Love the guys here, it's like visiting family! At first glance it seems like a very small animal park and you might wonder how long you'll be there for.... and then you get chatting with the owners ☺️. The philosophy and gentle training techniques give amazingly happy animals and fantastic results. A 10 month old gosling who can pick out a bottle of rose wine from among any other bottles, every time. Incredible! You get to feed the animals, brush a camel and watch the brilliant llama show, guess what animal different knitted samples have come from, make bracelets from animal wool. Great fun. We've been twice and hope to return next summer.

We visited La Maison des Chameaux for the first time last summer whilst on holiday and again this week as my two children age 11 and 8 loved it so much! Sarah and Paul who own the farm are so friendly and welcoming and you get a real sense of how much they really love and care for the animals. My children loved hearing about the animals various characters and how they came to be on the farm. My absolute favourite was Carla the pig who seemed more like a dog, following the children about and wagging her tail. As well as feeding and petting the animals, there was also walking the llama, training an alpaca and brushing the camels. Lots of educational things to discover too including learning about the different types of wool from the various animals. The farm is an ideal place to spend an afternoon and a fantastic environment for children to experience lots of different types of animals in a relaxed and fun environment.

The exceptional hostess with children, even those who are fidgety. Family of 5 children from 3 to 13 years old, everyone found what they wanted there. A simple, very friendly place to which we will definitely return. Small downside Walking path too short for walk enthusiasts. Basilica of St. Pius X

Mentioned on
20 lists
Basilica
Sights & Landmarks
The Basilica of St. Pius X, also known as the Underground Basilica, is a significant site in the Religious Town. It is a massive subterranean church designed in a brutalist style and can accommodate around 25,000 worshippers. Despite its unconventional appearance, it serves as a place of worship for special events such as the anniversary of the apparitions.
This massive underground church is a must see! The reach was incredible, I'm not even sure how many people can fit down there. There are banners hanging all throughout with pictures of different saints. It starts at the entrance to the sanctuary and reaches all the way to the Basilica of the Rosary. It's huge
Jennifer C — Google review
it was wonderful, participating in the eucharistic procession, praying and thereafter arriving at this basilica for adoration and thereafter kneeling in heartfelt repentance to receive the Lord’s blessings as the priests brought the blessed sacrament to the faithful
Mark C — Google review
Beautifully located underground contemporary concrete construction and well presented with good decor and seating for hundreds of pilgrims the Basilica offers solitude and peace in prayers.
Mas — Google review
An enormous underground basilica located to the left as soon as you enter the sanctuary from the main entrance. We attended the main international mass (Sundays) and 5pm adoration that take place here. It can accommodate a lot of people, there are sufficient seats here and there's wheelchair access. The sound and lighting setup is also great to experience the events well.
Reuben D — Google review
Everytime I went in here, something in me opens up .. and I want to be a better person. So serene .. for a Basilica that can hold 20,000 people at once.
Marcellino S — Google review
Interesting place, a huge concrete cavern under, in a "brutalist" style. Usually open during tgd day. Worth looking in.
Glen C — Google review
The Basilica of St. Pius X in Lourdes is an extraordinary place of worship that left a deep impression on me. As one of the largest underground basilicas in the world, its sheer size is awe-inspiring, and the modern architectural design is both unique and fitting for such a significant spiritual site. The atmosphere inside the basilica is one of profound peace and reverence. Despite its capacity to hold thousands of pilgrims, the space feels surprisingly intimate, making it an ideal setting for prayer and reflection. The simplicity of the concrete arches and minimalist decor enhances the sense of calm and allows visitors to focus on the spiritual experience. One thing to note, however, is that there were quite a few mosquitoes inside, which was a bit of an annoyance during our visit. While it didn’t detract from the overall experience, it’s something to be aware of, especially if you’re sensitive to insect bites.
Trung-Tin D — Google review
Completely awesome space. Had a fabulous pipe organ. Had great posters of at least 100 saints. Unlike any basilica you've been to. It's like an upsidedown boat.

As a catholic, I’m writing this review with great pleasure and joy. It was my first time in Lourdes and I felt so special and blessed. Please note there’s a candlelight procession happening at 9pm at night every day from April to October. Also there are several mass services in different churches in the premises. You can buy bottles from near by shops and fill holy water. There’s staff that help you with information and guiding you through. Have a pleasant pilgrimage Our Lady of Lourdes, Pray for us

If you are a devotee of the Mother of Jesus Mary, if you are desperate for healing, this place makes miracles. So many devotees from around the world would flock this Holy place. So many proven miracles of healing that science couldn't explain. A beautiful place for everyone to experience the love of Mother Mary expressed through feelings of hope and love for Jesus and his mother.

A Place of Deep Faith, Peace, and Healing The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is one of the most moving and spiritual places in the world. From the moment you enter the grounds, there is an overwhelming sense of peace, faith, and reverence. The atmosphere is filled with quiet devotion, where pilgrims from all over the world come to pray, reflect, and find healing. The Grotto of Massabielle, where the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette, is incredibly serene — especially during the evening candlelight procession, a truly unforgettable experience of unity and prayer. The basilicas, chapels, and walkways are beautifully maintained, and everything radiates a feeling of hope and grace. Whether you visit for spiritual reasons or simply to experience its profound tranquility, Lourdes touches the heart in a very special way. A sacred destination that inspires faith and peace beyond words.

Massabielle Grotto, located in the south-western part of France, is a 31-foot deep limestone cave and religious pilgrimage site. A holy place 🤍🙏I was there several times. Sometimes there are a lot of people but always you can find a place to pray and stay calm.

