Château de Chimay

Castle

The restoration is a labour of love that exudes an impressive appreciation of elegance at every turn. There is absolutely nothing that diminishes the ambiance and heraldic romanticism. We had been passing through Chimay on route to Rocroi and stopped here in free parking on the side of the main road near a small brocant up some steps. It is a short walk here over the pedestrian crossing towards a small river and chapel then up a modest and pebbled street where a very narrow passage invites exploration. This brings you to the front of the Château. There was nothing to dislike. The staff were lovely, kind, attentive and quite exceptional. We even saw the Prince and Princess. After all this is their home. The film of the Château is very interesting; so much so that one wishes one could have met some of those historical figures. Perhaps not Robespierre however. There are several signposts dotted around the town pointing the way but the impressive spire indicates a direction of travel. We are so glad to have stopped here in Chimay.

Fun experience, but the accessible parts within the castle are fairly limited. Interesting movie in the beginning, but mind that it's in French without subtitles.
Daan W — Google review
Came here before the entry time, so we had to wait. The saleswoman didn't seem to understand my aunt when she spoke French to her. But the place itself is really beautiful. Worth the time to visit. First there's a 30-35 minute video, but only in french (there's apparently a live-translator to get) and then 40-50 minute walkaround the place.
Solaris — Google review
Castle is pretty nice. They have a video presentation dating the history back to the early days and the castle has a nice courtyard and interior. Sadly the parts open to public are minor and because the castle is built on a rock it has no moat or gardens. Worth it ? Sure, but expect to be done in around 1 hour.
E H — Google review
Excellent castle! The only problem that you can only visit a couple of rooms and the chapel. The family that owns it still lives there since the 1400s.
Richard B — Google review
I like everything and is very beautiful but I think they should open the room in first floor even 1 room or 2 rooms so we can see how is now and the rest i would like to tell they doing very good to keep history of that building.

Zoo Maubeuge

Temporarily Closed
Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Park
Zoo with big cats, hippos, giraffes & animals from around the world in a unique fortress setting.
Lovely little zoo. Lots to see in a compact space, but not at the expense of enclosure size. It cost €48 for two adults and two children which compared to UK prices is very reasonable.
Warren D — Google review
Nice small zoo! We went the weekend after it opened and it was raining and still a bit cold, so a lot of animals were not in their open cages. There's no restaurant inside but there were vending machines. There's a gift shop at the end but the prices were 🤑🤑🤑 super expensive for the same toys you will see in King Jouet or even grocery stotes. You only need about 2.5 hours to see everything. The parking in front is not very big but I think there are other parking spaces around the area.
Jianne B — Google review
Zoo itself was nice and compact and affordable. Food was something else. Gross microwaved tosti and they were out of hotdogs.
Henk — Google review
Small clean zoo with a variety of animals. It's the only thing to do around Maubeuge. So if you pass by the town, visit the zoo and then gooo!
Jan D — Google review
Nice small zoo in the middle of the town, parking in front door but was fully occupied, we spent some time to find free parking place, entrance fee for 2+2 family is 41e so quite good, wc available, but just one in whole zoo, animals were nice but for my opinion not in so good condition like in PairiDaiza, we spent there almost 3 hours there, overally good...
Marek S — Google review
Had a very fun day out here (me and my partner). Was a nice little zoo with some really beautiful animals. It felt like you could get very close to the giraffes which was amazing. All the animals seemed happy and well cared for. Reasonably priced at €7 a person ish. Nice little gift shop. Decent restaurant, only problem was excessive flies. Knocked a star off because half of the zoo is not wheelchair accessible despite paying full price. Very steep hills and steps in places. Still worth a visit overall
Anthony G — Google review
A one of a kind place. The place feels ancient because of the old fortress and is taken very good care of. Situated in the heart of town with nice shelters voor the animals.
J H — Google review
Smashing little zoo, very clean. Great choice of animals, although some of the enclosures seemed a bit small for the animals within; quite a few were pacing a well trodden route round their enclosure. Slightly difficult for disabled visitors and possibly almost impossible for wheelchair users. All round though we had an enjoyable day.

absolutely fantastic trip, we love such walkings, part of the route goes along the rush road, but mostly it goes in the woods or by a quiet road, the dam is nice, big, water is clean, we found many crayfish there! we did the route marked black on the map, parked at the parking lot Falemprise (for free), in the middle of the route in the village Cerfontaine we had an excellent Chimay beer and bought some meal in Carrefour, in total it took us 6 hours including a small picnic, I recommend to visit this place, we will be back for sure... pros: you can make this route be bike without any problems...
Marek S — Google review
Great lake for swimming and walking, but it gets very crowded on hot days.

I walked about 4 hours around this lake. Me and my friend - we challenged ourselves to finish the ring. We finally did it. I can never forget this experience.

Saint Waltrude Collegiate Church

Mentioned on

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
The Saint Waltrude Collegiate Church, located in Mons, Belgium, is a Catholic church dedicated to Saint Waltrude of Mons. Dating back to 1450, this protected monument houses the car d'Or and features Brabant-Gothic architecture. The church's grandeur is evident from its Gothic design and towering interior with straight lines and solid stone construction.
Oh my word! What an absolutely stunning building both inside and out! We visited in June 2023,while on our first holiday to Belgium, all the way from Scotland. Peaceful, calming, so,so,spiritual, when we entered. Only thing I'd say is,(me being religious)- (other people may not think its a big deal), the toilet signs, could be on a better place, other than right beside the c Cross of Jesus Christ. That's only my opinion, anyway,we loved everything about the Chapel. Thanks, and 🙌 blessings.
Norma M — Google review
A beautiful Gothic interior, with a multitude of stained glass windows, a real feature of Mons. The exterior is impressive too. Inside houses a large carriage used in the pageants like the ducasse of Mons.
Graham S — Google review
It it a very beautiful church. You can feel all the history. Both the joy and the sorrows that have been felt in this place. There’s so much to see and especially enjoyed all the handcarved pieces. You’ll not regret visiting this beautiful church.
Jannick K — Google review
Beautiful gothic church with a lot of art, espescially the marble cursus are beautiful, marvelous Windows with stained glass and a small but interesting treasure room.
Kees W — Google review
Very prominent church in Mons. Ongoing renovations and retrofitting. A lovely church indeed and the paintings inside and some interesting informations could be accessed through their partnered downloadable audio guide via IziTravel.
Vic C — Google review
The Saint Waltrude Collegiate Church is the magnificent building of Mons. Even from the outside, one can see the church is of Gothic design, although the southern section is covered in scaffolding due to restoration work. The Gothic design is much more obvious from the inside with straight lines of incredible height. Part of that is down to the hardness of the stone used and even now looks so solid. As you can guess from the name, the church is named in honour of Saint Waltrude, whose shrine and reliquary can also be found inside. Her head can be found in the chapel dedicated to her and the reliquary containing her body is held above the high altar for all to see. The church also has some chapels with important sculptures and paintings such as those by Jacques du Broeucq and Peter Paul Rubens. The chapel of Saint Peter is unexpected as it has a wooden sculpture of death to symbolically represent the passage of time, as well as an alabaster sculpture of Jesus symbolically handing over the keys of heaven to Peter. There's also a free downloadable audio guide, which is good enough to help you understand the history of the church as well as giving good commenter on all the chapels.
Macedonboy — Google review
Although missing a clock tower, it is worth a visit. It is huge church containing the relequis of St Waltrude. You can download a free tour guide giving you more background info.
Bart E — Google review
One of Belgium's most beautiful churches if you ask me. It's very big and the relics and organ are just amazing. The story behind the beautiful carriage is also very interesting! Don't miss this on your visit to Mons.

Grand-Place de Mons

Mentioned on
7 lists
Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Grand-Place de Mons is a historical center with narrow cobbled streets and well-preserved old buildings that showcase the city's rich history. The area features a stunning main square surrounded by cafes and restaurants, offering a vibrant atmosphere for visitors to enjoy coffee, lunch, or wine. The square also boasts an engraved circle displaying the names of the 19 townships comprising Greater Mons. Additionally, temporary art installations like the statues of Plensa add to the square's allure.
Visiting Grand-Place in Mons was one of the highlights of my trip. The square is full of charm, surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, and has such a warm, local vibe. I spent a few hours here just soaking in the atmosphere — it’s lively but not overwhelming, and the pedestrian-only layout makes it feel really relaxed and welcoming. What really stood out to me were the cafés and restaurants around the square. I enjoyed a delicious lunch at one of the terrace spots with a perfect view of the Town Hall — the food was great, and the service was friendly. Whether you’re in the mood for Belgian classics or something more modern, there’s something for everyone. Don’t forget to rub the little brass monkey on the Town Hall for good luck! It’s a fun local tradition and easy to miss. If you’re in Mons, definitely make time to stop here — it captures the heart of the city beautifully.

