(原文) Rock Creek Park is Washington, DC’s 1,754‑acre urban sanctuary—a lush mix of meadows, forests, and stream valleys right in the city. This historic natural preserve was founded in 1890 and designed by the Olmsted Brothers . It offers an exceptional network: over 32 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and trail-running, plus scenic paved paths along Beach Drive . The park also features a nature center with live exhibits, a planetarium, tennis courts, a golf course, the century‑old Peirce Mill, and the historic Joaquin Miller Cabin . Visitors love its peaceful woodland, wildlife (deer, foxes, birds), and seasonal beauty—especially fall foliage. It's common to stroll, jog, picnic along bridges and creekbanks, or enjoy ranger-led programs . Tips: bring water, stay aware of cyclists on shared paths, don’t enter once dark falls (park closes at sunset), and head early on weekends to beat crowds. A timeless urban escape with layers of history and nature—highly recommended.

(原文) Rock Creek Park is a nice place to visit, offering a wide range of activities for everyone. As a biker, I particularly appreciate that much of the park is closed to cars, especially on weekends. This creates a fantastic, wide path that's perfect for exploring on two wheels. Beyond biking, the park has a variety of decent hiking trails, plenty of picnic spots, and community grills. With so much to do, Rock Creek Park is a solid park.
Dondré — Google review
(原文) Followed the trail along the creek from Van Ness metro to the Boundary Bridge. Not too crowded on a sunny fall Saturday. One thing to consider it that certain crossings require hopping from rock to rock and some parts of the trail are muddy. So sneakers may not be adequate depending on what part of the trail you're on.
Paul — Google review
(原文) 33 years in the area and this was my first visit. Will definitely need to go back when the gov is not shut down. Great fall scenery and energetic hike.

(原文) Absolutely gorgeous park just across from the Kennedy center in DC. It took me about 20 minutes to arrive from Navy Yard when there was traffic. There is a decent amount of parking if you go during an off-hour around mid day as well as a bike path that connects to it. The trail itself is well maintained and easy to navigate. There were so many birds, bees and other critters enjoying the park alongside walkers, it felt like the city was miles away instead of just next door. I love coming here to walk, listen to the sounds of nature, and clear my head during the week. It is truly a DMV treasure!
Gabriella I — Google review
(原文) 16MAY2025 The parking lot had a bit of empty spacey and the walk from the lot to the island was nice. The trail was good and easy. Great day out with my mate. We had a delicious lunch and drinks. The nature around us was beautiful.
Spiral T — Google review
(原文) One of my favorite DMV hideaways and celebrates one of my favorite presidents. Just across the Potomac from Georgetown and nestled next to Arlington, this oasis of nature is a great spot for short but beautiful hikes and yet you still get plenty of “forest-bathing” —we did some birding and even saw deer on the island!
Fin D — Google review
(原文) Excellent park, plenty of trails and shaded areas with excellent views across the water. Plan your parking well though! Not a lot of spots and they go very quick. The only restrooms are near the parking lot, and are your typical portapotty situation. There are several water fountains throughout the park, however. Highly recommend, overall!
Micah C — Google review
(原文) The Theodore Roosevelt Island park has beautiful views and lots of flora and fauna. The memorial itself is set deep in the woods and pays a great tribute to Roosevelt. I think that the fountains have fallen into deep neglect. We all noticed that the water was not running. The only water in any of the fountains was from rainwater and was fouled from tree limbs and leaves. I found pictures of the same fountains from 2022 and they were in the same condition then. It seems that the Park Service has decided to not maintain the fountains, which is a shame.
Dan N — Google review
(原文) Great walking trail. Parking lot gets full but don't be tempted to park on the grass unless you want to get a parking ticket.

(原文) Nice walking trail with good views of the old RFK stadium.
Nathan L — Google review
(原文) I bike on this trail almost weekly. It goes for miles with many places to turn off and try a new route. It can get busy in the evenings with runners, walkers, and other cyclists, but it’s nothing too crazy and still easy to keep a strong pace.
Carys B — Google review
(原文) Great trail for cycling, walking and running. It never seems to be too crowded and it goes along the river in and out of the tree coverage.