As soon as you get to Lourdes the air, the senses and everything comes alive. Unfortunately I went without faith but with the knowledge that it was one of our Lady's home. In hindsight it made all the difference in my reversion. Go, with or without faith, Our Mother will love you regardless and grant you graces accordingly.
S. D — Google review
The place where st Bernadette Soubirous is said to have seen the Lourdes apparitions is called the "grotto of Massabielle", which is the most famous place in the sanctuary. The Lourdes water flows from a spring located inside the cave. From 2014 to 2018, the surroundings of the grotto were modified to facilitate the passing of pilgrims through the various facilities around the grotto. A new esplanade was built on the banks, taps providing water from the spring were moved away from the grotto while new fountains for pilgrims were created, baths were renovated and a new bridge was built. Chapel of lights were built on the right bank for pilgrims to light candles.

Gaube Lake

Mentioned on

Lake
Nature & Parks
Nestled in the Pyrenees National Park, Gaube Lake offers a picturesque alpine setting with hiking trails and a waterfront restaurant. Accessible by chair lift or a two-hour hike from the Pont d'Espagne, visitors can also explore nearby attractions like the Gave de Jeret and Gave de Lutour waterfalls. Adventurous travelers can opt for a challenging trek uphill or take gondolas followed by a scenic 1.5km walk to reach the lake.
The best view ever! There are 3 ways to go up to the lake! Buy cable car, and 2 paths, one is full of stones, kind of like stairs. Definitely challenging and if its rainy day, skip that one! Other is just uphill, i personally prefer that one. Who hike a lot can go to the lake in 1h but who does not (me), it take 2h minimum. But...its worth it!
Marina N — Google review
À two hours walk up and down from the car park accessing the site. One advice, put some sturdy thick waterproof shoes as the path can be both rocky and very wet.
Christophe B — Google review
Cable car, chair lift and 15mins walk to lake. If you buy a ticket you get free car parking. The walk down is lovely, but difficult in places. Please wear good footwear
Lloyd P — Google review
Beautiful lake in the mountains. An hour climbing from the parking and then you get a great view on the lake and the surrounding mountains, which can be enjoyed from the terrace of the L’Hotelerie. And easy to go down with the “telesiege”
Jasper F — Google review
It was a splendid day, enjoyed nature, highly recommended…
Ayşe — Google review
Lac de Gaube boasts an altitude of 1,725 metres. There are two ways to get to Lake Gove. The first way is to go up to the middle of the mountain on the summer lift. Get off the lift and walk for about 20 minutes to reach Lake Gove. For those with a lot of energy, I recommend a one-and-a-half hour hike along the pine forest path after crossing the Spanish Bridge (Pont d’Espagne). If you reach Lake Gove by any means you choose, you will be able to enjoy the spectacular view of the 3,298 meter high peak of Vignemale Mountain reflected on the clear water. Strongly recommend to give a visit.
공짜장 K — Google review
Beautiful Lake with great hiking trails
Luc — Google review
It’s a good two hour hike with breaks for lunch from the Parking to the lake. You can choose to hike up and come down using the telesiege/telecabin (we did this ) although most people prefer taking the lift up and then trekking down :) either way it’s a beautiful lake and even if you take a return trip with the ski lifts, there’s a nice track all around the lake which is a good walk .. I did the hike with my 6 year old (first hike) uphill and she managed luckily ;)we saw many kids hiking down .. the bar/cafe at the lake is good but only accepts CASH/cheque so carry cash!! Carry a big trash bag as you are not allowed to throw trash along the way and need to carry it back to the parking :)

Pont d'Espagne

Bridge
Pont d'Espagne is a picturesque national park valley and historic trading route that offers stunning waterfalls and ridges, accessible by chairlift. The area features a large, well-organized car park with free parking if you take the lifts to the top. A gondola takes visitors to the bridge and an impressive waterfall with a nearby restaurant. From there, a chairlift or a 1.
I've been here 25 years ago and it's great to be back once in this place. You can just hang around, but it's a good starting point for beautiful hikes in the mountains (what I did) also lovely walks like the "waterfall walk" (centier des cascades). Been here in June and it was not too busy, guess it can be really crowded in summer, luckily there's a huge parking nearby.
Maarten C — Google review
Nice waterfall and nature place. Dogs not allowed. Not friendly for strollers and toddlers.
Venkatesan D — Google review
My daughter and I had a fabulous walk to Pont d’Espagne and then took the chair lift up to the lake. The €24 ticket price (for two) saved the €8 parking, and was well worth it. The lake was a beautiful landscape to roam about in. But the icing on the cake was the walk/scramble back down the path - a truly memorable walk in the mountains!!
Andrew D — Google review
It was such a magical and mesmerising sight 🩵 The view is amazing! People go hiking here as well which is around 3 hours I heard but we took the télésiège (chairlift). It was closed two weeks ago but it is finally open since the weather allows it. There are two, the first one is a closed capsule and a shorter ride to one base, from there you can walk further, we took the second chairlift which was open as it is also used by skiers during winters. It was mildly scary because we were a bit afraid of the height but it is taken by multiple people for years now so we safely made it. While coming back down it was a little scarier as it kept pausing but that was due to many people getting on so they had to hold and adjust as they had kids along as well. Overall a fun experience as it gets you to the Lac de Gaube and Pont d'Espagne!
Roma C — Google review
Good starting point for some epic hiking! (Or shorter walks if you have to 😉) Lots of parking, but would advise getting there nice and early. Alternatively, there's a regular shuttle bus service from Cauterets - check with the local tourist office for timings.
John E — Google review
Amazing hike to the bridge and then to the lake. 8€ parking. Map attached
Philip S — Google review
Picturesque place 🥰😍 It took around 15 minutes to get to the bridge as it was raining, everything was wet and it was a little bit dangerous to go on foot. But the rain didn't spoil the atmosphere of the mountains, waterfalls, nature if incredible here!
Halyna Y — Google review
Practical information first. The car park is large and well organised, and the parking is free if you take the lifts to the top. Else it is between 7-10 euro for the day. There is a gondola which takes you to the bridge and an amazing waterfall with a restaurant. The walk to this part is quick and easy so perhaps the gondola is not needed. After that there is a chairlift to the top or a 1.5 hour walk. At the end of the chairlift it is a 15 minute easy walk to the lake. You can swim in the lake but it is very cold! Also available at the top is a restaurant but take some cash because there is not much service so sometimes cards do not work. There is a walk you can do halfway around the lake which takes about 25 minutes. It’s a pretty rocky walk. The lake is beautiful and the mountains that surround it are amazing. I recommend this visit to anyone.

