My family and I decided we wanted to go to a nice restaurant before we left the area (the website alleges that it is a “fine dining casual” restaurant) and so we settled on Rocktown Kitchen. Now… I use parentheses in this context because the steak we were presented with was hardly a tomahawk steak. The steak was supposed to be medium, it clearly was not, and it wasn’t even particularly hot when it arrived at our table. Now.. hindsight is 20/20, we probably should have sent the “tomahawk” steak back, but we had been waiting a while at this point and were quite hungry so we just ate our “tomahawk” steak. This steak was $135, does that steak look like it’s worth that much to you? We were sorely disappointed with both the cut of meat the served us, and the presentation (which we were told was going to be special, when it reality it was just the chef coming out and setting it down and leaving promptly), and we were told that it was a 32oz “tomahawk” steak. Clearly the restaurant served us a different cut of beef and gave us a bone for presentation, and so we complained to our server, who told us he would take it off the bill and give us a complimentary dessert. However when the check came the steak was still on the bill, and all we got for being swindled was a brownie with ice cream. He was very concerned about this interaction that we had at the restaurant. He invited our party to return which we did. This was a totally different experience and was excellent. We were seated quickly and got drinks and an appetizer soon after. The wings were amazing, came out super hot and tasted amazing (we had Buffalo). It seemed they only had two wait staff working and one had to get a booth cleaned so we could sit down. The chicken tenders were good and the waffle okay but it was nothing special. We got some of the golden sauce and that really worked well with the chicken tenders. My girlfriend got orange juice. It was good but again nothing special. In the front as you walk in they have pinball and arcade machines that you can play. I usually door dash here a lot. And I feel like I got disrespected as a dasher last night. I went in last night and some young guys were just completely disrespectful. This was my first time back in over a year due to my fiance and I having under and overcooked food multiple times when we used to go regularly upon the restaurant first opening. We assumed they were just working out the kinks and very much understood that as we both have worked in either food or retail customer service our entire working lives. Flash forward to tonight I was craving the Caribbean shrimp that I used to love so we placed a take out order for both that dish and the appetizer bacon cheese fries. I’m pleased to say the shrimp dish was as delicious as I remembered but it will be hard to forget the bacon cheese fries with raw bacon on them. I also believe the fries may have been changed at some point because not only was the bacon raw but the majority of the now thicker fries were also raw. The photo I’ve added was after I put them in the oven myself once I returned home and honestly has just turned me off for good I’m afraid. I’m sorry because I’ve really always tried to support IWC even with the hiccups we experienced in the past but for the price it’s just not worth it unfortunately. PS my fiance is a huge sports guy and commented on how empty it was tonight despite being a huge play off night for multiple different teams. Not a great look for a sports bar but may hold some value to the status of the restaurant. Really hoping they can turn it around and remain successful!
