My mum, sister and I visited The Griff House Beefeater recently and had a brilliant experience from start to finish. We all ordered steaks — two with Diane sauce and one with peppercorn — and every single one was cooked perfectly to our preference. The triple-cooked chips were deliciously crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside, and the peas, mushroom and grilled tomato were all spot on too. We chose a deal that included dessert, and they were happy to cater for my mum’s gluten intolerance. Their separate gluten-free menu makes life so much easier and is massively appreciated. The Jam Shed wine was lovely, and the service was excellent as usual. The cooked breakfast was well presented on our plates, and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and the pub was cosey. The food was great, I had the vegan cheesy garlic bread with caramelised onions, it was lovely I would have preferred more cheese. I then had the vegan steak, this tasted great, however, it was not a steak. It was effectively a burger. I think having it on the menu as a steak is misleading, the texture just wasn't there for it to be a steak. It tasted amazing and will make some epic burgers. This steak is homemade and you can tell, if the texture was a more pulled texture as opposed to a minced texture then it would have been perfect. Their homemade peppercorn sauce was great too. For pudding I had the knickerbocker glory, it was nice to have a sundae style pudding. As a vegan that feels like we get the short straw a lot, I did feel very included with this menu, thank you. Wow! It was fab. From the reception we received from all the team, with lots of smiles, really well trained and full of enthusiasm, to the great Sunday roast! It was really refreshing to find something as good as this, quite unexpectedly! Our food was excellent… the menu was comprehensive, and the non Sunday roast looked great too. Four mains: one pork and three beef, including one gluten free, which all hit the spot. The Yorkshire puddings are genuinely THE BEST AND BIGGEST! The korma we ordered was super dry and tasted like it wasn’t originally a korma. Very disappointed in the service, we were shouted to across the bar when we arrived to see if we had a booking, then shown a seat in the bar, we asked to go in the restaurant. It's not even comparable to sweet treats - drive the extra distance! Would rate them as cheap and cheerful, but could be better. We ordered quite a few things totalling around £45: chicken and sweetcorn soup, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour chicken, bbq ribs, special fried rice, salt and chilli chicken, char sui pork with vegetables, large meat spring rolls, and we got prawn crackers and 2 fortune cookies for free. I'm not overly impressed unfortunately. The chicken curry was so spicy, that for us it was inedible. It was full of flavour though so if you don't mind the heat, you'd enjoy it! We asked for boiled rice but received some kind of fried rice with it which I liked but the kids wouldn't touch it. There was barely any chicken in the curry at all and the pieces were so tiny. We had a portion of chips which was a very small portion compared with what we normally get elsewhere and the chips were definitely under done. I've had to stick them in the air fryer to colour them up a bit but they are bland and not very nice. Chicken balls were again, a very small portion compared to what we normally get and were a bit soggy with the tiniest piece of chicken inside. I wouldn't order from here again because for us, overall we got much smaller portions and it cost almost £10 more than our local Chinese and we didn't really enjoy it at all, there was a lot of waste unfortunately.

However I also ordered a Singapore chow mein. Probz the worst one I've ever eaten, noodles were all mushy like a pot noodle. Not sure if related to the shop itself but on the phone, the delivery driver kept going in about the location of the chippy which was really confusing when trying to meet them. Like he was trying to brag about the chippy being 'good', but it was awful! Never going again and would not reccomend, I felt sick all night and didn't even get a refund.