Grottes de Bétharram offers a captivating underground adventure through limestone caves adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors can explore the caverns on foot, as well as enjoy a unique journey on an underground river by boat and a ride on a small train. The guided tour lasts about an hour and a half, providing an organized and entertaining experience for both adults and children. With friendly guides and audio guides available in multiple languages, the visit is made even more enjoyable.
We've been in Lourdes every year and it's only this year we tried to visit this place. We visited last April 4 around 2pm and It's amazing! We even get a 10% discount from our hotel accommodation. We truly enjoyed our tour. The guide was so kind and knowledgeable and tried to accommodate every person.
M M — Google review
If you're in thr Pyrénées the this is absolutely worth a stop. Beautiful formations a really informative guide and a fun train ride. Note that the accessible regions would still require some ability to walk because its not fully wheelchair friendly and some sections are very steep and it would be a hard push. Would actually say taking a wheelchair here is not a good idea. But other than that it's a great experience.
Crystal D — Google review
A visit to these caves is a must for everyone! They are huge, beautiful, interesting, and the boat and train ride are fantastic. Admission cost 17 euros per adult, our kids entered for free as they are younger than 4 years old. A bus picked us up from the free-of-charge car park and brought us to the entry of the caves. From there we started our journey through the mountain. The guide was experienced and Audio-Guides in various languages were available. These sometimes stop working but the guide can provide quick assistance. The geology of the caves are stunning. We really enjoyed our visit here although we didn't have time to visit the store and café at the end. We'll be back!
Pascal B — Google review
An excellent experience, containing a short boat ride and a train. The caves are beautiful and there are many stalagmites and stalactites to discover. Our guide, Gaston, was excellent and had a lot of insights into the cave, as well as many jokes along the way. One thing to be aware of, the cave water makes people go slightly bonkers while in the cave.
Alex C — Google review
The best cave system I have ever visited and I have seen a few over 60 years in many countries. There are audio guides available in several languages. The combination of a bus ride, walking, boat ride and a train ride makes the whole experience unique.
Andy L — Google review
Very impressive experience goes 5 level down in the cave - the start doesn't look much impressive but wait untill you go down and start about 1km walk between the rocks. Hint: We bought online tickets for a dedicated time slot and arrived there 15min earlier as recommended. It all went smoothly and we were inside within 15min. You need to park your car and then take the shuttle to arrive the entrance of the cave. The tour guides speak French and if you do not speak French audio guides available in many languages which is good enough however you wouldmiss the jokes and additional information unless you have someone to translate for you :)
Merve G — Google review

Unfortunately, the guide only spoke French, you had a headset that translated English at certain stations pre-recorded, The guide continued to speak in French, pointing out specific things to the group, If you do not understand French, you’re missing out on all of the jokes and interesting things, along with answering questions. French patrons were laughing many times at what the guide was saying, it was not on the pre-recording for translation. Then, at the end of the tour, the guide asked for tips, even though we did not understand what he was asking for, gestures, such as putting his hat out open like a peasant on the street without explaining or translating in English, very disappointing, disrespected, our language barrier. Recommend if you understand and speak French, but other than that, probably not worth your time.

Sights & Landmarks
Bd des Pyrénées is a picturesque boulevard that offers stunning views of gardens, valleys, and distant mountain peaks. Stretching over a mile from east to west, this boulevard is lined with 19th-century mansions, hotels, and cafes. It serves as a grand viewing terrace providing one of the best vistas of the jagged Pyrenean mountains. The panorama has its own official appellation called Horizons Palois to protect it for posterity.
We love living here.

The Funicular in Pau is a historic railway that has been operating for over a century, connecting the lower and upper parts of the town. It runs from the train station to Boulevard des Pyrenees, offering stunning panoramic views of the mountains along the way. This free service has been available to visitors since 1978 and is popular among locals as well. The short 3-minute ride is perfect for children and offers a unique way to travel between the city center and the train station.
It was a fun activity to do since we were so close to centre. It reminded me of a train that operated using water and pulled the trains in opposite directions. Here as one went up the other went down. They have a little history in it at the bottom near the big train station in Pau. We just rode it because it was there, looked cute /antique and free!!
Ilynn M — Google review
What a fun way to get from Pau train station to the upper part of the city. It takes you directly to the Chateau de Pau and wonderful restaurants and shops. And there is no charge?
Susan T — Google review
This is a wonderful old for Nicola train. It doesn’t go particularly far, but it is free to ride on and runs every five minutes or so. It takes you from the lower area of the city near the train station up to the upper part of the town a fun thing to do
G M — Google review
Free transport between the city centre and the train station in Pau... But not the usual way. The Funicular is a historic piece of art and worth a ride, even if you don't need to go to the station! The cabins quickly fill with people and the two trains set off, meet in the middle and touch down at the opposite end. The view from up here to the mountains is spectacular too!
Pascal B — Google review
Awesome. It is worth the wait and money.
R A — Google review
Not much to see at the bottom, but why miss a free ride on something that is part of history and free? Not much of that around! It leaves every 5 or so minutes and the trip is not more than than 3 or 4.

