One of the best cafe's I have been to. 100% worth a visit, and I will definitely be going again if I am in Gisborne. This is a very busy cafe but the staff found us somewhere to sit, then when a bigger table was available they offered us that space. The menu has amazing options, your classic breakfasts, but also some unique twists. The smoothies are so delicious. I had the berry smoothie, and it was sweet and refreshing. Portions are also great. You leave feeling like you have had a good feed for sure

We stopped by here for breakfast and were really impressed. The staff were really warm and welcoming. We’d clearly hit the peak hour as all tables were busy but the staff were able to accommodate us until a table became free.
The food was delicious and the portion sizes were huge! Lovely coffee too.

When I arrived, the young woman at the front desk was arguing loudly with someone out the back. Sounded more like a parent/child argument that continued loudly for some time and visibly affected the mood of the woman at foh. I ordered the rosemary lamb which arrived at the table with blobs of tomato sauce around the plate, the broccoli night was the only edible part of the meal. The Aragoto was not cooked properly. Hard in the middle like they were frozen. The lamb was very overcooked. Extremely chewy and difficult to cut. The bread pictured was supposed to be focaccia, however tasted like plain supermarket white bread. It was tough, not spongey at all and I couldn't get through one piece. I ordered a beetroot and avocado salad to take away, which only had toppings. Mostly feta and walnut, 2 sliced cherry tomatoes, a wee bit of cucumber that looked like it was bitten and 3 tiny pieces of avo on top which wouldn't have equated to even one thin slice if put together. I would never go back. The only thing that made it a positive experience was the male waiter, who was lovely. Do not recommend and now understand why there was only one other table of people when I was there.

Had a great experience here a few nights ago! The food was delicious with generous portions! My husband had the Seafood Chowder and said it was the most delicious one he's had! I had the Gnocchi which was also very tasty! We shared our dessert of the Berry Sorbet which was such a huge portion we could hardly finish it. The only minor negative was that my husband's cocktail took some time to get to the table but once he got it, the taste made up for the delay! We would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back next time we're staying in Gisborne.

Then given a nice outside table that hadn't been cleared as was all sticky and bird crap over it, had to ask twice for someone to give it a clear down which happened the second time poorly had bird crap still on the corners grrrrrr. Then made our drinks order One beer, glass of wine and no two apple cider,
Appetizers arrived and I ordered barley beef ... well six slices of beef nice 3/4 a bowl of barley and stuff all kale and tomatoes...everyone's appetizers was enjoyed. Still no apple ciders arrived so waved down a waitress and asked to find out didnt have any ....so ordered two beers .... onto main meal they just service the same size barley and beef that I had as a appetizer as main meal....all meals were served sporadic not together ...at least the main meal for me was nice but once again steak was cooked to perfectly but just chucked on top of a few carrots and parsnips and what tasted like a watery beef gravy . So yer not great and won't recommend it a place to pre book or go to sadly.🙁

No. 1 on our 51 day NZ tour. The location and vibe was what you should expect from your visit. Not pretentious, just great food, nice views and tucked into a wonderful setting. Guadalupe, our host/server from Uraguay(5 years now) was the most wonderful waitstaff I have ever encountered. Keep an eye out for the fishing boats being pulled up the ramp. One had a 35 and 28 kg Yellow Fin Tuna, which the blokes were more than proud to display.

Pretty cute place . We found this place after driving around the town where most food outlets were closed. Quite out of the main street as this was further into the surburb. We had a good choice of thin, crusted pizza, chicken and charizo but we had to wait a very long time to have it. It was a very busy afternoon with the family crowd filling in the compound. Based on my previous google reviews, folks would take it that I am not at all a difficult, unreasonable customer. After bragging about having the best pizzaria around the corner from my house, I decided I'd bring my guests to this establishment instead of getting Pizza Hut. What an embarrassment!
We ordered 1x pepperoni and 1x prawn pizza. Advised wait time was 20min so grabbed a drink to have while we wait. 40minutes later I went back to ask what's up with the "Nathan order" which is the order we put in, and got told "sorry mate, we're very busy". FORTY MINUTES LATER, our order went into the oven. Baffled is an absolute understatement.