(原文) I went for a hike but my body asked for a jog. Place is beautiful, lots of runners and cyclists. Feels like a nature oasis right in the city. Beware of humidity if you’re not used to it.
Ximena G — Google review
(原文) I rode the trail from Georgetown to Chevy Chase and back, though the trail itself goes 5 miles further up if you want to go all the way. A good one if you, like me, haven't biked in a while but feel fit enough for a moderate challenge. Except the stretches that go through a little bit of the town, the trail has a beautiful dense canopy which is great on sunny days. You'll be riding either fairly close to the Potomac or through parks. I didn't stop a lot to get good sightings but did hear quite a lot of birds in some spots. There are no provisions for a few miles in between so do carry water, and snacks if you need some. You can get good coffee and bagels once you reach Chevy Chase. It is a free trail, no fees necessary.
Sagar V — Google review
(原文) Beautiful paved trail with a good mix of sunlight and shade. The path overall is flat/even (excepting the River Road bridge), but it's technically very slightly uphill in some areas heading north. There are usually at least a few other people within sight on the trail, so it feels very safe. An excellent way to get between Georgetown and downtown Bethesda on foot or bicycle. Other points of interest along the way include: the Bethesda Outdoor Pool, Washington Episcopal School, Little Falls Library, Little Falls Stream Valley Park, Fletcher's Cove, and Georgetown Waterfront. Capitol Bikeshare locations in: downtown Bethesda, River Road, Palisades (a few blocks from trail), and Georgetown.

(原文) Easy access from Crystal City hotels. You can loop over to the trail and back, as there are a couple of access points in the Reagan Airport area. Lots of shade and room for bikers and runners. Further north you get, the better the views you get of D.C. monuments.

(原文) Jan 2024 update: Since my initial review, there is work underway on the trail south of Belle Haven Park: - the small bridge just south of the park has been replaced (pictured) - the long bridge at Dyke Marsh is being replaced (pictured) - the sections of the trail that collapsed just north of Northdown Road have been repaired Nice to see! Hopefully this work is a precursor to resurfacing the water and root-damaged sections! ----- The trail location itself is wonderful offering spectacular views of DC, monuments/memorials, and the Potomac River. However, as a cyclist I must sadly rate it a '3' due to its poor and deteriorating condition. Tree root intrusion, water damage, and rough/decaying wooden bridges are common throughout the trail. The section south of Belle Haven Park is especially bad with large potholes and areas where the trail has actually collapsed. If you have never ridden the trail, use extreme caution especially on the southern end. It would have been great if the NPS had received money from the infrastructure bill to rehabilitate the MVT, but sadly that does not appear to have happened. You realize how bad the MVT has become when you ride the W&OD. This is a precious resource sadly not maintained...

(原文) Awesome trail for cyclists, bicyclist, runners and dog walking. Beautiful scenery with mile markers to George Washington’s Mount Vernon Plantation. Rented bikes from Washington DC (Unlimited Bikes) and rode round trip. Definitely recommend E-Bikes with possible wind, chilly conditions and or kids. 18 miles each way. Going back was definitely easier but trail has a lot wooden bridges and bumps in the asphalt from tree roots. Took majority of our day plus visiting the plantation. Highly recommend but if you have kids can be extremely difficult. We rented a tandem and our 11 yr basically enjoyed the ride 😀 Halfway point in a cute town in Alexandria, Virginia with Unlimited Biking location there as well. You can also drop off your bike their if your struggling all the way back into DC.

Walked the whole perimeter. The views are great. The trees are nice. Looks like a decent place for a picnic or fishing. There is so much potential here, but everything is in disrepair. The bathrooms are out of order, the sidewalk is more broken than whole. The benches and picnic tables are mostly broken. (原文) Such a gem! It's very scenic and rustic, and a quiet place to unwind. Be warned, the heritage island trail is more of a well worn path. That being said, it's awesome! At some points you are right up on the water and feel very secluded. I would recommend hiking boots or sturdy shoes. I dropped it one star only bc when you get to Kingman island it's hard to tell where the trail for that one begins, and the pedestrian entrance is always closed, preventing you from doing a loop from the main entrance, crossing both islands, exiting at the pedestrian entrance, and walking along Benning back to the main entrance. Doesn't matter though. My four legged buddies love to go every time, and I enjoy every moment of sharing it with them! We go often. It's a must see!

(原文) On a sunny day, I rented a bike and journeyed along the Metropolitan Branch Trail, stretching from the Rhode Island Metro Station to the New York Avenue Metro Station. I encountered a delightful urban escape filled with a mix of natural beauty, the rhythmic passing of trains, and vibrant street art that left me thoroughly impressed. One of the most captivating aspects of the Metropolitan Branch Trail is the proximity to the train tracks. The sight and sounds of trains passing by add an element of excitement and nostalgia, making this trail unique and memorable. What truly sets this trail apart, though, is the art that adorns its walls. The graffiti and murals along the way transform what would be an ordinary urban path into an open-air art gallery. The creativity and vibrancy of the artwork left me in awe and added a distinct character to my journey. Whether you're looking for a leisurely walk, an invigorating bike ride, or simply a place to immerse yourself in urban artistry, the Metropolitan Branch Trail has something to offer. It's a testament to the beauty found in unexpected places within the city, and I wholeheartedly recommend exploring this remarkable trail to anyone seeking a unique urban adventure.

