This was probably the best meal we’ve had at the restaurant, although it’s always been excellent. My fish soup starter was full of flavour, likewise the seabass main, which came with a lovely lemongrass mash and mango salsa. Two fillets of sea bass was very generous for the price, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her fish pie. It’s a long-established spot in Aldeburgh, popular with both locals and visitors, so we were really looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The squid was chewy and served with a sweet chilli dip that tasted quite artificial. My husband’s calves’ liver and bacon came with soggy vegetables and the liver was tough. The herring roe starter was also underwhelming, served on a rubbery piece of white bread. My son’s £30 steak was fine, but the peppercorn sauce was bitter and under-seasoned. The total came to £113 for three people, which felt expensive for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, the restaurant didn’t live up to its reputation — the food felt dated and lacking in care. We started with the pea, artichoke and basil arancini then moved onto the Seared Tuna and the pesto crusted halibut. Both dishes were sublime. The fish was cooked to perfection and the accompaniments were perfect for each dish. The Asian dressing for the red onion and carrot salad was sublime, subtle and elegant! We finished with the pear tart tartin and butterscotch ice cream. Yum! Good choice of wine and beer by the glass. The Regatta Pale Ale was great. What should have been a pleasant meal was spoilt by terrible attitude. Upon checking the bill, we were charged twice for one of the meals. There were only two of us and we had two mains and shared a dessert, so not particularly taxing for any waiter/waitress to add up. The waiter said sorry we will put that right for you. We put on our coats to leave and I casually asked the head waitress who would normally do the tilling up? She launched with a curt tone into "why would we want to do that, it's a simple mistake that we could easily make and it's up to you to check your bill" as if she was waiting to defend her corner with the worst attitude I have experienced from a so called good restaurant. No apologies at all, just couldn't wait to get us out. I said ok thanks and we walked away vowing never to return. Shame, as the food was ok. My worry would be if there were a lot of you and you were splitting a bill, who would check everybody to see what they had had. Portions are tiny! Expect a small portion when you pay for the large. Haddock was so thin and bone dry. Well overcooked. Chips were tasty, but you really do get a pathetic portion which barely lines the bottom the bag. You pay good money for something, you expect quality! This was far from it. Trouble is, so many think it's great and the queues are often very big, so why would they care if they put out mediocre food and charge a lot for it if people keep coming back? If you have reviewed this place as the best in the UK, you really need to go outside of Aldeburgh because this is far from it! Photo is the haddock which is supposed to be large! Would have liked a few more, but on the plus side I for once didn't over-eat when getting fish and chips so perhaps I needed the external moderation! Friendly and skilled staff, they suggested we just buy a bottle of ketchup instead of the 6 sachets I had ordered, as that would work out cheaper. Thoughtful, that. Recommended!

Today ordered two cod and chips with mushy peas and a curry sauce on one. Service was ok, nothing friendly, it was functional. Chips were a very small portion compared with previously. Some of the best Indian I’ve had in a long time however service could be a little better. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman with a smile so thank you, he also took our whole order ensuring we had enough time to browse the menu. However, when drinks arrived we found the birra Moretti tasted a bit off. Quite a few of us have anxiety and so we tried discreetly catching the eye of staff but was unable to, one member just drank it whilst my partner barely had a few mouthfuls. The water jugs also had quite a few water marks on there so I think the dishwasher salt and detergent needs monitoring. Both myself and my partner are in hospitality with myself being FOH and my partner being a chef. We both adored the food so massive thank you to the chefs and the young lady who bought the large order out. However, the vibe changed as the mains came out the lady seemed impatient and borderline rude. I understand it may have been a long day so I completely empathise. No check up was done on our table otherwise we would’ve mentioned about the beer. And no offer of anything else such as drinks or even desserts was made, our plates were cleared and then we waited a while before we flagged the gentleman down for the bill. The architecture and design was beautiful but some tweaks and works need doing with service.

