Came to Dunbar for the day and stopped in here for dinner. Little did I realize this would be one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Each part of the meal is made with care and everything was extremely fresh. The service and environment was outstanding. I did the three course meal and it was above and beyond. If you are in Edinburgh and want to venture out to a neat seaside town with some good history or if you’re coming to Dunbar in general I highly recommend eating here. Amazing.

For starter we had portobello mushroom stuffed with goats cheese and the Cullen Skink. Both fantastic but the Cullen Skink topped it - creamy and warming! For mains we had the steak and seabass moilee. The steak was perfectly cooked and the crispy, salty onion rings on top were out of this world. The coconut curry sauce with the seabass was perfectly paired too. The service, by the mother of the chefs, was brilliant. It was personal and made for a lovely atmosphere. The building itself is beautifully decorated. Hard to say if it was original panelling or just brilliantly fitted. It was super cosy too! I would 100% recommend this hidden gem for a romantic meal. No kids allowed for the evening meal session which was a treat (they are allowed from 12 until 2 if you want to take your kids - we didn't 🤣) Overall, outstanding!

The Scotch egg starter was extraordinary, as well as the beef fillet, the risotto and the raspberry dessert. Most of the dishes are glutenfree. They also have a nice wine list. The staff is lovely, I definitely recommend going, advanced booking might be necessary, especially during the weekends.

I happened upon the Creel restaurant whilst overnighting at the harbour. There was a great atmosphere & a warm welcome upon arrival. The service was great, with genuine warmth & interest in the dialogue with the patrons. The food was amazeballs! I had their own cured trout to begin, which was a delight! The star of the show was the hake main, though! This perfectly cooked fish came with a potato & celeriac rosti, a celeriac puree & mushrooms; it was a sublime flavour combination! A perfect lemon posset to finish! This is likely to be only my first visit, with Dunbar now likely to be a regular diversion!

No photo can describe the texture and flavour. Perfectly tender but with a slight crisp to the outside. The whole menu is excellent and the service is great too. We were not disappointed. The relaxed cosy atmosphere is obvious when you walk in and greeted with friendly staff. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the fresh fish was some of the best I've had, with decent vegetarian options for starters and mains for others in our group. Highly recommend and we will look for an excuse to drive up again soon!

Was a bit apprehensive after some of the reviews, however we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a bit odd as there were not many guests and very few staff. One staff member, Janie seemed to be there most of the time and appeared to do everything except cook. When Janie wasn't there, there were no staff, the front door was locked (you got a key.) She was very friendly, helpful and professional, despite having much to deal with. There were a couple of issues - non delivery of food and a plumbing emergency which closed the kitchen, but she dealt with this professionally and overcame the problems despite some irate guests. The food we did get was fabulous! Dinner was delicious. As was the cooked breakfast, the best Eggs Benedict I've ever eaten, and my partner said black pudding was the best he's ever had. The hotel is situated a ten minute walk from the centre of Dunbar with beautiful views over the coast and golf course. Lovely coastal path next to the hotel. The hotel grounds could do with tidying up a bit but the hotel itself was clean and tidy. The reception was not always manned, there were no staff there overnight. This didn't bother us at all. The room was nice enough, comfortable with a good shower and plenty of hot water. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

The waitstaff was inexperienced; eager and helpful, but not well trained. They made the evening. The restaurant decor is smart and tasteful. On to the food: At this price range its high end restaurant prices, but the food didn't match sadly. First off they had ran out of wine under £26 apart from one bottle. We had cullen skink which was ok, but didn't have any cream in it and had potato that needed more cooking. The other starter was a bucket of seafood. My wife enjoyed this but i thought it needed to be more crispy and needed more seasoning. For our mains i had a burger which came recommend. It was ok and was a decent size, but the pattys were a bit rubbery, overcooked and lacked seasoning. I've had too many burgers like this from pubs, i should learn my lesson. The fries were great though. The other main was a fish curry. At £18 you would expect king prawns, a crab claw even? But it was pretty much a vegetable curry with a few bits of fish (possibly even the smoked haddock that seems to be in everything). The curry was ok, but not £18 ok. The rice that came with the curry was well overcooked and mushy. To be fair on the restaurant they replaced the rice quickly, but the second lot was mushy also. We were offered a couple of quid off the bill or a desert for free. We took the desert. This was a nice gesture and welcomed. We ordered sticky toffee pudding, which was decent enough but didn't blow us away. I realise this review is long and moany, but i felt it had to be written. The restaurant has a good rating on Google and promised much. But at that price range it didn't deliver. I heard the restaurant is under new ownership, so that may be part of it. They need to work on the menu, some more fish options that aren't smoked haddock would be welcome.

