We were promptly seated and then we waited for some time. The waitress came and took our drink order. She accidentally brought my wife a virgin version of the beverage she'd ordered. We waited some more, quite a long time (and the restaurant had few people in it at the time). She corrected my wife's drink eventually, but left the old drink on the table AND NEVER REFILLED OUR WATER OR DRINKS AGAIN. After some time had passed, I ordered an appetizer (shrimp cocktail) and four entrees. The entrees came out and I had to ask a manager to bring us the tuna spread and crackers they normally provide with service. Our meals came out and I had to snag ANOTHER employee to inform them that we never received our appetizer (cold shrimp, so it couldn't have taken 45 minutes to prepare). We ate our entire meals without the waitress ever coming over. We waited, and flagged her down for the check. We waited perhaps another 15-20 minutes, until my wife walked across the restaurant, over to the register, and informed the waitress that we were ready to pay. You also choose how you would like it cooked. Then they have about 10 different sauces, you can choose as many as you like, even doubles if you choose to. The sauces all come on the side in a small little cup. I ordered Grouper (2 smaller but still decent size filets) grilled with a pineapple mango salsa which did not disappoint! You choose your 2 sides, which i ordered the asparagus and a delicious parmesan risotto. The other dish ordered was Rockfish (1 decenct size filet) which they choose to have it broiled with the pineapple mango salsa also, the parm risotto too, but opted for a side salad which came as a smaller size of their house salad which looked delish also. We both agreed the Grouper was the winner of the 2. Overall, it was a really nice dinner for 2 with 2 appetizers, I had water with lemon and they had a couple of beers for $6, I think the total for the bill was around $ 76.00. Mine said there would be an heirloom tomato salad and I had one grape tomato cut in half on my plate. With so many other fantastic places to eat in Reho, we will not be returning here.

So glad we did! What a great meal. We had made a reservation for our party of seven and were promptly seated and taken care of. The impressive cocktail list lives up to the reputation. Ordered a 60 minute draft and an Old Fashioned along with a dozen oysters and some Clam Chowder. Off to a good start. An order of Hush Puppies also were placed. All apps and drinks arrived in good order and were tasty. Entrees ordered were the Smash Burger with a side of Corn on the Cob and fries, Connecticut Style Lobster Roll (you get the choice between the Maine, mayo or CT, butter which is nice) and the Maryland Crab Cakes. We were a group of five and three of us ordered that drink. It was likely the best drink several of us had ever tasted. For appetizers, we ordered a variety of salads, the sweetbread, and the crab ravioli. Every single dish was fresh and absolutely delicious. I could have eaten the golden beet salad as a meal. Several others in our group loved the sweetbread but you must be adventurous to try that! For Entrees, we ordered the rabbit and scallops (separate dishes). The proteins were each incredibly fresh, tender and plated to perfection. We did have a reservation and the restaurant was busy, however, service was still efficient. Our group has been visiting The Back Porch for several decades and we always look forward to our next visit. This is an expensive establishment but you will not be disappointed.

