We were welcomed by Antonio, the front of house who came across as a very pleasant, professional and helpful chap who demonstrated his knowledge of the courses throughout the meal. Like the other staff he was attentive without being overbearing and was easy to engage in general conversation. The food was absolutely divine, I understand that the owner Steve has now taken a back seat and handed over to new Executive Chef Alex Payne and after enjoying this meal I feel sure that Steve can feel confident that Sorrel is in safe hands. The courses were presented by a combination of the chefs and waiting staff who clearly take pride in imparting their knowledge of each dish upon the customers. Each course was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us, presentation of all the dishes was a work of art well deserving of pictures in an art gallery. A particular highlight was the scallop course where the sauce perfectly complimented the scallop together with the tiny mushrooms and various form of caviar creating an explosion of flavour and different textures in your mouth, simply heaven in the mouth! The first course was a lobster tart, again absolutely delicious followed by “Jammy Dodgers” but made from something very different and tasting nothing like you’d expect so playing games with your mind. The bread course was another highlight, with wonderful flavours and so soft bread melting in your mouth. The turbot was cooked perfectly with a very smooth rich sauce and cauliflower mouse to accompany it. The desserts were a great way to finish the meal, the “Knights of Windsor” strawberry dessert was accompanied by very light lemon sorbet which freshened the palate. The following chocolate dessert was presented picture perfect and incredibly smooth in the mouth. The last course ended with “Deja View” a fitting end to a wonderful meal. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience that we look forward to revisiting again, highly recommended.

Pretty pub and location and generally good service. My partner enjoyed his trio of roasts. I however was disappointed by the vegan wellington. The potatoes and veg were cold, potatoes lacked flavour and weren't crispy, and the portion size was really meager for £20. The meat roasts looked more generous. I guess that's vegan tax! Also maybe personal preference but the flavour combination wasn't for me - sweet beetroot wellington on sweet red cabbage just didn't seem to be well thought through. Won't be rushing back.

We came here for a birthday meal and it did not disappoint. Syed and his family and staff treated us like royalty and attended to our every need. The poppadoms and chutney tray started us off well. Well, what a surprise, this is a nice place it's sort of elegant, nice furniture, smartly dressed waiters who were really nice, good at their jobs and professional. Out of the thousands nay possibly more, I think I might be exaggerating again, anyway out of a lot of fantastic Asian restaurant's we've had the pleasure to dine at this has to be one of the best dishes we've had. This is worth a visit for this dish alone, to be honest this is why I've bothered to write all this nonsense. I'm hoping that it wasn't a fluke, a one off where the chef accidently put the wrong something in and created a masterpiece that we ate never to be tasted again, it could happen! Anyway, If you're looking for somewhere to eat in this sleepy little town one evening and you happen to fancy a curry then this place is worth a visit. If you go try the Peshwari Chicken and say Richard recommended it. I have no idea if we'll ever be back in Dorking, but if we are I'd love to go back and ask how many people asked for this amazing dish. This is the second time I have eaten here and it really is superb. Beautifully decorated, with luxury touches. The menu is detailed so needs to be studied. It is just a shame it is let down by such awful food. The cod tacos were stale. The tacos were so hard and chewy, they were awful and the cod was a poor quality fish finger at best. My husband had the schnitzel, which was a cordon bleu chicken, not a schnitzel. It was supposed to come with a smoked tomato salad, which was not the case, it was just normal cold tomatoes. Lady behind the bar friendly, partner had a passionfruit cocktail which was from a tap, didn't look like the photo which was topped with a slice of passionfruit but she said tasted nice anyway. We had a spicy veggie burger and a regular with bacon and then we waited and waited a ridiculous time, almost comical forever when it did arrive the chips nice and crunchy and the burgers looked nice, taste wise not bad but not badly priced either. Men's toilets are out the back in a separate room and aren't great but have seen worse. Good points friendly staff, food reasonably price, nice little old building and a cute, friendly spotted dog who did manage to fart a couple of times near us but ours are just as bad so didn't bother us and he was a good boy overall. Poor points being very slow on food and limited ale selection. I did however win £65 on the video slot machine whilst waiting for food so that was a nice little bonus I suppose.