(原文) I was able to spend 13 days at this Campground. My overall impression was it was a nice boondocking site. Most of the RV sites are spaced to provide some level of privacy. The biggest problem is infrastructure maintenance. This is a federally managed Campground and should have better maintenance. The roads were full of potholes, some deep enough to break an axle. The large trash containers were packed to the brim. There was a sign instructing campers to use the other dumpster in one of the four campgrounds in the park. These containers were managed by W/M waste removal, the largest in the area. The campground hosts were very accommodating and pleasant.

There were mostly beginners there but it was such a cool small town community vibe that it reminded me of my initial experiences learning Latin dance. There were other dance events happening simultaneously such as country line dancing, and swing dancing to a live band. The walk from the parking lot is a bit dark, it’s got kind of an old abandoned carnival vibe at night, spooky but cool. Very unique experience. It happens once a month, yeah I’ll probably go back.

(原文) It’s that time of the year! This is another well known cherry blossom spot so try to beat the crowd. Street parking was available, but of course limited on a Saturday. We only saw a few people actually driving through the cemetery. They have paper maps available at the front gate. Walking the lot has some ups and downs, but is generally easy. Another fun thing about the cemetery is that it’s dog friendly after a certain time of the day. I mean very dog friendly! It was a nice spring day so many people brought their dogs. We saw several dogs of all sizes frolicking together. I would look into the appropriate information if you’re planning to bring your canine, I believe there is a fee. I also loved watching the beekeepers tend to the very active hives stationed atop the crypts. It was fascinating to see the large masses of bees in the air around them. All eager to get to the surrounding flowering trees. This was my first visit, and I’d love to return throughout the seasons.

(原文) Nice little outdoor escape from the city, though you can hear cars on either Chain Bridge or the GW Parkway from any given spot. The sign indicates a circular trail around the old fort, but we never could find a trail that didn’t dead end. There are no trail markings to speak, so it’s a bit of a guessing game. It’s a good place on a hot sunny day because it’s all wooded and shade is abundant. Our little boy enjoy the cannons and had fun on the unpaved trails.

(原文) I have driven by it hundreds of times, but first visited last weekend. There is not much there. The fort is an earthen work fort. There are cannons, but have no historical value as they are mostly props. The signage is interesting. The best find for me was access to the Potomac Heritage Trail. There are only about a dozen parking spots and I would guess in summer they fill up quickly with hikers.

Period. There isn't much left of the fort itself, but you can clearly make out the earthworks hills (along with the trenches that surrounded them) that once made up the gun platforms. This position helped defend Fort Stevens during the war, firing over 100 rounds, including 30 from its famed "Parrot Gun", a 100-pounder monster of a cannon.

(原文) This is one of a ring of forts that surrounded Washington DC. When the Confederates attacked the ring, they hit Ft. Stevens - just a little down the road from this place. This place provided artillery support that eventually aided in discouraging the rebels from further incursions in this area and arguably saved DC. The fort is just off the main trail. One can make out the earthen walls without issue, and that’s 160 years later! Not much else is here but I think it’s important to realize that at the time this fort was in use, defense of this area was not a sure thing and this particular Confederate General had a reputation for burning - ask Chambersburg PA. This is a great place for US history. As with all NPS sites, you’ll want to check the website for self guided tour information as well as staff guided tour possibilities.

摇头叹息🤦🏾‍♂️ (原文) I’ve lived at Avalon at Gallery Place for some time now, and while the location is convenient, my experience has been far from ideal due to a number of serious issues. Throughout my time here, I’ve dealt with recurring problems including mice in the apartment, flooding in the bedroom, and insect infestations, notably bugs emerging from the dishwasher that were biting and drawing blood. That particular incident forced me to wash every single piece of clothing I owned, deep clean my furniture, and schedule multiple visits from pest control just to get the issue under control. The building’s infrastructure has also posed challenges. One of the only two elevators has been out of service for over a month, making daily life and moving through the building extremely inconvenient. The trash chute routinely overflows by Friday, which means residents are often left storing their garbage in their apartments until the chute is cleared the following Monday — an issue that contributes to the general decline in cleanliness and livability. That said, I do want to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the maintenance staff, especially Terence, who has consistently gone above and beyond to help residents. His professionalism and responsiveness have been a rare bright spot. Unfortunately, Terence will no longer be with Avalon, which is disappointing news for those of us who relied on his support. Front desk staff has also been great especially Brooke. Adding to the uncertainty, the property was recently sold, and new management will soon be taking over. Transitions like this are always concerning, especially given the existing problems that still need urgent attention. I hope the new management takes these issues seriously and makes real improvements, because right now, the condition of the property does not match the premium pricing or the expectations set by Avalon’s brand. Update: ironically I posted this and as soon as I got back to my apartment turns out my AC unit flooded my floor, the unit below mine’s AC unit flooded their floor, and water is leaking in the restaurant downstairs…smh 🤦🏾‍♂️

