The cafe overlooking the Abbey entrance gives a nice view of the various foot traffic in and around the town. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the seating is functional if a bit basic. The food is excellent however and everything I have consumed here has been top notch. I have had the sweet chilli wrap which is lovely, with excellent breaded chicken and homemade relish. Also the scotch egg with coleslaw and relish is also lovely though needed a little seasoning. They do seem to run out of things quickly so perhaps go early. Also the hot chocolate and lady grey tea are also lovely.

Best afternoon tea I’ve ever had, and all 9 of us said the same! They are so friendly and helpful, and were so good adapting the menu for vegans and allergies, and everything was so fresh, delicious, flavourful and beautifully presented. The cakes were incredible! They even went the extra mile and gave us decorated “team bride” shortbread and napkins. I cannot rate this place highly enough! The staff are always really lovely. Today, May 16, back in BSE for the weekend, arriving at 1620, I nearly missed out; last orders I learned was at 1615. Oh and I had to extended my parking which was £3.60!

The spice and flavour profile on the loaded fries was certainly up there at my limit. Yes! The sandwiches were both large and well filled, again, with good flavour combinations. The staff checked on us throughout our time, always asked if everything was ok, which it was. They also asked if we were finished before clearing anything away, and were non-stop looking after all of the many customers that were constantly coming in, despite closing time looming. The decor, atmosphere, and general ambience of the cafe was warm and welcoming, with a constant buzz of happy people and music playing in the background. We had two hot, loaded sandwiches, two big bowls of speciality fries, two glasses of wine, and two cokes, all for just over £50. And yes, I even stuffed a note in the side of the tip jar. Not because I felt obliged, or there was one already in there, but because I always tip 10% if, and only if, I think the food and service warrant it. On this occasion, it far than exceeded my expectations, and I'm glad my partner spotted it. I've read the bad reviews and tried to cover the surprising comments using my own experience.
