Mt Erciyes is a 12,851-foot peak renowned for its ski resort and hiking and mountaineering opportunities. The mountain boasts of an incredible skiing experience at a reasonable price with plenty of slopes to explore. Weekdays are the best times to visit as it's less crowded. It's highly recommended to visit in February for more snow and fewer stones. The skiing area spans an impressive 102 km length of slopes, making it one of the finest skiing destinations near Kayseri.
Really nice hiking in the area.
Patrik T — Google review
Either the special permission paper or guide is required to get to the top of the mountain. You can get the permission at the office "Melikgazi Kaymakamliği" located in the nearby city Kayseri. Otherwise you are not allowed to climb to the top. There is no specific information about permissions on the internet that is why I am sharing with you the personal experience. The information was provided by the local police station located at the bottom of mountain. They were very helpful. Good luck!

Wow, what a change in scenery! We are now in Cappadocia, a 1.5hr flight, east of Istanbul. A reasonably early start, then bus / plane / bus ... and we arrive. I cannot start to describe the landscape (refer photos I guess) it is so unique. Located south of Mount Erciyes, the region is known for its curious volcanic landscape and by the people who have lived here for centuries.
Norm P — Google review
Mount Erciyes is a majestic mountain with a maximum elevation of about 3,900 meters. You can see the mountain from many points in Kayseri. It is the highest mountain in Central Anatolia.
Ahmed A — Google review
You can not climb this mountain without a special permit
Adi J — Google review
Erciyas Mountain is around 25 mins drive from Kayseri. Road accessibility is very good. It's the best place for skiers
Aftab N — Google review
Great skiing experience at a very small price. More than enough slopes and there is hardly anyone there if you go in the week. Would definitely recommend.
Mehmet D — Google review
Mountain & Volcano with ski resort & hiking areas. As for January 2021 there is not so much snow, only 20% of slopes are opened to ski, and since there is a quarantine, so nothing works every Saturday-Monday, but in “normal times” with enough snow the views & the spot is fabulous to experience. The best way to reach is by car, since there are shuttles from Kayseri, but not too often and with long waiting time at many hotels in the city and 3 stop near the Ski Resort. The Mountain has different view from different sides: I was from Erciyes Ski Resort, but it is highly recommended the view from Develi town too.

Forum Kayseri Shopping Center

Mentioned on

Shopping mall
Shopping
The Forum Kayseri Shopping Center is a bustling mall that features numerous popular chain stores selling fashion, electronics and other goods. Additionally, it boasts a food court where visitors can enjoy a variety of dining options and a movie theater for entertainment purposes. This shopping center offers an array of shopping and leisure activities all under one roof.
Within three weeks staying in Kayseri, I found here the largest shopping center over the city. Turkish people call it, AVM ( AlışVeriş Merkezi). Interestingly, the prices are affordable as well rather than other cities that i have visited. It is really a large center u can find whatever product and brands you want.
Bassir ع — Google review
A very nice shopping mall in the city center. It is a great relief from the heat during hot summer days.
Ahmed A — Google review
Forum Kayseri: A Comprehensive Shopping Destination Forum Kayseri undeniably stands as Kayseri's premier shopping mall. Its prime location in the heart of the city, coupled with its expansive size, makes it a convenient and attractive destination for locals and visitors alike. The mall houses a diverse range of both national and international brands, ensuring there's something to cater to every taste and budget. Fashion enthusiasts will find themselves spoilt for choice with stores like LC Waikiki, FLO, Boyner, and DeFacto, while the mall's other offerings extend to electronics, home goods, and more. A particular highlight is the mall's extensive food court. Offering a tantalizing array of both local and international cuisines, it's the perfect spot to refuel after a shopping spree or to enjoy a leisurely meal with friends and family. While Forum Kayseri undoubtedly excels in providing a comprehensive shopping experience, it's worth noting that the mall can become quite crowded during peak shopping hours. Nevertheless, its efficient layout and ample parking facilities help to mitigate any potential inconveniences. Overall, Forum Kayseri is a must-visit for anyone exploring Kayseri. Its combination of retail therapy, dining options, and convenient location make it a standout shopping destination in the city.

One of the best malls in Kayseri. There are many Turkish and international brands. In the restaurants section on the top floor, there are many delicious foods.

It’s just a mall! But you can take a cool picture outside! Now I will say it’s much Bigger than expected. If you are traveling and need something this is the best place to look for it (you’ll have a bigger opportunity of finding it).

