Our server was friendly and helpful and the venue is beautiful, very “steakhouse’ish” in décor and all the service there was great. The setting is in a beautiful, old mansion with plenty of parking to the side of it. They have beautiful garden areas to sit outside and plenty of indoor seating as well. Service was very nice and personable. The menu is rather basic though. The appetizer list was decent, salad list was too simple, pasta list was awesome – it was the best topic on the menu, but the entrée (secondi) list was way too simple, offering just one of each protein. We shared their rigatoni, which was excellent! I don’t think I’ve ever had peas in a red sauce and this was great! The sausage had an odd texture to it, but the flavors seemed decent. The portion was perfect for splitting too! Next up was their chicken dish, which was stuffed with prosciutto and cheese and wrapped in dough. It was ok, but lacked flavor, especially in regards to the chicken itself. Their wine list is decent, they offer a local, Balletto wine for a really good price. All five of us had a different entree and everyone raved about their individual meal. This might be the first restaurant I write a review in Sonoma since there’s much potential with poor execution. Ordered (party of 2): 1. I had the Eagle Eye Cherry mocktail, I highly recommend it for its tart, unique-fresh taste. I also had the lamb stuffed flat-bread with greek salad. We arrived with a few minutes left of happy hour so we got some wine and an order of the wings+fries. They were both delicious! The wings were big and meaty with a great dry rub. We had a great conversation and she made our experience really enjoyable; we stayed longer than we planned because we were enjoying the conversation. The ambiance was lively and celebratory, and our server (with a beautiful singing voice in the Happy Birthday renditions) was a top-notch pro. However, one of the dishes, which we ordered x2, was a complete miss; the osso bucco was not properly tender nor enjoyably meaty, and the risotto was soupy and it's saffron flavor was chemical and imbalanced, overpowering. We were very pleased with the service, however the beef wellington wasn't cooked medium rare it was very very rare and very small, expensive, and according to my 15 year old daughter and I quote "the beef tasted cheap, instead of prosciutto it was ham, I did not see mushrooms, it did not taste right at all. The pastry puff outside felt doughy." Vegetables were tasty but the bread was very hard. All in all we had mixed feelings on the whole experience. Dessert was fantastic we had the creme brulee. We will return sometime soon but we will order something different. Thank you 😊

We had no problem finding a spot within 2 minutes of walking away from the restaurant. Our first impression was the red bricks exteriors of the building. And the outdoor seating area nestled in an alley between the 2 buildings, looking out to the street. One step inside and you’ll enter a quaint and warm place. The interior decoration reminded me of an older era. We made a reservation online beforehand and highly recommend you doing so. The restaurant was packed for a Saturday night at 6pm. The reception staff quickly greeted us, complimented my puppy and took us to our outdoor table. Wow! I couldn’t help but exclaimed! The outside area was beautifully decorated with stars and light strings. Our table was neatly set with a white table cloth on top and leaning against the red wall. He also gave Butter some treats and was so kind in general. He saw me wearing my Alma matter school Johns Hopkins sweater and sincerely congratulated me on my graduation :) We ordered the escargot and crab cake for appetizers. For main entrees, we opted for veal in mustard sauces and lamb rack (medium cook). The escargot was a BOMB of flavors and exquisiteness! We had to use a tool to maneuver the escargot out of its shelf but it was so worth it. The garlic butter sauce on the escargot enhanced its flavor and a great dipping sauce for the bread too 🤤 We were not that impressed with the crab cake as I had better crab cakes in Baltimore where my school was. But La Gare’s crab cakes were not bad at all imo. Now, to main entrees. We had salads and soups complementary with every entree. My dish was lamb rack and my sister got her veal in mustard sauces. Both were tender, juicy, well cooked and a master piece of its own kind! I’m very picky and usually order lamb whenever I’ve been to a new restaurant. It’s the standard I judge the restaurant on and La Gare met it! I really love the fact that La Gare’s dishes have just the right and elegant amount of flavors! We tried several options and were impressed with almost everything. The Pani Puri was innovative and fun. The crispy cauliflower was yummy. The grilled corn was fresh and tasty. Chashu:9/10 Rest of the toppings: 4/10 Service: nonexistent. Waited five minutes just to find a waiter so that I can pay. Do they actually expect a tip? I received my noodles over the counter from the friendly kitchen staff. I left a small tip but this further deteriorated the value factor. While there was certainly room for improvement, this was good ramen for the US and probably the best I’ve had so far. 30 dollars for a bowl of noodles plus a tip is crazy though. For 20 I’d come on the regular but the value is sadly not there to warrant more than a couple of visits a year. Thanks for the delicious bowl and hope you guys take this constructively.