Pairi Daiza

Mentioned on
+15 other lists
Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Pairi Daiza is a zoo and botanical garden situated in Brugelette, Belgium, on the grounds of a former Cistercian Abbey. Spanning 65 hectares, it is home to over 7,000 animals from around the world, including rare and endangered species like lions, pandas, koalas, gorillas, and lemurs.
I love that this isn't just a bunch of animal exhibits, but a full story of the various parts of our world. You definitely enjoy seeing the decor as much as you do the animals. In terms of decor, Middle Kingdom and Kingdom of Ganesha were my favourites, with Last Frontier following closely. Animal highlights were the snow leopard, the giant pandas (that I doubled back to see later in the day), the lemurs jumping around above the visitors, the lion and lioness bumping heads in affection. I like being able to be close to animals, like the deer in Last Frontier, the birds in the aviary, and the peacock (peahen?) with the chicks. My least favourite part was definitely Land of the Cold. It was very crowded, and since it was already very hot when I got to it, not too many animals were interested in being seen. Can't blame them, though. I also wasn't a fan of the aquarium. I appreciate the vibe (first the cave, and later the submarine-feel), but it was a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the zoo. A wonderfully done part of the zoo and an unexpected favourite were Lands of the Past. I have never been as scared in my life as I was when I saw those mammoths moving! (While writing this, I realized I missed the entire ship-load of snakes, spiders, and lizards! Oh no!)
Martina J — Google review
Pairi Daiza is, without a doubt, my absolute favourite animal park. I visit several times a year, and every visit is pure joy. This park is truly exceptional and never stops improving and expanding. The settings and landscapes are simply breathtaking, making it a real pleasure to spend an entire day here. The park evolves with the seasons and transforms beautifully for special events such as Easter, Christmas, Carnival, Halloween, and during summer weekends, when unique evening openings until 11 PM create a magical atmosphere. Pairi Daiza is the perfect place for a family day out or a relaxing walk surrounded by nature and incredible animals. I highly recommend visiting, you won’t regret it. Moreover, the work carried out by the Pairi Daiza Foundation is meaningful and impactful, contributing greatly to animal welfare and conservation worldwide. I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to support their efforts. Pairi Daiza truly deserves its title as the most beautiful park in Europe. It is always a pleasure to spend time there, no matter the season or occasion.
Matt S — Google review
The best, most beautiful and well organised zoo (despite the thousends of visitors and parking cars) I have ever visited in Europe (and I say that after Vienna, Zürich, Paris). It is not just a zoo, it is also a garden heaven, with many tematics and attractions, shows (especially at Halloween, they are open until 10 p.m.). It is very enjoyable for adults and of course for children, as well. If you have a lot of money you can also sleep here in different kinds of apartments, they are all awesome, too. The app is very helpful, you can use it like a GPS, you can also see which restaurants, kiosks are open or closed. It would be more useful, if you can see where were you already, not to skip a place. Every toilets and restaurants are also a great and different experience. I would like to come back at winter, Christmas time, as well. All the view and photos you see on the website is in real life exactly the same. Just perfect. Thank you, Piari Daiza. ❤️
Andrea N — Google review
Amazing wildlife parc with huge setups. Many big zones that are divided in different continents. You can cover this in a full day. We arrived at 11 am and left 7 pm. But you take your time you need more than a day to fully enjoy. Fantastic day and can’t wait to visit again
Dennis H — Google review
There are probably tons of reviews already calling this place one of the best parks to visit, and here I am adding one more to the list. But honestly, this isn’t just a park. It’s an experience. No matter how old you are, it’s something you won’t forget. One of the things I appreciated the most was seeing how deeply they care for every animal there. You can feel it in every corner, and it’s such a beautiful thing to witness anywhere you go. Suggestions: Plan two days to see the whole park 🙌🏻
Sarah J — Google review
A nice, big zoo that gives off a bit of a Tomorrowland and fairytale vibe. My recommendation: come earlier, because it’s super big! Try to visit in summer, spring, or early autumn. We didn’t even see half of the animals because many were hiding or sleeping due to the weather. But overall, it’s a really good place — definitely recommend!
Ivanna D — Google review
We really enjoyed it here. The park was huge and we didn't get time to see everything in one day; but we picked the animals we wanted to see the most. My kids loved the Monkey Bridge (5 & 8).
Marc C — Google review
An absolute must-visit! A beautiful zoo with genuine care for animal welfare. I honestly cannot think of a single negative thing to say about this park. The animals live in beautiful, spacious, and well maintained enclosures and all look healthy and well cared for. What really stood out to me is the transparency and the attention to detail. Whenever an animal has a minor issue or a visible condition, there are clear signs explaining the reason. For example, one animal was limping slightly, and the sign explained that this was due to arthritis as the animal had reached an advanced age. This is such a thoughtful initiative and shows that the animals are truly cared for. I know that some people are against zoos, but without places like Pairi Daiza, which work incredibly hard with breeding programs, care, donations, and conservation efforts. The situation for many endangered species would be far worse. This zoo makes a valuable contribution to the protection and preservation of animals, and that deserves recognition. I truly enjoyed this visit, both because of the animals and the way everything is organized. Without a doubt, this is a place I will happily return to. Highly recommended!

Strépy-Thieu Boat Lift

Mentioned on

Historical landmark
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Strépy-Thieu Boat Lift is a remarkable feat of human engineering, towering at 102 meters high and dominating the valley between Strepy-Bracquegnies and Thieu. Completed in 2002, it is the world's tallest ship lift, capable of raising or lowering massive boats by 73 vertical meters. Visitors can explore the lift's efficient engine room and appreciate its construction through a multilingual video.
This boat lift is an example of magnificent engineering. It overcomes a height difference of 73m and until 2016, when the boat lift in the three georges dam in China took over, the tallest boat lift in the world. It was completed in 2002 together with the canal and aquaduct nearby. The lift has two counterweighted caissons (tanks) of 118m long, 16,5m wide, and 8 meter high. There are eight large counterweights connected via 144 steel cables to each tank. Four huge electric motors drive the vertical movement of each tank. You can visit the eight floor where you have a museum, a video presentation and where you can see the big machinery hall. On that level is also a cafetaria. On your way out, you can stop on level five for a panoramic look outside. When I was there (May 2025) there were no large ships lifted or lowered due to a collapsed bridge which blocked the canal north of the lift. Only small pleasure boats used the lift.
Seimen B — Google review
Impressive piece of civil engineering with views over the canal below. Viewing platform and tour available. I think you may need to be lucky to see the lift in action as it depends on canal boats turning up. Nonetheless, the boat lift dominates its surroundings.
Martin B — Google review
The lift is a beautiful site with its majestic piece of engineering and its beautiful landscaped surroundings. The issue is that the road going around the lift is used by racing motorbikes and cars making horrible reving noises throughout the day. How can this be allowed?
B J — Google review
What an amazing show of engineering! The museum inside was suprisingly well thought out and very up to date. Even including how covid influenced the shipping industry & the accident in the Seuz canal. Staff was friendly & welcoming. We even got to see the structure in motion when a boat arrived during our visit. Definitely learned a lot here. There’s ramps up to the windows, large and lowered elevator buttons for easy accessibility.
Ravennest 1 — Google review
The place was closed while we were there, but we were just passing by. Will have to come back when it's open as it's an impressive structure and appears to have a lot more inside.
Adrian B — Google review
Very impressive, lovely area. Didn't do the boat trip but looked interesting.
Richard H — Google review
A gigantic elevator for boats? Amazing and curious place to visit if you like to go off the beaten track. There is a visitor centre that offers information and an interactive and child friendly expo. If you plan ahead you can also arrange a boat trip that takes you in the elevator.
Kbkat B — Google review
Came by back. Exhibits were so so but the live boat lift was good experience. The Strépy-Thieu Boat Lift is a modern engineering marvel and a fascinating site to explore. Completed in 2002, it is one of the tallest boat lifts in the world, with a vertical rise of 73 meters. It was built to replace the historic canal lifts and improve navigation along the Canal du Centre. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views from the observation deck and learn about the area's rich industrial heritage in the exhibition space.

