I’ve had takeout from this place once before while visiting Indy but this was my first time eating there in person and I was not disappointed! This is the only place I like “sushi” from because they have vegan options that aren’t just plain tofu or cucumber. As someone who has never liked/eaten ANY seafood I was really excited to get to try something closer to real sushi. On top of that our server Kei was absolutely amazing. So knowledgeable of the menu and both the vegan and regular sushi. She made suggestions, showed us her faves and brought me a little birthday treat! I haven’t had a roll I didn’t like but I loved the vegan bbq eel tempura. She for sure made our lunch special. Sakura is definitely one of those undercover gems on Indy’s north side. I’ve driven by it a lot but never stopped in. I got to do so recently. Walked in at around 5:45 on a Friday and they were a little busy but we got a table. Our waitress was SUPER friendly and attentive to our table. We started with the Gyoza and the Spicy Ika Rings (calamari basically) as an appetizer. All of that was fantastic! As my entree, I got the Chicken Katsu Don. Now, I did notice a lot of reviews complaining of slow service. However, it only took about 25 minutes for all our food to arrive. And overall, the food was fantastic! The chicken was tender and tasty, the eggs were good, though I will say they did put a bit too much rice in the bowl for me to handle. We then got the Fried Ice Cream as dessert which was also very delicious. Overall, this was a great experience! If you’re looking for a popular Japanese spot in Indy, Sakura is definitely a winner! I’ll be back.

My chicken hibachi dinner was about $41 while at other restaurants a dinner portion of chicken hibachi is around $19, and I would have a full plate with enough to take home leftovers. The serving amount of vegetables was pitiful for $30-$60 dinner portions. AND the server did NOT ask our table about the ice cream and green tea that is supposed to be included with our meal, but gave us checks and boxes and expected us to leave until I had to ask about it. This was the last day of February. We felt like we stepped out of the cold and into someone’s house where they showered us with love, warmth, and delicious food, for the evening. The steak was the most tender steak we have had in Indy thus far. It melted in your mouth. It cut with a chopstick. The soup was so delicious and filled with tons of flavor. The ramen here is better then the local place we have JUST because the broth had the perfect ammount of salt. You can't go wrong with anything they have there! We ran a few errands and hunger kicked in, ramen sounded delightful and we had just crossed 82nd and Meridian when I looked up ”ramen” here on Yelp. The gyoza was a little flimsy, few were even torn. Definitely needed to crisp up a little more. I had spicy ramen, either I had to settle for the chicken and pork broth or just vegetable, again I don't eat pork so I had to go with vegetable, you also can only have pork or tofu in that spicy ramen you can remove the two and have no protein but you certainly can't add anything else to it. I received a big bowl of ramen which was good, not great. Truthfully a Top Ramen seasoning packet would have helped, or a little chicken bouillon cube. The spice level wasn't intimidating at all. There was plenty of noodles in there, the bowl was deep, I'm sure I took half home. My baby love ordered a chicken bowl, pretty sure the chicken in it was the same as chicken from the appetizer, with a little spicy drizzle. It came with corn, purple onion, green onions and nori over rice, with some type of a spicy sauce. Served cold, I think it's supposed to be that way though. Of course 3/4 of the bowl was filled with rice but my honey enjoyed it nonetheless. A nice quick hot date. Staff was helpful with my questions which is always lovely. No reason for me to rush back, today was nice tho.
