We left however disappointed. My husband got the Crispy Fish Sandwich and I the Aloah Bowl. We ordered the appetizer from the daily menu list, Full Belly Clams. We found it was very overpriced for what we got. My fork was not clean and I asked for a new one. I got a fresh napkin with silverware in there and that fork had again something very visible on it. I usually expect a plate of escargot with only 6 snails in their shell. This was different. This dish was an abundance of 24 snails completely shelled swimming in a delicious garlic, butter etc broth that really "blew my skirt up" fantastic. Delectable, not too pricey. I was very content with what was placed in front of me. Second course was lamb tacos cooked to perfection.Tender, juicy with a very unique flavor. Loved'em! Bistro Basque I couldn't think of a better place to take someone for an exceptional romantic dinner. One feels like your in another part of the world. Impeccable service. Everything was very good and you could tell it was all homemade. The meals were enormous and had a lot of variety of different cheeses too. The Nanny Grace's pasta was my favorite. I did add two pieces of carrot cake to the order when I got to the restaurant and they were delicious. The service from the wait staff was excellent and the atmosphere and overall cleanliness of the dining area appeared great. The renovations have really gone quite far in modernizing the location. My parents used to come here for well over a decade before the new ownership took over. I had grown accustomed to the plastic sheeted menus but it is fantastic to see new technology being embraced and used competently. The food is great as its always been. The bamboo shoots and tripe were generously seasoned with real flavorful chili oil unlike a lot of other chinese establishments in the area. The food is treated right and you get the full flavor palate that it deserves. The wonton soup broth was rich and not the usual one note salty water you find locally around here. The wonton skin thickness was excellent and reminds me of a homestyle wonton soup. The fried rice was not at all clumpy and flavor was very balanced. All too often in these parts you run into oily clumpy rice soaked in salt. Finally the cumin shortrib used actual cumin seeds. A lot of the local spots cheap out and just use cumin powder and frankly it just doesn’t taste the same. Aside from the now closed Great Wall in new haven (and no Chef Jiang is not the same) this is really the last truly authentic spot on the shoreline.