Open seasonally, Europe's highest train is this narrow-gauge tourist railway in the French Pyrenees.
Amazing day out, fabulous views and scenery, even saw a Marmot. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Allow nearly a full day though. We caught the 11 am train and got back to the campervan at 3 pm. €27 each.
Gary J — Google review
Amazing scenery and our ticket included the cable car to the train station, the return trip to the lake and plenty of time to walk to the lake, dam, still leaving time for food. Great value and would highly recommend. Cafe/restaurant at the upper station and a snack bar at the lake itself. It is a mountain, bring layers and a rain jacket!
Sean M — Google review
Amazing train tour! Better to plan a day for this mountain adventure. Large parking area right in front of the cable car. Few coffee shops there. Take the lift for 10-15 min ride and you end up at the train station, decent cafeteria there with breathtaking views, nice terrace, good food and beer, normal prices. The train raid after that takes almost 1h. Spectacular views all along to the last stop. Then you have more than 1h to explore the area, nice lake, then you can come back, another 1h. I cannot recommend this for children under 5. The train raid is ok, but the 15min walk to the lake wouldn’t be suitable for families with babies or very young children.
Stoyan N — Google review
Stunning & slightly hair-raising adventure on the highest train in Europe! No snow when we visited but an amazing experience in the Pyrenees. Wonderful views on the way up to the train via cable car, watch the marmots play, & listen out for the cowbells.
David P — Google review
Good fun. Take a warm jacket as the return journey is much in the shade in the afternoon and gets chilly. In September there is only a lake at the top. I was hoping for coffee and a toilet. The walk from the train to the lake is not for anyone with mobility or breathing problems. The only toilet is where you get off the train.
Sharon C — Google review
Loved it, saw marmots and the views were spectacular even when it was in the clouds. Wish we could do more hiking around there but we would have been late to catch the last train. Plan accordingly if you wish to do extra hikes.
Ilinca R — Google review
Nice activity if you like mountains (also for families and elders). There are multiple trains and you get there by ski-lift (gondola). The train travels slowly to a station where you can get a drink, snack/ice cream and there are toilets. You can walk to a lake/dam on a mountain passage with rocks. It's easy to take pictures in the train. If you get back with the lift there are souvenirs and places to eat.
Maikel J — Google review
I would give the cable car and train journey 5 stars, where you have spectacular views. Although it's expensive, you are on the train for over an hour, plus the time you have for exploring. The area at the bottom is a different story. The people in the town are very unwelcoming to tourists, which I see other reviews confirm. The staff who work in the shops and restaurants are very rude, which I appreciate is a generalisation however this seemed to be the way. We were in a campervan and the locals like to drive along the road blasting their horn. Probably the worst attitudes I've ever experienced in France. My advice would be to experience the train ride and then leave.

The National Museum and the Château de Pau is a captivating 14th-century castle museum that also serves as the birthplace of King Henry IV. The site boasts opulent interiors adorned with tapestries and artworks, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich history. Situated in Pau, France, this medieval fortress turned Renaissance castle provides breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Is a beautiful small castle with a lot of story. It can only be visit with a guide so be aware of this before going. The place is pretty to spend an hour in there. The outside of the castle has a garden and áreas to walk and visit too.

Beautiful house to look round, a sign in English in every room, the guide that takes you round is all in French but was still excellent! And good value at 7 euros per person

It's a great chateau! We would have enjoyed it more if there were a guided tour in English. We could not visit the chateau without a private tour, and they were all in French. I speak Portuguese and Spanish, but that didn't help at all while trying to understand the guide! I want to learn French so I don't miss anything like this again!!! The staff was great and I highly recommend the visit!

Superb parc to do over half a day or a day if you want to bring a picnic and have lunch there. We did it with a 1 yo who wasn’t walking at the time so we brought the baby carrier and it was great. Walking around is easy and seeing all those animals was really fun. We even spotted the little marmot peaking out of her den for food.

A pretty good few hours worth of entertainment with our 3 year old. The site has a wide variety of mammels and a good fowl enclosure. Most of the animals are very tame and quite accepting of being touched. There are plenty of interactive static displays but some need repairing. The text boards are in French and Spanish only.
Matt P — Google review
Really lovely, natural park the animals have plenty of space and appear happy the bear was great at feeding time. A little bit if English signage would have helped stopping to translate continually became a bit distracting but that just shows my poor language skills and is no reflection on the park.

I would really recommend this park to everyone who loves animals likes to be in close contact with them. The park is wonderful and the person at the desk is willing to help you with any questions you might have. You can interact with the animals. Great selection , plus discounts if you buy a whole box of one type of full size bars. Discounted misfits , and my favourite , the mystery 1 kg box . This gives you usually ten bars of choc for 8 euros . A visit after Xmas , Easter or Valentine’s Day always pays dividends as there are reduced boxes galore . Recently re modelled the parking which will continue to be a nightmare until it’s finished . Helpful staff on the checkouts .