Ballıca Natural Park

National reserve
Nature & Parks
Comprising 7 levels, this 3.4 million-year-old cave features dramatic stalactite and stalagmites.
Ballıca Cave, also known as İndere, is a cave located in the Ballıca village of Tokat, in the Black Sea Region. The formation of Ballıca Cave, which is estimated to have begun approximately 3.4 million years ago, is approximately 680 meters long and 90 to 94 meters high. Entrance fee: 60 lira for adults, 30 lira for students

Ballica Natural Park is beautifully located and known for its fascinating, fairly large caves. The rock formations are truly stunning – perfect for nature and geology lovers. Since the number of daily visitors is limited, it’s a good idea to book tickets in advance. A memorable place that’s definitely worth a visit!
Kasia Z — Google review
There is a very big underground cave and nature park here. Both are a definite must see. The cave is 650 meters long and there are amazing rock formations inside. Nature park has breathtaking views of the land. Admission is very cheap. 9 TL. If you are in the area, this is a must see.
Berk C — Google review
Viewing the formations in the Ballıca Cave is like visiting a natural museum. The age of the cave is nearly 3.4 million years old. Walking in the cave is a mysterious adventure. It is a place where all cave formations can be seen and is a wonder of nature. This cave has not yet even finished its formation. The Ballıca also helped those suffering from asthma due to its healing air. The oxygen level in the cave is more than the level outside. This is important for people with asthma, who may find the cure here.
Cesare B — Google review
The Ballica Cave is one of the most well-known tourist attractions of Tokat. I strongly recommend here. It is a large and very impressive cave. Do not miss this natural.park.

Great, clean air in the cave
Burhan B — Google review
It is 7 kilometers south of Pazar District Center and approximately 1 kilometer southeast of Ballıca Village. Ballıca Cave, whose age is determined as 3.4 million years, has a special position among its counterparts in the world. The entrance to the cave on the slope of a high, semi-rocky hill is provided through a partially smoothed bedrock block. Ballıca Cave, which was opened to visitors in 1996 with lighting, walking paths and viewing terraces, has a surface area of 10 thousand square meters. The most important characteristic feature of the cave, whose visible part is 94 meters high, is that it has "onion stalactite" formations. Another important feature of the cave is the presence of dwarf bats living in colonies.

Very cool indeed. This is an ancient shopping plaza. Lol. It is 500 years old but now is filled with coffee shops. Good place to sit under the sun and have a soft drink. There are a variety of stores also but all are expensive tourist traps. Worth seeing definitely, but probably not ideal for shopping. May be souvenirs.

Our visit to Barshamba Highlands was unforgettable, feeling truly like paradise on earth. The breathtaking landscapes, fresh air, and pleasant weather made the trip a wonderful and special time for all of us. We felt as if we were in Switzerland, surrounded by the stunning mountains and the beauty of nature. We had a great time exploring the mountain villages and terraced farms, enjoying the peace and calm away from the city noise. There is a lovely park suitable for cooking and picnics, where we enjoyed spending quality time together and preparing meals amidst the beautiful natural surroundings. This place left a deep impression on us, and I will definitely return many times in the future. I highly recommend everyone visit Barshamba Highlands to experience a unique blend of natural beauty and rich AYBASTI culture.

Beautiful green carpeted hills. A very vast landscape with awesome views. There is a lake that has a walkway. Can see shephards moving their herd in the distance. Road to it is great well paved. There are lots of places to eat and buy souvenirs. Fresh crisp air and very windy. Make sure to go on a clear day otherwise it'll be cloudy and you won't be able to see anything. Toilets are paid and disgusting, would be better to go to ones in the eateries. Would definitely visit again.

Great Mosque and Hospital of Divrigi

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
This mosque & hospital complex was built in the 13th century & features stone carvings.
We made a detour to Divrigi to see the mosque and hospital, not knowing if it could be visited after the restoration work. Both the mosque and the hospital can be visited inside now and they are simply magnificent. The level of detail of the mosque gates is incredible, it is a work of art. The inside of the hospital is also very well restored and lightning truly makes it stand out. Well worth it. The town itself is also very welcoming. We had a great half day here.
Lisa H — Google review
Magnificent mosque with intricately carved doors. A must see.
Michele F — Google review
Simply incredible! So many hidden meanings in the details of the mosque and the stunning beauty of almost perfection as perfection is reserved for only god. Really beautiful carvings in the stone and peaceful surroundings. Felt special being there
Patryk J — Google review
We made a detour to Divrigi just because of the Great Mosque and Hospital. We learnt that it was re-open a few weeks ago after 8 years of restoration. It was totally worth it! Unfortunately, the hospital is still in restoration, so it is not open yet. But the mosque itself is worth a visit. The security guard was very nice and he tried to explain the history and key facts to us through google translate. Make sure you catch the shadow of the man reading the quran at the exit portal 3pm-4pm in summer time. In the early morning, there is a woman shadow at the portal at the Mosque's entrance too. The hotels in Divrigi may charge more for foreigners, so we camped at the ridge behind the Great Mosque for a night. For those who bought a tent with them, you may consider camping as an option.

Amazing Mosque and hospital with serene water fountain. It was built in 1228–1229. Ouijdane had honour of singing here. Located centre east of Turkey, 2 hours drive from Sivas. A hidden gem. We also drove to the top of the mountain next to mosque and walked on the glass with mountain drop underneath. Luckily the glass is strong and does not shatter ir it is a long fall down the mountain!

The Great Mosque is under a major renovation for few years and will be for few more years. Still can see the doors from our side platform, but that is it, nothing else is accesible.