Hospital Our Lady with the Rose

Local history museum
Hospital Our Lady with the Rose, established in 1242, is Belgium's sole surviving medieval convent-farm-hospital complex. Meticulously restored, it showcases the evolution of medieval medicine through a stunning herb garden and various hospice eras, featuring a display of historical medical tools. Notable exhibits include a bird-beaked plague doctor and a 16th-century painting depicting Jesus with a female breast. The site also houses an impressive collection of religious art.
Our Tour Guide was excellent. The lobby and restaurant are very nice and clean. The garden is beautiful, with it's intricate landscaping. The Hospitality was overflowing. The history, attention to details on the displays is impressive. There's so much to capture. Our Historian captured every detail in this Historical Hospital. The Hospital made a tremendous impact in the Commune of Lessines, Belgium. Well done. Highly recommend!
Timothy O — Google review
Visiting the Hospital de Notre Dame Lessines is like stepping into a time machine, whisking you back to the medieval era. This magnificent hospital-convent is a treasure trove of history, where the pest doctor mode is not just a costume but a full-on experience. The knowledge shared about the intersection of medicine and history is nothing short of enlightening, delivered in an authentic setting that feels untouched by time. The garden, open for all to explore, is a delightful bonus. They even house poisonous plants. Picture yourself wandering among herbs and enjoying stunning views that make you forget the town of Lessines itself isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot. While the town may not be worth your time, this gem certainly is. If you’re a history buff or just someone who appreciates a good story, this place is well worth a visit! Very suited for #darktourism

a wonderful place that is definitely worth seeing, we parked on a nearby street, the hospital is almost in the city center, they have free admission on Sundays, English-speaking staff, toilets available, it starts with a short movie, then you walk through the individual rooms with a electronic voice guide, part of the tour is also outside of building - garden and courtyard, the hospital was extremely interesting not only for adults but also for children, I definitely recommend seeing

Great visit. A lot of stuff to see. Take your time for this museum. Guess the garden is best visited during summer. And you can have a nice drink on the terrace nextdoor near the fountain.

Wonderful tour with the local Flemish guide who narrated to the history with much passion, wit and detail. Recommend taking the guided tour over the audio guide. Compelling story on a historically uniquely preserved place.

As a new resident to Lessines, I was given tickets to visit the museum. The museum also sent a letter to new residents to go collect a welcome gift of books and postcards based on the hospital. Staff were all very welcoming and congratulatory. Audio guide was available in English. I particularly loved the medicinal garden, though it was winding down for the winter. I will definitely make another visit the the garden during spring and summer as it was an ideal place to study plants, with everything clearly labelled and informative, in French.

Very old hospital that was running from the 13th century became a museum in the second half of the 20th century. Old times the cure for human soul was even more important than cure for the body. As time went by you can see the development of medicine over several centurys. The collection of old instruments is a bit creepy and makes you feel happy that you didn't have to be a patient old times.
Pille P — Google review
Very nice place! 😀 They even have kids' panels (in French, no NL or ENG). Audiophones in NL and FR for adults. Very interesting, especially the old pharmacy! Unfortunately it was raining that day but that didn't stop us from enjoying the covered and heated terrace after the museum visit! Also saw the herbal garden for the pharmacy, learned so much about poisonous plants haha. Absolutely worth it!

Bois du Cazier, located in the suburb of Marcinelle, is a significant industrial heritage site in Charleroi. It encompasses a pair of museums dedicated to industry and glassmaking, as well as a former coal mine with UNESCO World Heritage status. The site provides insight into the development of mining, glass-making, and metal-working during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Wonderful museum, definitely visit if you have the chance! Every first Sunday of the month - visiting the museum is free.

Very well laid out, comprehensive. I'm a nerd, so I love seeing the old machinery. The mining museum memorial was very touching.

Excellent! Excellent! the parking lot was full so we parked in a nearby street, the entrance fee is valuable, kind staff speaks English, toilets are for free, the area is quite large, we walked independently with an electronic guide, many exhibits are related to mines and coal, machines, industry, electricity, short the film shows the history of the mine and industry and the minning accident, everywhere was clean, the spaces for visitors are outside and inside, you can spend about 2-3 hours there, interesting even for children, there is a cafe and a restaurant, I highly recommend it!

We spent most of the day here as there was so much to see. I loved the narrative guide; it was like a conversation between a lady and a gentleman personas who worked in the mine, so I found it alive and captivating.

UNESCO site of industrial heritage. Staff is very polite and helpful. Definitely worthy of your visit. Amazing to think in what conditions people lived and worked to provide energy for the country. It is also a place of a human tragedy which took lives of several hundred people.

We spent 5 hours (incl restaurant on the site). The place is very big and very interesting. It is very recommended, also with kids.

Excellent museum well worth visiting. It teaches you a lot about the industrial revolution and mining in this area and is very in depth with sub museums also inside such as a glass museum. The staff speak good English and the displays also are in perfect English. I spent 2 hours here so this is highly recommended. Free entry also.

One of the best museum experience! A must visit for all ages. Thanks to a great audio guide, recordings of a former miner and his sister let you introduce you the life of miners and revisit the tragedy of Marcinelle and its lessons for the future, as you walk through the places which became both source of glory and shame for the country. Very moving. You cannot walk out indifferent. Could not keep my tears.

(Translated by Google) After several years of coming to Comedy Central, the atmosphere in the restaurant is no longer the same. The staff was much friendlier, warmer and more attentive. The head chef who becomes a waiter and manager doesn't appreciate it when the former staff has a kind word for the customers. The aperitifs are no longer at all comparable either in price or quantity (such as gin and tonic). Portion of fries for a child!! The soul of the restaurant has disappeared with all the old ones who have disappeared, too bad 😭😭 You lost the friendly spirit of the comedy central by merging. (Translated by Google) Since the takeover by "Le Palace," with these few positive improvements—the welcome, the service, the new setting, the air conditioning—I find it more pleasant. I speak on behalf of six subscribers for over 10 years from the Namur region. However, changing the Sunday schedule from 5 p.m. to 4 p.m. is a constraint for us because, given the distance and the care along the way, it's a bit of a race to reserve our favorite seats. Moreover, the show ends an hour earlier, or around 5:30 p.m., which is a bit early for dinner. I think 6:30 p.m. would have been more convenient for everyone. This is just our opinion.

Instructor Max deserves his name. He is 'the max'. We had a fantastic flight from Oostende (EBOS) to Inverness (EGPE). Flying on AP for about 1 hour while being instructed every single function of the overhead panel and preparing the ILS for Inverness in detail. Smooth, almost perfect landing on the rather short runway. Passengers Fabienne and Harmony thoroughly enjoyed the flight as well. June 6th 2024 Yes I did it again, and with Max. Two slots of 2 hours, each of them feeling like half an hour. I explicitly ask for Max to be the instructor. I was not disappointed, he still is the same professional and funny guy I met a year ago. You want to fly with Max, don't wait too long, I think he might get his full license soon, so he won't need the simulator any more.

Had to book months in advance (on a working day) due to limited slot availability. Flight was cancelled two hours before 'departure', which we only found out after arriving in Charleroi. We did not receive the promised refund and have been trying to contact EFS for multiple weeks. Mails are ignored and telephone calls result in empty promises that management will call us back (which never happens). Avoid this company.

The forest offers well-maintained walking, cycling, and horse riding paths suitable for visitors of all ages.
Hallerbos is a stunning forest in Belgium, famous for its bluebell carpet that blooms in spring. The forest offers scenic walks, a forest museum, and a rich history. I highly recommend visiting this forest, especially during the bluebell season.

Another beautiful gem in Belgium. Went there on Friday eve just before first shuttle starts operating to avoid crowds. Hyacinths are not in full bloom yet, but the peace around makes up for it. Saw a lovely deer too!

Famous for the blue hyacinth, but before they show up the forrest floor is covered with anemones, and at the right time, you will see both. The forrest itself is remarkable, also outside the hyacinth festival, hilly with great tracks and trails….

A wonderful park, 30 minutes from Brussels. Many hiking and biking trails. Purple Zvoncic magically colours the entire forest, which is an incredible sight. This is not a phenomenon. There are forests like this all over the world, but the Belgians have protected this environment well and made it an attraction. In any case, a good walk and a wonderful view.
Radovan Z — Google review
Very nice forest to take a walk - even without the beautiful flowers! The park is quite big and the trails are marked very well. Can be quite cold, as the sunshine is blocked by the trees - but that can be a plus in the hot summer months. The are several parking spots, which can be seen on the map of the park in one of the attached photos.