Service was ok, not particularly welcoming or friendly. Had high hopes for this place and being in Aldeburgh you expect to pay over the odds. You definitely do pay over the odds and what you get for your money is mediocre at best. I have honestly had better and more flavourful Curry's out of the freezer section at Sainsbury's. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants and this was way down there! I always try to be fair with my reviews and I would never slate a business if it wasn't necessary! Chicken was dry, my "chef's special" curry was bland, naan undercooked, tiny portion of rice which tasted the same as the microwaveable packet rice you'd find in the supermarket. Biryani was £16 and just a small bowl of rice with some raita dip, No veg curry on the side. We did explain to the waitress and we were very fair in our approach without being rude. She offered a reduction on the bill which was nice. This particular waitress was very apologetic and understanding. We sat for a while waiting for the bill and saw the manager (tall blonde lady) make a "hurry up" gesture with her hand to the waitress as we were the only ones left by that time. She clearly wanted to wrap up for the night which was extremely rude especially after a less than average experience. Will have to find another Indian restaurant that doesn't overcharge or serve bland food.

James and the team at The Suffolk were extremely welcoming. We met with staff, including the chef, beforehand to confirm a menu and discuss details. We both had porchetta which is a particular favourite of ours and the whole reason for booking. The food was amazing and actually, one of the best fish & chips I ate in a very long time. The waiter said that the fish cooked fresh and not been frozen and you can tell. Nowhere to sit in the lounge for breakfast meant we sat outside with the swarms of wasps. We're not great Britten fans but I read recently that there were quite a few Duncan Grant artworks here, and as big Bloomsbury fans we had to visit. After the upstairs tour we were allowed to just wander through the downstairs rooms, chatting to the very helpful attendant. The whole house has the feel of someone living there, it's a living museum and homeland great for it. It was a chilly day so we didn't spend long in the garden but will definitely come back on a nicer day with a picnic. The house is full of art, as Peter Pears was an avid collector, and we loved it.

We have stayed at the hotel before and always look forward to returning. The hotel and staff are delightful. However, the room was quite small, and with two dogs, it felt even more cramped. The pillows were uncomfortable, and the bed felt too hard for our liking. The bathroom felt outdated, with a shower that barely worked—definitely not the standard we'd expect. At £249 a night, we thought there would at least be plugs by the bed and a smart TV. To describe the whole place, it felt like the lounge of an old people's home. On a positive note, breakfast was delicious and cooked to order, with the best bacon we've ever had. Unfortunately, the bar staff on Saturday evening were quite stressed and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them when ordering a drink. However, the reception and restaurant staff were polite and helpful. It's a shame the room experience didn’t match the overall service. Aldeburgh was lovely, and we’ll likely return, just not to the Wentworth.

I had to keep asking for condiments and when I said the salt was empty she checked I was telling the truth. The food was tasteless and I could not finish it. I would not go here again and I would have been happier with just plain toast. It appears the staff were not properly trained and needed some further training. If you are looking for a fairly traditional hotel with incredible proximity to the golf course, with wonderful food then this is perfect. The customer service was mixed, with a marked difference between reception (who were all superb in communication before and during our stay) and waiting staff whose service was more variable. Food was wonderful, and excellent value for money which we couldn't fault at all, and would happily eat here again. Decor looking quite tatty in places, leather benches in restaurant looking in need of a clean/repair, en suite walls in need of a repaint etc. Significant sound proofing issue in 'The lodge' rooms as all we could hear during the evening and from very early in the morning, was the neighbouring room's TV despite the room being of a large size with the bed well away from the adjacent wall. The head chef is called Maggie and she walked around talking to guests after we eaten. A fascinating lady and a brilliant chef. Quite honestly, you do not expect to be served food of this quality in a off-the-beaten-track restaurant in Suffolk. We found it from a search on Google Maps and booked a table as we liked the idea of an organic yurt dining experience.