Nestled just a 15-minute drive from the stunning Mavigol Kuzalan Falls, Kulakkaya Yaylası Giresun is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. The journey to this enchanting plateau takes you through lush, misty forests and towering mountains, making it an ideal escape on a hot July day.
15 min drive on a freshly paved road from Mavigöl Kuzalan Falls. It is an amazing place. The road is beautiful passes through dark misty forests and tall mountains. Ofcourse a cooler place on hot July day. We were going to Mavigöl and our accommodation host recommended this place as a must see. The place seems newly devloped and has good places for food, coffee/tea. There are also clean public toilets. The place seems untouched by tourists at the moment, a much better place than Ayder.

I had the best experience in this small tourist village. The weather is excellent in Summer, except the sun sets early and there are showers around the evening time. No night life, but amazing nature and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended for those who want to relax in nature.

We ate at Kulakkaya Aile Sofrasi which is a family owned and operated restaurant. Try Sirgan Soup, mushroom sauté, Corn Bread and Meat Balls. Decent prices and good quality.

Amazing waterfall! I’m not impressed by waterfalls after visiting Iceland, but this one is definitely worth your attention. It touched me very much. Small streams of water cover the rocks, it is very cool here even in hot weather. A lot if restaurants around so you can seat and enjoy the day nearby. And also the road to waterfall is very beautiful.

Sümela Monastery

Mentioned on

Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
Sümela Monastery, located to the east of Trabzon, is a historic site with a museum showcasing religious history dating back to the 4th century A.D. The monastery, situated high up in the mountains, offers breathtaking views and a unique landscape. While entrance fees for foreigners have been criticized as being unreasonably high, the site's well-preserved frescos, old library rooms, and prayer rooms make it a must-visit attraction.
Finally got the chance to visit this stunning historical place. The place attracts so many tourists so get ready for a really busy area. You cannot enter with your car, but only with the shuttle managed by the site itself. The ticket price is 70 Turkish lira per person. Once you reach there you have to get ready for a long stairs to reach the ticket office. Definitely I will not recommend it for elder people or people with low fitness and children under eight years. It is located in the mountain with an elevation of more than 1000 m. Breathtaking views during the journey to the monastery. Classified as one of the most important historic venues in Trabzon.
N A — Google review
I highly recommend visiting Sümela Monastery — it’s one of the most impressive historical places in the Black Sea region. The entrance ticket to the monastery itself is 20€, and it’s absolutely worth it. There is a long staircase to reach the top, so be prepared for some climbing, but once you arrive, the view is breathtaking. The monastery is built inside a cliff, and the atmosphere is magical — you can take amazing photos of the nature, the fog, and the mountains surrounding the site. If you love history, architecture, and dramatic landscapes, this place is a must-see. Totally worth the effort and the time! 🌿
Sumaya A — Google review
Amazing place so glad to finally make it here! The weather wasn't good but it thinned out the crowds which we appreciated. Unbelievable story and impressive building skills in such a remote place. The surrounding Park is beautiful as well. The only negative impression is pay to park then pay to use the restroom then pay to enter the monastery. 1 price please.
Robert Q — Google review
Remarkable achievement—best appreciated from multiple viewpoints Sumela Monastery is genuinely impressive, particularly when you consider the engineering feat of building such comprehensive quarters into a cliff face centuries ago. The scale and ambition of the construction is what really stands out. What Makes It Special: - The real beauty is in viewing it from a distance—seeing the whole structure clinging to the mountainside puts the achievement in perspective - Inside, peer out from the windows in the quarters—the views and sense of exposure are striking - Don't skip the detour to Aya Varvara Kilisesi nearby—it offers an awesome distant view of the monastery and is just 70m at the entrance Practical Tips: - Lots of stairs and uneven surfaces—watch your footing and take it slow - The site itself requires careful navigation; not a place to rush through - The combination of close-up exploration and distant viewpoints gives you the full picture Why 5 Stars: Understanding what it took to build and maintain this place centuries ago, in this location, makes the visit worthwhile. The engineering and logistics alone are mind-boggling. See it from afar, explore it up close, then step back again—that's when it clicks. Well worth the trip to the Trabzon.
Jun S — Google review
Beautiful monastery, built in 4th century. No amount of words can explain the beauty of the location and the detailed workmanship that went into building this place. The walk to monastery is short but steep, however the views along the way are worth the effort. It's definitely a great place to visit. It does get crowded pretty quickly as large groups visit it
Haaris A — Google review
That experience was a life time experience. I had seen photos before, but it was a hidden gem. When you climb all the stairs to see a monks city, very well preserved was very exciting. Highly recommended experience. My favorite part was to see the church, but very sad to see the murals were destroyed by the first visitors. Seeing all the priest rooms, the kitchen, the library made me to understand the life style of the monks that lived there for many years. The monastery is placed in an amazing nature that takes your breath away.
Selin G — Google review
Magic place in the mountains! As we climbed up the mystic music was echoing from hill to hill. I am posting some photos. The monastery has a special energy and well preserved history of the early Christianity. At the bottom – Altun River (The golden River, which still has some gold.) One of the most mysterious places I have visited! Go see the magic!

