake in my car.