As usual, the food was incredible. I had way too many porn star martinis because they were so good. My only issue was the main being brought out while I was still eating my entree. The girl who served us was so lovely, polite & friendly, she made our dining experience extra special. We ordered a cheesy bacon cobb loaf to start and that was really nice. I have eaten here plenty of times before today (though only twice in recent months). I used find it quite good. The previous time wasn't too bad (apart from the lack of service), but today was pretty awful.
Pros: the chips
Cons: everything else.
I hate doing negative reviews, but I was pretty disappointed in both the food and the service, and honest critiques can help the manager improve his/her business.
I ordered sirloin steak, medium-rare. It came out lukewarm, though it was advertised as coming out sizzling on a cast-iron platter. The steak was the most unevenly cut steak I've ever seen. It was about 5cm at one end and 1cm at the other. Honestly, how do you think you are going to cook a steak like that evenly. The thin edge was dry and over-cooked. The fat end was pretty much raw. I ate maybe a third of the steak. The onion rings were overcooked. They looked much darker than the images I see in other Google reviews. The batter was quite hard due to the over cooked batter.
The service is terrible (Sunday lunch). The girls, though perfectly pleasant when speaking with them, stand behind the bar and chatter away to each other. Not once did they look over to see if any of the customers needed anything. When I told the young lady at the bar about my steak, she gave a pretty standard, "Oh, sorry about your steak", and offered a discount, which wasn't much. Still cost us $83 for two meals and two drinks (beer and coke). She kept saying, "Perfect!" in a very cheerful, upbeat tone. She'd add it up: "Perfect!" I'd swipe my card: "Perfect!" I felt like saying, "Yeah, not really." lol. Yeah, I probably won't eat there again. Oh, the table we sat at is wobbly. It was rocking back and forth every time we applied pressure to our plates to cut our food.
Husband praised the salad, criticised the cold plate (which makes any hot food get cold quickly), and said the fish was quite nice.
Wait time was reasonable. Pub was not busy when we were there.

On the surface, the place looks and feels utterly Italian, even down to the CD playing! The front of house guy is as Italian as they come and super cool! The food was authentic enough - but my salad did need some salt & pepper on the tomato (there was none on the table). I didn't have a pasta meal as I was too full from lunch that day - so I had the prawn cocktail, antipasto, caprese salad, and pannacotta. All the ingredients were fresh, plentiful & beautifully presented. I enjoyed all four dishes and would have them again. We visited this restaurant in Gisborne for the first time in a while, hoping for a nice meal. The food was okay, but unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by poor service. We planned to use a 2-voucher deal and asked the waitress to split the bill, which she agreed to. However, when we went to pay, the cashier only applied one voucher, claiming no one told him about the split. He was rude and unhelpful when we raised the issue.

We turned up for dinner without a booking a couple of days before Christmas, and after a short wait we were lucky enough to be seated. The service by all who dealt with us was on point, exceptional! We often go to other towns and always try the Thai restaurants but we have not found another one that is as outstanding as Thai Sunshine. Their food is delicious and they go the extra mile. I stumbled upon this place as I saw a few men waking in this dimly lit building in the dark. Needless to say in Gisborne I needed to venture in as it may prove an adventure, and an adventure it was! I went to bar looking for foods but I saw a sign showing a film screening! Apparently this was the Dome cinema which I have vaguely heard from a guidebook. Asked for a ticket the guy said it was fully booked. Recommend me staying chilling in case somebody cancelled. Reluctantly but adventurously I did somehow. The friendly guy spoke greatly of how he went to 🇻🇳 last month which was my hometown! Got a beer recommendation from him, God the kiwis beers, even from a can, is good. Waited there for half an hour until a lady came saying somebody cancelled and could fill me in. Ticket was $15. The cinema was in a dome building which is very aesthetic. The cushions were comfier than I thought, since normally I sit when going to cinemas. Another crazy thing: you can order a pizza which will be served during break, which is mad; which I did. Pizza is $24: not on a cheap side but good. This level of comfy is just on kiwi level but it feels so cozy and non pretentious. Overall it felt like a family outdoor cinema because the vibe was so good and space is so aesthetic compared to normal stuffy cinemas settings. The movie was “The Way, My Way” which was a good one for such an eccentric place in a lazing winter day. I strongly recommend that film 👍, so legit for any adventurous souls out there. Needless to say such an adventure ended up my night so fully. I think the place really speaks for the true spirit of Gisborne, during the first sight it looks a bit dull but when you dig deeper there was a whole world down under, which is crazy. Some pictures here show how crazy it is to believe this is Gisborne. I could not wait to come back for more authentic experiences.

Heaps of original variety, with classics like Katsu curry, (which was a really nice home.made curry with lots of carrot, potato, pickles, ginger), Takoyaki (with decent size octopus), Nikuman (like a bao bun with meat filling). Massive Onigiri's...
Serving size for Katsu curry and rice was deceivingly large, and I don't mind that we were deceived.
Looks like they have a very streamlined system for staff too...
The people came in numbers while we're there which shows it's a popular place for Gizzy.
So happy we randomly found this place.

Had other customer/s who was sitting opposite us who said was members of the cosi club tell my sisters child (she's 6 & has autism) to stop running around and making noises well.. Ate alone in there at Level 2 the other night. Lovely, we'll set out place. I had their naan, which was most excellent and soft. The plate comes with rice and salad, which had dried carrot which gave it a great splash of colour. The allapeppi fish I had was yummo!!! The sauce/ soup was delish. Much needed Indian option in Gisborne. I crave South Indian Kerala cuisine quite often and Fiancé is my go to option. Porotta(Kerala naan) is a soft layered flaky roti that’s very tasty just on its own. Combined with coconut based curries they’re an absolute delight to eat. Chicken biriyani is also one of my personal favourites. Heaps of vegetarian & vegan options and they also do vegetarian thali for lunch (assortment of myriad curries and rice) and unlimited buffet on the weekends. So far all of my friends I’ve taken to over there have loved the food.

