Casa de Luis XIV · MAISON LOUIS XIV is a must-see residence and museum in Saint Jean de Luz. (Translated by Google) The house is located on the square of the same name, in the historical center of the city and near the port. The beautiful and still preserved house was owned by Joannis de Lohobiague, who owned several boats. It was built in 1643, you will see two towers at the two corners, and the main stone facade is in classical style and is named Louis XIII facade. To this day, it is owned by the descendants of the shipowner, who have preserved the furnishings and furniture over time and open it most of the year for visiting - from the end of March to the beginning of November was for this year. You can visit the house yourself, or with a guide who will introduce you to the history and, as well as the setting. The ticket costs seven euros, if you are a group of 10 people or more, the price is 6 euros. Louis XIV stayed there for over a month in 1660 during his marriage to the Infanta Maria Theresa. You will touch centuries-old history if you visit the house, you will see souvenirs, objects, paintings and furniture, the large salon is impressive. It was restored in 2019. In the bedroom where Louis XIV stayed, you will see besides the richly decorated furniture and wax figures. For his marriage to Infanta Maria Theresa of Austria, the king slept here for 40 nights from May 8, 1660 to June 9, 1660, the date of his marriage. The king slept in this house because it was, at the time, the most beautiful and largest residence in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. A private tour is recommended if you are passing through Saint-Jean-de-Luz. The guide will give you details on the history of this house, it's worth it. (Original) Très belle maison historique du XVII ème siècle. (Translated by Google) €7 admission for a 10-minute tour, during which we only see a few rooms that we're not even allowed to photograph under the bogus pretext that it's private property. (Translated by Google) €8 is extremely expensive for a place that can be visited in 10 minutes. Especially since there are only four rooms to visit, there are personal photos decorating the period furniture (so yes, it's a private and still inhabited place, but it clashes with the Louis XIV atmosphere), and one of the people we could contact for more information wasn't the most diplomatic or friendly. Our curiosity failed us this time. This place isn't worth it. (Translated by Google) Frankly, the Maison Louis XIV in Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a huge disappointment. They sell us an important historical site, but in the end, we only see one floor with four rooms, and the tour is completed in barely 15 minutes. The entrance fee (€7): a huge rip-off... Plus, it's impossible to take a single photo, which somewhat dampens the desire to share or keep a souvenir. As for the history, we only learn that Louis XIV stayed there for about forty days... and that's about it. In short: expensive, quick, little information, no photos. In my opinion, there are much better things to see in the area for the same price, or even for free.

Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste is a historic Roman Catholic church located in the charming village of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France. Dating back to the 1400s, this church boasts an intricate altarpiece and a galleried nave. It holds great significance as the place where Louis XIV and Maria Theresa, the Infanta of Spain, were married in 1660.
What a wonderful and historic church. The cool, dark interior is dominated by vaulted ceilings and a magnificent Baroque altarpiece of carved, guilded wood that takes up the entire height of the back wall of the apse, and the two wings that flank it. The wooden galleries - reserved for men - are typical of the Basque Country. The building is steeped in history with Louis XIV and María Teresa, daughter of King Philip IV of Spain, being married in 1660 (while the church was still under construction). Visiting is an absolute must if you are in the area.

This is a MUST DO if you are here on a Sunday! Yes, it is amazing g architecture znd decore, but it is a church and to hear the organ, the singing that fills the interior and participate was wonderful experience. There was paper outline to follow, very helpful for us English speaking Protestants. We went to the 10:30AM service and were so glad we got there 20 minutes early, as there was standing room only when the church bells rang to begin.

Very beautiful place. When we have walked past there is usally no wait at all. Stunning views and architecture. I would highly recommend popping in and viewing. We came here on a sunny Monday and there was a few people inside but lots of space to look and explore

This is an historically important church, where Louis the 14th was married. It has a very unusual architectural feature being the wooden balconies that have been added around three of the walls. This was to house an expanding congregation that could not fit otherwise. A lovely church and Well worth the visit. Entry is free And a good place to sit for a while.

