Then we got told all the items unavailable Turkey, some fish items and no onion rings. Serving staff all seemed to have attitude and didn’t really want to be there. We eventually got our table at about 2.20pm. Our drinks order got taken 1st which one drink was put through incorrect. We ordered starters which took 20mins to arrive so not too bad. But when the main meals arrived the mixed grill was so over cooked, small portions and dry. Spoke to a server which really didn’t seem that bothered. But did offer to get it cooked again which it did come back better but most of the table had finished there meal by then. At no point did a server come over and ask if everything was ok. This was for a birthday meal which was spoilt by the whole experience. wish we never went and won’t be recommending.

The food although tasty wasn't up to scratch. I'll explain, we ordered two meals from the main menu, two Sunday beef roasts and a kids gammon roast. I ordered mine with unlimited potatoes and yorkshires. What I got was a side bowl with half a dozen potatoes in it, these I put on my plate, leaving the empty bowl for all to see. Despite staff visiting the table a few times (not as a courtesy check i might add) at no point was i asked if I would like any more of the (i say again) unlimited potatoes and yorkshire pudds. The kids one turned up with the wrong meat on it, which we returned and was replaced with Gamon as ordered. One of our party wanted onion rings, to be told they don't have any. I think gravy was in short supply as there was at best a dribble on any of our plates. I over heard the waitress say to a couple that came in, at around 3pm, that there wasn't any turkey left. The deserts for £7.50 are so small, I thought they were from the kids menu. Overall not their finest day.

Located within the Premier Inn, which has a large car park to the rear. There are ample toilet facilities, and the venue is accessible. It can get very busy, so we usually book to save disappointment. Most recently I've been with friends whilst visiting. The current staff have been super helpful and knowledgeable. The menu is varied with something for everyone, and we still had to share dessert due to lack of personal capacity!! Chicken and Pulled Ham Pie with skin on chips and chocolate brownie was the order of the day. There's a good range of beverages, and as we were walking, I sampled the gin range, definitely a good choice.

The wife had a Lamb Keema Stack and there was loads of food - she couldn't finish it! The only pain was that my son likes apple juice and they ran out, and my daughter got a candy mania ice cream with her kids meal but it wasn't what she thought it would be! (I think she was expecting sweets and ice cream!) Otherwise a pretty good visit and wouldn't hesitate visiting again.

Food was fair, steak wasn't medium rare like the Wife's ( whose looked excellent ) mine was more medium well done which spoiled it a little. Chicken was lovely however. No parking, but it's a 5min walk from free car park - Pike Lane. You definitely need to book a table as the staff care about great service and won't admit walk-ins if they're busy. Laura was nothing short of helpful and did her absolute best to resolve the issues. Upon arrival there was a large group of ladies (a few of whom are friends) celebrating, nothing wrong with that of course, however as a hotel with three large rooms available for catering, being put in a room next to the bar and the large party secured that we would not be hearing each other all night. Indeed, even trying to hear Laura proved almost impossible. Eventually our starters arrived and frankly were average to say the least. It was our main meals that were the final straw however. I had ordered a mushroom burger and skin on chips from the massively reduced and uninspiring menu, whilst my partner ordered a mixed grill - rare. For the sum of £10.50, I was presented with, what at best could be described as a tepid, unpalatable, sub standard, school dinner!! My partner received his mixed grill with an exploded sausage, a steak that was so tough it was impenetrable with a fork and steak knife(!!) and a gammon steak that could have quite easily been confused with the the soul of a tramps flip flop!! As I said, Laura was fantastic and when I explained, through a series of lip reading and shouting over the noise, that I would not be paying for the "meal" we had received, she agreed, understood and was deeply apologetic (in short professional and the pole opposite of everything her manageress/owner sadly was!!) I asked for the owner to contact me to discuss, as we were deeply saddened and disappointed by our experience. After being left for 48hrs as he was to busy to talk to me, his wife calling and screaming at me down the phone at me for daring to complain has absolutely secured that we will NEVER VISIT THE THOMAS PAINE HOTEL AGAIN!! So sad as I have often recommended the hotel and indeed, celebrated my daughters baptism at this otherwise beautiful hotel.

I usually stick to the same Chinese place I’ve been going to for years, but I didn’t want to travel, so I decided to give this one a try — and I’m so glad I did. The gentleman who served me was really friendly and welcoming, and even threw in some free prawn crackers, which was such a lovely touch. Cant recomend them more. Just a little treat for the 2 of us. We had the mixed h'ordvers which were about double the size of what we have had before locally and delicious, especially the seaweed and th spicy sweet and sour sauce with it. Chicken balls were perfectly cooked and not soggy batter or over cooked and dry. The chicken was perfect and a little moist so we were very happy. The sweet and sour sauce with them was a little sweet for our taste but still very good so no complaint as its personal to us. When we order next time we will see if they can replace it with the spicy version that was with the o'rderves. We had our favorite house special chow mein which was one of the best I've ever had. I tried a new dish for me which was duck with bamboo shoots and Chinese mushrooms which I really enjoyed, we also had my husbands favourite s crispy beef and wow lovely sauce and very crispy!! . The prawn crackers were fresh and lovely. All in all we are really happy this is local to us. I have asked my husband to book it for my birthday as that's the same day the restaurant reopens!!. I hope he remembers!!! The restaurant looks really lovely. I was told they are excellent and was upset when I heard about the fire as we wanted a good Chinese when we moved here. So pleased its reopened. They also take credit card payment which is a lot easier for us. I took photos of the menu as the other one on here was hard to see and some lines missing from the bottomn . Walk in the door and to the right you've got the proper pub atmosphere where you'd sit as a local for a pint or two. The service was unprofessional and rude. One of the waitresses consistently made inappropriate and unnecessary comments.
