Stumbled upon this by chance, really glad we did,it’s a lovely slice of history and one man’s vision and collection of medieval art and artefacts. Included in the price is a guided tour of the tower which is certainly worth the climb up the narrow stairs.

Actually it is closed because of renovation but we'll come back as soon as they open again in 2026. Nice location, good restaurant with nicely presented dishes next to the castle.

Wow!!! I didn't expect to see here such a great collection of the middle ages art. The castle itself very beautiful, so don't forget to take camera. They also have a special audio guide with tasks (from 8 y.o.) for children. There is a cafe in the castle's yard.

Very nice town and castle to visit. One of the oldest in The Netherlands. Very interesting history, especially for people interested in old coins, as it used to be owned by the family that also ran the local Mint, which is across the street. Also the place where a witch was condemned to death in the Middle Ages, which was a rare event in The Netherlands. From here it is a short drive to where the Rhine River enters The Netherlands. Worth a visit. Oh, and did I mention they brew their own beers there? Worth a try!
Rutger V — Google review
Nice old castle with an exhibition of medieval art. You can get a (free) tour of the tower with some very nice views and a visit to the weapons room. Beautiful garden as well.
Erik V — Google review
Fantastic castle. Working time was untill 16:30 so we have not managed to get inside but still being outside was impresive. There us a cafe with good offer of food and beer

What a stunning place to visit. The castle is located near the Dutch/German border in a beautiful surrounding. The castle harbours a fantastic collection, gathered by the Van Heek family. If you love ancient buildings, history, paintings and antique, you should place the castle on your to visit list.

Nice exhibition. Do use the audiotour! Your ticket will be valuable for the whole day :) Also pay the "stadsmuseum" a visit. It's just across located at Marktplaats 3.

The Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem offers a captivating journey through Dutch heritage, showcasing traditional buildings and transport exhibits. Visitors can immerse themselves in the country's history, with guides dressed in period costumes bringing the past to life. Spanning 44 hectares, this living museum features a diverse collection of historic structures from different regions of the Netherlands.
It was worth the visit, the place is huge and every nook and corner has something to offer. Beautifully managed surroundings, family picnic is a great option, kids of all ages and even adults can easily find things to amuse them. History is depicted and preserved in a very nice manner.
Aarti K — Google review
Incredible experience! So much amazing history to discover and many interactive exhibits like the weavers and the blacksmiths. The grounds are stunning and expansive. You can tour the grounds on the trolley which is super fun for kids. There is an entire section of the ground dedicated to kids activities. The restaurant and Cafe was really nice with many vegan options including pastries! The gift shop is very nice with many good Dutch gifts.
Evan G — Google review
In my opinion the best museum in the Netherlands, bar none. Well worth the ticket price and whatever the train costs coming here. The entire museum is extremely well maintained. Facilities are unbelievably sanitary. The food served in the "restaurant corner" of the museum is reasonably priced and mouth-watering good. The fries are a must try. The exhibits offer a detailed look into history, with content written in both Dutch and English. The experience is thoughtfully divided into sectors, each containing exhibits from different time periods. Historic trams run frequent headways in a circular route around the museum. These are free to board and a wonderful way to have a look around. Of course, the museum is 100% walkable. 10/10 experience. The day went by in a flash - will be back.

The Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem is a fantastic destination for families with children. The open layout gives kids plenty of space to run and explore, and there’s something exciting to discover around every corner—from old windmills and traditional farmhouses to vintage trams that take you around the museum grounds. It feels like stepping into a living storybook of Dutch history. What really makes it special for children is how interactive and hands-on everything is. There are live demonstrations of old crafts like weaving, blacksmithing, and even bread baking—many of which kids can try themselves. Throughout the museum, staff dressed in historical clothing bring the past to life with friendly explanations and fun activities. There’s also a playground area and child-friendly exhibits that keep little ones engaged and curious. The museum is very well-organized, with clean facilities, family-friendly paths for strollers, and several places to eat or picnic. It’s the kind of place where both kids and adults can learn, play, and enjoy a full day outdoors together. If you’re visiting the Netherlands with your family, this museum is an absolute must-see!
Mehmet Y — Google review
Lovely place in Holland. If you have the museum card and you go with your family, this is a great place to spend the day at. The nature is beautiful, the tram is fun for the kids, you could see farm animals and enjoy the different family activities. I love the Dutch concept of having open air museums where you can see the history of the country.
ALMUDENA S — Google review
Beautiful museum about Dutch history and how people were living in the past century. We visited during a busy weekend but because the size of the park it does not feel crowded. A tram can be used to travel quickly from one location to another. Not only the buildings are in perfect condition, but also the landscape, the gardens, the trams etc. are well maintained. Definitely worth a visit.
Marc B — Google review
We visited on our way from Germany to the ferry from Europort. It's a lovely place for a few hours, lots to see. Very knowledgeable staff/volunteers to tell you about the life etc.

