Went to celebrate Father’s Day 2025 at Laughing Sun for some BBQ and a beer. I’ve been looking for good BBQ in Bismarck, and Laughing Sun has been recommended to me quite a bit. Here there was a mistake, we ordered the mushrooms as a side but the restaurant also offers the mushrooms as a topping to the steak and that was what the gave us instead, a minor error but a bit annoying. The sides were all bland, with no sauces and light seasonings, which was disappointing. However, the most disappointing part of the meal was the flagship ribeye I mentioned before. It was just fine, not good and not great. For half the price you could get a better ribeye from any chain steakhouse. The dry age didn’t impart enough flavor to make up for the light seasoning in the cooking and the house butter we got with it brought the whole thing up to an okay experience. There was also an acrid, bitter flavor on the edges of the steak, not sure if that was from how they did the sear or the dry age, but it detracted from the already mediocre dish. I have celiac disease and am lactose intolerant, so finding pizza I can actually enjoy without getting sick is rare. This place absolutely blew me away! Literally put tears in my eyes. Our waitress was amazing. She brought my son toy trains to play with and even gave us recommendations on fun places to take him in the area. This may be one of those situations where it's "good for North Dakota." It is all you can eat but I was honestly full after the first plate, so I didn't feel like I got my money's worth with that. When he asked when the GM would be working, she stated that she "had no idea when she works next", was not helpful in finding out information for him, and made it a point to say that our orders didn't come with mushrooms so should not have been an issue. This is a thin crispy pizza like dish. Had an interesting cocktail with elderberry which was nice and refreshing. Atmosphere was good. Mostly high top tables. Full service bar. When asked about it the server left to find out they were out of pecans. The server was nice and polite but no alternative or discount was offered. This is not very good customer service. What made this one special was the staff. Being from out of town a restutant is just a place to eat...can't say the same thing about this one. My first encounter was early in the morning when there were not alot of people and from the greeting things were well.