Get prepared to walk amidst tall green trees. Walking, cycling, horse ride paths are well maintained. Kids friendly, solo, groups, family- a place for everyone to relax. Enough parking areas around the little forest. During this hyacinth festival, there are free buses running from Halle station during weekends. Tables to sit here and there. A good picnic spot, no entrance ticket. Blue bells all around is a wonderful sight to walk. Visitors leave the place as it is and pick your trash.

Gaasbeek Castle, located in Lennik, Flemish Brabant, Belgium, is a stunning 19th-century castle with romantic architecture dating back to medieval times. The castle houses an impressive collection of artworks and boasts extensive gardens that are considered among the most beautiful in the country. While the interior may not feature much furniture, it still offers a glimpse into the past and hosts various exhibitions.
Gaasbeek Castle is definitely worth a visit. They recently finished a renovation that took almost three years, and it really shows. The castle looks great, both inside and out. They've done a good job of keeping a lot of the original items, so it feels very authentic and you get a real sense of the history. It's quite informative as you walk through. The castle garden is also a highlight. It's really beautiful and well-maintained, with different sections to explore. It's a nice place for a relaxed stroll. The wider castle grounds are good for hiking too. You can easily spend some time walking around and enjoying the scenery. Just a heads-up, while the castle and grounds are excellent for adults and older visitors, the interior with its historical artifacts might not be the most engaging for very young children. Teenagers and up would probably get more out of it. Overall, it's a very good experience if you're looking for a historical day out with impressive grounds. There are 2 free of charge parkings, You can buy a combo tickets for the castle and the castle garden. I personally find the garden - a garden, with flowers, fruit trees, nothing extra ordinary.

The Gaasbeek Castle is a must, you approach it down a long avenue of trees the exterior is well maintained as is the interior. You can visit many rooms and even get lost there is so much to see. The detailed vaulted ceilings and the tapestries are superb. From the kitchen area with projections to the coin collection there are endless choices.

We visited this handsome castle on a very cloudy and rainy day and it did not take away an inch from its charm and warmth. It was surprisingly calm and there were only a handful of people present. I've seen many many castles but not like this one. On entrance, it pleasantly welcomes you and leaves you in awe. The castle itself was very clean and extremely well maintained. The staff were very friendly as well. The walk to and around the castle is an experience of itself and I recommend taking a tour around the pond. It was my first time, but I'm glad to say we will meet again very soon.

Waterloo Battlefield in Belgium is a must-visit for military enthusiasts and tourists alike. The underground museum and visitor center offer immersive multimedia exhibits on the 1815 Battle of Waterloo, one of the bloodiest battles in history. While there are few remains of the battlefield today, it serves as a place for reflection and contemplation. The new museum presents updated historical findings, debunking myths and reevaluating the roles of different parties involved.
Immersive and unforgettable! A fantastic experience from start to finish. The 3D movie was a real highlight—so well done and emotional. The museum is super interactive, with creative displays, sound effects, and hands-on elements that make the history feel alive. The outdoor reenactment camp and Lion’s Mound added to the atmosphere, and everything is really well organized and accessible. Perfect for history lovers and curious visitors alike!
Rania Y — Google review
The museum is interactive and tells a very well thought out story. The details are everywhere from fun little Lego characters to computer screens that either tell cool stories or morph between images from what's on the screen to what's behind it. Very cool displays throughout the museum. I was also loving the presentation of the battlefield by the use of telescopes to find the moving soldiers on the battlefields throughout different dates. Everything was engaging and creative and had multiple languages. Definitely recommend a visit. We took our 12 year old and she was engaged in parts and not so much on others.

Visiting the Battle of Waterloo remembrance site is a fascinating journey into one of the most pivotal moments in European history. The museum does an excellent job of bringing the past to life, showcasing the events that marked both the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte. Through immersive exhibits and detailed displays, it offers a deep understanding of how this single battle reshaped the political landscape of Europe for decades to come. A highlight of the visit is climbing the 41-meter-high Lion’s Mound, the impressive monument built by King William I of the Netherlands to commemorate the battle. From the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view over the former battlefields—an awe-inspiring sight that helps you imagine the scale and intensity of the conflict that unfolded there in 1815. Overall, the Waterloo remembrance site and museum provide a meaningful and educational experience for anyone interested in European history, military strategy, or the legacy of Napoleon’s empire. It’s a place where history truly comes alive.
Hans M — Google review
The Waterloo Battlefield experience is truly fantastic and incredibly well-organized. You begin your journey in a superb museum that expertly guides you through the intricate history of the Battle of Waterloo and Napoleon's significant role. The exhibits are exceptionally well-made, enhanced by an engaging audio guide accessible via your phone, providing rich details that truly bring the era to life. I was particularly impressed by the captivating paintings and their accompanying in-depth explanations. From the museum, you can ascend to the iconic Lion's Mound (the "pyramid"). The panoramic view from the top is absolutely breathtaking, offering a clear perspective of the battlefield. There's also a detailed plan indicating the real positions of the warring factions, which is incredibly helpful for visualizing the conflict. A real highlight for me was the immersive acting experience, where you handle a wooden musket and learn to march like the troops before battle. Furthermore, the shooting simulation is beautifully crafted, brilliantly capturing the essence and intensity of what it must have been like to be amidst a real fight. This entire site is stunning and comes highly recommended for a visit with both kids and friends.
Antoine M — Google review
Had a great experience at the Waterloo battlefield, Lion’s Mound and the museum. Surreal to walk around the grounds and learn even more about the place and battle that ultimately ended Napoleon’s reign. The staff are all friendly and welcoming, the experience is value for money and it’s worth a trip!
Mathew L — Google review
Napoleon’s final defeat happened here, and the museum very closely captures what took place. Basic tour was great, with visit to the top. A lot of stairs, so if you are used to less walking those please consider. Additional extra there is also a Lego-exhibition for children or lego-enthusiasts. Reserve around 1,5h to check all.
Eerik H — Google review
If you love history this is a must see. Located a few miles outside the town if Waterloo, the battered is well preserved (except for the fact that they dug up a portion of it to build the Lion Mound). There's a nice modern museum and on-site restaurant (with bathrooms). A huge and detailed 3D model of the battlefield is in the museum and it is worth studying. Also, it's a good idea to read up on the battle and how it progressed before coming because they don't do a very through review of that. The battle was fought over a large area, so climbing the Lion mound is a good idea if you want to see the area in its entirety. The climb, however, is 225 steps at a fairly steep angle so if you're not in good shape or are afraid of heights be sure you're up to it.

Very informative. Loved the Lego exhibition of Napoleon's life. The Lions butte is a bit of a climb; 226 steps but the views at the top of the battlefield site are well worth it.

The Hergé Museum, located an hour south of Brussels, is a modern building that showcases the works of cartoonist Georges Remi, known for creating the beloved character Tintin. The museum offers engaging audio tours and features an extensive display of models, pictures, and source materials used by the artist. Visitors can also admire the original triptych portrait of Hergé by Andy Warhol. The museum's gift shop is also a noteworthy attraction.
A fantastic way to spend a couple of hours in Belgium. This museum is located 40minutes away from Brussels by train but is well worth the visit. The interactive quiz that guests solve as they walk through the museum is an uniquely engaging strategy indeed. The props and storyboards as well as the audio guide make the world of Herge come alive. The museum gift shop is also lovely with some items priced decently so that no one leaves for home empty handed. A must see place when visiting Belgium.

First, the building itself is worth the visit: superb architectural creation that is both aesthetic and functional with lots of natural light. The content is arranged chronologically and is comprehensive. A fairly high degree of depth for the afficionado while also leaving the possibility to only skim and enjoy the experience. The electronic guided tour is helpful and entertaining. Any Tintin fan must make the trip to this museum if they are in the area. Easy short train ride from Brussels.

If you used to read Tintin as a child this museum will be a heartwarming experience, as the visitor has the opportunity to see the original sketches of the comic. This museum is dedicated to the art of Hergé who other than an amazing comic artist he had other talents as well, in Herge museum the visitor can also admire his lesser known works.

For any true Tintin buff, this is the place to be. What an exceptional experience to go through in this museum, so well designed over 3 floors. Each corner one passed one is welcomed by so many of displays from the Tintin creator. It is a great honor to visit Tintin exhibition and I would not hesitate to come back for another adventure with Tintin and his friends. Highly recommended for young and old to go for a visit there while visiting Louvain

Perfect walk from railway station too.

