I knew of this place but don't know why I never ate here. Maybe it is because of the prices. It is a $$$ restaurant so I have to wait to till I can afford it. Anyway, it is a good value place because the portions are huge!!! The escargot appetizer was small-ish compared to the rest. The last time I had escargots was in France and I wasn't thrilled but this.... It renewed my appreciation for escargots again. The scallop appetizer was rich with the cream sauce and mashed potatoes but it was very yummy. We had 4 different dishes. Each comes with salad or soup and 1 side. 3 of us had salad and 1 had the soup du jour - cream of mushroom. The soup was very salty. Had to take that to go and add more water later. As for the salad, I thought we all have the same salad just different dressing but I was surprised. The Cesar salad had an anchovy on it! The wedge salad definitely had a high wedge. Right about now we were already getting full. Did I mention the fresh bread assortment and thick pads of butter? They were so good. One of us ate it like it was cheese, out a big slap of it on a slice of bread to eat it. For main meals, we had the rack of lamb, 14 oz filet, 28oz ribeye with bones, and duck breast. I've been doing it for years and I don't really ever feel uncomfortable. But then there's not many places I would feel uncomfortable. Upon sitting down at a high top table next to a speed boat, I was greeted by a young lady who brought me bread. Now I haven't had bread since June and here it is nearly the end of August and I just wanted to put as much bread in my mouth as I could. There were three slices of the slightest tangy sourdough that made me want to eat through 20 loaves of it. There is the smallest mattering of salt on the top crust that just made one slice after another jump into my mouth. Probably because I hadn't had bread in so long it was extra delicious, I'm not sure I just think it was really good bread. Don't think I'm making too much of the bread, but I couldn't help think if having it toasted on a cold winter morning with butter and a drizzle of honey and a cup of tea would not have just made everything in life worthwhile. My server came over and she was delightful. Lovely young woman very upbeat but not in that roll your eyes way. I had already made up my mind when I looked at the menu online. A glass of Riesling and it began. I ordered oysters, three from Duxbury and three from Wellfleet Mass. Both have this very distinctive flavor and characteristics. But for my money Wellfleet has the best briny toothsome oysters and I was not disappointed. For a few moments I was transported home and having dinner with a friend of mine where we always got oysters on Fridays. I decided to forgo a formal meal and try a couple of different things. The first thing was the conch fritters with a spicy aioli. The last time I had Conch fritters was in the Cayman Islands more than 10 years ago, so this was a a treat. Crispy on the outside pillowy on the inside and juicy little bits of conch. Now if you've never had a conch fritter, the frying process can make the pieces of conch hard and less enjoyable. These were perfect. The conch was tender and the fritter itself was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I also enjoyed the mussels. I love muscles and these came with a delightful broth and a grilled hunk of the bread for dipping in the juices. Mussels were tender, The broth was flavorful and oh that bread. It was the perfect threesome that brought me back to New England once again. Finally, for my gluttonous greedy self I enjoyed the fruits de mer. By this time I was getting full but I had to attempt a platter full of delight; fried scallops shrimp oysters calamari and cod. I tried one of each with the dipping sauces. I was done. Another glass of Riesling and I was carrying home the last vestiges of a meal that I will remember for a very long time. It has to be up in my top five.

Everyone at our table was pleased with what they ordered. All steaks were done as requested and the seafood was excellent as well. Some of our visits have been just myself and my husband and we have opted for dining in the bar area and our dinners there were also excellent. Each entree we have ordered there has been perfect, and we have tried a couple of desserts as well. The baked Alaska was the best we have ever had, and the Guinness chocolate cake (recommended by bartender Mike) was to die for. We dine out quite often and we both agree that Delaney's bartenders/servers are the best! All of them have been courteous, knowledgeable at their trade and friendly. The drinks they have made for us are always a hit, from martinis and Manhattans to after dinner ice cream drinks, with the grasshopper being husband Jerry's favorite. Mike's quick wit keeps us laughing and Ben, bar manager, has been helpful in picking a good wine and a pleasant tequila for myself and friends. While dining at the bar a couple of times we have met some of the very nice regulars who have shared good conversation with us. We are looking forward to visiting Delaney's again during the holidays when we are in the Madison area.

