My 10 years old child ordered Veal and Parma Ham. The dishes were both absolutely and shockingly salty. Soon after I put mouthful of the spaghetti, I looked at my son and my husband. My son had an expression of surprise and putting his tongue out after eating his veal dish. He grabbed a glass of water and gobbled it. My husband ordered lamb shank and mashed potato. The sauce was saltier than other restaurants, but it was blended with plain mashed potato, so it was not bad - according to him. My son and I made so much effort to finish the dishes as we didn’t want to waste. But now - I feel I should have spoken with manager straight after we noticed the dinner was not good. It made my tongue numbing and we woke up a few times over the night because we were so thirsty and wanted to drink water! I am not laying, this is a true story. I wish it wasn’t. We spoke with a female waitress who has long blond hair when she brought a bill to our table. She gave me the following possible reasons why the dinner was so salty for us: 1. We are sensitive with salty food 2. The sprinkle of parmesan cheese made it too salty. 3. It was a seafood dish. So the seafoods themselves already can be salty. So that’s why. She stated she actually put too much parmesan cheese the other day. The dark haired female waitress who came and offered me sprinkling cheese only put a tea spoon of parmesan cheese on the spaghetti. I usually put that much cheese on my dinner at home/other Italian restaurants. Never had the same issue. I doubt it was salty because of the sprinkle of cheese! Am I sensitive to salt? - No way, I LOVE salty food, salty chips, dark soy sauce. In fact, I even carry around a sachet of Kikkoman Soy Sauce in my bag when I travel around and dine in outside as usually I find food not tasteless and has lack of Umami flavour. This is not a joke, I am Japanese and I find quite a few dishes in restaurants in this country have lack of taste. I certainly did bring a sachet of Kikkoman soy sauce this time of course, but I certainly did not need to use it! It saved one sachet but it certainly made us feel we wasted the £77 we had to pay. We had great time in Blenheim Palace that day with Jousting performance. But this bad experience which La Foglia in Banbury brought us really ruined our day, sadly. Really shocking way to serve dinner and I do recommend people to avoid this restaurant. I should probably write an email to the owner of this place. It is really unhealthy to serve such dishes. All the beautiful ingredients are ruined because of the careless cooking/neglect of the chef and possibly the owner. IF YOU WANT TO AVOID SUFFERING FROM HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE/IF YOU ALREDY HAVE, this restaurant is NO NO NO… and NO!!! We had use of their restaurant from noon until 5.30pm. Natalia and all the team were incredible; friendly, professional and so accommodating in every aspect. The set menu options were brilliant and allowed us to cater for toddlers, vegans and everyone else in between. Every guest was extremely impressed with the quality of the ingredients and the skill in both cooking and presentation. There was not one complaint from any guest about any course. I had the steak as my main and the quality was evident in every bite. Cooked to perfection (rare) and serviced with a delicious peppercorn sauce, that is so well balanced. The veg here is always cooked to perfection too with carrots/cauliflower/broccoli always crunchy and never soft. Their rosemary potatoes wedges are lovely too. This wasn’t my first time here; I often use it for both personal and business visits. It is, by some distance, the best restaurant in Banbury and you will have to drive a long way from Banbury to find another restaurant that can match it in all aspects (service, quality of ingredients, presentation). The restaurant was fairly busy but not heaving so we were greeted & seated almost immediately then directed to the menu & the app to place our order. We popped them on the table, where the drinks were waiting, & joined the queue for the hot buffet, dodging all of the impatient, pushy children that forced their way past to the ice cream factory. The pizza buffet was all but empty apart from a couple of pieces of vegetable pizza & some hard strips of garlic bread so we complimented them with a bowl of pasta each, which was frankly pretty tasteless & disappointing. When more pizza started to eventually come out, it was obvious that it wasn't just us that were waiting for the refill as the area became swamped again so we waited... Finally, more pizza started coming out so we got the chance to have a proper selection which was OK but no idea what anything was as nothing was labelled. At this point, our appetite's had pretty much disappeared so we had a couple of pieces each & left, without leaving a tip! I remember the lunchtime buffet as being really good value for money with quick service, excellent pizza & a really great salad bar but unfortunately it is not what it was & we should have gone with the chicken across the road.