Bodies of Water
Uzungöl is a stunning lake nestled in a mountain valley, featuring a charming village with hotels and shops. It's easily accessible from Trabzon, taking around 2.5 hours by car. While it's not recommended to visit during winter due to accessibility issues and many closed shops, the summer offers breathtaking views and pleasant weather. Visitors suggest booking accommodations in advance and bringing supplies from outside the area as things can be expensive with limited services.
It’s a beautiful place, but only for a short visit. I don’t recommend eating in the area—the quality is poor and the prices are extremely high. It’s worth visiting just for the experience; it feels like being in an Arab country.
Mariya — Google review
Uzungol lake is very pretty, surrounded by many halal restaurants and hotels to stay in. You even go glamping around, do some hikes in the area or take a long drive around. There are many picnic places on the way so you can stop on your way and enjoy a little picnic
Shiza S — Google review
Uzungöl is a priceless natural wonder located in the heart of the Black Sea region, about 100 km away from Trabzon, in the district of Çaykara. Nestled in a valley where you can see every shade of green, surrounded by high mountains, the lake looks like a painting. On misty mornings, a light fog drifts over the lake, and as the day breaks it transforms into pure tranquility — truly the capital of peace and serenity. The lake is surrounded by lush forests, and the walking paths around it are both easy and scenic, perfect for nature lovers. The little wooden houses, local restaurants, and shops create a warm, village-like atmosphere within this natural setting. In short, it’s an ideal spot to escape the city and breathe fresh air. However, like a shadow over its beauty, there’s also the issue of “concrete development.” In 2008, a concrete wall was built along the shore, which some environmentalists criticize as a disruption of its natural charm. This has also contributed to the problem of “overtourism.” New buildings and touristic facilities risk damaging the organic character of the place, and unfortunately, this can affect the visitor experience. Still, despite these small criticisms, what makes Uzungöl special is the authentic experience it offers with its nature, silence, and local character. In summer, it’s ideal for picnics and walks; in winter, covered in snow, it turns into a magical landscape. Nearby, you can also visit Sultan Murad Plateau, Ataköy Waterfall, and Demirkapı Plateau, which add even more richness to your trip. In conclusion, Uzungöl is impressive both in photographs and in real life. It’s a place where you can connect with the peaceful face of nature and lose yourself in its pure beauty. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. But it’s also important that we all take responsibility, even in small ways, to protect the sustainability of this unique area.
Maksut C — Google review
Uzungöl Lake is absolutely stunning — surrounded by lush green mountains with mist often drifting over the water, creating a magical atmosphere. Perfect for photos, peaceful walks, and relaxing in nature. Cafés and small restaurants around add charm, but it can get crowded during peak season. A must-visit in Trabzon!
Amr W — Google review
Uzungöl is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited in Turkey. The lake surrounded by high mountains and green forests feels like a completely different world. The air is fresh, the nature is peaceful, and the scenery is simply breathtaking. In the early morning, the mist over the lake creates a magical atmosphere that’s hard to describe in words. There are many nice walking paths, photo spots, and cozy places to enjoy traditional tea by the lake. There are plenty of restaurants around and the prices are reasonable. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway, a family trip, or even solo travel. If you’re in Trabzon or anywhere in the Black Sea region, Uzungöl is definitely a place you must visit! 🌿✨

08/08/2025 This place is one of the most beautiful places I've visited in my whole life. I went there in August and the weather was perfect. Make sure to wear something warm. Ask your driver to take you to the waterfall on your way there. When you get to the lake you can rent a bike for 10 lira/hour, or you can ride a boat for approximately 50 lira/20 minuets, and there is the parachute too, but it's expensive if you're with a big group (500 lira per person). I highly recommend going there especially if you're with your friends and have no babies.

Nestled in the heart of Erzurum, Yakutiye Madrasa is a stunning 14th-century structure that has been transformed into the Turkish-Islamic Art and Ethnography Museum. Originally built in 1310 by Sultan Olcayto of the Ilkhanid dynasty, this architectural gem showcases classic Seljuk design with its grand portal embellished with intricate stone carvings and captivating geometric and floral patterns.

It’s an interesting old madrasa. The fee is 3Euros for foreigners. The main hall is big, and very ornate. There are display rooms around the sides of the main hall, however the doors are very small. It’s worth a visit for a look back at the culture.
Richard K — Google review
A truly amazing building in the middle of the city. It’s 3 Euros to enter for tourists but definitely worth it. It’s also like a museum inside with lots on display. The outside area is also really nice to just sit and enjoy the beauty.
S A — Google review
Yakutiye Madrasah was built in 1310 by Hoca Yakut Gazani in the name of Gazan Khan and Bolugan Hatun during the reign of the Ilkhanate ruler Sultan Olcayto. Yakutiye Madrasah, the largest of the madrasahs with a closed courtyard in Anatolia, is one of the most magnificent structures in Erzurum with its plan layout, balanced architecture and large motif decorations. The crown gate of the structure protrudes from the façade. The middle section of the rectangular courtyard in the four-iwan interior is covered with a muqarnas dome and the other sections are covered with barrel vaults with pointed arches. On the side surfaces of the crown gate, leopard and eagle motifs draw attention in niches surrounded by molded arches. The tree of life, consisting of palm leaves coming out of an openwork sphere, two leopard and eagle figures, brings together important symbols of the Central Asian Turks. The decorations covering every side of the crown gate with its low arches and carvings create a magnificent view.
Asilbek M — Google review
Very distinguished from the rest of the architecture style in Anatolia as a whole. It has thick tower, unless lots of towers in rest of Anatolia. And its tower is only one too, added to its uniqueness from the rest.
Muhammad L — Google review
Yakutiye Madrasa in Erzurum is a captivating example of Seljuk architecture, built in 1310. This historic site showcases intricate stone carvings, particularly on its impressive portal, which features beautiful geometric patterns and Islamic calligraphy. The madrasa’s rectangular courtyard, surrounded by iwans, creates a peaceful and reflective atmosphere, offering visitors a glimpse into the grandeur of Islamic education and art from the Ilkhanid period. The central dome and the craftsmanship throughout make Yakutiye Madrasa a must-see for anyone interested in history, architecture, and culture.

