The staff are always friendly and very welcoming, especially to our pooch Bryn who can also get his favourite treat (chicken jerky) here. The menu is recently updated and now has some new nacho, taco and salad dishes. We can recommend the vege nachos, the Buddha bowls and the pizzas are very good. When busy, the wait can be a little longer, but the food is always worth it. This is a favourite place for a quick dinner out and we are still looking for an occasion to use the sauna and spa areas. Or in our case, 2 nights. Electric hook up and water is available too. And our parking place was parked by a few traffic cones. Great menu and a good selection of beers. Before choosing to eat here we were looking through menus of what the alternative pubs were offering and the menus were standard with pub classics nothing new that made me want to go there. We then come across the menu at the millers and found that there are menu options that we had just not seen anywhere else. The choice of meals was good and they have specials for certain nights of the week, but the Pork Valentine drew me to this pub. The eating area was spaced out, I am sure they could additional tables in there but that would spoil the feeling of space. The restaurant area had pleasant natural light and was clean. The food lived up to expectations and was plentiful and we really enjoyed the evening there. Outside had a big wooden hut, but everyone was sitting out in the sun. Walked into town and along the riverbank on Saturday night. Was lovely weather so it was busy but managed to grab a table outside at this restaurant. We were greeted by absolutely lovely staff who could not do enough for us. The menu promised lots but the place delivered nothing but bitterness and regret. The papadums (£3), served broken in a basket, were amongst the worst I've ever had, thick and older than my nan (as opposed to the naan, which was about the best part of the meal!). The accompanying sauces (£2) served in thimble sized portions-advertised as homemade made, about as homemade as a Pot Noodle. We went as a group of 6, arriving as 2 separate parties. We arrived 2nd and our party was found and we were seated with them. It was fairly busy when we arrived, with all but one table seated. I had the tzatziki, souvlaki and the feta mall and they were all really tasty. My partner however is vegetarian and as the vegan mousakka was out of stock found the options to be quite limited and not that filling. The halloumi skewers say that they are with veg but they are just with some cherry tomatoes and come with some lettuce leaves rather than the greek salad and the chips as the meat one does. All in all the food was beautifully cooked but not the best for vegetarians.

We had a lovely evening meal with older parents and my ASC kid. Our waitress had patience as I explained my kids food requirements and double checked with the kitchen to make sure. Definitely a welcoming and friendly environment for all of our needs. There was a fantastic allergy information sheet at the back of the menu, including ones which could be removed while being prepared. This made it super easy to find the vegan options, and there were loads! I think a lot of other establishments could do this. There's a wide range of dishes, and something for everyone who likes Chinese food, including some dim sum, and mock, soya based meats. I also liked that there was a range of vegan dishes with out tofu or mock meat. Sometimes we just want some healthy veggies! When our food came out it was piping hot, and in suitable quantity to feed us all. My only wish is that my tofu in black bean sauce could have been a little bit spicier! However this is totally a personal taste thing, and not a big deal. There wasn't one dish we didn't like. I have to admit, this city slicker was impressed to find Chinese food with even more vegan options and info than some of the places back home in the hippie capital of the UK (Brighton!). It felt like a typical prepared ready for microwave spaghetti boulogne which you can get from Tesco on the other side of the street. Pasta wasn't al dente and it tasted like the cheapest available pasta. At the top of that for some reason I had green pesto! The one thing I find weird & different from Canada is ordering at the bar rather than having a server come to the table. The menu is crazy, so many different plates! Which sometimes can be bad but everything we tried was amazing! Some good beers but no Welsh or local ones unfortunately. The place is littered with pictures on the walls - over 200! But it looks nice how it’s done. Apparently it was a department store way back in the day which gives it a bunch of different areas to choose to sit. Very nice and would highly recommend going! So glad I did absolutely amazing, walked in greeted straight away by an extremely helpful member of staff. You can order at bar in person or at the table by scanning QR code. The atmosphere was brilliant the restaurant was extremely clean and the decor is the best for miles in my opinion. It's the sort of place you leave the world outside and for a while forget any troubles. Menu has a lot to choose from nothing over priced quality and service is what I would only expect in a high end restaurant. After arriving home opened the bag and the food had been squashed in so all the three curry and rice trays were everywhere !! Then when I got there showed the women behind the counter and she said that the food was fine when it left the shop she obviously didn’t check it because it was terrible. I got a chicken ball out and opened it up and oil and grease was all there to see she took it off me and said no oil or grease on there and then she wiped her fingers with the oil and grease on a cloth (mad). I did have a full refund but with no apology as I had to make another trip down the shop in this weather ! I’ve become increasingly disappointed and I won’t be going there again. The food is adequate but they seem to be trimming back gradually on how much meat is in a portion, while the price remains the same. On the plus side it is broadly a little cheaper than the other two Chinese restaurants in Bulwark, but not by much. The main problem is customer service. If you go into the shop to order in person and the phone rings while you’re at the counter, you have to wait for them to take the phone order. After last visit which was very good . This visit was not very good first the good news the steak pie and the gamon were good . The bad was the lasagne it was dry and not finished by the three of our party who were unanimous in saying it was the driest lasagne that had ever had. The one and only positive was the speed of delivery but everything else was only deserved of a negative review. The delivery driver was actually quite rude and didn't even say thank you but I thought he might have been nervous of our dogs. Even when I had sent them away he was extremely blunt. The food itself was disgusting and despite being hungry neither my wife nor I could eat it. A simple pizza was smothered in cheese with next to no tomato base and what should have been pepperoni was actually salami. My wife had ordered a lamb kebab and what turned up was a lamb wrap with a salad that looked and tasted as if it had been sweating in a shop window for hours. There certainly wasn't anything fresh about it. The lamb, if you can call it that was cheap, cold, gristle. I'm from an agricultural background and know what good quality meat tastes like. As I come to the end of this review my stomach is already complaining about the rubbish I've just put into it and I have a feeling it won't be long in coming back. I dread to think of the hygiene standards this was cobbled together in but I certainly wouldn't order from them again. Finally I should give them some credit. They've managed to deliver something not even my dogs will eat which is in itself a miracle.