Burgers' Zoo

Zoo
Outdoor Activities
Burgers' Zoo is a remarkable destination that offers visitors an immersive experience into the world of wildlife, showcasing animals in environments that closely resemble their natural habitats. Spanning an impressive 45 hectares, this expansive zoo features diverse ecosystems including a safari park, indoor tropical rainforest, and even a seawater aquarium. Each exhibit is thoughtfully designed to cater to various rare species from around the globe, making it not just a zoo but also a conservation-focused sanctuary.
Not a massive fan of zoos but I think this one is done very well, and for the right reasons. The different sections felt very well done, you immerse yourself into the various climates of where the animals live. The information about the various wildlife was also well spread and accessible. I also think the information about the elderly elephant is handled appropriately. A decently large walk if you want to visit everything, which speaks well to the amount of space the animals are given. The animals don't appear as distressed as I've seen in other zoos.
Hubert M — Google review
This is a wonderful zoo, one of the best I have visited in Europe. The forest in the middle of the park is amazing and very diverse in terms of plants and animals, and there's also a waterfall. A lot of animals had newborns, which was very cute. The sea zone was very beautiful, of course limited in size as it is not the main focus of the park (if you like water animals, make sure you visit the one in Barcelona). Downsides: too many people which created crowds, and no staff around the park to help.
Scarlett O — Google review
Such a beautiful and fun zoo! Would definitely recommend for adults and for children. As an adult that likes to go to zoo’s that are not just for kids, this is a great pick! A full day is needed to visit here and be prepared for different types of biomes, this is the most interesting ! There are restaurants located around, and I would recommend the Bush restaurant! The food is quite pricy for what it is.
Taya M — Google review
Amazing!!! The first steps didn’t seem like it will be much yet quickly we realized how well thought is whole place. Really you see the animals and theirs wellbeing is the highest priority. Still all is designed in such smart way that you able to observe them in awe! True treat for families but I guess it’s also a great idea for a date or solo experience. Enjoyed tons🙌🏼 There are parts of it fully in dome that creates full experience of natural habitats- if you don’t look up it’s easily to feel like in a jungle or on some tropical place. Amazing!
RichRich — Google review
I went their with my wife and daughter( 2 years old). The park has huge car parking (paid) with electric car chargers. Overall the park is huge and very well built. There are enough benches to sit and observe. The observation decks are very well positioned, and the safari restaurant has amazing views of the African safari lands. Their is great variety of food options, even for kids. The food was lekker. Overall the entire experience was just amazing.
Himanshu Y — Google review
This was a wonderful zoo experience. One the rare “cageless” habitats and it was wonderful to see the animals roam around in rather large habitats. Beautifully designed, and aesthetically pleasing. Parking costs 9 EUR and approx 29 EUR for a single ticket for adults. It can take somewhere between 3-4 hours to leisurely see all exhibits
Gaurav R — Google review
Always nice to go here..! Is calm and peaceful… The animals are well taken care of and monkeys are my favorite! Mangrove is my favorite place to visit… It a nice funny cute and a great zoo to visit
GJ — Google review
It is an interesting Zoo which offers animal as much nature space as possible. With the map you can explore all different parts of the zoo. But with the open nature it also creates some challenges, it might be sometime difficult to trace where the animals are, which brings down the experience slightly. Quite some food choices inside the canteen and plenty of paid parking space inside as well

Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe

National park
Nature & Parks
The National Park De Hoge Veluwe is a stunning natural reserve that spans an impressive 13,300 acres of diverse landscapes, including forests, heathlands, and sand dunes. Once the private estate of the Kroller-Muller family, this park now serves as a sanctuary for wildlife such as red deer and wild boar. Visitors can explore over 42 kilometers of designated cycling and walking trails that wind through picturesque pine forests and open sandy areas.
This national park is great for all kinds of visits, from family visits to solo visits and even vacation. There are plenty of free facilities for you to fill your day with excitement. You can bring your own bike or rent a free bike at the location. It is very accessible by car and there are plenty of bike in each park entrance for you to be using. You can park in a parking lot in every entrance and only paying €4.75 for a whole day! You may encounter different scenarios of wild animals, I encountered a wild boar. If you have a children, you can go to one of the playground near the large hub in the middle. You don’t need to worry about peeing there, as there is a lot of free to use bathrooms for you to enjoy in the park, as most toilet needs to pay to enter in Europe. I strongly recommend that you should bring your picnic accessories with you to picnic, as there is plenty of green grass and good view for you to picnic on.
Avery Y — Google review
Spent the whole afternoon here, biked the whole national park loop, took us about 3hrs including stops for pics and deer viewing. Scenery is super nice from lush forests to dunes and dry grasses (Safari feels!). White bikes are free! One size only for adults, good enough for me (5ft), all bikes only with footbrake :D
Gin T — Google review
The park is very beautiful, with several types of landscape, forest, veld (heather fields), dunes, lake. We did not see any wildlife, but we were not there very early, so probably not the best hours. The free white bikes helped us travel through the park - the bikes are quite basic, but well maintained and it is very welcome that the park made it part of the experience. All in all, we spent a great day at Hoge Veluwe!
Thomas V — Google review
Beautiful park with a variety of ecosystems. Very well maintained with a network of hiking and cycling paths. The restaurant at the main entrance had delicious meals. Basic bicycles wit child seats are free to use and need no booking. They also had tandum bicycles, bicycles with a wheelchair in front and electric bikes to rent.
Marika B — Google review
I was really surprised by this place which became one of my favorite at all. I didn’t expect such a beauty. The nature was so various! The dense forest, lakes, so many different trees and plants, or sand dunes… Views on all of this was truly stunning. One day is definitely not enough to thoroughly explore this place, it is so huge! You can find, after relaxing in and enjoying the wild forest, many branches where to stop and admiring the surrounding or just rest. Toilets are available as well (of course that not on many places). When i returned, I felt so replenished, so well… thank to this beautiful place!
Klara D — Google review
It is one of the best national parks with great cycling routes and museums inside the park. The greenery is utterly stunning and quite beautiful. The cafes inside offer quite good food options as well. You can get a bike inside the national park which makes the exploration quite easy and fun. Also, if lucky, one can spot deers too. Worth every penny!
Sai S — Google review
We visited the park on a sunny day, and it was nice. The free white bikes (with pedal brakes) are available at the main entrances and the museum, and cycling around was a fun way to explore. It’s easy to cover quite a bit of ground, and the landscapes change as you go, so it doesn’t feel quite boring. We didn’t see many animals, just a deer or two and some birds, but there are spots where you can sit and wait. We weren’t actively looking for wildlife, though. One thing to note is that you have to pay for the park entrance if you just want to visit the Kröller-Müller Museum, which some might find annoying. The museum itself was nice, and the sculpture garden is worth checking out. If you can, bring your own food or picnic as there are places to sit and eat. If you’re leaving through the Hoenderloo entrance, grab an ice cream from IJs van Co. It’s a sweet way to end the day.
Anjali G — Google review
Huge nature area with 40 km of cycle tracks plus loads of walking trails. Bikes are included in the entry fee. Quite expensive to take the car in but it is 3km from the entrance to the central visitor centre . Not crowded at all and open until 10pm in June and July with the restaurant serving until 9.30pm. Well worth a visit.