So many different flavours and spices in each dish = Great variety of flavours. $17.99 for buffet breakfast which included hot chai tea and freshly cooked dosa (crepe) and a fried Indian savoury bagel shaped accompaniment. The breakfast was entirely vegetarian and all gluten free bar one fried bread type option. My mum who is coeliacs cried as she never gets that much choice at restaurants. The main menu was almost all gluten free also. Meat, seafood and vegetarian options. Lots of dairy free options. The staff were lovely and attentive and provided great, friendly service, and showed my mum which meals were gluten free. We will be returning to try the dinner…..Lamb shank curry and baked fish looks awesome !! I’ll be back for that and a bunch of other items on the menu which look yummm. So good to have an authentic and tasty dining option in Gizzy ! Well done guys !

Food was ok, a little expensive for what you got. We ordered the eggs benny for my partner and the eggs were hard and tiny amount of hollandaise that was runny. Described as zesty but was quite bland. Was a little disappointing. The potato cakes were amazing though! Definitely a must if you eat here. Waited 35 minutes for our food. First to come was the sirloin steak that I ordered as a medium rare, come to find that my steak was well over done and a bit burnt. I spent more time chewing my steak than enjoying it sadly. Good meals, decent prices although some are a wee bit pricey. Steak wasn't cooked on a hot enough grill, so was grey not browned and lacked depth of flavour. Chicken Diane gravy was extremely salty. When I got to store and went to pay I noted the total shown on the eftpos terminal was a couple dollars more. When I questioned it I got told "prices have gone up and we charge for a bag". I pointed to the menu, stuck to the counter, showing what I ordered and how much it added to. The person tried to say "those prices are wrong". I said keep your bag and charge me correctly. After a huff he adjusted the price.
To top off, it was hands down the worst Indian in Gizzy. Go anywhere else.

I see a lot of "Friendly Service" reviews. This contrasts my experience quite strongly! I went in early one evening, 5.30ish, to dine in on my own, wasn't greeted with a smile and barely a polite "welcome". The constant impression was that I wasn't wanted. Service was rushed, and when I asked for a "whiskey" the owner(?)/waiter couldn't understand, so I repeated it 3 times; he asked how I would like it, I said "straight", this seemed a shock, and then it was delivered in a cordial drinking glass - not a tumbler in sight. Disappointing.
The entrée came quickly, so I had not much time to settle and relax into my whiskey from the cordial glass, or a spot of writing; and within a minute, before I was a quarter of the way through my entrée, the main course arrived. I wasn't particularly happy about this, as I didn't get the chance to finish the entrée and reflect on it as its own meal without my curry going cold, but the host didn't seem to care. He did smile though after placing the meal, and he also smiled after I paid the bill, so there's that I guess.
The meals weren't the best Indian I've tasted, neither the worse - probably better than Tandoori down the opposite end of Gladstone Road who put way too much spice into a medium curry which ends up burning your mouth out and leaving you unable to taste the meal. Friends medium spice has a strong bite, but the curry flavours can still be tasted. Good meals!
I've been here twice over about 2-3 years, and this experience has been the same. It's very odd that other visitors get the "friend" treatment, and I just "another customer" treatment. Not at any time during my most recent visitor did I see a smile from any of the other staff - it just looked like no one was enjoying themselves, and I mean no disrespect if everyone was having a bad day, but friendly customer service is vital. I want to be greeted and welcomed, not necessarily with a smile, just with a feeling of wanting to be served, whether I'm alone or with company.

These guys cater and I got Abdallah to cater a Palestinian feast! We'd never tried Palestinian food and it was incredible, we are talking lamb shanks with tender meat falling off the both, fragrant rice, breads, chicken and my most favorite a 'dawali' curry (stuffed grape leaves) for our vege mates was the most smooth, slightly tangy yet sweet flavor I've never had before. Then to top it all off what he was trying to charge made me feel guilty so I paid him more! Highly recommend!!

Fusion is an absolute gem in Gisborne, they’re a small business that creates some amazing tasting, healthy, feel good food. I’ve been a regular for years, and not once have I been disappointed. Alongside making great food they also offer boba tea which I find refreshing on a hot day. The dishes I’d recommend you try are the Vietnamese spring rolls and the crispy chicken noodle soup. I would say prices are more on the expensive side, yet worthwhile. The service is nice and fast, they now also have an ordering screen in the shop too. 5 star.

Getting food from Fusion was a clean and streamlined experience. The inside of the store was very tidy and tastefully decorated. It only took 5-10 minutes for me to receive piping hot food for 4 adults.
I tend towards their meal bowls, opting for crispy pork or crispy chicken depending on my mood. Regardless, the portions are great for the price, delicious and relatively healthful.
I typically get my food to go, but it's also really nice inside so I can certainly recommend eating in as well.
