It was an completely different vibe and was extremely unwelcoming compared to the Stratford store where we have received exceptional service in the past and have even been offered drinks.

It is a National Trust site, so is free to members, although booking in advance is a must! Built in 1801 the guide will talk you through all of their history, from time of first occupation, up to the 1970s. The tour takes round about one and a half hours. There are many steep and narrow staircases, so not recommended for anyone who are not too steady on their feet. I was amazed at how people lived back then. So tough, and very hard work on a day to day basis. Incredible when you compare it to todays luxuries we all take for granted. Wasn't all bad though. Our guide John was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and happy to answer any amount of questions. I loved it!

The best National Trust we have visited, and we have visited many. The thing that made this so special was our tour guide Neil. He gave great passionate knowledgeable descriptions in every single room and made the experience come to life. I was cautious of a 90 minute tour with an eight year-old. However, the information that Neil gave kept her entertained and to be honest it felt like a 45 minute tour at most. Since visiting back to back, I have recommended this to simply everybody I know. This is obviously a sign of how much I enjoyed it, but also how much it’s surpassed all of our expectations. Well done to the National Trust team here, including all of the volunteers.

They also lied and stated they didnt receive iur media with timings i jad sent via email and instead I had to send them everything again minutes before the event started and then explain timings to change slides etc. This delayed the event for over 30 minutes and ruined entire programme. They never refunded me or even apologise. Never again.

The outside is an ugly mixture of unkempt functional architecture and brash, upbeat marketing decorations. Both the front and back entrance are not welcoming spaces, the latter from the car parks being quite narrow. A little too much so as the entire place lacks character or atmosphere leading to a sterile feeling. Display areas, even for the same exhibition, can spread out and one is in the small café making it awkward to see. Small corridors are also used not allowing the viewer to stand back from the display. The gift shop is stupidly expensive easily beating some London museums in pricing. The goods and books seem aimed at serious arty types and, although I'm one, I still wouldn't pay £7 for a fridge magnet. Parking can be a nightmare if there's more than one event on and impossible if there's a match at neighbouring Edgbaston Cricket ground. Be aware that the parking area is split into two so make sure you pay at the right pay station for where you've left your car. RingGo app works works well here though.

Original cobbles cause difficulties for those of us with mobility issues (I changed shoes 3 times) but fortunately found a small car park with a single disabled parking spot (!) on Gibb Street itself. Suggest checking parking prior to arriving in the area, a mix of narrow 1-way streets, broader streets with on-street parking, & larger car parks a little further from the centre. The Custard Factory itself wasn't open. A shame as I'd have loved to explore the history of the area further.

It's a great space for showcasing arts to all audiences and I particularly like the immersive nature of the experience.