The four of us were delighted with our meals and whilst 2 are going back home to Australia we are looking forward to our next treat of a visit - felt proud that we could show them a Welsh place for a great lunch. The people are super nice and friendly, the atmosphere was excellent and pricing was also excellent. I would give them a five but they do need to do some painting and lots of updating in the rooms. The rooms were clean but need more power plugs, a new splash of paint, definitely new bathrooms with a new look, and they would do well to have split air conditioning in each of the rooms. The corridors could do with new paint, better lighting and new carpets of tiled flooring. Improvements would also allow them to up the price of the rooms. I do understand that you don't want to lose the old quaintness but you still need to stay with the clientele. I would definitely stay here again but they do need those updates, and it would certainly warrant a higher price.

Location can't be beaten. The bar inside is wonderful and friendly. Reasonable priced drinks and good quality food available. We stay here every time we go to Chepstow or Bristol for the wave pool. First impressions were okay. Quite a central location and a standard pub, can’t go wrong with that. But everything changed when we saw the room. Firstly, the room was in the car park, literally in the car park! The car park also backs on to the beer garden so you can imagine what kind of sleep we had with people and cars making noise constantly. The only thing that stopped people from walking into the room was a very flimsy door. Even the guy checking us in was embarrassed as to how bad it is. As you walk into the room, the first thing that hits you is a strong smell of mould. There’s barely any ventilation in the room so I’m not surprised about the smell. After a quick look, we saw that the bathroom had quite a bit of mould on the ceiling and the shower tray which was just disgusting. Apart from the mouldy shower, it took 10 minutes of constantly running the shower to get a drop of hot water which is a joke really. As you can see from the pictures, the walls were dirty, skirting boards are pealing, the curtain doesn’t cover the window so people from outside can look through the window and there’s no hiding from the light in the morning (again amazing sleep…). The bed mattress felt like it was slept on by at least a couple of thousand people. Every spring was digging into our backs which again contributed to the “amazing” sleep. And the absolute best part of the whole endeavour was that the room cost £100 per night. I simply couldn’t believe that something in such bad condition could fetch this amount per night. And to top it off, breakfast was not even included but we didn’t want to eat there anyways given the state of general hygiene around the place. If you can, avoid at all cost!

The menu is basic, which is fine, but the quality is not there at all especially for the price. Higher prices than London with low end quality and ingredients. The service was not great, not through the fault of the staff but by the management and training. For breakfast we were seated and then went straight to the buffet. Huge queues for breakfast despite having to book a time for breakfast. During our dinner we were moved from our original table because it was reserved for another couple. Not the biggest of problems but the restaurant was empty and we were moved to another small table of the same size. When we sat down at the new table the 3rd place setting was not cleared. The cutlery were not matching. The glasses were not clean and we weren’t offered any water. During the meal we were asked if everything was alright 20 seconds apart (mid mouthful). It may be a matter of taste but the carpet was really not great at all. All small things that add up and that do not justify their prices.

The food was average at best, but the prices were EXTORTIONATE. Plus they have the cheek to add a high service charge on the bill by default. I found that too little salt was used in the cooking for my liking - and I NEVER normally add salt to my meal. Portions large - neither of us ate all our meals. Service was polite, courteous and accutate by charming staff but rather slow. The restaurant was not particularly busy at the time we ate and yet it took 2.5 hours for our 3 course meal. The cost was expensive for what we ate. Also, 12.5% service charge added to the bill which the waitress explained was shared by the waiting staff & kitchen staff. The food was really tasty, and I ended up so full I honestly can not fit anything else in. We can not comment on normal service days, but the self-service carvery was amazing. Will be going back again at some point. That being said, found it hard to find the place as they moved due to covid, so the signs were all wrong. I did have to ask a couple of times for water before getting it. Also, I had to ask a couple of times before we managed to get the order in for drinks. But I am putting that down to communication issues on their end, so that's why 4 stars. Staff were very friendly. Do note prices are higher, but I think the price point is about right for what was on offer.

Waiting staff were attentive & courteous. Menu was really quite limited for such a large & iconic Establishment in this area & regarded of High Quality. Had to send my fillet steak back as was way overdone after my request for medium/rare, more on the rare side please. Steak was very thin for a fillet & not of any particularly good quality for the price being asked. This was then not charged for. Thank You for that. We asked for an Irish Coffee & told they had run out of cream! I think some quality control is needed on all levels.
