I had the scoop salad and tomato soup. The soup was creamy but a little on the sweet side. Still good, but I prefer a savory soup over sweet. The chicken salad and (house made) pimento cheese were delicious. The chicken salad has grapes in it, which I LOVE. I know some of you don't. A special touch that I liked was that they have loose leaf tea. They pack it full and put it in a VERY large cup. I love that it added more flavor and I didn't have to ask for a refill. We finished our meal off with a HUGE slice of gluten free chocolate cake. It was rich and delicious! You will like this even if you don't do gluten free! We all loved it. Lunch time was crowded but not full so we were seated quickly and our meal consisted of the salad plate for my wife and I had probably the best Reuben I've ever had plus the sweet potato fries were soft and flavorful on the inside and not overly fried on the outside like I've experienced in most other restaurants. Great atmosphere and service along with the excellent food makes this a must for anyone traveling through these northeastern Georgia mountains for a pleasant surprise! Oh, and the desert display case of all varieties of cake slices would tempt absolutely anyone young or old or in-between, lol!

Good selection of beers on draft and many more in bottles or cans. The Tavern seemed understaffed for the weekend causing staff to be overwhelmed and service slow. I had great hopes with the name of tavern, bar would be a more appropriate name. Menu was creative but left our palettes wanting. Beercheese tasted like just regular cheese. The seasonal Apple burger was nothing special. The Fig About it, was lacking in figs spread. What dropped the score from a possible 4 and almost got a 2 was the fries. On the cool side of warm and definitely not hot. An inattentive kitchen is the possible cause. The Guniess was priced lower than most places (6.00), and came out in probably a 12oz glass, rather than a pint. I did appreciate the price difference of cash and credit up front on the menu.

The food is quality southern cooking to near perfection, with biscuits made for royalty. Seat yourself after entering the small front door (wheelchair-bound may have an issue). The prices are fair, and the breakfast plate combos are intelligently built on things people actually want to eat. The waitresses are kind and very concerned with making your experience pleasurable. The drinks could use a lot less ice. More than two sips from a large glass filled with mostly ice would be nice. The food was served fast, which related to being hot and fresh. The grits are creamy but still need at least one butter added. My only displeasure was the gravy ,which had no sausage in it ,and somewhat bland taste outside the light dosing of pepper. The biscuit made for the gravy was fantastic. Parking is difficult in Ellijay so get there early amd be prepared to walk a ways to get there. There are many ships to oeruse along the way but this Cafe' is worth the stop if your in town.

The soup was hot, however it seemed that it was not mixed properly with enough water out of a can: it was quite salty. Then when the waitress came with the order, she said there was no garlic bread due to a very busy weekend. i was charged for the meal in full without the garlic bread and given a few saltine crackers instead. I also observed some customers who came inside saying they had been waiting outside a long time when lunch rush had died down and there were several empty tables , so it wasn’t just me that was experiencing this. i hate leaving this review as i’ve worked in the restaurant industry myself, but i wanted to be honest about my opinion and hopefully it will help the business owners improve or maybe address these types of situations ahead of time : maybe put a sign in the front for customers to understand longer wait times due to staffing or a busy weekend and unavailability of menu items .

The parking was easy and plentiful. The restaurant ambiance was appropriate with darling signs indicating their Louisiana roots. It looks so humble and unassuming but it's been one of our favorite places on the road. The food is amazing. One day we had brunch. Our favorite dish was the Bad Dog - a hotdog covered with chili, cheese, and slaw. 😮 This place is actually really known for its breakfast. So a couple days later we came back. We got biscuits and gravy, and a cinnamon roll. Both were amazing. The biscuits were so soft and the gravy had just a slight pepper taste and wasn't too runny like so many other places. We also got a couple of biscuits but can't remember the name of them. There is some parking in the back. They can be busy but the service is so fast. For example, we went there around 9 in the morning and I don't remember seeing the drive thru line ever empty. Even drivers of big trucks will just park on the main road, in the turn lane, while they walk in to order. Despite a steady stream of customers coming in to order, I set a timer for a couple of them and they each had their food within a couple minutes. Another couple had their drink and biscuit within 1 minute from ordering. I was blown away. We also got to meet the owners learn a little about them and hear how they donate to the community. She said they're listening to customers who have mentioned ways the restaurant can be more environmentally conscious. For example, they served some of our food in biodegradable containers which you can see in some of the pictures and videos. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well and it seemed like they knew a lot of the customers. It really is a hidden gem. We'd love to come back.

Change at this location before it shuts down because if a continues to be ran the way it is. No one is gonna wanna eat there. Who wants to pay fifty dollars for shitty food and shitty service. When you say something to them about your food being done wrong. Or you're not having all your items. The waitress actually acted like it bothered her that we didn't just shut up and eat our food.

Even though we were about an hour from closing, we were welcomed. We chose meat and 3 - with a dessert for one of the three! We both had fried chicken. It was a little tough, due to being cooked a while - but it was juicy and flavorful. Green beans were the best I have ever had in a restaurant. Seasoned, but not loaded in onions. Other vegetables we had was corn, baked beans, Mac & Cheese - all were good. Dessert!! I had banana pudding and it was fantastic - just the right mix of bananas, vanilla wafers and pudding. Hubby had German chocolate cake. He said it was very good with the cake being nice and moist. We will definitely eat here the next time we are in the area.

Like genuinely disgusting with his job. I ordered the ultimate seafood platter with coleslaw and fries and a large drink. Waited in line with only one car in front of me for over 15 minutes. It was 1:02 when I placed my order and 1:18 when I got my receipt. I finally get my food, park, and open the box..to find the smallest fish filets I've ever seen, all the portions of food are no where near enough for the $19.24 I spent. Crab cakes are not very big but today they were bigger than the fish also way overcooked, almost burned. Fries were cold and about the same size as a McDonald's small fry. I've never been so disappointed in a restaurant experience as I have with this one today. Will not be back to this location ever, not even for free food.
