We booked the afternoon before Chris and Lauren took over the pub. They happily honoured our booking although they’d only been in a few weeks before our event. They were amazing. They couldn’t do enough for us. Regular communication, listened to our food requests and did a very reasonably priced buffet. Supplied requested drinks, even the sherry( Mums favourite). The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and you can really feel the positive energy as soon as you walk in. The food is absolutely incredible every dish we tried was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Sunday roasts AMAZING! We did book ahead - best to do that to avoid disappointment. One of my friends had Penne Filetto and the other Pollo Biancaneve with sauted potatoes, green beans and carrots, from the standard Menu. I had Pan Fried Dover Sole, Chips with Salad which was from the board. How they managed to make my Dover Sole taste as wonderful as it did, I do not know. I think it had some sort of covering before it was pan-fried. I asked for the recipe but the waitress laughed and unfortunately I did not get the recipe. My chips were great. And the salad was so fresh and tasted gorgeous - you can measure a good salad by the taste of the tomatoes and they were excellent and sweet. Both of my friends eat here regularly and finished off their dins with gusto. One of my friends had a glass of Rose and we had soft drinks. Waitress (who I believe is the daughter of the owner) was wonderful and the restaurant was chock-a-block. The only reason I've downmarked from 5 star, is the ambience is slightly wrong - can't put my finger on it - I think it needs a little make-over, however, it certainly didn't detract from our enjoyment and excellent evening.

The owner Ben cooks up great burgers for a great price. I highly recommend anyone to try the peanut butter and jelly burger (unless you got nut allergy ) it sounds weird but taste really good. They have plenty of indoor seating and if the weather is nice you can also have outdoor seating. The burger and wings come in nice large cardboard boxes so if you can’t finish their massive burgers you can just take them away. Saw the usual places then found Hot Spot Burgers. Read the reviews and thought I would give it a try. I went there to collect and was met by a small cabin, that looked a bit neglected but I AM so glad I didn't turn around. Went in and was greeted with a warm welcome, chose what I wanted and the service was great, even checked I like hot sauce because the loaded fries I chose have very hot sauce. The chap making the burgers came out and was super friendly and again checked on the hot sauce. Service was quick and I got it take away. Couldn't wait to tuck in and WOW, what a burger. I had blue cheese and bacon and it was delicious as were the loaded fries, but I did sweat after the hot sauce, I was warned! Amazing food, definitely give Hot Spot a try if in the area, they deliver too. Thanks guys for the amazing food.

Close to the pier, lanes etc. Now, the bar area gets super busy and loud on weekends and sunny days. They put a couple of speakers outside whit a lady singing. If you get a sea view room better keep your windows closed. The hotel has charm but it’s very dated and the shower took 10 minutes to warm up. Crazy to think that to get to the left part of the hotel you need to cross the bar and good luck if you are checking in at 7pm on a Saturday. This hotel has so much potential and I hope that they do a huge refurbishment. It was probably once a 4 star hotel back in the 60s. Hardly a 2 star now.

Spotlessly clean but showing some hints of tiredness and in need of some TLC. The bath /shower was practically inaccessible to me. A very sturdy shower screen could not be opened outwards from the bath, and also inward due to the hand rails on the bath so it was basically fixed. Not ideal when all the taps are behind it and one would have to get into the bath to turn them on.. Not great if you are a big person or disabled. The bathroom door would not close despite there being a sign saying to keep it closed whilst showering. My grandson's room had hot water coming from both taps, cleaning your teeth with hot water isn't great!!. The internet was extremely poor. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Full of hope I arrived at the sea front looking for my nautical themed home from home. I should have heeded the warning that was the fully decorated Christmas Tree in the entrance hall (it was October). Once booked in I realised my nautical adventure was not going to be much of a Cunard Cruise experience as it had more of the Mary Rose about it. Having risked life and limb in the antique lift, I entered my room with excitement. My gleeful dreams were shattered as I tried to turn on the lights to find one had no bulb in and two others just didn't work. It was very warm in the room so I turned on the last remaining light switch marked "Fan". Initially I thought it was one of those optical illusions that spins so fast you can't see it but after a few minutes it sprang into action rotating at the break neck speed of 3 revolutions per hour. I decided to calm myself by making a coffee, but after failing to find the kettle I decided to boil the water using a combination of the ambient room temperature and the hairdryer that had been chained and nailed to the inside of a desk drawer. As darkness fell I battled for a moment of sleep, disturbed minute by minute by the noise of revellers outside, interspersed with the sounds of an elderly man in the room next door. He seemed to be managing a combination of enlarged prostate issues and COPD if the number of coughing fits and toilet flushes was any sort of diagnostic criteria. The walls are thinner than a stick man's dangly bits. I awoke to consider my options. I felt a shower would revive me so I opened the bathroom door using the barely attached door handle that strongly resembled a badly designed sex toy from the 1920's and hung my towel on the back of the door. The shower was hot although the bath appeared to have been painted with home brand gloss paint from the Poundland budget range. I panicked half way through my ablutions when I thought I had developed a spontaneous fungal nail infection. Thankfully it was just flakes of white paint from the badly painted bath. I stepped out of the bath and thought my towel had been stolen whilst I showered, but lo and behold the towel and the hook it was on were now on the bathroom floor along with the two tiny screws that initially held the unloaded hook in place. Bleary eyed I made my way to breakfast. I decided to avoid the risk of the lift this time and fancied my chances with the rickety stairs as I made a grand entrance by re-enacting that famous scene on the Titanic staircase. Having enjoyed my very own Leonardo De Caprio moment I managed to catch up with half an hour's sleep whilst I waited for the staff to bring the coffee I had ordered. I had a lovely seat in the bay window overlooking the far more luxurious accommodation in the bus stop on the promenade. In the bay window, stapled to the inside of the wall was a lovely sheet of blue satin material. Did it hide a priceless Banksy I mused, or maybe the tale of the Ancient Mariner was depicted in oils by an Old Master? Gingerly I lifted the sheet to find it covered the brick where the damp had fetched the plaster from the walls. Overall the staff were pleasent and helpful so I can't fault them. The hotel is full of character and it could be the place for you if you like being charged a lot of money for a break in a badly maintained Fawlty Towers meets Pirates of the Caribbean style theme park. If you are looking for a metaphor it is the Indiana Jones mine cart attempt at replicating a first class trip on the Japanese Bullet Train.

We went for a selection of small sharing plates and found them to be very good quality and very well cooked. They have a good deal on bottles of Corona and also Budweiser Budvar on tap, which is a very good pint. And their cheesecake is also fantastic.
