The furnishings and overall ambience are extremely authentic; when they couldn't get the original pieces, they found extremely close period pieces or reproductions. The bar in the tavern is reminiscent of the huge bar in Cody, WY, and is indeed genuine. The garage doors on the ceiling of the Cork and Keg and the downstairs hallway are from the building's original incarnation as a garage. The original artwork scattered through the building is superb and well-chosen. The overall vibe is extremely welcoming, with large open areas on every level and staff members who are honestly pleased to be of service. The prices for food and drink are quite reasonable, and the menu is eclectic with something for everyone. We unfortunately were only able to enjoy a glass of regional wine while we were there, but it was delicious and perfectly served. And the best part of all is Guy himself. He is friendly and engaging and a consummate host. He has all the stories of the Richter's history, as well as of the town itself. Our group entered, and were greeted by Marco (who was taking orders and manning the register). Marco was very patient with us and gave us our space to review the menu, and also answered our questions as they arose. Our orders covered the spectrum from catfish, chicken fried steak, house salad, and chopped sirloin. Each dish came with a choice of 3 sides. The food was prepared fresh, and ready within 20 minutes. The serving side are sizeable so choose you size of meal accordingly (pony, regular or large). Our orders were regular in size, with good helping of sides (veggies, etc.). Just know the food and sides have a "light" to non-existent seasoning. I expected this is done so that you can salt & pepper to your taste. Veggies are steamed, and I personally recommend requesting your gravy (white or brown) on the side. We enjoyed our visit and experience and hope you will too. July 2025 I was in the Boerne area, and decided I to see if the Hungry Horse restaurant open. Unfortunately they were not. This space is huge and ready to welcome everyone. Bring the kids (there’s an incredible playground just for them) or bring the dogs (they have their own large, fenced in dog park that comes with agility course obstacles so your dog has their own playground!) While we don’t live in Boerne, you could tell this place was a much loved community hang out. They have lots of local beer on tap and great cocktails. We really enjoyed our burgers and wings. Finds us a table inside (still the only person that will talk to us at this point) and sits us and says our server will be by shortly. 10 minutes go by and Cameron comes to check in on us. No, Cameron no one has stopped here. He then decides to take our table and serve us; inside mind you not on the patio. Once we receive our food and drinks (in a relatively normal amount of time thanks to Cameron and only Cameron) we watch the manager visit every single table except for ours. By this time, Cameron has apologized profusely and we joked that we felt like ghosts and the only person that could see us was Cameron. The food was decent enough but wildly overpriced for what it was. Shout out to Cameron for salvaging the evening but as far as the manager, hostess, and any other servers pretending not to see us for the entire 1.5 hours we were there, y’all suck.

I believe they are now out of their soft opening, so I hope this review doesn't seem harsh. My son and I had a pleasant experience, but I am taking two stars off this review for the following reasons. First, the food is expensive for what you get. In my opinion, very expensive. The bill for my 10 year old son and I was $37 before tip. He had the bottomless Icee which was $5 (!) and I had a frozen margarita. He had a Blacksmith Burger which he enjoyed and was worth the $9 price tag. I had the Chopped Beef Brisket Sammie which was $11 and was very disappointed with the portion of brisket on the "sammie". It was almost all bread. Picture attached. I would expect twice as much meat on an $11 sandwich, especially considering the chopped brisket is usually leftover from the prime parts of the cut. I was super jealous of my son's $9 burger. 😕 Second, I was confused my the ordering process. We ordered at the counter on the way in, and then our waitress came to our table a few minutes later to "confirm" our order before sending it to the kitchen. Maybe I missed something or am just confused, but this seemed like an extra unneeded obstacle to getting our expensive dinner. I'm not sure I'll eat here again. There were other menu items I was interested in, but Boerne has a ton of other options that I feel are more likely to give me my money's worth. On the positive side, the atmosphere was nice and the staff was friendly. It was not very busy on a Tuesday night and the food was made in reasonable time. I'm glad to have this location back in business and hope to find that improvements to the portions have been made in the future.