Entrance fee: 20TL (Sept2022) If you are Museum card holder it is free. This place wasn't on my list to see but some how I saw the beautiful tower from far away and started walking here. I was amazed by the beauty of it. Inside you can find artifacts from Seljuks and Ottomans. Medrese means educational institution. So there classrooms inside, they are now display area for the historical artifacts. The reason the doors are so low is the enter the room bowing for paying respect for the people inside.

The Double Minaret Madrasa, a stunning example of 13th-century Seljuk architecture, stands as one of Erzurum's most remarkable landmarks. This impressive structure features two soaring fluted minarets adorned with vibrant blue tiles that catch the eye from afar. The intricately carved main portal leads visitors into a serene courtyard lined with columns, where a grand 12-sided domed hall awaits at the end—believed to be the resting place of the madrasa's founder.
It is a wonderful building that smells of history. It is amazing that it is used as an educational center and the structure inside is still preserved. It is impossible not to be impressed.

Twin Minaret Madrasa The Twin Minaret Madrasa, located in Erzurum, Turkey, is a historic Seljuk structure built in the 13th century. It is believed to have been commissioned by Hundi Hatun in 1253 during the Ilkhanate period. It takes its name from the two magnificent minarets above the entrance. The madrasa is one of the most important examples of Seljuk architecture in Anatolia and is notable for its stonework. Originally used as an educational center, the building now serves as a museum. Beautiful place although I wish they could explain more about the building, the different figures and symbols that you see in the main entrance and inside the building. At night is also very beautiful but they need to provide more information on the building. There is no entry fee and they are closed on Monday.
JR S — Google review
Those 26-meter minarets are the stars here. Slender yet imposing, their layered brickwork feels graceful, while bands of blue, green, and sienna tiles—studded with geometric stars and flowers—glow even on gray days. Up close, the left minaret’s base wows with twisted vines and tiny rosettes, carving patterns that flow into its curve. The right has a sharper spire, the left a softer slope, balancing perfectly. I circled them for 10 minutes, snapping shots—their look shifts with light, from bold to mysterious. Not just tall—true art.

Nestled in the stunning mountains of Arhavi, Mençuna Konakları offers a serene escape just moments away from the breathtaking Mençuna Waterfall. This natural wonder cascades nearly 100 meters and is particularly spectacular during the spring months when water flow peaks. Guests can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi while soaking in panoramic views from the terrace or wandering through lush gardens.
The pictures don't do the waterfall credit really. It is a wonderful waterfall and a must see if you are in the area. The road is a bit tricky and can be daunting at times especially when there is another car returning back. We went in May so there was plenty of parking space available. You have to cross a foot bridge to get to the other side of the river. Then it's a long climb into the mountains. It's not easy and you have to be fit, definitely not for the elderly and kids may complain, but it' all worth it when you arrive at the waterfall. What a fantastic view.

Amazing waterfall views from the 2nd floor bunglow style house. Sleeping with the water and nature sounds felt so peaceful and amazing. Two bedrooms and a toilet/shower with balcony to enjoy drinks watching the river and the waterfall. We walked up to the top of the mountain where there is a small teashop ,totally worth the climb to enjoy the amazing views. There is a car park outside the hotel, owners were available 24/7 very friendly and helpful local people, beds were comfy, rooms sparkling clean, shower with hot and cold water , nearby vadi restaurant served homemade fresh local food. Overall this was such a great experience worth coming back for sure. If you love nature and want a peaceful retreat, look no further.

One of the most beautiful waterfalls of Turkey with a dropping height of almost 100 meters. Water volume is at its peak during April, May although it is remarkable even in dry summer. Could reach after a walk of about 750 meters from where you park your vehicle at Kamilet Valley. Don't forget to have a bath in its small pool just under the falls and enjoy the real piping blodred Blacksea tea before and after your climb to Mençuna. Must see place if you are in the region. Don't miss it...

The place is understaffed. No electricity in the morning therefore no internet and no warm water. The host is rude. The room they gave us was a small cabin next to kitchen which was loud all night and so small that toilet is 1 meter away from bed. Best would be to stay in arahvi and visit the area as a day trip. This place is not worth the money.

