Absolutely delighted to finally dine here. Friday afternoon in September, there were still some tables available inside, plenty outside. Lovely atmosphere and ambience inside. Great selection of specials on the boards. Very good bloody mary, terrine of the day was excellent, delicious bread and huge portion. Followed by an outstanding sea bream dish for my main. We were a party of 5. We all had starters, mains and most had puddings. All dishes bar one main course were absolutely first class. The one which was slightly disappointing was a sausage baguette, it had same chutney as starter, felt quite basic, sausages and bread under whelming. However all the other dishes really were great. Proper quality. Excellent and friendly service. Thoroughly recommend and would love to go back.

The staff were really welcoming. They were clear that the the kitchen was short staffed at that lunch time, so we may have a wait, which we were happy with. Within 20 minutes someone came over and took our order, and our food arrived shortly after - I was really impressed how quickly this was and that we were remembered! The mackerel starter was outstanding and stood up to ones I've had in fine dining restaurants. The burger was classic, and well made - it was simple and excited perfectly. My partner had the truffle mac and cheese... obviously I tried some. I'm not a mac and cheese person, but that was amazing and I would eat it all. Local beers delicious too, and everything a fair price.

I was very disappointed in my starter, smoked mackerel and salad, and was quite expensive for a lot of salad with a couple of flakes of mackerel, I expected a nice piece of fish for the price. It’s in an excellent position for serving visitors to the nearby abbey, and is ♿️ accessible from the street all on one level. To begin with we entered the restaurant and could hardly breathe for the thick smoke in the entrance penetrating our eyes. The prices are clearly ridiculous, where on earth charges £10.20 for 2x flat Colas (one being diet). How they can have no shame for charging £5.10 for flat cola, we’re talking PINT OF LAGER prices!!! As I travel for work you’d bet I’ve tried many different Indians, and I’ve never had a dansak so hot and spicy, completely ruined it, I couldn’t even notice an ounce of sweetness in the dish. To conclude the meal they somehow had the audacity to slap on 10% service charge, which was laughable considering they didn’t even ask how the food was. Give this place a miss until they sort out their ridiculous prices and stop extorting customers, learn how to not charge you for something you haven’t had, and stop making the curries ridiculously spicy.

The food! I was parked up in Hexham and went for a walk, the scents from their kitchen drew me in. Not only were they willing to accommodate a walk-in for one person towards the end of their shift, the service and the food was out of this world. Very friendly and helpful staff, the menu was not something you'll find anywhere else, and the food... I recommend trying their tapas dishes. The flavours were incredible, not what I expected at all. The Indian/Mexican collaboration wasn't something I've come across before but it works very well. Glad we booked as the restaurant was full that night and had a great atmosphere and vibe. The service was wonderful from the very beginning, with our server letting us move to a window table when we asked and being attentive and friendly throughout our stay. The mango Lassi was wow. Other dishes were good too. We ordered a lot of food and everything was great. They did mess up a little but biggest mistake they did was in lamb biryani there was chicken pieces too. So be careful and strictly give instructions if you have some allergies. It was a sixteen course tasting menu consisting largely of a series of really attractive and delicious snacks, several no more than a few mouthfuls. The pumpkin patch was huge with so many colourful pumpkins to choose from and great photo opportunities for some added fun. Something to enjoy for all ages for sure. All the staff we saw were friendly, and gave our dogs lots of cuddles making them feel very welcome too :) the event was very well ran and didn't feel over crowded- plenty of room to wander around at your own pace and the dogs had plenty of space to enjoy their wander too! From the moment we arrived, owners David and Sam were so welcoming – even though it was our first time meeting them, it felt like we’d known them for years. From the very first time I spoke to Sam, everything was just perfect. The menus were sent, we pre ordered, on the day I dropped in decorations and a cake, a lovely little table set up for the kids and all the decorations up ready for our arrival. What a fabulous little gem this is, the hosts are warm and welcoming, and the pub was bustling with lively entertainment. A continental style breakfast is available for guests the next morning and you just help yourselves to whatever you want. The pub itself has a lovely, traditional feel—cosy lighting, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly staff. The 3 rooms, located outside the pub are great and very spacious. There is lots of quality storage, a fridge, tea and coffee, tv and a large bathroom. Wall heaters keep the room lovely and warm. The pub no longer serve cooked breakfasts but offers continental in the room. We opted to eat out in Hexham which is a short drive away. There are lots of good cafes. Get a disc from shops or on the street and you can park very cheaply when displayed. We ate in the pub one night which was excellent and at Buongiorno, a lovely Italian, tucked away on a side street. You need to book here as it is only small. A great 2 night stay and lovely and festive with the town's decoration lit while we were there.

We rang ahead of time to ensure our allergies could be catered for and they had a children's menu too. We were served promptly and staff could not have done more for us. However this is the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in my life. Menu is not well described. There’s “mixed bruschetta” on menu and when asked the waiter, got the answer of “ham and bit of everything; 2-3 portions; don’t really know what’s in it”. Later on got the dish, four portions including ham, vege, traditional and seafood, and the seafood one has raw salmon on it. No allergy information was asked when ordering, and didn’t mention anything about raw seafood. The Castle and grounds are beautiful. Our Castle view suite was spacious with a very comfortable bed, a great en-suite and nice and clean. The food was imaginative, flavoursome and well presented and a nice drinks, wine and cocktails list added to the dining experience. The staff without exception were friendly, professional and a pleasure to meet. On Thursday evening some were put to the test but came through with flying colours. A problem in the kitchen lead to a slow service. We took the view we had no other pressing engagement to get to, we were sat in a warm pleasant environment and had a nice glass of wine to sip on. The breakfast was okay but at tines looked as if it had been cooked aquite a whole ago. Eveningmeals were okay but nothing to write home about. The bar area where the pool table sits looks untidy. The place could do with proper cleaning staff who knows what they are doing and the two running the place are obviously trying their best but without proper investment this hotel will not succeed.