(原文) I've lived at the Avalon (now "Esquire") since July of last year and want to provide some very important guidance for future residents. To preface, I will be moving out later this month (September 2025). The building recently sold from Avalon to Bozzuto, which was a rather messy transition that has left a bad taste in my mouth. I was charged a late notice fee for my notice to vacate because Bozzuto's portal was late in coming online, and because their leasing staff was unresponsive to my phone calls and emails. They said they were "busy." Regardless of my individual experience, I want to highlight some positives and negatives of my time here: The Positives: 1. The building itself (common areas, exterior, rooftop) are actually quite nice. The building did a facade upgrade last year and roof construction which turned out quite nice. The gym and common areas are generally in good repair, and the gym equipment is almost never broken. If it is, or if the gym is too small, there's a PF down the street. 2. The concierges have been very considerate and understanding. Whenever I leave for longer than a few days, they make sure my mail is put aside. However, I can really only speak for the Avalon staff. They were let go when the building sold to Bozzuto, but so far, my experience has been fine with the new staff. 3. The package room is crowded, but somewhat efficient. I've never lost a package in there, and the locker system is nice (though be aware only some Amazon packages go in that locker, others go on floor-based shelves). The negatives: 1. Conservice. Love it or hate it, but this building has expensive utilities. Expect to pay over $100 for a small one-bedroom (think 600 square feet). I put one trash bag in the chute per week and routinely paid over $40 a month for trash. Hysterical. 2. Mail. The mail routinely comes late here, with the postal officials generally delivering mail from 5-6pm, some days later. If you're waiting on an important envelope, expect to wait. 3. Leasing staff. The Avalon leasing staff were good, but the Bozzuto staff is terrible. Seriously, the worst leasing office I've ever engaged with. I called over 15 times one week with assurances someone would "email me back" or "get back to me," but these were hollow promises. If you want a friendly leasing staff that helps you once you move in, don't look here. This doesn't apply to the concierges though, like I said, they're a strong point of the building. 4. THE ELEVATORS. This is the worst part of this building. They have been broken CONSTANTLY. In fact, the passenger elevator was out of service for nearly 5 months before being fixed. The other day, I had to walk up 11 flights of stairs because both elevators were out. For $2500 per month in rent, this is unacceptable. No alternatives were offered to residents. I hope this was helpful.

(原文) I was awestruck by this campground! I've been camping for 60 years so I've seen all kinds of campgrounds, restrooms, etc. This campground is beautiful! There was a huge mountain laurel right in our campsite, and the campsite was large enough to put 3 big tents on, plus extra room to move around. The restrooms are a little dated, but they were very clean and well-maintained. The showers were nice and hot. We stayed in site C86 and I would stay in that same spot if I ever visit DC again. The campground was very quiet, but we could hear noise in the background such as the occasional airplane or helicopter, and occasional loud vehicle. That just reminded us that we were in the city and not the mountains (we live near the Smokies). It was a short trip to the Metro station with not much traffic involved, and we got all-day passes for just under $14 each plus the parking fee in the Metro lot ($10 per day). The only real traffic we encountered was on our way into DC and on our way out. I can't recommend this overnight option enough for those who like camping. At $20 per night, it's pretty much a no-brainer for accommodations while visiting DC. It cost more to board my dog for the week than it did to accommodate 4 adults!

The camp spots are alright; we stayed at B46 once and later at B78. Those on the outskirts of the loop are definitely quieter, but they’re farther from the bathrooms. (原文) Hains Point in East Potomac Park is a hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing in Washington, D.C. During peak bloom, the 4.1-mile loop trail offers a serene and picturesque setting, adorned with a variety of cherry trees, including the vibrant Kwanzan and delicate Okame species. The trail provides stunning views of the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, as well as the Washington Channel, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful walk or bike ride amidst the blossoms. Unlike the bustling Tidal Basin, Hains Point remains relatively uncrowded, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the blooming trees without the distractions of large crowds. The area also features ample parking, picnic spots, and recreational facilities, making it an ideal location for a leisurely day out during the cherry blossom season.