The park boasts stunning landscapes, serene lakes, and verdant forests, making it an ideal destination for hiking, picnicking, and nature photography. Nice place. Recommended. There is a small entrance fee

A heaven on earth 🌎, we took mini busses from Artvin, and we went for like an hour on the mountains. Up there many people are camping and there is a cafe and restaurant where you can buy whatever you need, it's a little bit expensive from the normal prices but not that much. Fishing in the lake is not allowed but you can book a tour with a small boat very nice place wish a wonderful relaxing view

Stone Arch Bridge of Makhuntseti

The Stone Arch Bridge of Makhuntseti is a historic stone-arched bridge situated in the highlands of Adjara, Georgia. Spanning the river Adjaristskali, it stands 54 meters away from the Batumi-Khulo road and features natural rock piers. Constructed with volcanic stone and mortar, the bridge underwent complete reconstruction in 2008.
A beautiful example of classic building methods in Sakartvelo. Amazing to see and not far from the road that leads to the waterfall. Stop and take pictures and stay to watch the river flow through the mountains.
Stephanie R — Google review
It's nice to see a bridge that is several years old, but I don't know that it would be worth extra to visit. If you want to see it, go in the morning! In the afternoon there are a million people on the bridge jostling for a photo and you won't feel comfortable crossing from one side to the other. When there are so many tourists, I would appreciate more cleaning around the river, the bridge and the parking lot. There was enough trash on the ground.
Sofie P — Google review
The Stone Arch Bridge in Makhuntseti is a beautiful historic spot surrounded by nature. The old stone structure and the river flowing beneath make it a really scenic and peaceful place to visit. It’s especially lovely when combined with a visit to the nearby Makhuntseti Waterfall. A great place for photos, a short walk, or just to enjoy the calm atmosphere and the charm of old Georgian craftsmanship.
Rima B — Google review
This stone arch bridge is cool for sure, crazy how it is holding itself. There are no safety measures and it's not taking much time to be done there. In the pictures it looked more amazing than it was in reality! Still when you are in Makhuntseti you should not only check out the waterfall you should also go to the bridge! I also believe that the bridge is in summer or fall with the landscape more beautiful, but in the off season it's not as pretty when being completely honest. Also the river was super dirty! You can do summer rafting at this river and other touristy things. Also on the street you can buy souvenirs and will be talked to, but not in an annoying way

Kars Castle is a reconstructed 12th-century basalt fortress that includes a watchtower and the tomb of Jelal Baba. The city's rich cultural heritage is evident in its architectural landmarks, such as Kumbet Camii, an Armenian church turned mosque, and Fethiye Camii, a former Russian church with twin minarets.
An unforgettable experience. It may seem a bit steep but don’t hesitate to go up in the citadel. The scenery is breathtaking from there. The cafe inside the castle is closed for some time

A visit to Kars Castle is like stepping into a timeless journey through history. The place is not just wonderful; it's meticulously maintained by the municipality. Moreover, its convenient proximity to the city center allows for a leisurely stroll. Whether you explore it in the summer or winter, its charm remains captivating. You'll find serene mosques for prayer, and charming riverside cafes, all adding to the allure of this remarkable destination.

This castle, built in 1152 by vizier Firuz Akay by the order of Sultan Melik İzzeddin during the Saltuklu Principality, is a monument not only made of stone and brick, but also bearing the traces of history and emotions. Here are my feelings and thoughts while wandering around this fascinating building: When I started to tour the castle step by step, I was impressed by the atmosphere of this place intertwined with history. The solidity of its stone walls symbolized the power of time and the durability of this masterpiece created by human hands. When I walked in, I felt like ghosts of the past. All the events that took place here, all the words spoken here were felt as living memories in the marks on the walls. This castle is not just a structure, but also a personality that has witnessed the lives of many people. Saltuklu Sultan Melik Izzeddin's idea of having this castle built was perhaps a reflection of the power and magnificence of his time. Timur's destruction, III. Reconstruction by order of Murad, destruction by Shah Abbas I of Iran and subsequent repairs; all these reflected people's devotion to this castle and its historical importance. While visiting the castle, I couldn't stop myself from thinking about the flow of history. All the events that took place here and the efforts spent to repair this castle help us understand the history of humanity. People fought, repaired and rebuilt to defend this castle. This castle represents the resilience and determination of humanity. Castle walls are a place where history speaks loudly. The coldness of the stones makes this structure, which has been the silent witness of centuries, even more impressive. Walking among these stones feels like a meeting with the past. It seems like there is a story under every stone, a period of time hidden behind every wall. This castle, like time itself, is a monument that bears the traces of past experiences, and witnessing this monument was a magical experience for me.

This is free entrance for the Kars Castle. One of the beautiful castle, visit during winter, full of snow. Castle located right at the city centre, walking distance like 1km. Surrounded with other iconic attraction, such as Kumbet mosque and stone bridge and etc. Is a MUST visit when you in Kars.

Wow wow wow!!! This is a must if you visit Kars. Allow 90 to 120 minutes to wander around. Take a camera and snap away. We visited in January 2022, and there was snow on the ground. There is a little tea shop at the top, but although it was open, we did not grab anything to drink/eat. It got really cold when the sun set. There are toilets available. All photos shown were taken on my phone.