La Verna Cave

Mentioned on

Cave Verna is a breathtaking underground marvel with illuminated walkways, viewing platforms, and a subterranean river. The vast caverns inside the hill feature a stunning waterfall, creating a cathedral-sized space that's truly unique. Visitors embark on a 2-3 km walk through a well-lit tunnel to reach the cave, where they are provided with helmets for safety. The knowledgeable guides offer insightful tours in both French and English, making it an enriching experience for all.
Great experience, absolutely loved it how rocky the path was all along, the climbing was amazing!! If you love hiking in the dark this is the place for you. Just book early on the phone! Also the guide was very nice and passionate about his job 10/10. (They also lend you helmets which is nice lol)
Nile7689 — Google review
This a geomorphological experience not to be missed if you are in the Basque country. La Verna is a HUGE natural space deep underground. EDF drilled an access tunnel to try and harness the subterranean river but it was found that there wasn't enough hydrological pressure and the project was abandoned. Now visitors can easily access the cave by way of this tunnel. The original access to the cave was by a 1000ft shaft. It is possible to have guided caving tours that start from the big chamber. These trips range from 3-8 hours. I did one of these caving trips 10 years ago. It was brilliant!
Stephen P — Google review
This was truly wonderful experience! Just keep it at that. Take any of the tours, they will all take you to the most beautiful part. It's so big! And so unexpected! Really the thing to do if you are in the neighborhood
Johan O — Google review
It was an unforgettable experience. Not to be missed. The guide was excellent, and spoke good English, however, if you are not a very fluent French speaker much of the technical detail will be lost to you, but this will not detract from the enjoyment of this spectacular natural phenomenon. We took the 'River' tour, I am in my mid 70's and have very weak knees, I had no particular difficulty with the "80 irregular stone steps". There are lots of rope hand rails, although when they are wet they can be slippery - gloves with 'grippy' palms could be usefully. The basic tour to the main gallery is definatly accessible to wheelchair users. Unless you are an athlete, or a rally car driver - TAKE THE SHUTTLE BUS from the 'ticket office' to the Grotto entrance. But do go if you can.
Chris D — Google review
Very exciting experience! A really knowledgeable guide, and a nice extensive hike all the way down to the cave river. The trip I took - the river tour - was great but did involve a lot of hiking on slippery rocks, so probably not for individuals with disabilities or injuries. The rest of the cave is very accessible for everyone, though!Mesmerizing and would definitely recommend!

My husband and I did the Cavalier/Knight sporting adventure here and I absolutely loved it. The office staff, especially Berenice, were all so patient and lovely while working with them over email. We have never spelunked before so I had zero expectations and I was blown away. Our guide was great, I do wish we spoke French as his English (still better than my French) was minimal but he was explaining a lot about the caves to the other patron. The actual event was fantastic. You do need to be physically active, in decent shape and have good body awareness. They provide a waterproof jumpsuit and thick rubber boots, along with a helmet with a headlamp and a harness to clip into in several dicey areas. The sights and sounds of the caves aren't able to truly be captured by camera but they will be lifetime memories for me!
Catherine A — Google review
A stunning, cathedral-sized underground cave, inside a hill. There is a waterfall inside, which is different! There is a long walk (2 or 3 km), to reach the cave, via a tunnel which has been blasted into the hillside (reasonably well lit and level floor and they provide a helmet to prevent you banging your head on the ceiling. The guide is French, but can also speak English, which is useful. Well worth a visit.
Kevin ( — Google review
10th biggest undergound cave in the world and largest in Western Europe. Truly massive scale. One can book the standard 1h visit or some longer exploratory tours of up to 4 hours. It is a truly different experience to spend a couple hours in a dark and quiet world, like being somewhere else.

Gorges Kakuetta is a 1.6-km-long natural gorge known for its lush greenery, waterfalls, and caves. It's often referred to as "little Amazonia" due to its wild and luxuriant nature. The path through the canyon is well-maintained and secure, leading hikers to a large waterfall and the cave of the lakes in about an hour.
One of the Pyrenees gems in France part. Make sure to take a jacket, it might be very cold inside the canyon even on a hot summer day.
Alfiya S — Google review
Nice walk through the gorge. Good place to visit on a hot day as the gorge stays nice and cool. Strongly recommend taking a picnic to eat by the river too. The route is a linear walk so the route back is along the same narrow path - which causes some congestion in places. It can also be slippy in places so good shoes recommend and there are numerous rocky and irregular parts which could cause difficulties for less sure footed visitors. Hardest part is first/last short but fairly steep climb from the lake below the restaurant over and into the gorge on wide woodland path. There are two carparks just before the entrance at the Cascades restaurant and limited roadside parking outside the entrance itself with a refreshments cabin. On arrival to the entrance, you first have to pay the entrance fees in the restaurant/shop and tickets are then collected at the cabin by the entrance gate. A short descent on a track then takes you to a picnic area by a lake and a cabin where you borrow a hardhat helmet for your visit (no extra charge) if you want one. Recommended visit. Especially on a hot day.
Glyn J — Google review
Absolutely loved this walk! I was not bored at one point during this because there are lost of steps and bumps and also the views are stunning! Blows everything I’ve seen in the UK out of the water! Above the waterfall there is a cave which I saw someone go in. BUT it’s very busy most days. It might be just because it is August, but you may end up parking on the verges and we got stuck. Bring some stuff just in case!

