Don't come here if you're hungry and expect for the price to be reflected in the quality of the food.
All that hype and I should have gone to Burger King... And so should you!
Heard from a few people about 5 guys and that , sure it's expensive but the burgers are amazing and you get LOADS of chips.
2 out of 3 in that statement are correct... It's very expensive and you get loads of chips... But they aren't even that good either.
Let's start at the beginning....
Walked in to find the most bland service counter I've ever seen. No images of the food in some glamorous infomercial styled display.... Nothing. Literally a small board that takes up a 1/4 of the area that literally lists in a very basic terms a list of burgers you can order..... Have they not heard of marketing?
That being said, I understand that you choose basically one of a couple of burgers and add fillings to it too personalise it, but you could walk in here without knowing what they sell and you wouldn't know. The walls are covered in news articles from different magazines about them so best to bring your reading glasses.
It's got a sort of 1960's American diner feel which I kind of like.
For your information, the Cheese burgers have 2 burgers in them and if you only wanted 1 burger, you have to order a "Little Cheese burger". What?... You thought that would be called just a cheeseburger right?... So did I.
That being said given the size of the burgers, they should call them Little cheeseburgers or double little cheeseburgers because you'll still be hungry afterwards.
That made me realise why they give you a lot of chips, to fill you up because obviously they make more profit from giving you chips than giving you an adult sided burger.
The food didn't take that long before it's ready and they shout out your order number so you can collect it.
Burger ok but small, chips over cooked, very expensive for what you get and it's not like I can say the quality of the food or the experience is worth wasting your time or your money for. Look at the photo I've uploaded, looks good until you see the size of the sauce pots are nearly as big as the burgers! 🙄
Maybe this branch in Crawley is a poor demonstration of what 5 guys can offer.... But judging by the reviews I've read, seems like it's a fairly poor underwhelming experience wherever you go.
Arrived hungry and leaving hungry and £33 lighter. Won't be coming again.
UPDATE:
Five Guys Responded. Usual "thanks for your feedback, sorry you didn't enjoy your visit and we'll use your feedback to improve".... But will they? They say it to everyone but nothing changes.
Will they increase the size of their burgers to be like what you'd expect to get from say competition like BurgerKing?
Will they bring the marketing into the 21st century with glamorous seductive images of the food, maybe a screen showing close ups in slow motion of the burgers sizzling on the grill and being flipped, seeing onions, lettuce and tomato placed ontop with sauce drizzle on before the bun is placed and the cheese oozes from the side, maybe a shot of the chips cascading down into the cup..... Think how M&S do their commercials, you watch it and think..."OMG! I need that now!" and your excited about what you're about to order and feel even more hungry than you were when you walked in. M&S are masters in this field.
Customers buy with their eyes and if something is a little more expensive than the local competition but looks amazing, tastes amazing and they have a great experience.... They'll keep coming. Even more important now in a cost of living crisis we all currently face... Going out now it's a treat.
You can argue that the greatest advertisement is word of mouth, which is true. But is my opinion of my experience going to be positive telling friends and family "you must try Five Guys!" Going forward?... No, and it seems I'm not the only one in the reviews that feels this way.
An old saying "actions speak louder than words" so the question is, are you actually going to make actual changes?.. I'm not convinced.🤔