The place is astronomically overpriced for the quality of food and drinks we received. Like… completely divorced from reality overpriced. The food would have been fine at $25/plate, but for $55/plate I expect better than tough, overcooked chicken and duck. It also took more than 40 minutes for our dishes to arrive. The owner is passionate but she needs to be careful what she says; she is condescending and insulting without even realizing it. I felt like I was in a car dealership being pressure sold on $25 drinks and $200 caviar. She also claimed the vodka they use will not give you a hangover, I can confidently confirm that is false. Victoria, the owner treats you like family as soon you walk in. She went through every part of the menu section by section. She walked us through our vodka flight tasting and helped us pick out our martinis. Banana and lemon tea martinis were great and they were 10 oz each. You only need one. For an appetizer, we went with the oysters and I was hesitant eating crème fresh with oysters but I think I have been eating oysters wrong my whole life with hot sauce. These oysters had crème fresh, dill, lemon and salt and were delicious and so fresh. For our entrees we had the satsivy Duck and beef stroganoff, both were incredible. I crave the satsivy duck everyday and wish I ordered 2 of them. I don’t recall the name of the dessert but it was puff pastry with homemade cream in the middle of each layer and just the perfect amount of sweetness. I wish I could of given 10 stars. Service from Victoria and her son was OUTSTANDING!! They were so attentive and very family oriented. We loved hearing stories of her food and how personable she was to us. I was very skeptical that the vodka wouldn’t have a taste, smell or a hangover but I was very surprised on how smooth the flight was and no repercussions in the morning. Unfortunately, every single time we were refused service. Even just sitting at the bar for a cocktail was not allowed. We had probably the best dinner (IMO) in our regular visits to Lewes/Rehoboth. Excellent well prepared food, elegant yet substantial… and plated significantly better than their peers. Table service is near perfect with attentive wait staff, support (bussers/runners) and managers. Photos should speak for me but the scallop crudo, and grilled peach (with beautiful fresh ricotta) dishes were totally worth the price and returning for. But for a gastro house though, I expect more. Example something simple like the red potatoes with grated cheese was basically canned grated cheese vs. freshly ground cheese. Rooms were severely outdated, service was mediocre, friendliness of staff was just okay. Very little work has been done to rooms with partial view of beach. Bar far, THE WORST bathroom I’ve ever experienced at a “hotel”. Broken toilet, stained walls dingy towels/linen…an absolute nightmare! Definitely what I image a motel experience to be. We requested housekeeping clean our room and specifically asked for fresh sheets and towels. When we returned to our room later that evening, the same make up stained sheets were on the bed that were there when we arrived. We had to ask multiple times for maintenance to come repair the lock on our door. They eventually came to repair it the second day we were there. If it weren’t a holiday weekend and a challenge to find other hotel accommodations, we would’ve checked out a day early and gone elsewhere. If your concern is convenience and proximity to the beach, this may be the place for you. If you require decent accommodations and convenience, continue to look elsewhere. Definitely won’t be returning to this place unless major renovations are done.

When we got there, the roads were blocked off because of a gas leak (at the hotel). I called the desk to see what we should do and the gentleman starting arguing with me, telling me that he could see spots for me to park even after I repeatedly told him the streets were blocked. I would be disappointed in this place if it were a $100 a night beach shack. But spending over $1100 here for three (3) nights off season is infuriating. They did tell me they were knocking $120 off my bill but 1. that is not even close to what needs to come off it and 2. they did not actually do it. Do not stay here under any circumstance. Stay ANYWHERE else. There is a Hampton Inn a mile or two up the road, stay there and drive to the beach. This place is a disaster, a train wreck, a falling apart ripoff. But it is right on the beach, I’ll give it that. But actually staying there will absolutely ruin your family vacation. Do not do it.

We’ve stayed in all different rooms and are pretty much confident in knowing which rooms we like the most. This latest trip however was a bit disappointing. In short, if you’re traveling during peak season and enjoy the ocean front rooms (Ambassador Front King) at a rate of $359 a night, make sure you DO NOT GET THE LINE OF ROOMS 125, 225, 325 or 425! The bathroom is tiny tiny tiny and the other rooms definitely have larger bathrooms so the photos on the website are sometimes deceiving. Before unpacking for three nights stay I immediately requested a different room, knowing what the bathrooms normally look like and knowing that I would not be happy with this room. I was told by two different people at the front desk that the Hotel was completely booked and that I could not be moved either that night or any day following. I called the hotel directly and was told that there was availability for the weekend for the rooms that I had wanted. They were available for the following two nights that they would be there and I would have to check tomorrow to see when they were ready. After settling into our room, we decided to not pick up and move again and stay in our room. As much as we love the hotel location, the desk staff is usually frustrated with any requests and while I understand that we were traveling during the height of the season, (August) I find the same issues in October, or the winter months. Daily veg really needed seasoning. Bbq shrimp app was overcooked unfortunately - likely bc they didn't parcook the bacon first. Yummy ending though: Desserts of chocolate cake, key lime pie, rum cake were all very good...and excellent apple pie a la mode. The overwhelming issue with the restaurant was it was HOT-83 degrees to be exact and I know because the thermostat was behind my head. We were told it was because a door kept opening to the stairs that led up to the balcony. I didn't think the door was opening hardly at all so if this was really the case I wouldn't eat there in the summer. I honestly think the AC was broken and they wouldn't admit it. It was hard to enjoy any food or wine because of the overwhelming heat and stale air. The apps were good and the wine was thankfully chilling in a bottle on the table. The dinner course took longer than average to come out but the seafood dishes were worth it. The pasta dishes did seem dry and I wouldn't recommend them based on our experience. Dessert sounded good but we were sweating so badly we left as soon as possible. Still, it took over 2.5 hours to finish dinner because the service was slower than average and the restaurant wasn't that busy and certainly not full. I would try this again in the winter months but am skeptical about returning at any point while the weather is warm.