Beautiful gorge with very green cliff walls on both sides. Total distance from car parking area to the end of the gorge and back was approximately 11km. Took my family around 4 hours for a very relaxed tour. If you want to do the whole trip, then don't wear flip flops. Water in the river is very clear and fresh aka cold :-).

Lovely to visit. Not too difficult, though it was slippery when we were there. When busy is is a nightmare as the passage way is small. But we'll worth a visit!

Thoroughly enjoyed this walk through the gorge. Although board walked it’s still a strenuous walk and was great with the kids in backpacks. Young kids may struggle to walk all the way as it’s 2km. Don’t bother with the grotto at the end other than looking at the super clear water at the entrance

Le Château des Enigmes - Château de Laàs

Theme park
Water & Amusement Parks
Castles
This is a superb place. It’s semi- buggy friendly. One or two places where we had to lift buggy. It’s worth the trip. Some questions were tricky others easier which makes it good for all the family. There are picnic benches and a restaurant nearby. Plenty of climbing frames, rope bridges etc. not sure you’d need 8 hours but if you’ve a few pals I’m sure the children would loop the climbing frames more than once. It’s beautiful to walk around. Even bring a book and leave the kids off. €70 for family 2ad + 3ch under 4 free. Discount to book online. Very hot day here today and no breeze to offer relief, still worth it.

We visited just to see the house and we’re more than impressed by the unique collection of 18 th century memorability displayed and the quality of restoration undertaken on the home. This really is a museum presented to the highest standards. Our appreciation goes to our guide who showed great depth in her knowledge and presented well in English ( we were lucky for tours are normally conducted in French). The park staff were also accomodating of us; pleasant and helpful. We are more than satisfied we diverted to Lass.

Paper maps are available and there is a fountain in the parking lot. There are also public restrooms and a restaurant. I did a lovely bike ride through the Irati Forest, bordering the Irabia reservoir. It combines wide forest paths with fun trails and trials. It's about 23 km long and has 500 m of elevation gain. An important thing to keep in mind is that there is absolutely no internet access along the entire route, even well before reaching the parking lot. Thanks to Bernadette & Jean Claude for the opportunity to visit and stay over with our motorhome at their delightful farm. The farm tour included a wonderful tasting experience in the shop. The highlight for us was to see the sheep being milked, which was absolutely fantastic. We saw the wonderful pigs the next day, they were as happy as .... the saying goes. One thing was abundantly clear was the passion, care and welfare of their animals enjoying life in the natural surroundings. Apart from the cheese and ham, we took many fond memories away with us. (Translated by Google) We visited the Agerria farm this morning with our two children aged 3 and 6, and it was simply great! The welcome is warm, you immediately feel the passion of the breeders for their profession and their animals. The children loved approaching the sheep, petting the lambs and the pigs: a real moment of sharing and wonder for them! The visit is very well suited to families, rhythmic and accessible even to the little ones. And what a nice surprise to taste Ossau-Iraty cheese at the end of the visit: a treat! We leave with beautiful memories (and a good cheese and cold meats in the bag!). A big thank you to the team for this enriching and friendly morning. Very interesting. Incredibly old paintings & ancient living space, along with a cave with lots of stalactites & stalagmites. Excellent value. Tour was in French only, but guide answered questions in English & an English printed guide was also given to us - which was good. Helpful museum beforehand to explain it all. 5 minute walk from carpark through the woods. Local roads were fine in a motorhome. Recommended!

Real Colegiata de Santa María de Roncesvalles is a significant Gothic temple in Spain, dating back to around 1400. The church is a remarkable example of French gothic architecture and also served as a pilgrim's hospice. It houses the tomb of Navarrese Knight Enel Omorio and King Sancho VII of Navarre, who was known for his victory over the Moors at the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa.
A sight to see. It was totally worth it, I really recommend you take the guided tour.

Beautiful church with a Camino albergue. By the time we arrived at 2pm, we were told 400 people had arrived looking for one of their 250 beds. Volunteers were so very kind despite being overwhelmed, and the church was a peaceful break for a contemplative moment before continuing on.

Wonderful monument of Navarese medieval culture and architecture of XIV century. Don't forget to visit the cloister where you are going to find the tomb of Navarese Knight Enel Omorio who died in 1393. Through the cloister you can get in to the Chapel where the Royal Navarese Mausoleum is and where you are going to find the tomb of King Sancho VII of Navarre who totally crashed Moors at famous battle of Las Navas de Tolosa. King was the real giant two meters and seven centimeters tall. So, entire complex is one of the greatest national monuments of the Kingdom of Navarre. There is also small museum dedicated to medieval Navarese culture where you can find two maces of beginning of XIII century. Alas! This part of the Kingdom of Navarre was conquered and annexed by the Kingdom of Aragon in 1512.

High-quality public albergue in most aspects. The Dutch church volunteers are kind but a bit like the boot camp drill sergeants, especially on assigning the beds - strictly sequential, no consideration whatsoever of the gender, couple, or groups. Third weeks into offseason camino albergues and mostly flexible bed assignment, I was first surprised and even little annoyed by their attitude/behavior, but now think that may be a good thing for setting the mood for the whole camino journey haha

Real colegiata de Santa Maria de roncesvalles is a very good Albergue. There are blessing of Pilgrims and a biblioteca. Be careful in hiking. Better few kilometers in a gruop, because it needs a bit of expirience in hiking. Written a Story about Camino de Santiago Novum#11, page 140.