Akhaltsikhe (Rabati) Castle

Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Akhaltsikhe (Rabati) Castle, also known as Rabati, is a massive double-walled fortress complex dating back to the 9th century, with most structures built in the 12th century. The Georgian government invested heavily in its reconstruction in 2012. Situated at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, it's a major attraction dominating the landscape.
Fantastic place. Yes it had been renovated, maybe too nice, but it gives a good impression how it used to be. There is a part with free entrance where you can climb in the 2 towers and walk the walls. That is also where hoek and restaurants/cafes are. The Paris part is really really nice. So many things to see. It is really worth the money. Take some time though.
Frank S — Google review
Nice castle, though there were little to no exhibitions. There is a small museum on the castles grounds, but it has separate tickets, so we didn't decide to go in.
Adrian — Google review
Pretty cool castle complex. Lots of space, many different buildings to visit, and great views. Some free public spaces, but buying a ticket is worth it, especially if you have time and enjoy exploring. Although is a bit empty inside in regards to exhibitions, but pretty nice otherwise.
Paulius Š — Google review
Rabati Castle is absolutely stunning — a mix of history, culture, and architecture all in one place. The complex combines a fortress, mosque, church, and museum, showing the diverse past of Georgia in one view. The stone walls, towers, and courtyards are beautifully preserved, and the views from the top are incredible. It’s one of those places where every corner is worth a photo. If you visit Akhaltsikhe, this is the highlight — especially around sunset when the castle lights up and the atmosphere feels magical. 🏰🌅🇬🇪
Agustin P — Google review
Rabati Castle was one of the highlights of our trip, and I would definitely recommend adding it to your itinerary if you’re in the region. What makes it special: • Breathtaking views: The castle sits on a hill with panoramic views of Akhaltsikhe and the surrounding landscape — truly spectacular. • Rich history: With centuries of layered history, from Ottoman to Georgian influences, it’s a fascinating place to explore. The museum, the mosque, the church, and the fortress walls all tell different stories. • Beautiful architecture: The restoration was tastefully done — a blend of medieval, Eastern, and modern elements. It’s a great place to walk around, take photos, and soak in the atmosphere. • Relaxed vibe: There are cute cafés and shaded spots where you can enjoy a coffee, lemonade, or snack while taking in the scenery. Worth planning ahead: We took a Bolt taxi from Borjomi (about a 40-minute drive), but discovered that Bolt doesn’t work there for the return trip. We were lucky to find a cab while walking toward the bus stop, but it could have been stressful — especially since we had another activity planned in the afternoon. There’s a public bus that comes about once an hour, but if you’re on a tight schedule, I recommend pre-arranging your return transportation.
Guila V — Google review
Definitely worth 20 GEL to get the full experience. Beautiful interior views with many steep stairs to navigate. Did not partake of the optional extra audio guide.
Jon W — Google review
Visited this castle as a part of a group tour to Georgia. It's an interesting monument with many architectural buildings located inside. The fountain was my favourite as it was also related to our guide whose grandfather was a part of the mechanical engineering of the fountain ⛲. Overall the place is beautiful for photography but we did not have much time to walk around the fortress walls. There is a restaurant and a hotel on the premises.

Akhaltsikhe (Rabati) Castle is a must-visit destination on your trip to Georgia. The architecture is truly stunning, blending historical charm with a modern touch. We spent around three hours exploring the castle and enjoyed lunch at a nearby restaurant. There’s a small entry fee, but it’s absolutely worth it for the experience and the breathtaking views.

