I liked being able to see the pastries in the window, in order to decide what you want before going into the tiny store! The staff were really warm and welcoming, and advised on the products they enjoy. I picked up the Hazelnut Pain au Chocolat and a Pain Suisse. Both pastries looked stunning. I decided to save the Pain Suisse for a later day, but ate the Pain au Chocolat shortly after purchasing. This was really tasty! The pastry itself had a nice amount of crunch and squish, though I would have liked a little more crunch. The hazelnut frangipane through the centre was super flavourful and there was just the right amount! The chocolate through the middle was of a good quality but slightly overpowered the hazelnut when consuming both simultaneously. Regardless, this was a very good pastry and I would purchase it again! I'd recommend twelve triangles based on this bake. However, I must note that my friend got the pistachio blackcurrant croissant, and could not taste any pistachio! Update - I heated the Cross Laminated Pain Suisse from frozen - this was absolutely incredible! The filling was a perfect balance of vanilla creme and chocolate chips (which cut the sweeteness perfectly). Even though I had frozen the product, it was still super buttery and I got a good crisp all the way around. One of the best pain suisse I have ever had - highly recommend!

We then had French patisseries to take away. They were good but the eclairs tasted like they were from the day before. The baguettes were very authentic. This was such a classic and was filled with melty chocolate inside, it was great but you have got to try the more unique things. We got these because we can never say no to a chocolate croissant. They were a perfect chocolate croissant, so flaky and delicious, not a need to try as you’ve probably tasted something like it before. Cardamom - 4/5 SO fragrant and tasty! This was a more bread-like texture which I wasn’t expecting but it was so good to enjoy with a latte. Just the right amount of sweetness and insane aroma and flavor! I think this is a popular one that people try. My only qualm was that it was not a flaky pastry and rather a bready one but that’s just personal preference! Definitely recommend it! Overall this place was so so worth the wait for us!! The pastries we tasted here were unique, delicious, and we did not feel like our teeth were rotting out of our heads after!! If you can withstand a long queue HIGHLY recommend trying! (P.S. The place is small and really can only accommodate 8 people inside so that’s definitely part of the reason there’s long queues outside. I’m sure if it were just a smidge bigger the queues wouldn’t be as bad so don’t let the long line stop you from something great!)

We were looking for a less traditional wedding cake and loved the look of individual cakes on cake stands of different heights. We ordered Victoria sponge, salted caramel, Carrot cake and vegan red velvet. The cakes were so fresh and so delicious! Our guests had so many compliments for them. For starters we enjoyed the nibbles board and then really really loved the cullen skink (a highlight)! We just went for a bottle of house white wine but that impressed too. For our mains we tried the haggis and the lions mane steak which were alright but the dishes weren’t as refined as they could be, with the ‘whisky sauce’ for the haggis definitely missing a bit of whisky, and the quinoa of the lions mane dish feeling a bit random. We still really enjoyed our meal and left full and happy with great service as well (forgot our waitress’s name but we were sat on the underground level and she was lovely!). I’ve always visited Sicilian Pastry Shop when ever I visit Edinburgh. The variety is just amazing spoiled for choice. The macarons are done right. This was the shop that introduced me to them in the past and I was blown away how good the one I had a year or so ago was. When I commented on the colour and the looks the lady in the shop said 'that's just the food colouring and they will taste even better'. When I said I would have preferred the green, classic look (which is also how it appears on the website) she said 'oh well'. 🤣 Just in case I had any doubt that they didn't really care. They are still okay but so far off of what was produced by this very shop in the past.