The church, a former pilgrim's hospice, is one of the most impressive examples of French gothic architecture. Built in the 13th c. by the Navarran King Sancho VII el Fuerte, it now plays host to his tomb. You can enter the cloisters and the tomb by paying EUR 2.50. I attended the 8pm pilgrims mass while I was there during my camino.

Parked at the Pichelebe Bridge. We followed the signed shortest path (about 2km). It was a very hot day and the shadow of the trees was refreshing. In the middle of the route there is an observation platform providing a magnificent view on the protected area in the park. Also observe the treebark at the start of the itinerary.

Parked by the road and walked 1 km to the beach which was breathtaking. Hardly anyone there, we had so much space. There is driftwood on the beach which is nice. Swimming was a loy of fun, but not for the little ones as it got deep very soon, and the water did not pull back in the same way as on the public beaches.

Cecile P — Google review
. There are several walks alongside the river (although you can often barely glimpse it, due to the thick foliage). You can start at the Pichelebe bridge on the D328, there's a small parking area for cars. At this point you have the choice: go west towards the sea, go east towards the lake. Or both! Going towards the sea you are pretty flabbergasted - well, I was, anyway - to come out of the forest and suddenly see the dunes with half a dozen houses on the top. No proper road access, just a sandy track - surely they need a 4x4? And as they are clearly holiday homes only, does this mean that they have to have a special car just for coming here? They made an interesting end point to our walk, seeing their gorgeous position on top of the dunes facing the sun as it sets in the ocean of an evening. Well, I say end point - we had to retrace our tracks, of course, to get back to the car. On the other hand, you can go east towards the lake. Lovely and cool in the woods, glimpses of the river, you can sometimes hear the boatmen and their passengers. To go on the river itself, you have to join the little flotilla of rowing boats that leaves, twice a day, from the wooden information centre "Les Bateliers du Courant d'Huchet" at one end of the beach on the south shore of the Lac de Leon. It's quite pricey - €13, €18 or €23 for 2, 3 or 4 hours - but you have to bear in mind that there are only half-a-dozen paying passengers in each boat and the poor man has a pretty hard slog of it, especially rowing back against the current. You generally need to reserve the day before. What you can't do is make an independent trip down the river, as it is a protected nature area. On the lake shore you can hire canoes, pedaloes and those wonderful silent electric boats - great fun and no effort - but there are buoys in the lake with notices warning you to keep well away from the entrance to the Courant. A lovely day out, whether you walk, get an electric boat, or get rowed by a strong young man. .

Adrénaline Parc is the largest treetop adventure park in Aquitaine, offering a thrilling experience for visitors of all ages. The park features an array of courses with varying levels of difficulty, ensuring that both little kids and adults can find suitable challenges. With numerous zip lines and safety briefings available in multiple languages, visitors can feel secure as they navigate the courses. The park's popularity means it's best to arrive early to make the most of the day.
We did the tree courses, my 5yr old and 7yr old went on approx 7 courses many times, for up to 3 hrs in total. They loved it. It does need adult assistance on some of the courses just to bring a pully across. The adults courses are from approx aged 10, there were approx 10 to choose from. We didn't do the quad biking despite there being plenty to choose from. This activity is very very good value for money.

Great day at adrenaline parc, amazing area for young kids under 7, then more trails for 7+ with an adult, never went in the full course but really wanted too. The 7+ was challenging and has some great wire slides for that age range. Would definitely recommend.

Not very good at listening to medical reasons for the children to rehydrate when they are on specific medications . My daughter said she felt dizzy and hydrated and they forced her to go around a complete track when she was at the beginning and could have come back off but they was more bothered about keeping their french adult customers behind happy than my daughters health. She had been up.in the trees for three hours in the sunshine by this point . When I raised it I was argued with and spoken badly about in french which was very racist towards me as a English parent.

Excellent experience. Went with my 15 year old son, with climbing experience and found our challenges on the black courses. Stuff on the difficult courses are around to give you tips. Lots of options for easy climbs as well.

Excellent day out. We visited for the morning with our 8 and 6 year olds. We’ve been to GoApe a couple of times in the UK so our children were familiar with the harness system - although I’d say Adrenaline Parc’s harnesses are easier to use and get in and out of. Great instruction from the staff and we were thankful and grateful that they all spoke good English which is always appreciated. There were lots of trails suitable for both children. The smaller routes are imaginative with skateboards, quad bikes and boat rides all built into the trails which our kids loved! There are seven trails for under 7 year olds and then several more that older children can do if they’re accompanied by an adult. You get free roam of the trails so can do them as many times as you like and there is no time limit which makes this park excellent value for money. We had ice cream and drinks at the restaurant which is a lovely outdoor area that is clean and looked after. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun morning out away from the pool or beach.

Very helpful members of staff. But really shocked to discover that during an exceptionally difficult time for tourism the French restaurants still stop serving food at 2 pm ish. Bloody stupidly encapsulated. Go the beach in the morning. Towards 2pm its getting to hot, so you go to the........ Yep they've closed

Cuevas de Zugarramurdi

Caverns & Caves
Cuevas de Zugarramurdi, also known as Cuevas de Las Brujas or Caves of the Witches, is a karst cave complex with a rich history dating back to the Inquisition. The caves were once believed to be the site of evil activities according to the Inquisition. A short trail through a wooded area leads to these monumental caves, offering diverse plant life and a small waterfall inside.
Beautiful short trail with the monumental cave. Diverse types of plants along the slope. The place is well taken care of. There is a tiny waterfall crossing the cave. You can spot some people walking their dogs. The trail is not too long to spend a little time for exercise after your heavy meal.

