The food is a little expensive, than say, The Outback or something, but those lack all personality and charm which this was full of. The steaks were all cooked to perfection and were so yummy. The seafood soup/chowder was delicious. We were given the largest potato I've ever seen that 3 of us shared and we barely made a dent! The bread pudding was warm and melted in your mouth. We chatted with the manager, Ike, who was so super nice! If you live in, or are ever passing through Terre Haute, stop by! It's literally an old horse stable and there are little rooms/stables all inside that give you some cozy privacy. They also had a piano and I think a cello player that gave it a nice atmosphere! The downsides for us were the French onion soup and the caesar salad which were fine, but not our favorite.

We wanted to try something different and we had heard about The Stables. Not sure what happened. The last two times I have been there both the food and service has been terrible. I have been ordering the orange go go rolls since 2005. I had to send them back last time because they tasted rotten. On this last trip I ordered the ahi nachos which has also always been great. But the chips were super stale and hard to eat. I had to go ask someone for a drink refill because the server never came back. We also asked for a booth. With 3 booths open they still told us no. No one sat in the booths the entire time we were there. They have set us in the booths before no problem. Place is starting to go downhill. I know it has new owners, not sure if that is the issue. Just be aware it is slowly turning into a place that you won’t want to dine in.

I used the drive-thru a bit longer wait time , but usually worth the wait time though, no straw in bag for my lemonade and their coffee is disgusting and cold, I had to warm it up when I got home. Those two things are pretty unacceptable for any fast food restaurant . I wish they had more flavor availabilities in their hot coffee as well and of course I wish it was hot or I would have got iced coffee. But really the straw thing was a terrible service issue. Next time I go I just won't get coffee there. Very disappointed

However, Food was a bit more sporadic. My side of rice & beans came out same time as my husbands burrito, then our daughters meal came out, then finally our sons. The main part of my meal (pictured) took a while to come out. I was almost done with my side & my son was already done with their plate by time my main came out. After seeing it (literally half a pineapple stuffed), it made sense why it took so long but a little communication would have helped. And/or some better planning so all the meals came out closer together & my main & side at the same time. Mine was good but holy wow the chorizo or ground whatever it in was pretty salty. The pineapple helped counter it but I couldn’t finish it. This was our first time back in a long while as we were just visiting. Was kind of disappointed to see the interior not as colorful as we remembered, but looked nice regardless. Restroom (womens at least) could definitely use some rehab as the sink won’t completely shut off and one stall door is pretty busted up. I guess we can’t complain too much as it was fairly cheap meal for the four us (plus margaritas) compared to many other places. Overall, decently quick service but could use better communication/coordination with kitchen and tone down the salt maybe. And invest some funds in restroom upgrades/repairs.

Food is usually good, but they let me down in my most recent order. The brisket was burnt, dry and crispy around the edges. The ribs were dry, chewy and super thin. I've never seen a rib that small. On a totally slammed Monday night they were out of RIBS! Very kindly made up a yummy platter of smoked chicken & pulled pork. Sides of simmered green beans and baked beans were more than adequate. Extremely quickly our server came up, Gene was very charming, and funny too, really gave out the family aspect that this place advertises. The drinks, I love the little mugs they're delivered in, unique! The food was amazing, and my friends theirs was too. I got a hamburger, and chicken since i'm a pretty picky eater. Overall still an amazing dinner. I'll definitely come back considering how nice the staff is, it really gave me a calming vibe compared to most restaurants where it feels like they're being forced by gunpoint to serve the food to the person!