Beautiful Catholic Church in the centre of town and leading onto the square Louis IV. The architecture and the decorations within the church were stunning with so many lovely colours and stained glass decorations. Really worth stopping by if you are interested in the history of this town.

The Church of John the Baptist (Saint- Jean-Baptiste), where June 9, 1660 Louis XIV, king of France and Navarra, (grandson of Henry IV) married Mary Theresa of Spain. This is the largest temple in the Basque part of France. It's a very exciting feeling to study history in this way

Port de Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a picturesque coastal town in the Basque Country of France, renowned for its charming landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and stunning beaches. The fishing port is a central attraction, where traditional boats are moored and have been used for centuries. The town's historic church is a highlight, featuring intricate wood carvings crafted by skilled artisans.
This afternoon we visited the charming fishing town Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Little; but such a wonderful busy town center! The highlight for me was clearly a memorable church incredibly beautiful and ornate yet so basic. Built by the artisans of a simple fishing village, not the gold and opulence of famous cathedrals but instead filled with the amazing ornate wood carvings of true craftsmen. For me, their craftsmanship, passion and faith is no less impressive than the most elaborate cathedrals of Rome! So memorable!

Visited on a rainy day the town is lovely as Is the working port to wonder round. The bay is so calm due to the sea walls (very safe for babies/ toddlers and lovely sand) however there was no swimming allowed when we visited and life guards were telling / getting swimmers out due to bacteria. Seems like they had the same problem as we have in the UK.

(Translated by Google) As a sailboat sailor, I found the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz welcoming and well-equipped. This corner of the Basque Country exudes maritime authenticity, with fishing boats moored along the well-maintained quays, while sailboats are anchored in the bay on moorings. The harbor entrance is clear, and the atmosphere is warm and pleasant, ideal for relaxing after a sail. The beaches and bay offer beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. Be careful, the anchorage is quite rolling in heavy swells, making life aboard the sailboat sometimes difficult. I enjoyed strolling along the quays, discovering the architectural details of the old buildings that line the port. The restaurants serve ultra-fresh fish and seafood, with pleasant terraces to enjoy the setting. The quays are well-appointed, perfect for a break or to observe the daily maritime activity. The port is an excellent starting point for exploring the beaches or coastal paths on foot. The sunsets are superb, with vibrant colors that beautify the bay. I recommend this port to sailors and visitors for its simple charm, despite the sometimes rough anchorage. The maritime history, the lively docks, and the warm welcome make it a must-visit place for a memorable getaway! ☺️.. ☺️..

Friendly service. We buy 3 sorts of special cake of Basque (gateaux Basque) with taste: cream, chocolate and cherry. My husband love it. I like it but not 100%. The edge of the cake that I don’t like it too much. A bit hard for me :) Maybe their macaroons are better since their specialty is macaroons. Unfortunately we don’t but it.

Yes, mistakes were made… But honestly, a sweet served in a chocolate shop should be FULLY EATABLE!! I was expecting a chocolate or sugar fake egg shell… But to my surprise, the egg shell was a real one!?!? Once removed, the inside started to melt and it was so difficult to eat. The team should re-think this dessert as soon as possible! Big disappointment, specially from the staff who didn’t warn the buyer.

Su historia: Maison Adam In 1660, for the wedding of Louis XIV in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the future king’s mother and Maria Theresa of Spain succumbed to the finesse of Monsieur Adam’s macarons, sparking the renown of the confectionery house that would last for more than three centuries. Today, Andoni and Miguel Telleria-Adam are pursuing the development of the company passed down by their father Jean-Pierre, upholding tradition while continuing to innovate in the exacting preparation of pastries, confectionery and chocolates.

Good location with a really beautiful view. Staff don't seem to like foreigners however, they were INCREDIBLY condescending and mostly ignored you if you weren't French. The menu for lunch was so good! Although it’s full house, the speed of serving is fast and good service.

