Had dinner with a friend, and the food was superb from start to finish. The mackerel pâté and the haddock were both outstanding, and the cheesecake was genuinely excellent. The food presentation is attractive, and we enjoyed the mushroom starter, but the goats cheese with pear and leek was not hugely flavourful. The fish and chips was tasty, but a little dry. The fish pie was lovely but a tad under-seasoned. The white chocolate parfait with cherry was very tasty but one of us found it sickly sweet. The sticky toffee pudding was more like a moist ginger cake - with no sticky toffee sauce! Service was lacklustre and frankly a little aloof. Empty glasses weren't collected and we didn't feel like the waiting staff checked in on us much. All in all, it's a pretty typical Suffolk pub-with-food, and the food is tasty and all home cooked. But its fine dining aspirations, sadly for us, didn't really deliver on expectations. We've been to many pubs in the area with tasty food and we found this one a little fussy and somewhat unfriendly.

Super delicious The downside was the person who served us. Seemed very disinterested and not exactly knowledgeable on allergies/food sensitivities. Picked up a slice of cake for my friend (gluten free, not dairy free), then used the same tongs to pick up my gluten AND dairy free items. I then said I can't have that now because it's contaminated, and needed a fresh item. He went and got a glove from the kitchen, which was appreciated. The counter is full of goodies and treats bakery items and cakes of all ranges fruit, chocolate and sponge. It’s a marvel. The welcoming warm staff super friendly and helpful. The consistency in quality is impressive — the fish is always fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavour. The batter is light, crisp, and importantly, not greasy. The chips are just as good — golden, fluffy inside, and again, not greasy, which makes all the difference. You can really tell care is taken with how everything is prepared. On top of the great food, the staff are always friendly and helpful, which adds to the overall experience. This is easily one of the best fish and chip shops I’ve ever been to. Considering how bad the food is now the person delivering our food had turned up. But she left please tell us why a delivery person would leave considering we ordered the food we had to wait another 25 minutes for our food to even arrive into our hands.