All of us agreed that our meals were absolutely delicious and of outstanding quality. I had the steak and ale pie which was amazing! I can honestly say it was the best I have ever had. Tonight was the first time I had food and it was a truly pleasurable meal. The food was fantastic, I tried a few of the starters and had a Steak. We did have a few issues as one night the power had gone off and didn’t come back on until the afternoon of the next day but that can’t be helped and isn’t at fault of the place itself. The staff were lovely and by the end of our trip as we were just about to leave our car battery died and a male member of staff (assuming the owner) was kind enough to help us get it running to get on the road. Two of the nights we got food from the restaurant and it was very nice and the portions were perfect. The toilet/shower facilities were clean and the cleaning staff were lovely also, special mention to the younger serving ladies as they were very kind and helpful. It was mine and my friend’s first trip without parental supervision since we both turned 18😂 and we were worried about safety and feeling comfortable but this place made us feel at ease. Overall a very relaxing trip and would definitely recommend. However, this didn’t bother us, but you may find it a bit difficult if you’re a light sleeper as there’s plenty sheep and duck friends who love to make their presence heard 😂

There are 2 showers for the whole campsite 1 which was broken and the other the door was broken and the water was coming out like a dripping tap. My family were non residents and live a few miles away, enjoying a late lunch at 2.30pm. It is my second visit since the hotel is under new ownership & management. Firstly what a difference & ambience. Tastefully decorated, both wood burners were lit on a cool Autumnal day, which was welcoming and nice to see. The new larger open bar is a great addition & the bar, restaurant and reception areas were clean and tidy too. Really like the Twice Brewed items for sale and local produce on offer to purchase as momentos of your visit or as a gift, local ales, rum, vodka,honey, jewellery and doggy treats from Woofchester, fabulous! Our server Pieter, was polite, friendly and attentive. Our food was good, we chose the George burger & bubble & squeek with poached eggs. It looked excellent and tasted very good too! We had dessert of fruit crumble and ice cream and sticky date pudfing with custard, which were lovely too. The view of the gardens and river were great and it was nice to see a gardener looking after the beds and tending the outside area. I have to say having parked in the George car park a few years ago it was brilliant to see the delapadated garages removed, the outstanding ones looking repaired and painted and the dreadful blinds at the upstairs windows and look of the house in the grounds to the left of the car park as you drive in, being renovated and cared for including a new driveway, stained fencing and new flower beds in the making! There are parts of the hotel that still need attention,(like the ladies toilets) but bear in mind it takes time and investment at good cost to replace,repair and update facilities, within these old, beautiful Northumbrian buildings and that means they need visitors and customers to use them to create revenue! Treat yourself to that coffee and cake once a week, maybe a monthly lunch with a friend. These places need to remain open for so many reasons! This hotel is in a beautiful location with a stunning view of the river and a pretty stone bridge. The barman/waiter was attentive with a warm, professional manner. The big windows in the restaurant/bar area gives a lot of light and ensures that all tables can enjoy the view. The decor is modern and looks like it’s been done recently, however there is a persistent smell of dog throughout the entire place which I found quite off-putting. The tables were grubby and the edging was loose on one of the sets where we were sitting. The food was also mixed, the cod and chips that my friend had were lovely and fresh and generous portion. The winter salad I had had brown lettuce with slimy tomato and cucumber that looked like it had been chopped and left in the fridge for a couple of days. The whipped goats cheese was lovely and light with a great tang, the beetroot has just been picked from a pack, rather than freshly roasted or prepped and was tasteless and bland. My whole dish lacked flavour, was prepared poorly and just disappointing.

White Wine came out warm. On noting to waiter told it is all kept in fridge so should be cold. Multiple drinks bought out which were not what were asked for or when they got it right were bought out twice. When it all came to an end I was kind of disappointed as wanted to see what could be messed up next! If it was managed as a novelty comedy restaurant it’d great (with average to decent food when heated up!) as a venue however which tries to position itself as premium (per pricing) then awful! I enjoyed a Pensioner’s meal consisting of a small fish (cod), chips, bread and butter, mushy peas and a pot of tea. The ‘pensioner’s’ portion was more than enough. Chips were frozen and hard. Honest the most disappointing Indian food we've ever had. And we eat a lot. No. 19 came up as a search result and the photos looked good so we set the sat nav and headed over not really knowing what to expect but needing a cooked breakfast! We had a latte and an americano and both were tasty. Service was friendly and attentive. Having found No.19 almost by chance we are keen to visit again and try their lunch and evening offerings. A nice spot to enjoy a good meal in a pleasant relaxed environment.

The restaurant is in the centre of Hexham next to the market place. Beautifully decorated with a relaxed chilled out vibe, the Muro Lounge has sofa seating as well as restaurant tables and we chose the cozy option; which fitted in with the relaxed atmosphere and casual dining style. I also dislike dogs being allowed in- I understand their stance of allowing "well behaved dogs" but on our visit the dog at the next table went mad whenever another dog came in. Had a chicken dhansak last night that was so spicy it was breathtaking yet the sweet pineapple brought relief with every bite! Honestly the best dhansak I’ve ever had. Husband’s Madras was equally authentic and delicious. The only curry place around that doesn’t skimp on full flavour. Great quality rice and breads etc too. Brilliant!