Being a die hard Tintin fan growing up reading his comics and watching his cartoons, Herge Museum was my main reason to visit Brussels. Visited as free entry on 1st Sunday of the month. Of course, this place has lot of Tintin stuff for fans but do keep in mind this is Herge (Georges Remi) Museum and focuses more on creator of Tintin. You learn about his family, inspirations behind Tintin characters, how things got affected by world war and there are some nice props from Tintin like Thompson Thomson car, Rocket from Destination of moon, Shark Submarine from Red Rackram's treasure. Lots of photo opportunities. The garden outside with Herge statue is also very good and there are free locker rooms to keep your luggage. Free audioguide can be connected with museum wifi to learn more about Herge. The overall infrastructure of museum is very good. The only sad part is the location of Herge Museum at louvain la neuve which is 1 hr from Brussels city by train. But when Tintin can travel to any corner of the world, why can't his fans travel to this corner for him?
Nirav P — Google review
Stunning design of the museum. Lots of information, interesting enough for children as well. I would not recommend it for very young children, they would get easily bored. Parking is a bother, but I had figured that out before coming so just park under the town square in the big garage. We got lucky and visited the museum on the first Sunday of the month which was free. The gift shop has some well priced items and some insanely priced items, bought something out of appreciation for the works of art that I had seen on display.

Swimming pool
Aqualibi is a year-round indoor waterpark located at the entrance to Walibi Belgium. The park features a variety of high-speed and gentle water slides, a wave pool, and a dedicated kids' zone. The indoor facility boasts glass roofs, housing attractions such as a relaxation pool with massage jets, Laguna Verde heated to 36C with accompanying jacuzzis, and thrilling slides suitable for all ages. Visitors can enjoy river rapids and periodic waves in the main pool.
Here my detailed review: Entry fee & Parking: Parking is shared with walibi theme park. 13€ is kinda expensive but if you pay parking at the Aqualibi desk, its only 11€. The entry fee for Aqualibi is around 35€ which is ok but also not cheap but on the limit. Sadly there is no combi ticket together with the theme park. Also a chip wristband paying system could be useful, so you dont have to bring a wallet to the pool bar. Since Aqualibi is open till 10pm, it offers a nice additional experience after spending a day at Walibi, which closes already at 6pm. I entered Aqualibi at 5pm. The crowds were mid and only the new slides had some waiting. Changing rooms: The changing rooms are clean, its also unisex. Lockers are fine and are NO upcharge. Also note their clothing policy, they dont allow shorts. Pools: The main pool area is themed to some degree and features some rockwork. It has a medium sized wave pool, which can be pretty packed. The waves were only turning on once in the 2,5 hours I was there. There is also a nice relaxing Lagoon with some whirlpools. Kids play areas are right next to the Lagoon. For the ambient temperature it was kinda chilly at some spots (outdoors it was 20°C) with lots of AC running. The water temperature was just right. The cleanliness in the pools was not so great but thats usual if there is lots of people. Slides: So this is the park's main focus. The dome with the wave pool offers some slides (these are the older ones). Here you have some chill tire slides (like Bi-bob) but also some faster slides like Flash and Extreme (this one has a nasty direction change where you almost flip over). Next to the lagoon, there is the very well themed Rapido river slide. This one is lots of fun with much variation and even features a "disco" cave. Its a very chaotic and wild slide. Only minus is that they dont regulate how many people are on the Rapido, I felt like being in a "people avalanche" where you constantly bump into others or they bump into you. For the new slides, you had to wait a bit (max. 10-15min). You wait at the bottom to get a tire and then walk up to the slide's start. The slide with the bowl and with the half pipe were very popular, fun and exciting. The slides where you lie belly down on a mat are also fun but not as fast and exciting. The banzai slides (featuring 2 uphill passages) was nice but way too short and kinda slow. Cool idea but not as exciting as the others. Also not that banzai requires 2 people on a tire/boat, if you are below 68kg. After around 6pm the waits dropped significantly to even zero on most slides. (Was there on a friday) For me 3h were enough to have a good time and experience everything and doing multiple laps on the slides. Verdict: ++ slide selection ++ great in the evening after being at Walibi + theming, especially on rapido + free lockers ~ mid cleanliness ~ pricing not cheap but also not expensive ~ no chip payment wristbands

Decent Fun, But Major Downsides I visited Aqualibi recently and while the slides and attractions themselves were enjoyable, several important issues affected the overall experience. Firstly, there was no proper ventilation or fresh air inside the building. It felt stuffy and uncomfortable, especially after spending more time in the pool areas. It’s a water park – fresh air is essential. Waiting times were also a big downside. We had to stand in line far too long for most slides, which really took away from the fun. The park was crowded, but queue management could definitely be improved. When it comes to food, the quality does not match the price at all. It’s overpriced for what you get – both in taste and portion size. Finally, there was too much chlorine in the water. It irritated the eyes and skin, and the smell was overwhelming in certain areas. Aqualibi has potential, but unless some of these issues are addressed, I’m not sure I’d rush to return.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an amazing day at Aqualibi Brussels! The kids had the best time — it’s a wonderfully fun and safe place to enjoy with family and friends, including young children right from toddler age. The facilities are well kept, the atmosphere is lively, and there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy, no matter the age group. One small suggestion: while the swimming costume policy is understandable and important for everyone’s safety and hygiene, it would be very helpful if this information was highlighted more clearly when purchasing tickets online. That way, guests can be fully prepared and avoid any confusion or disappointment upon arrival. Overall, a fantastic experience and we are already looking forward to visiting again soon!

Recently visited Aqualibi on weekday around 1pm. It was too crowded due to sunny day (probably) and waited more than hour outside entrance. Considering dress code requirement , they need tight shorts for men and length should be above knee for dames. If you don’t have already so they force to buy from premises at much higher price, for instance men shorts priced 17.90€ talking about inner atmosphere, it’s quite ok. There are 4 news water slides which are quite fast and thrilling experience. Others slides are not that fast but quite good to enjoy. There are pools and slides for kids less than 1.20m height which is also quite nice. Parking is 11€ for day , can be bought from ticket counter. Lockers are included with ticket pass and also handy. Good shower facility available , but you must have own shampoo/soap :) Overall satisfied with managing staff and Experience.

We had a fantastic visit to Aqualibi with our family (two kids). The facilities were clean, everything was well organized, and the staff was very helpful. The food options were perfect for a quick lunch—although a bit pricey (€15 for adults, €10 for kids). Buying tickets online, including parking, was super easy. Even though the park was quite busy, it’s spacious enough that it never felt overcrowded. A small tip for visitors: check the swimwear rules in advance—I bought fitted swim shorts for my husband beforehand, and everything went smoothly. Overall, a wonderful day out. We’ll definitely be coming back! 👍🏻

We chose to be here on Thursday to skip the queue. It is good to read the information from the website before you arrive. The swimsuit has its own criteria: it should be tight-fitting for the man. Otherwise, you have to buy one from them. Some items, such as Rapido, are easy to get stuck in if you have loose-fitting swimming trunks. Most items require a minimum height of 120 cm. It is really cool for both kids and adults to ride Rapido and Waikiki. My son is 8 years old. I recommend that an 8-year-old child rides Waikiki with an adult.

Some great slides and pools. The rapids were ferocious but fun, just make sure your kids can swim enough or use the life jackets! Kids were gone for an hour or two at a time and made it out alive!

Fun & Games
Walibi Belgium is a seasonal amusement park located near Wavre, a city known for its historic castle and natural reserves. The park offers a mix of kids-only attractions, roller coasters, carousels, and an observation wheel. Easily accessible by train or car, the park has been entertaining visitors since 1975 and continues to introduce new thrill rides every few years.
So, we hit up this awesome theme park on Monday, rolling in around 10 am. Parking was super easy to find and cost us 13 bucks per car—not bad at all! Even though we got there pretty early, the place was already buzzing, so my advice? Try to arrive even earlier if you can. It’s a themed park, and honestly, the vibe is totally unique. Make sure you grab a guide brochure as soon as you walk in—super handy for planning your day. The rides are just amazing; I can’t even pick a favorite, but we ended up riding KONDAA three times—couldn’t get enough! The restrooms are spotless and kept up really well. Plus, they’re everywhere and even match the theme of each area—super cool touch. When you need a break, the food court’s a great spot. Prices for food and drinks are pretty fair for a place like this, so no complaints there. Every corner of the park looks fantastic, and I took a ton of photos—couldn’t help myself! The staff were super helpful, and loads of them spoke English, French, or Dutch, so communication was a breeze. If you want to chill, there are plenty of tables and chairs for picnics, and you’re allowed to bring your own food and drinks, which is awesome. And when it’s time for a ride, there are lockers right there so you can stash your stuff and grab it after—super convenient. Honestly, for what you pay, you get so much out of it. I’d totally recommend bringing your friends or family here for a fun day out. Big thanks to all the Walibi Belgium team for making our visit so memorable!

