Boy, did they live up to the hype, we had a fantastic experience. The welcome was warm, the service was great, there was a massive gin and wine list to choose from, and the food? The food was epic! We went for 'The Big One' fish platter. Dressed crabs, prawns, crayfish tails, cockles, four types of smoked fish (salmon, trout, mackerel and eel), and roll mops as well, plus there's potato salad and dressed leaves. All of it was so fresh and absolutely delicious. It was probably enough to feed three people to be fair because we both waddled out of the restaurant afterwards feeling absolutely stuffed, but with massive smiles on our faces. We'll definitely be coming back!

Kelly, Scott and their great team deliver every time without fail. Made to feel like they open their doors just for us. We hadn’t booked (rookie mistake, I know!) but unlike so many restaurants that make you feel you’ve committed some terrible crime, the team couldn’t have been more welcoming. They did everything they could to seat us, with genuine warmth and kindness. I’d been craving proper fresh crab, and this lovely, clean, tidy and beautifully run restaurant delivered in style. The menu is bursting with seaside goodness — crab, lobster, fresh fish, platters and more. We went for the dressed crab, panko-crumbed prawns and a crab Thermidor. Then came the drinks — and hats off to Kelly (the owner, I believe) who offered beer options with the same care usually reserved for fine wines: light, dark, local, shelf temperature or chilled. I opted for the local East Quay “Golden Buoy” (chilled) — absolutely spot on! Now the food… the tomatoes were deep red, perfectly ripe and full of flavour (none of those fridge-cold imposters that ruin a good salad!). Every element — from the pickles to the beetroot — was delicious and perfectly balanced. The crab was beautifully prepared and packed with flavour, and the crab Thermidor topped with goats’ cheese and breadcrumbs was divine. The panko prawns were crisp, light and piping hot — perfection. Izzi had a great choice from the children’s menu, which deserves a special mention. It was proper homemade food — no cheap frozen nonsense here! Her chicken goujons were freshly made, golden, crispy and real chicken breast through and through. Every member of staff was friendly, attentive and clearly proud of what they do — and rightly so. All in all, it was a superb meal from start to finish, in a lovely relaxed setting. We honestly can’t wait to go back.

I’ve stopover place. Stumbled on the glove and boy was I glad I did! I arrived in the dark and was greeted by a wonderful lit building that had an instant charm to it. I checked in and was shown to my room that was warming and plentiful. A quick shower ( now that was my only issue, the shower was loose on the tiles and not very powerful) Then down for a drink and food, the menu was really nice and proved to produce the quality in the food. Ham hock terrine with a a gerkin ketchup, wow that was lovely. Bangers and mash was also really good. My sleep was ok, but that’s down to being away from home not the bed. Breakfast time and this was the highlight for me, superb! I had avocado with poached eggs and asked if I could have some smoked salmon on the side.. they brought me a lot of salmon which was awesome. The service was excellent, quick to order & receive both food & drink. The food was fabulous, Roast beef was cooked medium rare, the whole dinner was tasty with the added bonus of a huge Yorkshire pudding. We purchased 4 dog sausages for the dogs. At a cost of £1 each. We were staying locally and struggled to get an earlier booking for food, so the first table we could get was 8.15. We were early, so had a drink at the bar while we waited. We then had to seat ourselves as no one returned to show us to the table. We weren't given menus, water, cutlery or napkins. So we repeatedly had to approach the bar and request extra items. We finally managed to order and we didn't get mains until after 9.15 (an hour after arrival). The starters were fine, then we were asked about dessert before we got the mains. The mains were dreadful. The fish batter was overcooked, the chips were old and reheated. The peas were just a watery mess. The curry sauce was just congealed oil. The chicken schnitzel was also a congealed paste on top of just fried matter. Similar case with the chips. The "coleslaw" seemed to be left over lettuce in a watery pile. At this point we had to complain and request the food to be taken away. The manager was helpful and offered more food to be given (as well as not charging us) but by this point, it was nearly 10pm. We were tired, hungry and a bit miserable. The Chestnut group has taken over many restaurants / hotels recently and the food has taken a massive hit. The quality has dropped in all locations and the price keeps doubling. It is simply not worth it. Such a shame as you used to be able to trust this brand, but now, I will not be returning to anything Chestnut owned. Loyal customers deserve better.

