The food was really excellent, we went for couple of specials and the baked whole Baby Snapper was absolutely delicious. Spicy fish tacos were pretty good as well. Very nice setting with gorgeous views of ocean. Staff was attentive with all the tables filled out. Coffee was excellent but desert (semifroddo) was a miss as it was completely frozen to the point where you could not stick a knife in it. You had to wait for it to thaw. Overall, a well run place with some excellent dishes, I would go back. There is really no alternative in South West Rocks for a quality meal.

We had visited the Gaol, which opens at 9, hoping to have a nice brunch here afterwards. Unfortunately, after waiting for a while to be seated, we were told that it's only Morning tea menu after 10.30am. There were only a few items on the morning tea menu (muffins, scones etc) and I had to go and seek out someone to take our order (they do have table service). We opted for Scones and they were delicious. It would be nice if service hours were reviewed to benefit visitors to the area especially during peak times.

We ordered satay chicken for an entree, which was four small pieces of chicken tenderloin in a thin, orange sauce that bore no resemblance to satay and had no peanuts in it whatsoever. The Choo Chee Prawns was edible, however there was just 8 small prawns and the dish was not in the “thick curry sauce” as described in the menu. The “mixed vegetables” amounted to barely 1 mushroom thinly sliced, a few bits of carrot and tinned baby corn; definitely not worth the $22 we paid for it. Then perhaps the worst Thai dish we’ve ever had; their Chilli Garlic and Basil - we got the chicken. The aroma of the dish was an off putting chemical smell, with the sauce clearly having come from a jar. There was no fresh Thai basil; in fact there was no freshness to the dish at all. The minced Thai basil in the sauce made the whole dish taste fermented and bitter. It ruined the dish.

The sauce was salty and just tasted like soy sauce and fish oil and there was hardly any chicken in our chicken dish. Couldn’t be bothered complaining as it too a long time to get our average meal. The kids high chair is the worst one we have ever had to use at a restaurant. The let down was the showers, probably the worst I have experienced at a park for a while and the Water park and pool was closed during our stay. The opening was delayed because of poor weather which is completely understandable, however it would have been nice to have been told it was closed when we booked. Also its a very expensive park when you consider that it's main attraction was closed. It was not a disappointment though the food could use a little bit of work. We had their big breakfast and it was perfect for my wife and I. My favourite part was the bacon and poached eggs but the sausage and amazing sourdough were good too. Still, it was better than paying six dollars for two minuscule slices of chorizo. While I can appreciate parking could be troublesome, the stars aligned for us and we found one quickly. The service was mostly good (putting 2 tables together no fuss), albeit a little lacking initially when multiple staff walked by doing their tasks and did not acknowledge us. After that though and the order placed, the food came pretty quickly and everything was correct. I loved my Twisted Avocado dish and the Eggs Benedict was also really enjoyed. The big brekkie had by our 2 other attendees were a hit and a miss for various reasons (one mentioning that it was a little greasy for their liking and the other saying they enjoyed it). One other minor inconvenience was dripping from the roof onto the tables, while not a fault of the venue, could be rectified perhaps with an umbrella above the table. Again this was probably due to the rain in the early morning/overnight. The coffee was great and babycino also a hit. The location is great, super close to the beach for a walk afterwards.

The hotel itself has been newly renovated and we had a very clean and spacious queen room. Couldn't fault the rooms at all. The location is good but just be aware it is located above a pub so there is a possibility of noise and nuisance though we couldn't hear much from our room. They unfortunately lose a star for terrible communication over email/booking. We were after a room fairly last minute (on the day) and were responded to initially to say one was available. Despite multiple chasers and emails to book in and pay there was no response from reception. When we arrived the room we had been trying to book and get a response on all day was indeed available so it seems a shame that due to poor communication/receptionist not being bothered to reply they would have missed out on a booking and some revenue. Definitely expect better customer relations and communication from a hotel charging over $150 a night. The location is great and close to the main restaurants - lovely cafe next door for coffees and easy access to the beach.

The view from the absolute beach front balcony is simply stunning. The staff are all friendly, happy, efficient, and helpful. The food is sensational. The cook on the creamy mussels was the best I've ever experienced and they were so plump and juicy, bathing in the creamiest white wine garlic sauce that was delicious. The oysters, so fresh. The salt and pepper soft shelled crab was a little lonely on its own on the plate. Another would have made it better value but was tasty. They were right! The food was flavourful, the team there was incredible: helpful, attentive and cheerful. The young lady at the register also brought our coffees and was personable, lovely and chatty. We had their Big Breakfast and it was the perfect size to share. Yesterday, we had a similar meal ‘up the street’ and I paid $6 extra for some chorizo. This meal was perfectly cooked, much better value, hot and oh so full of flavour. I loved the touch of putting the meal in an iron frypan. To cap off the great food, the view over the beach was nice as well. Thanks for the hospitality, service and incredible meal!