Made reservations in advance which is a must and highly recommended. The location and especially the gorgeous view of this place is what attracts so many people here . We were greeted and taken to our table . Service was good and our server explained the menu and concept . Cocktails are extraordinarily good . So good you cannot just have one . We got the green goddess with gin which was refreshing and the smoked J Henry old fashioned which is out of this world . Expensive cocktails , but so good . The dishes we decided on were four to go around and share . Salad green with apples and grapes topped with prosciutto and a light vinaigrette that tied it all together . Very light and a good start . Roasted beets were well prepared and goat cheese on the side also nicely balanced and light . The pistachio& pea risotto although it looked heavy was not as rich as one would expect but had the right amount of ingredients to not make it too heavy . Really enjoyed this . Finally the chicken thigh kebabs with smashed fingerling potatoes and an avocado thick purée sauce was a good dish . Overall the food met our expectations and the menu has great potential for tasting many different style of cooking and cuisines. Service was good but you can’t help noticing that they are slightly understaffed . Perhaps it’s the time of year where it’s hard to get more people in to help . Despite this our server did a good job . I will come back again for another visit later in the fall / winter

I was wowed by the spicy green salad topped with three generous chunks of perfectly cooked lobster - for $15! (A local chop house serves a Caesar for $16 and you can add shrimp for $15 - that's alot of money for a standard fare salad). Overall, we found the pricing truly kind - we each had two perfect portions and split a bottle of wine for a total tab of $110. I also really appreciated the pacing, with a nice break between courses. The Midwest agricultural scene is brilliantly highlighted in every menu, which changes often with the seasons. In addition, it’s always nice to see a restaurant run by chef-owners, especially ones as masterful as these two. I’d strongly recommend starters like the Hiramasa/Hamachi and the Foie Gras, whjch coincidentally are menu staples (but the accompaniments with the dish change seasonally). The foie has been the only escalope—a slice off the whole lobe—that I’ve tried in the US, and it’s seared excellently and melts in your mouth with that distinct foie flavor. I’d also recommend any pasta, as they’re made in house, especially the Parisienne gnocchi or (forms of) ravioli. The gnocchi has a wonderful char & crisp to the outside, giving way to the pillowy soft inside that just soaks up the flavor from the jus. It’s one of my favorite dishes, and I’m not even the biggest fan of kale (and it’s still on the menu at the time of writing this review). There’s just the slightest hint of Italian influence in Fairchild’s pasta, sitting in the shadow of familiar but expertly curated Midwestern ingredients. Overall, I’d strongly recommend Fairchild especially if you’re new to the Midwest dining scene. This is a 4.5 rating. Good vine selection, the bottle we had was divine. Every dish we picked met and some exceeded our expectations. Service is prompt and friendly. They do need to figure out how to accommodate people splitting some of the dishes; we had to ask for extra plates and plates that came were too tiny, so we ate off of the main serving plate. The atmosphere is ok and can be improved; the layout of the place is problematic. Bar area is great and we preferred to dine there - they serve full menu. All the hype, and maybe one criticism, was deserved! The service, as soon as my wife and I walked in, was warm and accommodating. Maitake tempura, maybe our most talked about dish of the meal. Was it the lightest tempura batter? No, but the flavor and the concept worked. We kept reaching for more even as other dishes arrived. The aioli was hard to reach at the bottom of the bowl when the bowl itself was filled to the brim with the maitake, but we made do. Beef tartare, maybe the lone underachiever. There was so much shaved cheese that we couldn’t taste the beef. Oysters, I’m partial to briny oysters and those were tasty. Hamachi crudo with kohlrabi and blueberries. I looked at it when it first arrived at the table and thought this looks like a dish meant more for show conceptually, but all the elements worked. The rest of the buffet was very underwhelming. The Chinese section was somewhat small and only had the basic Chinese dishes. My daughter was disappointed in no egg drop soup. The hibachi area did not look appetizing or fresh. The salad area was mostly empty and I don't mean because it was eaten the bowls were just not there. There was a staff person who would attend to the buffet but because they were not that busy she would just move the food around to form new piles to make the food look fresh even though it was not. They had a few of the traditional buffet mini cakes in the dessert area and the ice cream machine put out ice cream that was more ice than cream. The dining area was very dark but clean from what we could tell. The staff was very nice and did a great job keeping the table cleared without us even noticing they were there. One staff did make our kids origami animals which they enjoyed. If you are looking for a large amount of sushi for a good price this would be a place to go otherwise I would probably avoid it. Our meal time was 6:00 p.m. on a Wednesday evening.