Ani Ruins

Mentioned on

Open air museum
Sights & Landmarks
Ani Ruins, located in Karsi, is a site steeped in ancient mystery and history. Once one of the largest cities with a population of 100 thousand people, it now stands as a beautiful but enigmatic place to explore. Visitors have reported tales of hauntings and strange creatures that have added an air of intrigue to the area.
Abandoned, bitter, mysterious, you are mesmerized by so many feelings while visiting this place. The ruins of Ani, where a river separates Turkey and Armenia, is one of the places you should see while you are alive. If you go in winter, dress warmly, it gets cold.
Adnan K — Google review
Ani is a very special place and being there was a very intimate experience of history and culture. I'd been to other live museums but this was my favourite. Well worth the trip.
Barbara M — Google review
Beautiful ruins, however it could be better looked after. Lot of litter and graffiti, presumably from visitors and the restoration workers. Support beam in one of the churches had fallen down. Considering the €8 entry, the information boards were pretty limited and appeared to minimise the Christian/Armenian heritage. The site is supported by the EU and UNESCO, so you’d expect it to be in better condition. Instead of completing the urgent structural repairs and site maintenance, they have prioritised converting one of the structures into a functional mosque. Still an amazing site and well worth a visit! 🇹🇷
Eva H — Google review
Amazing and extensive ruins with a deep history. The area is fairly large, and worth walking at length, particularly to see the Honents church, citadel, and area along the striking green river canyon that forms the border between Turkey and Armenia. A little bit more signage or maps would be helpful, particularly for a non-Turkish speakers. It was also unclear how the golf carts that take some tourists around work and there was no audio guide in English available. Some parts were under renovation. Still, worth exploring.
Kerry M — Google review
Unbelievably beautiful Armenian ruins where few visitors venture. Can see the Armenian border on the other side of the canyon. Truly special place.
Michele F — Google review
It was very interesting. You can get nice views. We went in winter. It was interesting to see how different cultures and time frames left a mark in this area. It must have been quite the metropolis in its time.
Sofia H — Google review
Ani is one of the most incredible places I've ever visited. It's an ancient city with a rich and complex history that you can feel as you walk through the ruins. Often called "the City of 1001 Churches," Ani was a major capital of the Bagratid Armenian kingdom and a key stop on the Silk Road in the 10th and 11th centuries. It was a thriving city with a population of over 100,000 at its peak, and you can see that grandeur in the remains of its impressive churches, mosques, and city walls. It's a shame that for many years, stones from the city were sold off, so much of its former glory is gone. But it's great to see that restoration work has started in recent years, and they are working to repair the large structures that are still standing. What makes the site so special is not just the history, but the location. Ani is situated on a plateau, and on one side, there's a deep, dramatic canyon formed by the Arpaçay River, which separates Turkey and Armenia. The view is absolutely breathtaking, with the ruined buildings perched right on the edge of the gorge. Walking around and seeing the blend of nature and history is truly a magical experience. The stone carvings and architectural details on the remaining buildings are stunning. You can spend hours just looking at the craftsmanship. Despite being in ruins, Ani is a deeply moving and beautiful place that everyone should see. It's a powerful reminder of how civilizations rise and fall, and it's a window into a fascinating period of history.

Borjomi Central Park is a serene oasis nestled in lush evergreen forests, offering a refreshing escape from the summer heat. Visitors can relax on benches under ancient trees, explore playgrounds and rides with their kids, and savor the renowned Borjomi water from the mineral spring. The park features well-maintained gardens, walking paths, and various recreational facilities for picnics and leisurely strolls.
This establishment is known for being quite welcoming and suitable for families. The tickets are reasonably priced, and it offers continuous access, available around the clock. Complimentary carbonated water is provided under the blue dome. Additionally, there's a section where one can capture wonderful photographs while standing on the stones beside the river, though caution is advised due to potential slipperiness.

Beautiful, well maintained park with plenty to see and do inside. There is a small funfair for children, a zip line, waterfall, plenty of walks and points of collection for the famous borjomi water. Recommend visiting here if you are in the town, entrance fee is a couple of GEL per person.

Borjomi Central Park is a beautiful and peaceful place that truly captures the charm of this historic spa town. The park is clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by stunning nature. You can enjoy a relaxing walk along the river, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and even try the famous Borjomi mineral water straight from the spring. There are many attractions for both adults and children, including a small amusement area, rope park, and even a cable car that offers lovely views of the surrounding forest. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming — perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers looking to unwind. In autumn, the colors of the trees are especially magical. It’s one of those places where you feel connected to nature and history at the same time. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Georgia!
Margo L — Google review
Nice nature place to check, it's probably the highlight of Borjomi, There plenty of views you also can drink the Borjomi original water for free or like people do take huge bottles with you to take away. Be careful from some of the restaurants on the way to the park they seem good but they are overpriced and the food is disgusting.
Alex B — Google review
This is a tourist park that charges a 5-lari entrance fee. However, the park is still under construction and currently offers very little apart from a pleasant view of a small waterfall. There is a children’s amusement area, but it too is unfinished. The road leading to the sulfur pools is muddy and unpaved, making it difficult to walk. Additionally, access to the pools — located about 3 km from the park, roughly a 45-minute walk — costs an extra 15 lari.

Nestled in the stunning landscapes of Armenia, Haghpat Monastery Complex is a remarkable medieval site that dates back to the tenth century. This architectural gem showcases multiple structures, including an impressive church and a bell tower, all offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area. While it shares similarities with its nearby counterpart, Sanahin Monastery—just a short 30-minute drive away—Haghpat stands out as a must-visit landmark in its own right.
Visiting Haghpat Monastery was a truly fascinating experience. The architecture is stunning, rich in detail, and history. One of the most memorable moments was discovering an image of Jesus on the wall, which added a deeply spiritual touch to our visit. It's a place where history, faith, and art come together beautifully.

We were there at 10 am on Sunday and it was already open. No tickets are needed. Enter is free. The trick is to be there before 11 and avoid the crowding caused by tour buses from Tbilisi and Yerevan. It’s hard to describe in words how beautiful this place is. Surrounded by lovely hill, it’s very peaceful.

The complex was smaller than expected and needed some basic maintenance. Several buildings but all very close to each other. Maybe I was expecting more after the visit to the more impressive Sanahin monastery.

Lovely monastery with great views, beautiful frescoes inside the church and pleasant architecture.

I love Orthodox Churches’ these humble and reverent vibe. It is just worthwhile to pay a visit.

The oldest known "All Savior" khachkar (cross- stones that feature a depiction of Jesus crusified) can be seen in this monastery, dated to 1273.
