Finally my faith has been restored. And the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and to make sure that everyone was looked after. The hosts are so lovely and welcoming. The tea room is so quaint and English - Alice in Wonderland, William Morris and even a teapot shaped like a Welsh Dresser. Chef was delighted with it and has bought more subsequently. Things culminated in another call and they wanted beetroot which we were happy to supply as well as the usual courgettes with flowers. Imagine the surprise when they told my partner they were going to make her produce a feature in one of their menu items. A great surprise and it's given us another reason to go back and sample the excellent food. January 2023 My partner's birthday gave us another reason to visit. If anything the food is even better. The menus have experienced a seasonal makeover and consists of an a la carte section an 8 course tasting menu and an 8 course vegetarian tasting menu. We chose from the a la carte menu and it was, as I've already stated, excellent. My partner has some food preferences for health and religious reasons but everything is catered for and altered to ensure her wishes are respected.

When booking I was told that if the weather was fine, we would be seated outside, but should it be wet, we would have tables inside in the main restaurant. Pork cheeks in the scallop starter were dried out. Oysters were great, as were the scallops themselves. Lamb main was just a joke, about 2 inches of overcooked lamb rump, overcooked with literally 2 little salad potatoes for nearly £30. Unfortunately 2 of our party ordered it and we were still hungry afterwards so tried to order more food but they refused saying the kitchen had closed (at 9:20pm). They offered a 15% discount on the lamb mains at the end which was appreciated, but we just wanted a normal sized meal to be honest. Refusing to sell us some extra chips or even just a starter is kind of wild, especially if you're marketing and pricing yourself as up-market. Decent wine list, although again overpriced, which was a general theme here unfortunately. Shame, some elements were decent (yellowtail starter was great, FOH service was v. friendly) but we left feeling a bit ripped off and had to go get the rest of our meal on the way home, which is a first for me & kind of defeats the point of booking a nice restaurant.... Our overall experience made it v difficult to recommend this spot which is a shame as we had really been looking forward to it.

The pub itself is beautiful, full of character with a warm, stylish interior after the recent refurbishment, and the garden is stunning, especially in the evening with the festoon lighting. We had heard great things from friends and this was our first visit. All the cask beer was at its finest and a real celebration of local Kent breweries. Larkins was my personal favourite though I also enjoyed trying Tonbridge. The food was outstanding and everyone was talking about it.