We were gifted vouchers and it was the first time my wife and I have had Sunday lunch out together since our baby was born (9 months ago). The service and food were perfect. What can I say it was absolutely amazing, really fresh ingredients you could taste each individual ingredient. Was greeted very warmly by a smiling lady named Susan. The smells filling the shop were amazing and was reflected in the taste whilst eating. Portion size is very large check my last pic, that was left after stuffing myself. I had sweet and sour chicken balls, crispy shredded beef and chicken chow mein, half a container of beef left to! Chicken balls were massive as you can see from pictures and I can assure you filled with chicken see picture attached, about 10 balls in total, sauce was lovely too. Recommend highly, I think you can see it was enjoyable by my empty plate. I will definitely be back. The swimming pool is amazing, with life guards and pool side service. The rooms are clean and have comfortable beds. I stayed 3 nights at the Premier Inn next door and used the Mill House Beefeater’s meal deal — 2-course dinner, selected drinks, and unlimited Premier Inn breakfast for £27.99 a day. Food was absolutely delicious 😋 and the presentation just adds that little bot extra. Price was reasonable, we had a starter main dish and side dish with a glass of wine, which came up to approx £40. Service was great, very friendly and attentive, no waiting. I honestly don’t know where to start with how bad this place was. I booked my room months in advance, rang a week before to double-check, and again the day before the stay. My booking took ages to find, got confused between different bookings and when showed to a room (which wasn’t ready, fine as it was before 3pm), but then told me there was only one key for the room. The only thing you really want from a hotel in the middle of nowhere is a reliable, secure room you can come back to. That’s the bare minimum and they failed on it in the worst possible way. To make matters worse, when I called the next morning the customer service was appalling. Rather than trying to understand what had happened, the man on the phone was dismissive and condescending after such a dreadful experience says everything. I’ve travelled plenty and stayed in all sorts of places, and this was by far the worst experience I’ve had this year so had to make a comment. Wow! What a fabulous meal and time we had. Starting with champagne we enjoyed the most delicious starters of perfectly cooked fresh squid, pork and vegetable rolls and marinated chicken wings before moving on to Chinese duck pancakes. The pancakes were lightly steamed and the duck perfectly prepared and served. Our main courses were fragrantly spiced tender lamb with vegetables; steamed pea shoots, duck breast meat with crispy skin ( which had the most gorgeous flavours); green beans with minced pork and small cubes of sweet and sour pork with shaped vegetables. Everything served to us by the lovely Jessica was utterly delicious. Who looked after us all so beautifully. It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten such a deliciously fresh and authentic Cantonese meal where the spices and flavours had been especially selected with care. Huge thanks to my cousin and his lovely wife for inviting us to join them for this outstanding Chinese feast. Well worth the 4 hour drive to Dorking from north Devon. We will be looking for any small excuse to revisit soon!

Being heavily pregnancy, it was just fortunate I had wanted to rest and change that we returned to the pub, allowing us to discover this situation. I only had a brief window of time before returning to the wedding to give my bridesmaid speech, but instead I was left in TEARS in front of staff and pub guests, scrambling to gather our things in the rain and sort three new rooms for the night. I travelled miles to goto New Fountain Garden to find it was shut for the summer with no updates online. As a backup I saw this place on Google saying it was open from 12 midday to 11.30pm. Unfortunately when I arrived here, it was also closed and the signage said it was open from 5.30pm! This is so pathetic, in my area, the latest information would be updated for takeaways for a 2 week break. Clearly the information has been wrong online for sometime. There is no focus on customer service, for the Chinese eateries in Dorking to give up or not care about opening times is shameful. I am fuming, shame on your ancestors, this is an insult! If I had money, I would open a HK diner in Dorking and put you all out of business. Retire and let a new generation take over
