Food was decent, I wouldn’t say its mind blowing but it was good however on reflection I can’t honestly say it was good value for money. £20pp for seafood risotto and £10 each for 3 scoops of ice cream/sorbet is IMHO over priced by 20-30%. £100 for the 2 of us with no alcohol on the bill was frankly a bit of a shock. FYI I expected a scoop of sorbet but you do get 3 scoops the same portion size as the ice cream which was just too much so be aware of that.

There were broken pieces of dried pasta, it was over cooked, the ‘focaccia’ was some kind of frozen bread warmed up and burnt round the edges, it was disgusting. If this is what people think Italian food should be then it’s very worrying, or they have only ever eaten dry pasta from a super market with supermarket own brand sauce. Ordered drinks but the table water never arrived. There is nothing ‘genuinely Italian’ about this place. Also, you’re meant to use basil leaves not basil stems. The bruschetta was also just burnt toast. We ate and left promptly. I say all this as someone who has an Italian partner and has traveled the length of Italy and around Sicily eating delicious Italian food. .

The food is that good. Vindaloo and garlic chicken was epic and the Nan bread was fluffier than a cloud. Presumably our food would have arrived cold, so eventually after a politely worded conversation we had requested a refund because of how truly AWFUL the service and delivery was. I do not recommend them AT ALL!

Even before we arrived the telephone contact was first rate - relaxed and friendly, which carried through to the first greeting as we walked through the door on a very busy day in the pub. It felt like being welcomed by old friends. This is my perfect pub. Plainly loved by the locals, real fire, lots of seating areas, good food and fabulous service from every single member of staff. I won’t single out any one person because it wouldn’t be fair, but shout out to the adorable Black Labrador Pepe, the “house dog”, who melts the hearts of all who meet him. We ate dinner here both nights and the menu was varied and good, with a special mention for the Cornish fish soup; delicious! Portions are generous, and the cooked breakfast was amazing. My room was comfortable and peaceful, with a large bed, and I slept really well. Remember this is a quite old pub though and not a modern hotel, so it has the odd quirk here and there (eg.quite narrow stairs to the rooms) - which to me only adds to its charm. I loved every aspect of it, but what stands out is the extraordinarily good service, where no request was too much trouble, and where staff and owner alike were obviously very keen to ensure that our stay was as enjoyable and restful as possible. It was an altogether wonderful stay, and I will definitely visit again.

The Buttery cancelled us last minute as they were suddenly closing down (!?) Luckily we managed to secure a room at The Woodstock Arms in time. And we are so glad!! The location is perfect for visiting Blenheim Palace and Woodstock itself is so gorgeous to visit. But The Woodstock Arms was the best unexpected surprise of all. Firstly the outside of the building is inviting with its charming features but inside we were met with a cosy fire and decor and the friendliest staff ever. Our room was lovely and had everything needed. The shower was good and powerful, tea and coffee making facilities and comfy bed. I had such a good nights sleep! We had dinner and breakfast in the pub below our rooms and each different staff member was just so friendly and attentive. The food was also incredible. I actually can’t stop thinking about their French Onion soup now! What started as a last minute panic when The Buttery cancelled our booking and nearly ruined our plans was a blessing in disguise as we would never have experienced The Woodstock Arms otherwise. This is hands down our new place every time we stay in Woodstock. I would highly recommend staying, and if not, visiting for the food and staff alone! The beef was absolutely incredible — perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavour. Every bite just melted in my mouth. The accommodation was spotless and high quality, the lady I spoke to was incredibly friendly when I called and the staff on arrival were extremely polite, welcoming and clearly professional and experienced. We were unaware of the high food standard when booking, we decided to cancel our plans to eat in the town and were not disappointed, the most delicious meal either of us have eaten and we could not wait for the breakfast, this was again sublime. My roast beef whilst beautifully cooked was on hot thanks to the gravy, the roasted whole carrot, was cremated and exploded black carbon so was placed on our uncleared shared charcuterie starter board. Checked the reviews and most one and two stars are from years ago and all the latest are 4 and 5s so we gave it a go. Welcomed by a very stressed server who said there was no space we were led in by another ultra kind server who sat the 3 of us in one of the tiny remaining tables. Place was packed to the brim of Chinese people on holiday that stop here in large groups to eat, clearly organised by the bus or travel companies. This means that the food is cheap but ultra fresh. We ordered a few things and I must say that the noodles and sweet and sour were the highlight of the meal while the honey pork ( a new dish I never tried before despite half of my family was born and bred in the mainland) was very very good despite the cuts were of cheap parts of the animal. We really eat in abundance and all plates were clean in a heartbeat. The atmosphere is that of a genuine restaurant in rural China ( for good and bad!!) so very authentic and not pretentious with fresh flavoursome food. If you expect a sanitised westernised Chinese restaurant please try something else. Everything here felt and tasted of China and reminded me the many times I have been and travelled there. Price wise we paid 36 quid with drinks, 12 quid per head… no more comments needed here. So yes I would go again and suggest you go to if you like authenticity.

The food tastes incredible, our particular highlights are the "Super Greens" organic Saag Aloo, the Yellow Lentil Daal, the Punjabi Khadi Curry and the Punjabi Bahjis. Orders we placed online for pick up at 1030am. When I got there at 1030am Paulette was the only employee there. She said she was working by herself and the orders were not ready. A Group of what appears to be young adults, or teens possibly, were gathered in the corner of the store yelling “guys there’s a customer here” when I walked in. Next, an employee in the back yells “just as I started washing dishes” as if annoyed. Staff members and/or other customers in the corner of the are snickering and giggling as an employee walks to the front, offering no greeting, no eye contact. Everyone still snickering and giggling. My son and I left. No order was placed, nothing was said. We just made our way to the exit. I’ve never received decent customer service during any of my prior visits to this location. However, my son requested Subway for dinner, and it was nearby. I’ll never visit this location again. Always terrible service, but this visit solidified the reason I should not and will not return in the future. Hope management considers reinforcing a higher level of customer service and professionalism among staff or possibly bringing in more mature staff.
