I had the mussels which didn’t taste of much at all, the garlic white wine sauce just tasted like watered-down cream. My partner had the roast, the beef was nice but the Yorkshire pudding was overdone and tasted like it had been sat around for a while. My father-in-law had the fish and chips and while the chips were good, the batter was soggy instead of crispy. On the plus side, they do have a nice selection of non-alcoholic cocktails, but overall the food was very average and we wouldn’t come back.

We had the 8 course tasting menu with paired wines. Every course was outstanding. My particular favourites were the Morels, with confit egg yolk, pickled mushrooms and celeriac and the buttermilk mousse with blood orange, Arbequina olive oil and apple marigold. The restaurant is fairly small and cosy, all the waitresses were lovely and helpful. They explained the meals well and the sommelier's description of the wines was very clear and helpful. The wines tended to be from small estates all over the world and were excellent without exception. The meal was expensive, but compared to other Michelin starred restaurants we have been to, it was very good value for money. The restaurant is in Saltwood on the edge of Hythe and it is a good idea to book a taxi back to where you are staying in good time as there are no local taxi services. I have been to a good number of one Michelin star restaurants and this one is well worth the second start it gained recently.

We arrived around 7pm on a quiet Thursday night. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but the greeting was cold and unwelcoming. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and good menu. From the minute we walked in we was met by the supervisor and found her to be abrupt and rude from the offset. We were never asked again if we wanted another drink. When we were finished we asked the young lady if we needed to sign anything etc as we were finished and didn’t want to just walk off she said she would ask her supervisor which is how we knew the rude member of staff was actually the supervisor! Not only is it terrible service from a normal member of staff but that sort of service from someone who is a supervisor is diabolical. It defiantly put a dampener on the start to our morning however every other member of staff we had met at port lympne had been far from this. The vegetable sides came out after we’d almost finished our mains which was a shame as they were nice. The mineral waters had clearly been tampered with (looked old and arrived with screw tap open and put back on tight) - tasted distinctly like tap water. Olives and bread were good - as was my chicken (missing the jus). We spoke to our waitress about it all and she said ‘ok yes we could have filleted the fish for you sorry’. We asked for the bill which instead of being discounted due to all the problems had a 12.5% service charge added - only two of us dining, we didn’t order starters or desserts and had one small glass of wine each - came to just under £100. It was an extremely expensive meal and my mum didn’t want me to complain as she just wanted to leave - we were left very disappointed. And lovely sweet and sour. I really don't know what the negative reviews about I don't know if it maybe new owners I don't know, but it was three hard working cooks in that kitchen last night and the guy bagging it up. it's obviously a family restaurant because they're young boy was there on the counter learning the family business as it is with people who've got restaurants , chatting to me showing me his Lego model of a dc10. Its a great traditional pub and very clean. This is just good old pub food,so if your looking for fine dinning look else were. The wife and I had Beer battered Fish and Chips with a large coke and a pint of Fosters. We also had a starter of olives which were lovely.The service was very good, the wife needed more Tartar sauce which was bought instantly. All in all the pub and atmosphere made us very happy and relaxed. Ok I have to mention, I would of had to the 10 oz rump steak but quota for the day had been scoffed by other lucky customers. The filling was packed with flavour, thick and creamy. The tenderstem was cooked perfectly and plenty of gravy on the plate. Make sure you save space for desert. Actually start with desert and see what else you fancy after. We had three fabulous deserts. Lemon posset, Kentish Gypsy tart and the sticky toffee puding. They all felt wonderful in the mouth, tasted indulgence and were great examples of traditional deserts. Real ale drinkers won't be disappointed. 2 or 3 ales are available. They hold a cool cellar accreditation from Cask Marque. We had good pints of London Piride, Harveys Sussex Best, and Dark Star. There is parking for 20 cars. The pub is wheelchair accessible through the front door. The toilets are a bit cramped and not accessable. The sunny rear garden is sheltered from the wind and adjacent coast road. Great location, fairly easy to find, and had free parking around the back. Room was very basic and functional. Could do with more thorough cleaning but the worst part about our visit was that there was absolutely no hot water for a shower. Only found that out the next morning before the staff were around. 😟 Amazing restaurant as part of the hotel with one of the best curries I have had in a while so that would be worth visiting again. 👍 Maybe would find better place next time considering the water though. We thought tea rooms would be perfect for us to get a tea, lunch and cake. We were barely greeted by the two ladies working, both too busy cleaning to say hello. The younger one then proceeded to say they are still serving but they shut at 15:30 (at this point it was 14:30). We sat at a table, the older lady sweeping around us, my mum picked up a menu and was sharply told the kitchen is shut for hot food. That was it, no explanation or offer to what else we could have. We settled with 3 bottles of soft drinks, packet of crisps and a packeted cake- which were fine but not what was anticipated from a tea room (£11.75 total which is reasonable and then £2.50 parking as well). Then another two tables came in and were seemly greeted in a nicer manner than us, which just made us all feel very uncomfortable and we left by 14:58 and decided to watch the train leave, to then see one of the staff members getting on so I presume that’s what the rush for cleaning up was for. My first time using them and ordered with an open mind as it is out of a van pizza. Turned up just as someone had collected their order. The guy running was very nice, chatted away and answered my questions about his setup, checked my order and got it under way. We had opted for a Marinara but with added cheese and a Hot Pepperoni without the honey but added fennel sausage. The van runs two gas ovens and my order was made fresh. Got them home and steamed in. Cooked just right - would say like Neapolitan Style. All the toppings were full of flavour and backed up by a rich tomato sauce. You could tell the dough had been properly fermented. I hoovered mine but my other half had some left overs for breakfast and was still praising the tomato sauce. I had to stop myself heading off for another one. Easily restaurant standard and a bit beyond. Cost was £23 for the two but how much are you paying for high street chain delivered and not this quality. Also you can tell the dough was good and you got no bloat as you do from a lot of chain pizza places. Definitely our pay day pizza place.