A very beautiful and picturesque place, first walking along the path along the mountain river you get into a huge cave with many paths. A wonderful place for a walk and just relaxing with friends and family.👌

Great place took my dog with and he enjoyed small river
Morne B — Google review
A pleasant walk. Probably more interesting for the history than for the caves themselves. But pretty.
Evan P — Google review
Great experience. Beautiful self guided walk around the town and the cave area. Gorgeous river and nature walk as well. It’s pretty steep at a few points and with muddy/rocky steps so not wheelchair accessible/friendly. I recommend getting tickets, but we got ours just a few hours before our visit so no need to get them in advance for off season. There’s a car park in town near a public toilet and a restaurant with a ten ish minute walk to the caves. There’s an accessible car spot right at the gates to the cave area.

Great trip, on a hot day the caves were really cool and refreshing. We paid €11 for two of us. I would recommend taking something to eat as there’s nothing local that I can recommend and the cave has a few really great spots to sit and eat.

Nestled in the Sare Valley, Grottes de Sare is a remarkable limestone massif featuring expansive caves and an intriguing museum dedicated to bats. Visitors can explore the Musee Ethnographique to delve into the rich cultural heritage and ancient history of the Basque region before embarking on a guided tour that ventures 1 km underground for a captivating son-et-lumiere show.
Lovely experience to learn about the historical and archaeological significance of the cave. The guide explained everything well and the multimedia elements added a special touch. If you are lucky, you might see some bats flying around! Remember to take something warm to put on in the cave as the temperature is around 14 degrees throughout the year. Note that you cannot take photos inside the cave.

We got a great private tour in English at the end of the afternoon. Super interesting history and insight into the Basque country and some of its extraordinary culture and language. The caves are nice, but what was really exciting was the bats nest on the ceiling. Very active bats and a bunch of young ones hanging there and flapping their wings in anticipation of food. Never saw so many bats, wild, in one place. Great! There are multiple stories told and histories found. The museum is small and features a bit of all these stories. The souvenir shop is very nice and sells gems, they own a huge amethyst! Buy tickets in advance. Closed on Wednesdays. Absolutely worthwhile. There is a lot of parking place, but not too many for campervans. Public toilet for free. I am so happy that the guide, movie and all surroundings support the importance of Natura 2000! Keep this site clean and natural, as much as possible.

Incredible cave, gigantic, millions of years old, light show with a tour, bonus: dolmens and very small museum on site. That cave is so worth seeing, that's why you can't take pictures inside.

What a fab visit to these caves. We had the tour in French with English on our phones. But the young man who took us around was amazing. Very knowledgeable and took time to explain things to us.👍
Lesley P — Google review
It is a place full of history however during the visit this is not pointed out accordingly. In any case we had a good time, a little smaller than what we were expecting and taking pictures is not allowed inside the cave.

Informative site… the museum, grotto and park all added to the experience. We were provided with a brief outline in English as our group and guide were French speaking.

Le Train de La Rhune

Scenic Railroads
Le Train de La Rhune, also known as the "Petit Train de la Rhune," is a historic cog railway that takes visitors on a scenic journey to the summit of La Rhune mountain. The train operates from March to November and offers stunning panoramic views of the Basque Coast, the Pyrenees, and even Spain on clear days. The leisurely 45-minute ride provides ample opportunities to admire unspoiled nature and wildlife along the way.
We came here with our two dogs. We arrived around 11am and had no problem parking. We didn't book in advance and bought our tickets at the ticket office. There is a charge for dogs of around €6 each and you have to show the tickets before you get aboard. The ride takes about 40 minutes. There is vast difference in temperature once you reach the summit so take some warm clothing with you. Also bare in mind the return train down is 2 hours later, so take a packed lunch and buy hot drinks from the cafe or have a meal there. The gift shop is worth visiting with lots of items on sale. There was low cloud the day we went so we couldn't see anything, never the less we enjoyed the ride up and back down.
Philip H — Google review
An experience taking the train to the top and back. Book your tickets in advance. You then have to stick to the seating plan going up and down. Parking can be a problem, the car parks are full during the day and parking along the road can be tricky too. It may be easier to get the bus to the train station. Going for the last train up may be easier, and there will be fewer people on the top. Once on top, you have 2 hours to look around, and the views are amazing on a clear day. There are cafés and toilets (1 euro) on the summit. The best souvenir shop is opposite the lower station.

Really cool experience, it’s been 10+ years that we wanted to go up and we finally went for it. If you pack your picnic make sure to have a blanket, spots are rare (except restaurant tables of course). Also keep in mind that the time spent at the top is very limited since you have to catch the train back down.

If you love old railways this is a fantastic visit. Friendly stsff, amazing views, mountain peak and old trains - what's not to love. It's a €1 charge for the toilet at the top, and having just come from Spain the summit drinks prices were steep but it's a honeypot so not unexpected.

Brilliant trip up into the hills, rainy misty day but still beautiful up there! Sheep on the track, very funny as they would not move! Excellent shop at the start and at the top too. Cafe at the top quite pricey...
Tryphena P — Google review
We enjoyed it very much. It's a most to make reservations. And arrive with time. The parkingbis a little difficult. We parked on the street. There are many places to eat and drink.

Magnifique! Beautiful views of France and Spain. The train ride is very pleasant and takes about 35 mn. The little trains, I believe are from the 1920's but in pristine condition. As it ascends at about 9 km/h you can admire the beautiful Pyrénées.
