The tables with white tablecloths always makes a statement to me. I ordered the fish and chips. 4 nice size pieces of fish with a breading that was just perfect, slightly crispy and not very thick. The fries were hot and crispy on the outside and soft inside. Some of the best fish and chips I have had. My wife had the chicken salad and she said it was very good and very fresh. The bread was good and I over heard people at the next table talking about the bread. For dessert I got the pecan pie tart which was delicious. Over all a fabulous dinner and highly recommended.

We have enjoyed dining at The Owl Café for over 20 years. The menu is diverse and offers culinary dishes you won't find anywhere else. We recently discovered "Duck Fries". I decided to follow the advise of a fellow vegetarian who visited this place about a year ago: enhance the grilled cheese with onion (great idea), ask for a side of coleslaw and put some inside the sandwich, ask for bbq sauce to dip. Since then, they have added a salad bar that made our meal, with leafy greens, pickled okra and peppers, tomatoes, peas, chickpeas, pumpkin seeds, olives, broccoli, egg, cheese. The water had a funky taste. I ordered the Baltic Oysters and the Mahi (blackened) Fish Basket. Oysters were half decent considering it is a summer month. The mahi was well seasoned and tasted fresh so I would recommend! Fries were seasoned well; however, they weren’t hot, they were warm at best. Overall not a bad place to eat.

They make everything fresh and it was busy, and I was being impatient cause I wanted to be at the beach, but that's on me. And while good, the arepa itself was so flavorful that it took over the sandwich and I could barely taste the other ingredients. It just made me want a bag of arepas to take to the beach and snack on. Other than food and drinks, it's just a nice place in town to have a quiet little spot to relax, sit on the walkway, people watch, read etc... I really miss the bookstore that used to be in the same plaza, it was a match made for that area. There is another bookstore in town fyi, it's just a little further down the road. So come get your caffeine and some crawlers or anything else that they're making from scratch and have a relaxing day in town.

We enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited for the charcuterie board, pimento cheese croissant, and chicken salad croissant. At both restaurants, I ordered a medium combo and asked how many cheese fries came with the combo. I asked because I eat bk quite a bit and know what I'm supposed to get but I had thought noticed something at one of these restaurants before. At both I was told 4 and to upgrade to 8 would be the cost of the medium combo plus the cost of upgrading the cheese fries separately. On the menu, it states that medium combos include 8 piece and a medium drink for 1.30 more. At st John's i discovered the 4 and not 8 after i had paid, asked the manager who was at the window about it and let him know that every other burger king id ever been to gave 8 for the medium combo and he just kept saying they were doing it wrong and there was only supposed to be 4. I originally pulled out of the drivethru as to not mess up window times and pulled around to the front. the lobby was locked when I tried to go through the front to get the refund. No sign saying it was locked. This was at roughly 5:45 pm. The refund at the window was seamless. Apalachicola was open. I asked the manager who was running the front about the cheese fries. 4 not 8 for a medium. The combo price for just upgrading fries and reg drink came out to a dollar less than just the sandwich and 8 fries so I settled on the latter. The service rating is for both of the stores being misinformed about the products being offered and the fact that at this point, they have unfortunately, been screwing over their customers even if just because of poor training or a computer system that rings it in wrong. Please note that apalachicola should receive a 4+ star for service and st John's a 2. St John's was short and on the edge of rude while taking the order at the drive thru window and dismissive of even listening to a customers concern properly while apalachicola was quite friendly, informative and even knew other customers by name. Atmosphere, apalachicola could have used a lot run and should again get a 4+ but since I couldn't get into st John's, they get a 0 and unfortunately bring down the overall average for apalachicola. The cook at apalachicola put his foot in though. Nice work! Definitely going back to apalchicola and may try to gently point out the menu.

My husband had the Cuban and I had the brisket special. Both were absolutely fabulous! The meats were tender, the bread hearty and we could taste every ingredient. My husband tries a Cuban almost every place we go and he believes this to be the best! I had the broccoli salad side which was delicious. I'm used to there being too much mayo but the chef used just enough to moisten. He treated us to an appetizer of smoked salmon with a homemade boursin spread, salmon, arugula, orange zest and caviar. At first I thought he may have overdone the boursin, but then the smokey taste of the salmon and the tang of the orange came through. The most outstanding part of this chef's craft is his balance. It's perfect! The owners were so pleasant and helpful. I also appreciated the chef's input regarding the ingredients and his process. A most satisfying lunch and experience! BTW, this isn't Jason, it's Carol. Couldn't figure out how to get his name off of here. :)