The waiting times are not that bad when we went on a Saturday, one week after school starts. The map is easy to understand and navigate. The bathrooms are everywhere, be easily located and well maintained. So many food options. AND, they are not that strict with food and drinks! You can bring your own snacks and eat even while queueing. The only downside we felt was, the very short time of rides… we felt a little unsatisfied for each thrills.
The G — Google review
It's a fun theme park with lots of different rides and things to do for all ages. The themes are executed well and everything looks very clean. I do recommend you skip the werewolf and vampire rollercoasters as you're more likely to get out of those two with some injury than without. Some of the staff look and act like they don't give a ..., which is a bummer and takes away from the fact that overall, you can enjoy quite a nice day here.

So proud that this is mine home park. Can recomend i try to visit as often as possible. Sadly its only weekend based operations but still it is the best park in Belgium. Best is to start with Mecalodon and from there go to Kondaa and then rest of the park. Warning the park gets crowded on haloween but christmass is suoer empty

I must say that in last two weeks we were at 6 different parks in NL and BE. But this one is from today my favorite? On app that you download for free you can see waiting time on all attractions. Food is delicious and not expensive! Also waiting time is or at least was not more then 35min at that was only on one attraction. So easy can go on other one and wait just 5min. Personal is very nice. What i also must mention is the environment, the places are very nicely managed and create perfect atmosfere.
Marek P — Google review
Terrible experience. You already pay extra for the Halloween edition (€57), and once inside, the haunted houses cost even more (€8,50). There was one haunted house free, but when we wanted to queue for it, we were told it had closed at 20:30, even though it stayed open until 22h. When we asked why, we were told, “It’s closed, can’t you see that?” with no explanation given. The food was also extremely overpriced: €9 for a dry sandwich and €6 for six tiny churros. The waiting times were even worse. Some rides had queues of more than 1.5 hours, and two attractions were out of order. To make matters worse, there were very few “freaks” or actors in costume. Only four zones had scare actors walking around, while the rest of the park there weren't. They could have done this so much better. And don’t forget the €13 parking fee at the end of the day! It was a disastrous day, definitely not recommended, and it will be the last time we visit. Please reduce the park’s capacity, that would make the experience much more enjoyable for everyone.

Groot Begijnhof Leuven is a serene and well-preserved quarter with a rich historical background. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts charming cobblestone streets, peaceful gardens, and well-maintained buildings that once housed a religious women's village. The vibrant Ladeuzeplein nearby is a hub of student life and cultural activity, featuring the striking Totem sculpture and the university library. The stunning St.
It’s such a historical location which really worth going. Full of red-bricked buildings. It seemed entering to another world. Just walk through those little streets and almost forgot the time. We just walk here amd there and took many nice pictures. This is a really amazing area. I really enjoyed the time spending there.

We’ve been living in this residence for a few years now. I must say, if you’re visiting Leuven, you absolutely shouldn’t miss Groot Begijnhof. Its historical architecture is truly mesmerizing. Every street reveals different houses and glimpses of past lives. Recently, some infrastructure work has been taking place in part of the area, so if you’re planning to visit during the summer of 2025, be aware that some entrances are closed and walking around the church might be a bit difficult.

Incredible walking experience there. There was some renovation done in some part of area but in general it’s a very enjoyable experience with exploring the small aisle and looking at the old buildings. I was there during weekday so it was pretty quiet.

Beautiful and peaceful place in the heart of Leuven. The Groot Begijnhof feels like stepping back in time with its quiet cobblestone streets, historic houses, and calm atmosphere. Perfect for a walk, some photos, or just to disconnect from the city noise. A must-see in Leuven.

I strolled through the Groot Begijnhof in Leuven and instantly felt its centuries-old charm. As I entered through the main gate, those traditional sandstone buildings and winding cobblestone lanes made me feel like I had stepped back in time. Each house, some with striking crow-stepped gables and tiny old windows, reveals layers of history and story. The peaceful courtyards and scenic river views added to the atmosphere. This restored “town-within-a-town” is a unique place and quiet yet full of character, offering an authentic glimpse into Leuven’s past and the life once led by its beguines.

The Groot Begijnhof in Leuven is a beautifully preserved 13th-century beguinage and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once home to religious women called beguines, it features cobbled streets, red-brick houses, gardens, and stone bridges over the River Dijle. Restored in the 1960s, it now belongs to KU Leuven and serves as housing for students and professors. It’s a peaceful quarter perfect for a quiet walk through history.

Leuven Oude Markt is a lively and vibrant town square in Leuven, Belgium, known for its bustling atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. The square is adorned with charming open-air bars and restaurants housed in ornate gabled mansions, creating a delightful setting for visitors to enjoy shopping, dining, and nightlife. During the academic year, the population of the area is largely comprised of students, resulting in an abundance of cafes and student deals at restaurants.
Little gem of a town of the standard tourist track, with lovely medieval streets and plenty of cafes/bars/restaurants in the centre. Head out towards the Begijnhof to experience some really old cobbled streets that seem to be untouched by modern standards

Great Square, Cozy and Good Bars that offer wide choices of Drinks and Beers. Practically the Nightlife Center of Leuven. Great for tourists that stay here for few days because each bar offer a small free entry dancing space and get crowded often. The Historic Leuven Town Hall, located on the Grote Markt, is a stunning example of 15th-century Gothic architecture. Adorned with spires and 236 sculptures representing local scholars, artists, and nobles from the city's history, it stands as an iconic sight in Leuven. Despite surviving wars and even a WWII bomb that failed to explode, the town hall remains an impressive symbol of resilience.
The Royal Palace of Brussels (Palais Royal de Bruxelles) stands as a prominent landmark in the city and serves as the official palace of the Belgian monarchy. Situated in the heart of Brussels, it faces the Brussels Park (Parc de Bruxelles). While it is not the royal family's residence—they live in the Castle of Laeken—the palace hosts official state functions and events.

This building is certainly one that has impressed me the most while visiting Leuven. It is centre of Leuven. Leuven's Town Hall is the historic city's pièce de résistance. Moreover, it's one of the best-known Gothic town halls worldwide. It took three architects and thirty years to build it. Leuven's 'Hall of Fame' features 235 statues, which were only added to the facade after 1850.
Shubham M — Google review
A beautiful building in the center of Leuven with 235 statues to admire. It’s a must see if you are visiting Leuven. There are daily one hour tours in Dutch and English and on the weekend in French. In these tours you visit the interior of the building while learning about the history. The cost is 4 euros and you can buy tickets in the tourist office around the corner. Starting in September 2024, this building will be closed for renovation until 2029. So if you want to take a tour, I would recommend doing it now!

Spectacular building with a Flemish Gothic façade, although the remains of Leuven's first town hall, built in 1439 and located on the main square, are no longer preserved. It has been destroyed and rebuilt three times in the last hundred years, the last time after the Second World War. On the outside we can see 236 statues, all of them of important figures in the history of the city, arranged by floors: on the ground floor we find academics and artists, on the ground floor religious figures, on the first floor members of the nobility and finally, at the top of the towers, scenes from the Bible are represented.

The Universiteitsbibliotheek en bibliotheektoren, also known as the University Library and Library Tower, is a must-see attraction in the city. The library's stunning architecture and vast collection of books make it a sight to behold. Visitors can explore the interior of the library and even access the tower for panoramic views of the city. The building has a rich history, having served three different universities over the years.
The library underwent severe bombings and damage during two world wars but re-built again. It is a mixture of the old and new. The clocktower gives you the best view over Leuven. The small photos and explanations on the sides of the top balcony tells you what each building is. The entrance is free to students and 7 euros for adults.

