This restaurant had good reviews and lots of options on the menu. We were seated adjacent to the river and with the windows open on a nice cool evening it really elevated the dining experience. We got the fried calamari to start which was delicious, the dipping sauce had a bit of spice to it, overall really good. Entrees were the marinated steak and my husband got the combo with the lobster. Steak was well cooked, tender, with a large portion. Green beans were a bit overcooked for our taste but the flavor was good. Definitely would recommend checking it out.

The server behind the old skool diner counter suggested that the meat sauce was the key and that I should try the shoestring fries with cheese and this sauce. I did and all of what I ate that day was EXCELLENT! The signature meat sauce (not a chili really) was thin but held together the finely ground beef that was suspended in the sauce. It all flowed over the DELICIOUS low-temp-seeped "Dirty Water Dog" which are unique because much like the traditional NYC version, the weiners sit in just-under-boiling water all day, not grilled/caramelized on a foil lined flattop! This traditional NYC method of heating evenly and thoroughly throughout the dog, is slowly disappearing (I understand this is a preferred method in OHIO though, but this is in NY). Unlike NYC these dogs are NOT super salty and are about 175% thicker and slightly shorter than the NYC counterpart. The dogs does not poke out of the bun :( The flavor of the weiner is perfect for my palate. Great mild garlic undertone, enough onion powder and much much lower on the salt. No black pepper or overly sharp seasoning in the recipe? It was more reminiscent of my favorite Germán style veal white sausage. REALLY GREAT! Now add that runny, Cincinnati/Greek style meat sauce (aka "Chili?") with its hints of cinnamon and nutmeg? Some finely minced white onion and muddy brown mustard...GREAT dog bite ever and completely unique to the UPSTATE community. This experience felt like this tradition street-food was somehow HOME-COOKED, but still a treat to experience out-of-my-home. If that makes any sense. No need to chase my NY Dog with Papaya to "Aid in Digestion" that is a requirement at my now 2nd favorite Gray's Papaya in the City because this version is OH SO gentle to my stomach and in fact made it feel SO VERY HAPPY! My 3 visits (solo, brought friends to grab & run, solo again this time) were great with my friends saying it was the best dog they have had in a while (3 people all said same and they are foodies too!). Def. try this place please! *NOTES: staff treated us like valued customers and as I expected is delightfully Family-owned...It shows! This has no association with DALLAS TX. and there are (3) locations in MID-STATE NYC. I tried the burger which was made using DINER-STYLE using a pre-formed patty as was the beef Gyro/Pita. BUT much like the GREEK-OWNED Diners of the region, prepared to perfection by the Greek cooks. I felt that these options maybe distracting from the star and maybe need not be on the menu. While our server Justin was awesome very nice and did an amazing job. I did notice everything around. All the staff works extremely hard check on customers asking how everything is going making sure people have drinks popcorn they for there butts off. 😉 How The restaurant Manger he works hard too. He works very hard making laps and staying as far away from guest as possible. While everyone else is working hard Jeff is walking around like a zombie. He is one of the laziest mangers I have ever seen and should be fired for get paid to do nothing. Food tasted good however the bacon mac and cheese is more like mac and cheese with bacon on top portion sizes a so small for the price you pay. Justin our server was awesome. Watching everyone else working as a team was nice to see. I would have give 5 stars had I seen the Manger even attempted to do anything but nothing. I went there on October 5th, for lunch with my granddaughters 2 and 4 years old along with their mother and grandmother . We were received by our hostess name Sadie. This request was made 3 times yet Sadie declined our wish and put us on the most furthest side of the restaurant. At that point we had ordered our drinks and appetisers which we received after 15 mins. Which then we ordered our main meals. Which were not got given to us after us requesting them, Sadie gave us 3 single crayons to split between 2 young girls. While the next table also had a child and they received a full pack of crayons at the time of being sat down. As we were getting impatient waiting for our meals to come we requested to speak with a manager. She walked around our area 3’times and gave us a nasty stare and along with Sadie stood with the manager that never approached us. We waited about 1hr 17 mins since we had ordered the food, the girls were getting quite impatient and we asked if we could do take out since our food order was taking so long. Katie at that point had brought out the bagged food as if they were just waiting for us to say that we wanted to leave. We were very disappointed for this service and the treatment that we had received. And especially being ignored by the manager for a simple request. We didn’t think that racist existed in a well known restaurant that we have always gone to.

So when it was suggested to meet there for dinner, I had to look to see where it was. It being on a nice side road off of Rt213 in Eddyville makes for a fairly private place to enjoy a meal or just a drink. So we met there on a weekend night in February, 2023. We figured that not many people will be boating and camping in winter, so it would probably be quieter. But to not take chances, we had reservations. We met in the bar first which had a nice country decor. I liked the display of beer taps mounted in array near the ceiling. The bar had a seat or two available when we arrived. But our group had a drink at a table instead. It had a jukebox mounted on the wall that looked like a tankless water heater. So it was a far cry from the old Rockola's from back in the day. It also costs a whole lot more per song. We didn't order a drink in the bar, as our friends were almost done with theirs. So we waited to be seated instead. We then proceeded into the dining room. It had an old country feel to it as well. There were probably a dozen tables or so. But it also had a piano and a recliner as well. We were not sure what the recliner was for, but maybe just to give it that homey feel. We were in by no means in a hurry, and that was good. There was only one table when we were seated. A third table came in right behind us. Then a couple more as time went on. There was just the one waitress to handle the dining room. She was very nice. We ordered one round of drinks with our diner. Although it turned out to be a before diner drink. We ordered water after the one drink, and our friends second. We also had plenty of time for my light beer to dissipate. As I read in other reviews, things move pretty slow here. As such it took quite a while for our drinks to come out. Then it took another half hour for the soup and salads to come out. Then it took quite a while more for dinner to come out. But we were fine with it as it gave us time to talk and enjoy our friends company. All in all we were there over three hours. But to be fair, the last half hour or so was us talking since the other folks started to clear out and no one else seemed to be coming in since closing time wasn't far off. The food was good. Some of us really liked it. Others felt it was okay, but not overly special. But nobody felt that it wasn't good. We didn't order dessert since we were full enough. The check came with one round of drinks, then water. Plus our meals with no appetizers or desserts. With a good tip, it was almost $50 per person. It was definitely more expensive than I would have expected. But not drastically so, and it seems to be like that everywhere in this area, including chain and fast food restaurants. All in all, I found The Anchorage to be a nice homey feeling restaurant that allowed us to have a nice long meal with friends, that we pretty much enjoyed all aspects of. I decided to try Buns Burger and I was extremely disappointed too thin , I ordered Buns Burger with condiments on side,sauce lettuce,tomato, when I received everything was added on burger I told cashier and she did not offer solution, had attitude, I also ordered chicken sandwich with condiments on side,again everything was added ,cashier gave no solution. French fries was also a disappointment ,soggy and thin,fries would be better if it was thicker and oil was drained. I will not be returning and wish this shop good luck,but in this day of inflation or not customers expect excellence especially if you order food( 2 sandwiches fries for $34.00 ,)there are plenty of restaurants that provide excellence. This place was a miss.