We then went to lot B next door and there were plenty of spots. However, I will say when we got back to the car as the 3 hr limit was approaching, lot B seemed quite full as well. I'd assume being the closest that this lot always fills up first so it's not necessarily the best. For example today going to lot B first would have saved more time.

希望我的 ParkWiz 积分到时候还没用完 ;-/ (原文) I’m only giving 3- Stars (Although it’s Probably Not really part of the Garage itself BUT)-Because- I ordered my Parking Pass Through ParkWiz (or maybe it’s Parking Wiz?) I paid ahead of time and it was a fair price and easy to do etc.. UNTIL… Inthe App it Instructs you to Scan your QR Parking Pass Again Upon Leaving… And So I did… or I TRIED. I just so happened to get in a lane that the scanner wasn’t working, so I backed up, got into next lane, Scanned No problem, and Left. BUT- ParkWiz Ended up Charging me TWICE!!! A total of $50-something Dollars!! Somehow The App(or maybe when I scanned it when leaving I dunno)- it EXTENDED my Parking Pass into the NEXT DAY (which I DID NOT DO)- I tried contacting like FIVE different emails and contacts for ParkWiz and Followed all their *Refund* prompts and all that- Took over a WEEK for SOMEONE to finally get back to me And they said the will NOT REFUND my $ because they DONT Refund Extensions-(AGAIN I DID NOT EXTEND IT ;-( )- but could issue me a credit… Which.. I have NO CLUE the next time I’ll be in DC!! I do protest regularly and come to DC as much as I can(I’m only 4hrs away)- But STILL!! I had several screen shots and everything PROVING I did NOT extend the dang parking pass! THAT was frustrating!! BUT- As for the garage itself… At first it was confusing trying to find my way to the top, i thought I got lost and took a wrong turn but somehow ended up at the top anyways (lol) so it all ended up okay. I’m GLAD there was an Elevator To get Into Union Station BUT one of the Elevators (the one that’s SPECIFICALLY says “To Union Station” was broken down which confused me so I took the other one in peanut would take me there-And it did- so it all worked out! It WAS SUPER HOT that day.. (Not the garages fault..just sayin.. PHEW) As many times I’ve been to DC I’ve never drove there (always rode with someone else..) But every thing was easy to find… Directions were easy to follow on GPS- And sure next time I come back (and I’m driving) I will be using Union Station Parking Garage Again. Hopefully my ParkWiz Credit don’t run out by then tho ;-/

Arrived at 5:30AM (a Thursday) for daytrip to NYC, Use the H Street entrance - the signage shows "park" and "rental car return" on the same board, which is a bit confusing, implying a sort of "rental car parking & return" but this is NOT the case; the two topics are separate. We went up only one level and found an empty space - ended up in the station within 5 minutes via the open, well-lit escalator down. Upon return, only one working pay station on the lowest level but one level up there were four, new pay stations. Easy exit. (原文) Damp these forces! It appears my rowboat was blown back down the Potomac by the blousy pantaloons that I left to dry whilst washing the oars in a pot. So where hast fate blown me? This land is rough and untameable, undiscovered like the virginity of a social construct. It bears marks of the primitive cultures that senselessly hewed blocks in the stone over, one must assume, hundreds of millions of generations. How majestically this natural wonder climbs to the heavens, the pitiful extrication of a culture long doomed by the consequences of its young actions and its eagerness to be led by men who thought owning people would never backfire! I am but a humble foreign agent working surreptitiously to advocate for a government that will be amenable to my daddy's many large global businesses, by which of course I mean that I am humble, but even I have learned from Papa that humananity only exists to conquer sites like this. I will do so, in the name of empire and her greatness, no homo! I shall name this natural wonder for the force that brought me here, the Proto-Germanic word for "hole," and the mesmerizing visual hold it has over me, only surpassed by the reflection of Constable I vaguely read in its form: the Watergate Stairs. Tears cloud my shiny vision as my mind harkens back to the fourth-to-last letter I ever intercepted from Constable's mail pile - My love, happy letters spell your visage To life, cultivating your eyes one and A thousand shy rivulets melted from Their source. My love, these split standards command Me e'en thus, they crest me e'er so, somehow When there feed a thousand tresses, your hair Crowned beyond flame and ember, your honeyed Breaths flown of ice and sea, then I will stare Beyond how bright they gleam and find even Your glance, your taste, your sin become heaven.
