We had a great stay at the White House! Our room (Presidential Suite) was very spacious, clean and well-equipped; the different themes of the rooms are a highlight! Only drawback: the design of the shower - the entire floor gets wet.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Dinner was delicious. The kids enjoyed the indoor pool and billiard table a lot.
"White House" has seen better days, but we felt very comfortable and would definitely recommend it!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and provided outstanding service, always going above and beyond to make our experience comfortable and memorable. From the security officer to the manager, every member of the team was courteous, well-mannered, and genuinely eager to assist us at all times.
Each room offered a unique experience and was well-maintained, comfortable, and luxurious. The pool was also exceptionally well-maintained and spacious. The food exceeded our expectations in both quality and variety.
We also encountered an unfortunate incident during our visit, and the compassion and support we received from the staff were truly heartwarming. They were incredibly understanding and helpful, allowing us to extend our stay for a couple of extra days until the matter was resolved. Their hospitality, patience, and genuine care made a difficult situation much easier for us.
Every aspect of our stay—from the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms to the overall atmosphere of the property—was remarkable. The staff’s dedication and kindness truly set this place apart.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Anuradhapura. It’s not just a place to stay, but a place where you’ll feel genuinely cared for and warmly welcomed.

Unhappy Stay
Thirteen of us travelling to Anuradhapura stayed for two nights on 21st and 22nd November 2025 at Hotel White House located on a main road. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a refreshing drink and guided to our rooms each uniquely named. We were assigned room "Kingsbury" on the third floor accessible by elevator.
The airconditioned room featured two freshly made beds and a clean bathroom with fresh towels. However, privacy was limited as the far side of the room opened to a common corridor accessible to other guests and children. The room was also not adequately soundproof, as we could hear conversations and a child crying in the adjacent room during the night.
Lunch consisted of typical Sri Lankan cuisine while the dinner was served from a set menu. The bar offered beer but no spirits.
On the evening of the 22nd, my wife experienced gastric reflux. I requested a simple dish of kanji (boiled rice, salt and water) for her dinner, but the staff initially refused! After speaking to a supervising member of the staff, this was provided with some reluctance. This incident highlighted a lack of preparedness and willingness to assist guests in need. If you do plan to stay here, please be aware that support for health-related issues may be limited.

We booked two rooms, each designed with a unique theme — something I haven’t seen before in a Sri Lankan hotel. The bathrooms were moderately clean, and the beds were comfortable. The honeymoon suite had a large balcony facing the main road, but it wasn’t usable due to pigeon droppings. The place is nice and really clean. Staff is nice.
We paid 2500 rupies going directly, so same price you can pay through booking, so book with that.
They suggest us a big breakfast for price of 3$ extra each person. Since we don't need to eat all this amount for breakfast and price seemed quite hi comparing what you can spend, we didn't take it.
We had problem to find it during the night because there is not light signs and mark on Google wasn't exactly right.
The location is a bit far from train station and centre so not comfortable if you walk, you would need a tuk tuk for a average price of 150 rupies.

Aber Achtung: Knochen sind noch dran und man muss alles selbst pulen.
Am kommenden Tag wurden wir für das Frühstück zu unserer Überraschung mit einem Boot zur anderen Flussseite gepaddelt. Hier gab es zum tollen Ausblick einen frisch gepressten Fruchtsaft, Tee, Wasser, Toast, Marmelade, Butter, Spiegelei und allerlei frisches Obst. Es war so gut, dass wir am kommenden Morgen gleich nochmal hierher gekommen sind! Das Personal war freundlich und zuvorkommend. Aber leider spricht nur einer von ihnen wirklich verständliches Englisch.

The rooms are very dirty. The pillows and sheets seem like they haven’t been changed in years. The TVs don’t work, and the floors are filthy. The front office has no cooling system — we were sweating the entire time until check-in.

The staff are all very friendly, however, during our three day stay the room wasn't cleaned or attended to once. We had a lovely, 2-night stay at Hummingbird Leisure Villa with a large group. The rooms were well-maintained with all the amenities and, most importantly, spotless - definitely the cleanest we’ve been to in Anuradhapura. The ambience of the place is lovely and cosy, surrounded by lush green gardens where even cheeky peacocks visit! We had a grand time in the swimming pool in the premises as well. Staff were very friendly and helpful, always with ready smiles on their faces.

In less than half an hour since check in, we opted to me moved to a new room or get a full refund as the room was not at all in a condition to stay. Actually the location is good. Not too far to the city centre. It is not a palace ! it is just a guest house with minimum facilities. Room is quite big but for us (me and my husband) was given a family room where we had one double bed and two single beds . It was too tight. Mini fridge was empty. Not even a bottle of water was provided as a gesture. bathroom is outdated, dinning area is ok but it is just an area with some tables and chairs. .very close (compact) with the neighbours. one side(next to the dining area) is dirty and disgusting as the open drainage system below. London Palace is a peaceful guesthouse in a quiet sidestreet. The room was clean and bright, with doors opening onto a balcony with a green leafy outlook. Really good size room, with desk, dressing table, open wardrobe, ceiling fan, air con, bar fridge (so nice to come back to cold drinks after being out in the heat!!) and a very comfortable bed with mosquito net. The staff were very friendly and helpful - they arranged a lovely Tuk tuk driver called Pala for a couple of half-day trips to the Anuradhapura ancient city and Mihintale. We were extremely disappointed the way how this place treated the domestic clients, we were a group, and we sat down for a drink at the main table, had to ask every single thing like forks, spoons, no sense about hospitality at all. They only cared about the foreign visitors and neglected us as soon we visited the place. We were respecting the rules like from not singing, but we were continously asked not to shout on the dining table, it was just talking to each other.. Imagine what would they have said for the foreign people if they were doing the same? A visitor is a visitor, regardless of their skin color, or country of residence. We came for 2 nights but we left immediately after one night. Specially the hot water shower was unadjustable due to the height and the water was like hell hot, we couldn't bath properly. Completely disappointed in the way how they had learnt about hospitality.

