A must see along the Hoodoo Trail! We took the Mine Tunnel Hike Tour and our guide Mary was awesome! They answered all our questions and really knew their history! Wished we had had more time to do the other guided tours as well but make sure if Bob is there you stop to learn from him! Such a wonderful gem in the valley we learned so much! We did not buy tickets in advance - got there right at 10 - but would recommend buying in advance if you know you are coming and want to book a specific time for a specific tour - we got lucky and grabbed the last two spots on the mine hike!

You have to have a certain level of fitness (i.e. ability to ascend and descend a fairly steep, long wooden walkway, being able to manoeuvre in slightly confined space). The price point is a bit high. You have to pay to get in and pay again for each tour you choose. I don't know that families would consider this cost-effective. I know that for two of us, it felt kind of expensive. But the site is only open part of the year, it's a little out of the way, and it wouldn't be as big a draw as the Tyrell. The tour was very well presented and the guide was able to answer questions intelligently and enthusiastically. What a truly memorable experience at the East Coulee School Museum. We had our 2 cats in their carriers , so it was great that they allowed us inside with them. This place is a hidden gem, if you are in the Drumheller area. There is so much history in this one place. The classrooms with true stories in those books on the desks , are a grim reminder of what life used to be. The staff mentioned that there have been spooky experiences , but none of them are harmful. We were denied entry at the Atlas Coal mine because of our fur babies and that’s how we found this museum. And we are so glad we did. They also have a cute cafe and a lovely gift shop attached. So me and my nephew came to visit this place to learn some of the history of the area. My nephew is 9 and this was the highlight of our trip to the Drumheller area. It was spectacular! We went mid Aug '25, and the sun was setting as she hopped on the stage around 845pm. The volunteers do a bang up job guiding and organizing hundreds of cars. It can be a mild hike from where you park to the venue, but there were golf carts transporting people with mobility issues. I was not prepared for the mosquitoes. I recommend layering up. It was a warm night, no rain, so I went in a t-shirt. Now, I deserved the ones on my arms, but I could not believe how many of the bloodsucker got me through my socks. I had 11 bites on my right foot alone between my shoe and my pant cuff! Other recommendations - consider a seat cushion to place on the wooden bench. Also, we sat in row H, second row, and we didn't know there was a clearing at the base of this row where people gather to dance. This is one worth sneaking out of the hotel early for! The front nine was very nice, lush and massive trees near a river. Looks easy but anything on the edge you get the big tree limbs goal keeping. The owners, Michael and Devon were super accommodating. Michael was our personal guide through the exhibits, and his passion for their collections was obvious, but also well informed. They also have exhibits from other well known flicks; some of which were filmed in southern Alberta. Of course once the movie started up the line up to the bathroom was still going on and people kept slamming the door closed ,lights on and overall constant noise that was louder than the movie. Turn up the volume on the movie as It was way too low. Also close off the bathroom and have them go downstairs as the bathroom by the ticket window is a constant distraction. You need to hire a theatre usher to help make it a positive experience for the patrons. Only good part of the experience was the popcorn and price. But that’s not enough to have our family come back .