Staff very friendly and welcoming and the food was great, I can highly recommend the crispy seafood basket starter and the burger all very tasty. My partner had the ham hock terrine starter and the seafood bouillabaisse which she loved. Great portion sizes and had a nice bottle of Gavi with it. There is a good wine list here and I actually found it difficult to choose which to have, shame I won’t be back until next time were down on holiday this way. Its a beautiful place to stay, the rooms are a little small but beautifully decorated and furnished and it was immaculately clean. Really good full English breakfast, proper bacon,proper sausage all cooked very well and one of the best full English breakfast I’ve had for a very long time. My wife had the Veggie breakfast which she really rated and my daughter had the banana pancakes which she said they were very tasty but could have had a little more toppings. Great cup of yorkshire tea and a cappuccino was good too. Very friendly staff. Throughly recommend this place, I will be back again. Well done top marks from us.

When we first arrived we were waiting a short while to be seated despite the young woman acknowledging we were there, however she was moving a table so this may have taken priority. When we were greeted by the man he was really pleasant and got us seated. The view was lovely and the food was out of this world. It was so good to see the choice of gluten free options, as this is rare. I originally chose the seafood platter but the waiter explained that most of the items on there couldn’t be made gluten free. Which is absolutely fine and I’m glad that he explained this to me so that I could choose a better option. Again, the food was divine - I had the sea trout and my partner had the burger. The only thing that unfortunately let the restaurant down was the service. Whilst I appreciate that there were only two front of house members of staff on, the restaurant actually wasn’t that busy. Our order was taken promptly and the food came out promptly as well. However, none of the staff came over to check that our meals were ok and when we had finished eating, we were waiting half an hour for our plates to be cleared/dessert menus to be given. It was clear that we had finished eating as after 10 minutes we moved our plates to the edge and our table was looked at on multiple occasions just not in vocal reach for us to say. The young woman was polishing glasses behind the bar and on numerous occasions looked over. This resulted in us taking it upon ourselves to skip the dessert as it was looking unlikely that the staff were coming over anytime soon and we then went over to the bar to pay our bill with our plates still left on the table. It’s a shame because we would have liked to stay longer to polish off a dessert with it being an anniversary meal. I did mention this to the young woman as we left. The room was beautifully presented and the staff were exceptionally welcoming. The parking attendants on Lady Anne’s Drive were also very friendly and helpful, much like all of the staff throughout our visit. It's a nicely finished room but sadly the double bed is tiny, and being above average height I found my feet hanging over the end of the very firm mattress, even as my head was touching the headboard. With two of us sharing the bed it was extremely cosy, and sadly neither of us slept at all well. We had dinner in the restaurant on the night of our arrival, and that was a decent meal. However, it was rather expensive and I can't say that the quality justified the price. The biggest disappointment however was the included breakfast. We both had The Vic's Full Breakfast. The beef sausage was bitter and unpleasant, the bacon dry, the mushroom shrivelled and tiny, the tomatoes watery, and the poached eggs tasted more of vinegar than eggs. Had we paid separately this would have cost us around £25 each, so I take some comfort in not having paid extra for it. However, I would avoid the breakfast at all costs. Sadly, I cannot recommend The Victoria Hotel at all, it is simply over priced for the quality of the food and accommodation we "enjoyed". Ordered online, and food just coming out of the oven at the pick up time. Salad was presented to an eat in level, and was fresh and tasty, with a mix of tomato types. It was early 5pm when we sat down and only at 80 percent capacity it got full very quickly. We ordered 2 starters to share and one pepperoni pizza. The food arrived quickly but altogether. We would have preferred to eat starters first. The water we had was warm which was disappointing. The pizza crust and base had burnt in places so was inedible. Don't serve burnt food. The pepperoni was sparce only 16 pieces on a large so some slices had only one piece. The staff were friendly and efficient. The bill arrived quickly with service charge included for a table of 2. I would rather leave the tip in cash so waitress gets in on the shift. Overall it was lovely to see a new restaurant. And it's busy. For the quality of food I would say it's very expensive. Pizza needs to be improved. Desserts we're lovely.

From start to finish the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, we asked for an extra cold beer and our server brought it over in a mini ice bucket which we thought was hilarious. The pizza dough tasted fresh and they didn’t scrimp on the toppings and the truffle and Parmesan fries were delicious too. Also we were able to takeaway our leftovers which meant we got to enjoy the pizza again on the beach the next day.