I myself would not have returned as the last experience was cold beans, cold plate undercooked dry mushrooms that had not seen a cooking pan. Again cold plates but the worst thing was fried eggs that had either been cooked yesterday or very early before the pub opened at 9am. When this place was a Weatherspoons it was spot on for all meals. We will now only go to the Exchange in Banbury for food from now on. Bullet yolks and black on the bottom is not acceptable . If you want a very unenjoyable breakfast go to the Cherwell😢 Any cook or chef should know how to cook a perfect runny egg that is required for a full English! One star was for the Americano coffee. Following contact from the manager at The Cherwell who apologised for our bad experience of breakfast on the 17th April we were invited back for a complementary meal. We returned today, 25th April and had a complementary breakfast each. I also took my older uncle for whom I paid for a vegetarian breakfast. Unfortunately we won't be retuning in the future. The sausages on the plates of both my partner and I were cremated. I had to remove the first piece of the end of the sausage from my mouth as it was so hard and crunchy due to being extremely overcooked. On cutting open the sausages it was obvious that they had been either totally overcooked or reheated a number of times. Please see the picture attached. Dissapointingly whilst the mushrooms on the two full English were cooked, the mushrooms on the vegetarian breakfast were dried out and uncooked. Again see picture attached. We will not be returning to The Cherwell. Thanks to the manageress for trying to rectify the issue we had last time but it's obvious that the standard of cooking is below par.

The lunch is a generous helping and tasty home style cooked meal. I had the short ribs and it was fall off the bone tender. The meal was bulked up with chicken that was also tasty but I could have done without it as what I wanted was short rib, I would far have preferred another rib. The vegetables and rice were cooked well and the gravy was very tasty. The roasted beetroot was the star of the vegetables. To finish off the meal I had Malva pudding and custard. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. If you are after fine dining this is not it however if you feel like is a really relaxing Sunday lunch that is filling and delicious, and is also great for the whole family from Granny to the babies this very pretty venue makes for a nice outing. Personally if the weather is good I would choose to sit at a table in the garden as the gardens are well maintained and beyound beautiful in a rustic manner. The food is outstanding, as is the attention to detail in the dishes. The service is attentive, very family-friendly and prices are very good considering the high quality of the dishes here. I had the exquisite Korean Chicken to start, with a long-time favourite of mine, the Red Lion Burger for my main along with a pint of Purity's Lawless Lager. Amongst the menu highlights on our table were; Foccacia Bread, King Prawns and Olives and Almonds and wonderful Crispy Coconut Crumbed Tiger Prawn Skewers with a Sweet Chilli & Mango Dipping Sauce (specials menu). Mains recommended by our party were Sole, Surf n' Turf and from the specials menu - Lamb, Chickpea & Sweet Potato Curry with Basmati Rice, Flatbread & Mango Chutney. We didn't have desserts as we normally would today, as we were celebrating a birthday and planned to have cake at home (although this was kindly offered by the pub owners). This experience was polar opposites. The food was of poor quality. The steaks were too chewy and, despite receiving lots of complaints that evening, still continued to serve them throughout the evening. For around £45, the quality, portion sizes, and flavours were worth every penny — genuinely some of the best Indian food we’ve had in a long time. We had lamb samosas, a tandoori mix kebab starter, chicken korma, chicken ceylon, egg fried rice, garlic naan, keema naan, and of course, popadoms. Every dish was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. The lamb samosas were perfectly crisp with a rich, spiced filling; the tandoori mix was tender, smoky, and generous. Location Bit of a drive for this one out to Wroxton area, which on a cold rainy Saturday was not the nicest. But once there the car park is fairly large and the restaurant shines brightly in the dark winter eve. Interior For me, nothing special, the tables are clean and well presented but there wasn't a wow factor on decor. Not bad at all, just not great. We even had a little electric fan behind our table so they must get complaints about the draughts. Service Saturday night is a busy night but we found the entire service to be rather slow, taking a while to order, to clear the Poppadom plates, to serve the mains and eventually clear the mains. It wasn't a disaster but 2 hours for Poppadoms and a main is lengthy. Lucky I loved the company I was with ❤️. The team are however super friendly, welcoming and well presented so apart from beings super busy with all the customers no issue here. I won't comment on each but we had: Poppadoms & Chutney tray Chicken Tikka Masala - sauce was next level sweet without being sickly Veg masala Lamb rogan josh - a good kick to this and lamb was so tender Chicken korma - I could drink the coconut based sauce Chicken Towa - but dryer but packed with flavour Veg bhuna Saag Paneer - show stealer for me, more sauce than any other I have every had but the spinach and paneer combo with the sauce was just mindblowing! Plain & peshwari naan Drinks Standard drinks menu, we weren't here for the drinks so a pint of Cobra or Kingfisher works nicely Price At under £20 per head including drinks I am not complaining. It isn't winning awards for being cheap but it is for the value of the food vs the cost. Overall A solid curry had by all, the big question about best in Banbury? There are lots of others I have yet to try. I would say this place is up there currently and I will be back again but I am not convinced it's number one just yet!

