AND all of the good stuff is always sold out. I am not an early riser, so it makes sense that all of the good pastries are sold out when I get there at noon on a Sunday. That was what appeared to be a cheesecake flavored fillings that was sweet and creamy, paired with a homemade strawberry puree that was a touch of sweet and tart so it wasn't overwhelming but super intense flavor straight from heavens gates! These are dangerous 😂😂😂 once you have one you will fall in love and want to go back daily, glad I live 30 minutes away from them now. 😆😆 I'll be back soon enough when I need another treat! I usually think pies are too unhealthy or what not but had to give this a try on a trip. We really picked the best place to get this by because it was phenomenal! Them a really large variety of pie options. They were available but we were there for that famous to the green pie so had to take that one. Fire was served cold but that was no issue at all. It was perfectly sweet and not too sugary sweet (I didn't usually go for sugary sweet stuff). Creamy and smooth and with a perfectly flaky crust and just overall delicious. It had a creme brulee kind of a topping on top which made it even better. Husband that I open this as soon as we got into the car. Finished it in a matter of minutes and then wanted more. That's how good it was!

Seriously, y'all were so patient as I indecisively mulled over which of the many delicious pie options. We ended up getting a supreme pizza hand pie, and individual slices of the sugar creme brulee and the blackbottom frangipane. My favorite was the creme brulee since I have a sweeter palette but my significant other really liked the frangipane as it was less sweet and had a bit of a kick of salt and depth of flavor. The hand pie was a little different than I was expecting. It was good but definitely for someone who likes cheese on a pizza more than I do, because I love tomato and I was hoping for more of a tomato flavor. I'm going to need to come back to try the other pies as well as get one of the take-home and bake pies as those seem to be more of the savory hearty variety. Check out these photos!

Creme brule pie was not sweet at all and the top was completely burnt. The Shoofly pie was probably the nastiest thing I have ever eaten and the oatmeal cream pie tasted like an oatmeal cookie with a glob of butter in the middle. The cream had no sweetness at all. We drove over 100 miles to try this place because of TikTok and will never do this again. Update : we also got a frozen to go Mac and cheese pie. To continue on the disappointment journey. I stopped in today because I saw the crusts of pots & pans’ pies briefly on social media and it’s not every day you see a crust that has that volume and shine and looks that golden brown. I had to try. It has been a year since I had this epiphany and only stopped in today, 11/16/2025. I’m upset that I haven’t tried sooner. First, I had the most easygoing welcoming experience. No pressure, just able to browse. There was someone stocking the pies and typically I don’t want to be in anyone’s way so I rush to get what I want and get out. But not this time just so happens because I wanted to see all the offerings, read the ingredient list, etc. The person stocking was so kind, so gracious, and very affirming of the options I had already picked. She had me go with the green hatch chili take-and-bake pie and I am endlessly grateful I did. It was spicy but well balanced and full of hearty veggies, warm spices, and plenty of protein. Just beyond impressed. It felt like a warm hug! And the crust—dexterous enough to be mixed in with the filling and not lose its texture or flavor—it was insanely delicious. It definitely feels like a mom and pop shop...which it is. Ordering ahead was recommended in the many reviews we read, but we didn't do that. We waited in-line and enjoyed the anticipation with the rest of the friendly customers. We bought way too much. The pastries were beautiful and large. My wife said the croissants are the real deal. The cheese scone was actually both of our favorites. I was a little disappointed by the sweet ones, but seems like that is just personal preference or maybe just because the hype was so high. We got the shrimp cocktail to start which was great but expensive for 4 shrimp. It packed quite the punch with the amount of horseradish. The fried chicken slider was basic but what I expected. The French onion soup was well balanced and one of the best I've had. The star of the show was the lobster sacchetti which was split between 2 people. The sauce was nice and creamy with just the right amount of lobster flavor. It was all very filling so we skipped dessert. It was a pretty casual atmosphere with most people in sports gear of shorts and t shirts at 5:00 on a Saturday.

Amazing experience for us out of towners. It wasn't too busy on a Friday night. It's even less likely that I leave a review that's overwhelming positive in every single aspect of my visit. Not only is the decor of the restaurant really cool to look at there's also a history here. As far as food goes I got the Jaegerschnitzel. It comes with the soup of the day as well as bread service. The soup was a creamy tomato and I'll be daamed if I don't try to find the recipe somewhere it was that good. The "bread" service was a big soft pretzel and a spicy mustard. The mustard was really spicy but really good so use sparingly. The mushroom sauce on top of the Schnitzel was to die for. Not only that but the Schnitzel itself was very flavorful and light. The "accompaniments" that I got were the German Potato Salad and the Spaetzle Noodles. The potato salad was a sweet flavor and very delicious. It was an unexpected flavor but very welcomed. The Noodles were very interesting. From what I could taste they reminded me of really good dumplings. I did indulge in a beer when I went. It was the "Warsteiner Isenbeck" a Stout beer. It was really easy to drink and had a great flavor as well. I'd highly recommend. I went for two deserts for me and my partner to share. The first was the Apple Strudel Alamode. It needs every piece of this plate to make itself work but it's very light and very good. The other was the Rathskeller Bread Pudding. I have few words other than perfection. This last light and not overly sweet. I loved every bite. The last and most important part of this entire experience was our server. Michael who was are bartender/server was an experience. One of the best servers I've ever had it's not hard to see why he's been here for 20 years. I was happy talking with him and he made our experience all that more special. Will I be back? Birthday celebration was handled festively, but not excessively. Got the six course tasting menu and wine pairing, it was incredible. This was a long expensive meal but worth it (3.5 hrs, $500+). I was introduced to the Vanilla Bean Bakery by our receptionist while I was spending time in our Indy office a few years back and they had catered in some holiday treats. As our food arrived we were told that they were out of cinnamon rolls but presented not one but two complimentary replacements. Their pumpkin chocolate chip Basque cheesecake, and chocolate croissant big enough for two. My child was so looking forward to the cinnamon roll, but her face lit up at the sight of both items. It absolutely made her day. Our brunch was lovely, and Olivia was the perfect server. So calm and attentive. Even noticing that my daughter's chai was not being consumed and offered sweetener. A welcome change from so much of the city. I will gladly continue to come out from the south side, winding along 16th street to Speedway to grab more of their beautiful pastries and cold case offerings. They are doing it right over there. He was so friendly toward us and our combined 5 kids and chaos that comes with that. He noticed that I hadn’t eaten much of my food, not that it wasn’t good, just too spicy for me. I’m a spice wimp. He offered twice to get me something else to eat. I declined the first time, because I’m not one to complain or send things back. When he came back and asked again, I went ahead and got something else because I’m a nursing mom and started to worry that it might cause tummy troubles for my baby later. He said, “I just want you to leave happy with a full belly.” I left with exactly that. He also shared that he has two young kids of his own and knows how hard it is to get to enjoy a hot meal as a parent to littles. Our kids loved interacting with him and he made us feel seen and not like a burden. The food, chai, and cinnamon roll that my kids devoured were all amazing. But the service stood out most to me. With food, a warm inviting environment, and service like that, I know this place will continue to do well. We will definitely be back!

The parking lot is small and shared with another business but I was easily able to find street parking so there wasn't an issue. I just wanted a small 6-inch white cutting cake and then a few sheet cakes.