The Universiteitsbibliotheek en bibliotheektoren (KU Leuven library and tower) is worth a visit. The exterior alone is eye catching. To tour the library and tower, purchase tickets onsite, download the app to hear the audio guide (remember to bring your headphones / earplugs) and enjoying learning about the history of the historic landmark. Touring the tower includes at least 150 steps from the entrance to the tower up to the top. The ascent is broken up with information provided on each floor. Both the tour of the library and the tower is highly informative and includes the history of the library and the international ties that made the refurbishment of this historic landmark possible. For the visit, there are lockers for free for anything you are carrying with you are it is prohibited to enter with bags of any kind. Highly recommend. Entrance including tour of the tower was €8.
Nanita — Google review
The building is absolutely stunning from the outside. We paid €2 each for the student-rate library tour, which included entry to the room shown in the photos. However, access was limited to a small 2x3 meter area — we weren’t allowed to walk around or explore further. In our opinion, the library tour alone isn’t worth it, as everything you’ll see is already shown in the photos. The ticket also includes a mobile app tour audio, but unfortunately, it didn’t work for us. We didn’t do the tower tour, so we can’t speak to that experience. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Louis W — Google review
You have pretty limited access to the library but it could be because the students are actively using them. The main attraction at least is to visit the tower. It’s not too high but you get a clear view of the city from the top.
Cita W — Google review
Beautiful library worth a visit even if not to read. It was rebuilt after the 1914 fire, but it still has beautiful wood panelling, large windows and huge industrial, early 1900 lamps. We visited when it was open to the public, otherwise visitors can enter the library by buying a daily card (5 eur?).
Ambra N — Google review
It’s worth a visit. It costs 8 euros for library and tower. Not much you can see at the library itself. After the fifth floor (289 steps) to get to the tower but the view is spectacular.

De Koninck - Antwerp City Brewery, located on Mechelsesteenweg, offers self-guided interactive tours and tasting sessions where visitors can learn about the local beer brewing process and sample the high fermentation beverage in a unique tub-shaped glass.
We had an unforgettable time at the Sunday brewery tasting at De Koninck! Luca, our host, was outstanding—knowledgeable, charismatic, and clearly passionate about beer and food pairing. The selection of beers was excellent, and the carefully paired meat and cheese truly elevated the experience. It was fascinating to see how each bite complemented or balanced the beers so perfectly. However, there’s a bit of a downside to the Sunday afternoon setup. While the tasting itself was fantastic, we were disappointed that we couldn’t explore the interactive tour or purchase the amazing meats and cheeses featured in the tasting afterward, as the shops and expo were closed. It feels a bit counterintuitive and a missed commercial opportunity for De Koninck. That said, Luca and the tasting itself were fantastic. A must-visit for beer and food enthusiasts alike! 🍻🧀

If you are a beer lover this place it's simply a "must" in Antwerp. Very interesting interactive tour throughout the brewery, super cool environment and, more over, delicious selection of beers. The access is included in Antwerp City Pass. Absolutely recommended 👌

As a wine fanatic, this was so much fun to do. I'm still new to the beer lifestyle so I'm trying to figure out what beer agrees with my palette. Before you begin the tour, they pour you a glass of their Bolleke beer in a Belgian glass that almost resembles a wine glass. The tour is completely self-guided which is perfectly done. The timing between the groups are pretty accurate so there is no long delays between the groups/appointments. The videos that play on the screens are easy to follow and they are done in various languages (English, Dutch, French and German). The tour also offers other interactive options such as quizzes and pouring yourself a beer. Once you are done with the tour there is a bar and restaurant to chill and have something to eat and drink. Definitely something worth doing when you are in Antwerp.

I found this brewery on Google and decided to visit it because I am a beer lover. The ticket price is 16 euros and a beer is included in the tour. As a plus, the staff is young and funny. They welcomed me warmly and the tour is easy and well organized. The ticket price could be lower but it is ok because they offer you a beer. The negative point in my opinion is that the tour is a bit short and sometimes boring. Belgium has a great tradition of beer and it could be explained better. At the end of the tour, you can sit down at the bar and drink some beers of the brewery or buy some souvenir at the gift shop.

Rubenshuis is a museum located in the 17th-century home of the renowned artist Peter Paul Rubens. The house showcases his paintings, sculptures, and tapestries, offering a glimpse into the life and work of this influential figure. The elaborate portico and temple, designed by Rubens himself in Italian Baroque style, stand as a testament to his artistic vision.
Unfortunately the house is under renovation (the artworks are currently housed in KMSKA), but you can still see the garden. It's really lovely this time of the year, with all the different varieties of tulips. We got in with the museum pass, but the standard ticket is a bit pricey perhaps. Still, a nice quiet spot.

This review is for the Garden since the house is still undergoing renovation. The garden, however, is beautiful and the view of the house from the back is much more charming than from the street side. Also important to note that the garden is CLOSED on Wednesdays. If you glance at the open times briefly you might miss that important piece of info (as I did).

Meir is a bustling street in Antwerp, known for its shops, historic residences, and a neoclassical theater. The pedestrianized area is the main shopping hub with various national and international brands. For unique finds, visitors can explore the alleyways of the Historic Centre or visit Kloosterstraat for antiques and bric-a-brac. Additionally, there are upscale stores and boutiques located south of Grote Markt offering luxury brands like Gucci and Diane von Furstenberg.
A long street lined with shops, bustling with people. It stretches from the central station all the way into the city center. You’ll find all kinds of stores here, offering just about anything you might want.

Great place for a magnificent shopping and eating experience there is always some kind of new music being played by amazing musicians and beautiful sound of piano also. Busy at times but that is clear proof of how amazing and how much variety is available here. Big branded clothing and cosmetics also available here that to at cheap pricing. A variety of choices for restaurant and elegent cuisine, and also a chance to taste the famous belgian chocolate and belgian waffles. A must check out.

Hampton by Hilton Antwerp Central Station is a budget-friendly hotel with a gym and free breakfast, as well as views of the city's railway station.
Great hotel and location to center and train station. Very quite. Morning breakfast was great and accommodating especially for gluten free options had to ask but they delivered. Could leave luggage while you wait for your room 3pm.
Kevin V — Google review
Absolutely the best. I got such a nice room with a great view to the station. Spacious and superclean room. Friendly and very helpful front desk staff. Excellent breakfast. Only complain I might have would be the smokers on the front entrance due to close proximity of the bus stop.
Vesa P — Google review
Very good hotel right opposite the Antwerp train station. I’ve given it 5* for location as I wanted to be close to the station. It is about a 15 minute walking into the ‘old town’ Rooms very comfortable and modern. Staff were incredibly helpful and kind Decent included breakfast.

Hampton by Hilton Antwerp is in a very convenient location—just steps away from Central Station. The hotel is quite good and up to standard. The in-room amenities are complete, the place is clean, and the service is great. Jesse, the front desk staff we met on the first day, was cheerful and provided us with a lot of helpful information. Breakfast was decent.

We had a fabulous stay at the Hampton Hotel Antwerp. The location is right across ghe road from the train station which makes exploration of Belgium so convenient. The staff was super friendly and attentive to all our needs. Sorry that I do not know all their names but Lesley stands out as a great example of great service and for caring about his guests. Highly recommended

Great Diamond member recognition. Nice staff, specious room and happy atmosphere. The best part of the hotel is the unbeatable location. Near to the central station, restaurants, supermarkets and zoo. Perfect for family with kids.

Not a great hotel for families. Rooms very dated. Carpets in the rooms and nasty stains all over them, feels very dirty. Bed like a block of wood and pillows with filling all knotted and bunched in places. No sound proofing at all so can hear people in the hallways, and very busy train station right outside so very loud. Parking very far, so if coming with a car avoid this hotel at all costs, if not for the reasons above anyway. Arrived at 11pm with 2 very tired children, 2 and 4 years old. No parking at all outside, risked parking in the road for a few minutes while unloading the bags. Asked wife to go and check in so I could park the car. Parking is 15/20 minutes away including walk back to hotel. Asked my wife to check in and go to the room. Her purse and phone was in the car in the hurry. When I got to the hotel they were still at reception and was told receptionist wouldn’t give the key because the tourist tax had to be paid. I asked the receptionist why couldn’t you give my wife and kids the room key as I was coming back and it’s 11pm for a 2 and 4 year old who were very restless and making it difficult for wife to look after. Fee was only €5 and all she said is I can’t give it, there’s cameras all over watching me. It’s such a stupid excuse, and doesn’t care about customers at all and their struggles. Wife was struggling for 20 minutes with 2 children who were rolling around the floor while she just watched on. They could have been in bed, and all for €5 which we were obviously going to pay anyway, along with the parking costs at the reception. Had to come back to pay that after anyway for a parking garage which was a while away. I then asked if the request we made for a cot in the room was seen and if there was a cot. She said I can see your request so there will be a cot in the room, and if there isn’t just let us know. She didn’t care at all. Surprise surprise no cot in the room, so waited another 20 minutes with the kids for the cot to be bought up. Wished we never booked this hotel, staff with no empathy or care for customers. Avoid at all costs.