We managed to book a table for that same day. Upon arrival we ordered drinks, wow I noticed they had an IPA on tap called Bombay bicycle, to be fair it was a good pint. Tandoori Chicken, lamb and minced lamb in masala sauce, the meat was very tender with a mouth watering flavoursome masala sauce. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, the choice of drinks is to a minimum, a few wines, couple of beers, coke and fruit juice, also the green tea. I stayed in Banbury for 5 days as part of a business trip to the town. I certainly made the right choice in booking the Cromwell Lodge. The moment I walked in the staff were friendly and helpful. Margi and Lizzie were always welcoming and happy to have a chat when I got back, and genuinely wanted to know a bit more about me, what I did and how my day had been. The hotel has lots of character! My room was on the front of the hotel, the floor was a bit wonky and the floorboards creaked a bit, but that's what old buildings do, so no complaints. I had no issues with noise from the road during the night, the fair had just started, and I didn't have any noise issues from that, probably as it was the children's end and the rides shut down quite early. Food in the hotel is excellent, the quality and presentation is very good and prices are more than reasonable. Breakfast was very good too, lots of choice and plenty of it. Tim is a great host at breakfast time and works really hard to please his customers. I wasn't pushed to eat in the hotel, again Margi and Lizzie were quite happy to suggest places where I can eat and also a couple of places that I would be better not to go to! Cutlery dirty, food that did come was luke warm - didn’t complain as what’s the point? Empty glasses stacked up as staff were too busy being social with each other than cleaning! Our puddings came but dinner stuff not cleared away, so no room on the table. There were lots of empty tables, the pub was half empty, so how was it so behind? The piles of dirty glasses should be out of customer views! Maybe the glass cleaner was broken? Must be… The only thing going for it was plenty of spare tables at my time of visiting but after my visit I think I know why! Oh! And they should learn what a fire exit is for.