When you feel let down, it’s often a sign that your expectations were simply too high—and that’s exactly how I feel about this restaurant. To be fair, the food was very good, and the service was pleasant. That said, we personally found the dishes a bit too salty, and the overall pacing of the meal felt quite slow. It took two full hours from the time we were seated to finish the entire course. Interestingly, the local diners—madames and messieurs around us—seemed perfectly at ease, chatting and enjoying their time without any sign of impatience. So perhaps this relaxed tempo is just the norm here. As travelers on a day trip to Saint-Jean-de-Luz, we would have appreciated being able to make better use of our time. But again, none of this is meant as criticism. It all comes down to the fact that we had let our expectations get a bit too high.

Lunch is an excellent value for the quality of food we received. Everything was delicious. I think when going in with unrealistic expectations you could be disappointed the ambiance and service but for the dessert alone lunch was worth it but the fish was delicious and so was our starter.
Mark S — Google review
I recently had lunch at this restaurant, and it was not a good experience. The food and service were both very disappointing, especially for a "tasting menu". The problems started early. We were given a very small amount of wine, and the bread came with no butter or oil. Olives were served, but then, without asking, they were taken away before we even got to finish them. The food itself was not good. The starter tasted like mushy cookies, which was strange and not tasty. The fish was bland, and the vegetables that came with it were not seasoned or prepared well. The duck dish was also poor. The duck had no seasoning, the cube of rice was dry and had no salt, and the acidic vegetables on the side didn’t match the rest of the dish. There was also a random piece of fried cheese on the plate that didn’t make sense. There was no sauce to bring the dish together, making everything feel like a mix of random ingredients. The service was another big issue. The waiter wore low-rise jeans with the bottom buttons of his shirt open, and we could clearly see his 'healthy stomach' - this is not something I want to see, especially not while eating. The waitress explained the dishes very quickly in French, which makes sense because it is a restaurant in France. But I heard her speaking English to other customers, and she knew I didn’t speak French, so I don’t understand why she didn’t bother explaining the dishes in English to us. She was in such a hurry that she didn’t give us a chance to ask any questions. Also, not once did anyone ask if I wanted more wine or if they could take my empty glass away. Dessert was the final letdown. It was just chocolate on top of more chocolate, and it was far too sweet with no balance in flavour. It just made me nauseous. The lunch took two hours for just four courses, which would be fine if the food and service were great, but they weren’t. Overall, this "tasting menu" was a total waste of money. The food was badly made, and the service was poor. I would rather burn my money, than eat here again.

Pizza restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Bellini is a must-visit Italian restaurant that captures the essence of authentic cuisine. With its inviting ambiance featuring stone accents, this eatery offers an enticing selection of wood-fired pizzas and customizable pasta-and-sauce combinations. Diners rave about the generous toppings on their pizzas and classic dishes from Italy's culinary repertoire.
Had a great experience at Bellini! We managed to secure a reservation which is a must if you want to go with the server using her translator to understand my husband trying to get a reservation for us! Had the buratta entree that was incredible! We wished we had ordered one each it was that good!! Our plats were Allé Vongole and the Regina pizza ! They were both delicious! Tiramisu and espresso for dessert! If we are ever back in St Jean de Luz we will be back! The staff were very friendly and smiled the whole time! They appreciated our greetings and attempt to order in French! A lovely spot! It was absolutely packed! Don’t forget to make a reservation!

Very charming Italian restaurant. They have a wood burning stove so the pizzas are very authentic. I had the mortadella pesto pizza and it was absolutely amazing. The base is really light so you don’t feel bloated afterwards. The tiramisu is to die for!! Would definitely go back!

The food was good especially the asparagus risotto, but the pizza could have been more flavorful. The service was a bit slow, but overall a good place.

You all need to try their Tiramisu, it is absolutely amazing!!(a bit different to German Tiramisu style) I had the clam linguine, very yummy, just few clams got little bit sandy, which is quite normal XD) but I am giving 5 stars just because of the prices, environment, staffs, also my husband had a pizza, the pizza crust got a bit cheese inside!!!!! So nice! The woman staff was so friendly even she couldn’t speak much English. And yes they don’t have a English menu.

Best pizzas we've had in France by a long shot, pastawas also out of this world. Shared the antipasti board to start because we we're so hungry, did not disappoint. Nice touch with the little Italian biscotti with the coffee.