I stayed at the Hampton by Hilton Antwerp Central Station for six nights to participate in a technical meeting that was held nearby at A Room with a ZOO. The hotel was an excellent value, well-located, and offered traveler-friendly services. Breakfast in the morning and the house bar at night were highlights.

Zoo Antwerpen, one of the oldest zoos in the world, is conveniently located in the city center and offers a delightful experience for visitors of all ages. The zoo houses a diverse range of exotic animals, including elephants, flamingos, lions, and monkeys. It also features daily penguin feedings and sea lion shows. With its state-of-the-art enclosures and breeding programs, Zoo Antwerpen combines history with modern facilities.
Absolutely wonderful zoo! I had a ton of fun, the animals are beautiful. I took over 500 photos, luckily I brought an extra battery for my phone! I’d suggest that you bring your own food, it’s a bit overpriced imo, but I’m not super familiar with Belgian prices, so maybe it’s okay.

We had such a great time at this zoo! At first, I thought it would be just another boring zoo, but it turned out to be a really fun experience. We loved seeing all the different animals and fish, and the park itself is very clean and well maintained. It also made for a lovely date with my husband. I’d definitely recommend this place as a date spot.
Diana S — Google review
This zoo looks very nice, animals have a lot of space for a zoo in the city center. It is a great place to spend a day in nature in the city as the zoo looks like a big garden. You can see koalas!
Jovana V — Google review
Visited during the Ocean themed light festival. Great experience for my 2 years old and honestly for us parents too. Ve also enjoyed lunch at the restaurant by the flamingo.
Margherita V — Google review
Excellent zoo in the heart of the city. It is easily accessible since it is located right next to the Central Station. You can spend half a day walking through the animal park. There are several food stops and 2 restaurants where you can sit properly to eat a full meal. There are enough lavatories throughout the zoo in case you are visiting with children. The souvenir shop is at the entrace and is also where you can purchase your tickets.
C. C — Google review
We had a great day here! We went in the day time to see the animals, though a load was under construction unfortunately. We also went at night to the magic ocean event, which was amazing!! Pricey, but very very well done. Enjoy the many photos I took! :)
Lara V — Google review
Beautifully maintained zoo with happy animals who are the closest ive ever seen of any zoo in the world. Kids and adults will equally enjoy this place and it should not take more than 2-3 hrs to fully complete. It's right next to the must see train station and across the chocolate nation museum. Together it's a full day of fun!
Sam E — Google review
Beautiful zoo within the city centre of Antwerpen. Few of the zoo buildings have beautiful historic architecture which makes the zoo unique. Lots of healthy and well taken care of animals. They have the typical big four of a safari. They have different theme on each location and a well thought out sequence of path to follow. The butterfly sanctuary is one the most beautiful I've seen and within a historic building. Touring the zoo will take at 2 to 4 hours. Check for the zoo schedule beforehand such as the lion feeding and scuba diving show in the aquarium. Perfect place to bring your family.

MAS - Museum aan de Stroom

Specialty Museums
The Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) is a stunning architectural gem in Antwerp, crafted from striking red sandstone and glass. This ambitious museum delves into the city's rich history within a global context across five engaging floors of exhibits. Visitors can explore diverse themes such as trade, mythology, and cultural symbols through an impressive collection that includes everything from pre-Columbian artifacts to World War II gas masks.
This museum is located in the outstanding red-brick building near the river. The museum is quite pricey, but getting to the rooftop for the views is free of charge. Getting to the top requires you to take the escalators to the 10th floor. There you will see a 360-degree panorama views of the city - from the city centre to the industrial area. It’s incredible, to be fair. There are some sitting spaces inside on some floors with the views as well. Great for a tired tourist to sit and enjoy. One of the must-visits in Antwerp and is truly great.
Nataliia S — Google review
There are two version of the ticket. Museum has a ticket. However, to go on the top floor, there is no ticket, It’s free and worth the view of the city. It’s little walk to the museum from city center/train station. But walk is enjoyable to the museum from the city center as you go through the historical places and shopping district.

An outstanding building not to be missed when visiting Antwerp! Although we could not visit the museum as we arrived too late, we found out that we can still enter the building and go up the terrasse to see a great panorama of the city. By the generosity of the city, it was open, and we discovered the wonderful building clad in red stone and glass. Amazing piece of architecture, a block in spiral almost rising from the water. We took the escalator and we admired floor after floor the sights of the harbour and the city at sunset. Must return for visiting the museum, the permanent collection and many exhibitions!
George O — Google review
An amazing building ten floors high with an open roof. I had tickets for all the private exhibitions which I would recommend. The curved glass exterior is a marvel in itself. The rest is built in a red brick tile on much of the ceilings and walls inside and outside. A must see.
Graham S — Google review
An outstanding building for architecture and for views over Antwerp. Each floor of this museum presents either temporary exhibitions, a selection from the permanent collection or other services as the building is a hub for visitors coming for a meal or to enjoy the viewing platform. I spent time in two temporary exhibitions and was so impressed with the curation. I learnt so much! The entire site around the museum is also fantastic - the water, the cafes and the gift shop. The entire site is a work of art. Catch the tram from town. This destination is a must in Antwerp.
Kazz C — Google review
Very cool, fantastic modern building with great views over the low-rise city. We did not see the exhibition (we were there mainly for the architecture and views), but you can enjoy the surrounds and view for free! Highly recommended.
Kristoff L — Google review
A must-visit cultural landmark in Antwerp. the building itself is architectural marvel and worth the visit. Inside, you'll find a thoughtfully curated and unique collection that spans diverse themes — from local maritime history to global trade, and even an impressive section on World War II that offers powerful insight on the city’s history under occupation. What sets MAS apart is the way it connects Antwerp’s local story to global narratives. The exhibits are visually engaging and often interactive, making the experience enriching and accessible. Don’t miss the free rooftop panorama terrace — it offers stunning 360° views of the city and port, perfect for a relaxing end to your visit. Whether you're into history, architecture, or just looking for a great viewpoint, MAS delivers on all fronts.

I was ready to skip this stop in Antwerp, but glad we didn't. Impressive building with very interesting collections. I wasn't very sure what the overarching theme was, but it appears to just be 'Antwerp' through several themes/lenses. Fairly inexpensive as far as museums go! Backpacks are apparently not allowed? Although they didn't bother to tell me until I got escorted out of the 3rd gallery we entered!

I don't understand why spas that have rub it anti limescale shower heads, still let the showers get so gummed up with limescale that the water goes everywhere and the spray is weak. Here too unfortunately. The spa is lovely and has nice saunas, but needs better maintenance. The salt scrub had 2 different colours, but no scent, so what's the point? I enjoyed the opgiet and it was not super busy which was nice. The lady behind the reception was lovely. Comfy seats in the restaurant. It was all in all OK, but I won't be back, there are better places around.

Very nice sauna
Maily G — Google review
Great place to relax and wind down. Chill vibes and customers too. Facilities are well-kept, modern and with a beautiful view of the trees outside the domain. It feels a bit like a hidden place inside the forest. My girlfriend felt totally comfortable as well, NO staring guys etc! This is not the case in another nude sauna I won’t name here. You can just be yourself. We had a carbonara and a beef burger, both were great! Large portion sizes as well. Wine of the house was decent too. I’d recommend getting food before 6PM as otherwise you might need to wait a little bit. We spent around €150 in total but if you bring your own bathrobe, towel and slippers you’ll save around €50. I do wish the outside jacuzzi was a bit warmer, and being allowed to bring a water bottle would be a nice gesture.

We had spend an amasing day! Very clean and quite. Sausa's on good temperaturе, a lot of green beautiful views, very good restaurant. Highly recommended!

Small but definetly worth it! We paid our entrance double by mistake but it was already resolved by the next day.

The experience was mostly good. Clean and nice facilities. I just wish they had put some lounge chairs on the first floor. The only 'lounge area' inside was in the basement in a dark corner. The food was very tasty, large portions and moderately priced. Only if the waitress hadn't been so unfriendly, we'd have enjoyed the restaurant better.
Ji — Google review
Lovely experience, friendly staff and good food. However, the saunas and jacuzzis were quite cold just after opening times.