We visited today, 2/5/21 to have food outside at 2pm. The one pasta dish advertised was finished. We had a meatball pie and a spicy sausage roll. The pie was cold tasteless and soggy. Despite having asked for them to be heated, they arrived suspiciously quickly and the sausage roll was cold in the middle, very greasy indeed and too big to get your mouth round with ease. We had taken them away with us in our vehicle but only a few minutes drive; we were unable to finish either of them. The coffee and walnut cake was ok but a little dry. We waited ages for our coffee and it turned out to be hot milk with very little flavour and we didn’t finish them either. All in all a total waste of £15.00 and so disappointing. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was craving, apart from something sweet. I seen they had pastries on the shop window which is what drawn me in. I ended up going with a couple. I got the almond croissant and another pastry with chocolate and hazelnut which I can’t remember the name of. I was asked if I wanted a drink which I initially said no to but then I seen they did bounty hot chocolates so I got that as well. The woman that served me was pleasant enough but gave off slightly awkward vibes. Although maybe it was me that made her uncomfortable. I learnt that many of the bakery/sweet treat items are bought in but they do make their own scones and the soups and light lunches are all homemade. Everything I bought I felt was reasonably priced. I decided to take away. Firstly I had the hot chocolate which was pretty good. I didn’t get strong flavours of bounty but I suppose you don’t want it overpowering do you. Equally I don’t remember it having a complex flavour profile. It was more of an ordinary hot chocolate. It was served just at the right temperature and was well presented with cream on top. I chose not to have lid to preserve the appealing presentation. I feel that it was lacking the desired velvety texture and was maybe a bit on the watery side. The pastries were a little disappointing. The flavours of the fillings were nice but the texture was a bit stodgy. It was definitely lacking the ideal lightness you look for in a pastry. It was almost a bit doughy and heavy, and certainly lacking the layers. A few years ago I would be more complimentary of these but my standards have changed since I’ve had many excellent pastries over the years. Don’t get me wrong I still gobbled it up and didn’t leave a crumb. Overall I believe a 3 star is fair. Perhaps my score would improve if I had sat in and tried some of their main offerings so I suppose it’s a reason to come back.

After many months they have reopened in Octobrt 2025 and we are happy to report everything is still delicious! Dunmuir pops up on the list with a 6 minute drive from where were, coming down from Fort William. 3 stars, reasonably priced B&B. 1 room left. "Sounds bang on, get it booked" Turned up to really warm and friendly welcome. A sense that nothings too much trouble. The room was genuinely beautiful. Spotlessly clean, big comfy bed a shower and a bath. The evening meal was stunning. A little nod to the sticky toffee pudding... lush... You can tell there's a passion that runs through the whole place and everyone working there wants to do their best, even first thing in the morning when their knocking out an amazing breakfast to start your next day of travelling. Don't expect a modern, updated hotel. But do expect a really good deal and a comfortable welcoming venue. Yes, it does need a fair bit of work but it's mainly cosmetic. I think a fair few venue replies to older reviews suggest they are planning on updating but tbh I didn't see anything to suggest that. Prices very competitive..... Especially a great discount for solo travellers. Most hotels give a paltry allowance for single occupancy. Here it was great. Clean rooms. Comfy bed. Great shower with quality complimentary products. Really helpful friendly service from staff. Car park great though it only fits about 7 cars max. I was given great advice on the phone when called in advance and was allowed to leave car at 830am.....then get easy no stop train to Edinburgh before checking in later. 👍 Train station 5 minutes maximum walk. Great location for all amenities in the town. 8 mins max to harbour. When considering the time of year, nice town, proximity to everything and the service..... And of course the price.... It's the best VFM of anywhere I've stayed. Would recommend and will stay again when next visiting East Lothian as it's about a 3rd of the cost of Gullane/North Berwick hotels.
