Today we were greeted by Sydney who was a true gentleman. He spoke with us for a minute or two when we arrived and made us feel super comfortable and very welcome. The food and drinks were brought to our table very promptly and Sydney managed to stay attentive to our needs as well as giving us the space to enjoy our meal. I couldn't speak more highly about the quality of the food and the kindness of all the staff even when it looked like it was getting quite busy around us, Sydney and his colleagues remained calm and confident at all times. I stayed in the single room with a balcony and found it to be very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was small but still fine and the bed was comfy. Breakfast was great, however the tables filled up fast and it got really busy for a small area. Being an older building you could hear people in other rooms and also in the room above you. I had no issues late and night. Overall it was a great base to explore the area for a few days.

This was a special holiday celebrating my retirement earlier this year and a return to a wonderful part of Switzerland we last visited more than 30 years ago. We took a south facing room with balcony looking across to the Eiger and the Mannlichen which was just perfect, as was the rest of our room. All the staff looked after us exceptionally well – nothing was too much for them and we had some lovely conversations and enjoyed their wine and beer recommendations and a superb cheese fondue. The Chambermaids kept our room neat and tidy, even carefully folding and presenting our nightwear for when we returned! The garden is also a great asset which we enjoyed on several afternoons, sitting under a parasol enjoying a coffee and just relaxing. The rooms were small and sparse and the room we got seemed to be the smallest of the hotel. A nice balcony though with an incredible view. The room did not have an outlet in the bathroom and did not come with a hair dyer. I asked at the front for a hair dryer and they said it cost 30 USD to borrow the hair dryer. A hair dryer costs less than that in the USA. The breakfasts were very nice. The restaurant was amazing but pricey so we did not eat there often. The smoked salmon was great!

Also das Personal darf und soll ja essen aber ob das die richtige Vorgehensweise ist bezweifle ich. Kurz nach dem Abendessen durften wir dann höflich das Restaurant nach draußen verlassen, damit für die nächsten gedeckt werden konnte was uns völlig irritiert hat, denn es war nicht so abgesprochen. Wir durften also eine Stunde in der Kälte auf den Bus ins Tal warten, als Entschädigung servierte man uns Schnaps und Glühwein draußen was man bezahlen musste. Die Heizstrahler wurden zwar angemacht aber haben absolut nichts gebracht weil sie zu tief eingestellt waren und im Restaurant selber war es auch sehr kalt weil alle Türen ständig aufstanden. Das Konzept sollte dringend überarbeitet werden, denn Potenzial hätte das Restaurant eigentlich. Das Essen war okay aber nichts besonderes. Schade, einmal und nie wieder.

The hotel is well designed and it definitely impressed us, but for us, the true hospitality is defined by how we are treated, not by the luxurious stuff.
