Kate and the staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived (past check-in time) to the moment we left. We, unfortunately, had no luggage as it was not put on our flight from Glasgow. Kate went out of her way to make us feel as comfortable as possible given the situation. We had to alter our original plans of hiking (due to lack of clothes/gear) and Kate spent a considerable amount of time giving us suggestions for an alternate plan. We took her recommendations and were able to enjoy many sights and delicious foods and a great ferry trip to our next destination. The breakfast at Wild Honey was Absolutely Divine!! Then the breakfast has to be booked for a specific time which was not convenient. The door to our room was not closing from the inside and there was loud noise every time someone in the property had a shower. The communal lounge had a bad smell. Also there was no kettle and tea/coffee in the room, which is not common for 4 start accommodation as well as for that price tag. Overall, the place looked empty and abandoned. But the biggest problem was the rudeness and the attitude of the receptionist/owner women.

Stopped on the way down from Aillwee Caves, and being honest, it was the first restaurant/bar we came across and had a big sign out saying that food was being served - so we stopped. The place was dead, like, very empty except one other table who left after us. Not sure what the other reviews mention about the service - the server, at least when we were there was really friendly. Service was quick, and efficient too however, this is really where it stops. The menu is quite limited, and the food was a little bland. It wasn't bad - but, I wouldn't say it was special. The turkey was very bland, dry (even drier than turkey usually is.) Kids chicken nuggets were obviously frozen, but generic frozen type. You could tell it went straight from a bag in the freezer to the fryer. The decor of the place is quite nice, traditional but you can tell its centred towards tourists, primarily those coming from America or visiting the Cliffs of Moher. We're sorry afterwards, because we seen other places serving food further down in the town. Unfortunately, we won't be back anytime soon.

Yet, none have matched the warmth and genuine hospitality of the Rathbaun Hotel. Yes, the hotel itself is a bit older, but that’s part of its charm. What truly impressed me was how immaculately maintained everything was. Whoever is in charge of maintenance deserves major credit — nothing was broken, rusted, or neglected. Even the bathroom’s silicone joints were spotless — a small detail, but it says a lot about the care put into the place. We've stayed in modern-looking hotels where, up close, everything was worn out or dirty. Not here. Everything was clean, solid, and clearly well loved. But what makes this place unforgettable is the staff. We arrived late, around 10 PM, and were met outside by an older gentleman who said they had been worried about us and were waiting. That kind gesture meant so much. While I parked the car, he took both of our 55lb suitcase up the stairs — it nearly broke my heart, but also warmed it. The woman working downstairs was equally lovely, with a great sense of humor and tons of local knowledge. She helped us plan some of the best parts of our trip. And I have to give a special shoutout to the bed sheets. No joke — these were the softest, most comfortable sheets we encountered on our entire trip, including at much pricier hotels. If you're after sleek aesthetics and trendy decor, this might not be your vibe. But if you value genuine hospitality, comfort, and a hotel that feels like it's run with love, the Rathbaun Hotel will leave a lasting impression. Highly recommended.