Poor service. I gave notice that we will be arriving around 10:30am. Upon our arrival at 1.00pm, there was no one in the resort. When we called them, the owner said that the caretaker has gone out and they thought we would arrive at 3.00pm. I clearly informed them the previous day that we would arrive in the morning. The caretaker told us where they keep the key to the resort and asked us to wait until he arrives in 30 minutes 😅 By then, the rooms were not arranged. The environment was not clean. Some glasses with half-drink juice were there at the reception. After the caretaker arrived, we moved to a different location. Around 2 hours of our journey were wasted by them.

You can rely on Google Maps to reach this location. The hotel is located on a main road and it's very easy for us to access all historic places in Anuradhapura within a short time. You have ample parking space in the hotel premises. The owner and his wife helped us during our two-night stay and served us all our needs without delay. I want to specially mention the food they serve, it's delicious and fresh. The best thing is that they provide food for a nominal value and u can't get this best price at any restaurant in Anuradhapura town. So it's worth and easy if u arrange your food in this hotel. But keep in your mind that u have to give your menu to the hotel beforehand coz they need some time to prepare the same for u freshly. The best thing about the accommodation is the hosts, Thilan and his family are wonderful.
First of all, they helped us, even before arriving in Sri Lanka, to organize a safari in Wilpattu and this was great, we were able to see many animals, even the leopard.
They made us delicious dinners and lunches, with typical Sri Lankan food.
The room was great, it was very big and comfortable and in the middle of nature.
But the best thing was the kindness of the owners. We had a problem with our tuk tuk (it wouldn't start) and Thilan helped us start it on several occasions so that we could go on our excursions. He also spoke to the owner of the tuk tuk (since he didn't speak English very well) so that he could find a solution and see what to do to fix it.

We stayed there for only one night and left after waking up. To be honest, we didn't sleep much because the room is not mosquito proof. There is a net for the bed. However, this is for a one-room bed, so if there are two of you lying under it, you constantly touch the net and the mosquitoes bite through. It's a horror next to rice fields. I loved this place.Monara Arana Farm is a beautiful accomodation just outside Anuradhapura easy to reach by tuk tuk. Gayan, his wife and his partners are great hosts friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable and the Sri Lankan breakfast was rich and tasty. We participate to the cooking experience and we had fun preparing traditional Sri Lankan foood. I only can recommend this place. The Cabanas are cozy and with an amazing view. It's right in front of the fields, quiet and calm. There are some cats and dogs which i loved. And it's perfectly situated near sacred city of Anuradhapura (10min with Tuktuk). You can also book some very good massages and the food is excellent too. I came to meditate at the star gate so the location is primal for my purpose. I love the room the balcony for dance and practice right away and decided to extend for a month.
Then I found a good rapport with the host family, we cooked, meditated and explored healthy recipes together. They also were very polite and attentive to my needs, gave me enough support as well as privacy to be with myself.
It was an easily loving dynamic overall.
But one thing I noticed from staying for 5 weeks here, is that sometimes the worshippers come late after the temple closes or from long drive.
Yes this house is where the host couple live as well, and they do stay around to cater to guest and make sure we get everything we need.
Which also means, they can not rest until the late arrivallers finally settle down after midnight or also get up super early to assist guest prepare for offerings.
So I volunteer my voice here to invite guests to come with mindfulness and peace instead of chaotic hassle, keeping everyone up when they come and go.
WE MAKE OUR WORLD a better place if we all take into consideration the impact of our actions on the wellbeing of those around us.
If we are here for worship, peace and worship shall not only stay in and for the temple.
It shall be our life that we offer to peace and truth.
Worship is not a performance for Buddha statues, and he never taught us to give our performance only to him and not our very own life.
The owner (wife) and I talked a lot about bhavana and started meditating together at Vesigiri and Star Gate, and also on our balcony overlooking the stupas.

We had a lovely short stay at Nugasewana. The Owner was extremely accomodative and friendly, available at any time of the day and willing to go out of the way to help with our requests and comfort.
There are several rooms available at different ranges, and they are cleaned before you arrive by the owners, the large compound attracts a variety of birds and is serene. There is a pathway to the lake, although we couldn't visit. There is also a common kitchen available for use should you need to. The place is being expanded to a second floor. Should note that this is a very economical and conveninent arrangement, and not to expect the ambiance of a hotel.

Our recent stay was deeply disappointing and far below acceptable standards. Upon entering the room, we were immediately met with a strong, unpleasant odor that made it very uncomfortable to remain indoors. This was very nice and clean hotel. The best hotel i have ever stayed in Sri Lanka. However we faced a price scam. When we booked the place they promissed two rooms for 6000 Rs double room and 5000 Rs single room. But whne we check out they increased the price to 8000 Rs and 10000 Rs without prior information. But for 10000 Rs we paid only 8000 after discuss. This type of scamming untollarable. Since it was the 1st day of the year, we did not make any dispute. Just paid silently and left. However place is wonderful and the owner lady was very good.