It was a warm day so, despite the yurt looking an amazing place to dine, we opted to sit outside. The outside seating is basically next to the garden centre - don't be put off by this, it made for a very lovely dining experience. Staff were great, pleasant and attentive without being pushy. Had the outside bar open for ease,a table with fresh water jugs for us to help ourselves to and a bowl of sweets for the kiddies! I explained this to the server, she took it away (no apology or anything) and came back to ask if I was allergic or whether it was preference. The food here is really very very good. Absolutely rammed full of proper depth of flavour. All of our meals were really good. I particularly like Rezala and it did not disappoint. We were greeted with a very warm welcome by all. They introduced themselves which was lovely. We went for the bengal spice meal deal which is £25.95 per person. We like to mix it up when going for an Indian and always try new dishes so this is great if you want the chef to surprise you. We told our waiter (can’t remember his name) the spice level we wanted and left it up to them to decide. For starters we had chicken tikka and vegetable samosas. Mains were chicken bengal masala and achari lamb which were to die for. Then sides of bhindi bhajee, and Bombay aloo with garlic naan and rice. All of this was delicious and a lovely surprise. The decor of the restaurant suggests quality and has a definite Turkish flavour abut it. For starters, the 4 of us shared the hot sharing platter with an additional cold aubergine dish of Ali Nasik, we were also given on the house Turkish bread and 2 dips - a chilli/tomato dip and a garlic/yogurt dip. Everything was great - especially the Sucuk or Turkish Sausage. For my main course I had the Gul special mixed grill which included chicken & lamb shish, chicken wings and lamb kofte. The shish was especially delicious being tender and juicy but well cooked with a lovely barbecue/charcoal flavour. The mixed grill came with rice and salad - the rice having a lovely flavour and texture. I'd wanted a Turkish wine to go with it but due to the hectic bank holiday weekend there was no Turkish wine left so we had the Australian Shiraz which was a typical punchy Shiraz. Finally we were presented with complimentary baklava and ice cream which was delicious and very fresh. An excellent meal served by very friendly/helpful staff.

We’ve been eating here since it first opened and always had a fantastic meal with amazing service. Last night though, changed all this and we will never go back again. We arrived at 7:45pm and didn’t get our food until 9:30pm. The service was awful, everyone in the restaurant was complaining of the same. When we asked how long the food was going to be, the waiter just said, “It’s going to be a long time”. We asked what he meant as we’d already been waiting an hour and he said about 15-20 more minutes as they only have one chef doing everything. Granted, they will have been busier than usual due to the Eat out to help out offer, but prepare yourselves properly and get enough staff in. They honestly shouldn’t have opened at all to save their reputation. We only ate here a couple of weeks ago and had an amazing meal with great sized portions and a friendly guy serving us, but in this short space of time, there seemed to be different people working here and a completely different attitude. Same menu but really poor quality food. My husband had his usual of the special mixed grill and what came was half the portion he usually gets and they didn’t even bother bribing out the extra portion of chips we ordered. I ordered the lamb chops and what I got were tough chewy lamb steaks. We just paid and left, there wasn’t any point in complaining further as it wouldn’t have made a difference to them or us, we just wanted to leave and will never go back again which is really sad.

However, equipped with sufficient cash just in case, we had a very pleasant meal. I had the prawns and the mixed grill, complimented perfectly with Turkish beer. To be fair the food was very good, but the meat on the mixed grill tasted fairly samey as it was cooked on charcoal, but a minor detail. The staff was first-class, attentive and efficient. The restaurant was comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere. I would give 4 1/2 stars and will go back.

Just us and one other table in dining room and what seemed like a couple of locals in the bar area. Staff were very pleasant but quite slow. Not taken through to the dining room, just shown the area and had to ask for menus and for drinks order to be taken. Asked for a half pint Coke Zero but given 2 x bottles of regular coke in a pint glass. Slow service from bar/waiting on staff but the food was delicious! Lovely building, beautifully decorated and nice atmosphere. Service charge included in the bill.

Great beer selection, they cater for everything. We’ve also had some lite bites, which we can only speak positively about. The food feels healthier than other places, perhaps it’s how it is prepared - but retains its flavour, particularly the chicken. I think the new owners are doing a great job, very welcoming and top hospitality. Also great to see so many local people behind the bar - it creates a real community atmosphere which is key.