Kröller-Müller Museum

Mentioned on
+73 other lists
Museum
Art museum
The Kröller-Müller Museum, established in 1938, is a renowned art museum housing an exceptional private collection of late-19th-century and early-20th-century paintings. It is considered the third most important art museum in the Netherlands, featuring a notable Vincent Van Gogh collection with around 90 paintings and 180 drawings on display.
We arrived a bit late, but still managed to have a quick look at the precious collection. Although the exhibition space may not be as refined and diverse in design as the Van Gogh Museum, the collection itself is highly impressive and well worth seeing. The layout is clear and easy to follow. Outside, the vast sculpture park offers a perfect harmony between art and nature.
CY Z — Google review
The museum has the second largest Van Gogh collection in the world. There are many paintings of him. There is both closed and open air areas where you can spend a whole afternoon. Also nice cafe and restaurants. Recommended.
Murat Ö — Google review
As my friend highly recommended this museum, I decided to visit it from Amsterdam. It wasn’t too difficult to get there. When you arrive at the train station in the city where the museum is located, you can take a connecting bus directly from the station. After getting off at the final stop, just cross the street and wait at the bus stop on the other side. The bus driver mentioned that buses run twice an hour, but from my experience, you might end up waiting for as long as an hour. :) The museum itself was very nice and not too crowded. You can take your time and enjoy Vincent van Gogh’s paintings in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The food at the restaurant was quite good — I had a hamburger, and it was tasty. Most other visitors seemed to be ordering soup, just for your information. The outdoor garden is also well known. There’s nothing particularly special about it, but it’s a pleasant place for a walk.
Lunar K — Google review
Great experience overall but entry fees to national park is separate to get to the museum which then comes out to be a bit above 26 euros combined. Free bikes to go around the national park. The Kröller Müller museum is nice as well with a vast collection of Van Gogh. Other noticable works for Paul Signac, Monet etc. Although the museum could be a bit more immersive. Overall a great daytrip in Netherlands
Dimple J — Google review
I had the chance to visit the most impressive and fascinating museum I’ve ever seen in the Netherlands — the Kröller-Müller Museum. There are incredible artworks of Vincent van Gogh, Picasso and many other painters and amazing sculptures. Sincere thanks to the museum’s management, and to Helene and Anton Kröller-Müller, whose vision and passion made this remarkable place possible. Please make your plan for whole day, not only for museum but also cafe inside and outdoor in the forest.
M. Z — Google review
So much more than a museum. Obviously the main draw to this remote location is its important collection of paintings and sculptures. But the setting is what makes it such an outstanding visit. Deep inside a huge park, you can and you should choose to reach the museum from the entrance by the white bicycles freely available to all. If the weather is nice this short (about 20 minutes) ride gets you in a jolly mood. Power up with the small but tasty menu of desserts and small plates in the restaurant. It took me 5 hours to enjoy the place.
Nikos P — Google review
The staff at the ticket counter was incredibly kind, and when my ticket was checked at the entrance, I was even given extra guidance on bicycles and detailed information about the outdoor sculpture works. Another advantage of this museum is the chance to see around 50 Van Gogh paintings all in one place—a truly remarkable experience.

Veluwe Sand Sculpture Festival

Museums
Art Museums
Site of an annual sand sculpture festival lasting several months, with a new theme every year.
Amazing sculptures, and really nicely done through story telling showing the history of 750 years Amsterdam. There really is a lot to see and the added bonus of the playground and wooden sculptures (accessible for free) make this a place worth visiting.
Mitchel M — Google review
You don't have to pay the ticket as soon as you enter the garden. You can still enjoy the atmosphere of the place until you get to the ticket office, enjoying a lot of statues that invite you to play and relax. We paid for the parking at the kassa, at the same time as the entrance ticket to the sand statues. There is a small playground for children. We satisfied our hunger with a burger. From the restaurant we followed the arrow, but in this way we missed some of the statues and had to turn back when closing time was approaching. But we didn't want to miss them. The quiet atmosphere makes everything suitable for 0-90 years old and even more :)) Even when it gets crowded, with a little patience you can find the moment again when you can read all the information without rushing. We thought there would be much fewer statues and that we would have enough time to visit. But the history of Amsterdam alone includes 90 sand statues, each of which speaks of a certain moment. For each one there is a description of that moment. Everything is very captivating. When you look at the expressions on the faces of the statues you feel like in the movie “Night at the Museum” and you expect them to come to life at any moment. So our advice is to allocate more time because the whole complex is worth it and the atmosphere is so warm and relaxed, why not prolong the moment before returning to everyday life?
Look A — Google review
Nice exhibition all about Amsterdam and its history. If you want to read the signs with information at each sculpture you can easily spend half a day here. Nice shops and two restaurants complete this place.

Don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge this attraction by what it looks like from the road. Well worth a visit. Extremely friendly staff and amazing workmanship in sand and wood. Food was great to.

An interesting place to spend the day with your family and friends. The place was full with tourists and groups, still there is enough place to walk around. The sculptures are huge and I was surprised by the level of detail of some of them, specially the ones depicting WWII. Worth to visit (at least once). Inside the park there are restaurants and small cafes. You can easily spend around 4 hours.

Beautiful sand sculptures with great in detail explanations. In a very nice location. I was surprised how close you could get to the sand! They really trust the audience. Not ideal for young children, unless you want to play close attention at all times, but a very enjoyable hour.

We visited the Amsterdam-themed exhibition. It was elaborated in beautiful created sand sculptures. A tip; Groups often come, if there is a groep in front of you, wait a bit before going in and first have a drink in the restaurant, then you can enjoy the exhibition a few minutes later without shuffling.

Museum with a parachute-shaped venue & exhibits on the liberation of the Netherlands in WWII.
Highly recommend a visit to this museum which gets you thinking & discussing with companions the parallels of 80-90 year ago with today. I particularly like this format, rather than traipsing round looking at objects, you find yourself drawn into the stories behind them & think of how today, images & words can be used to sell a narrative. The staff are superb, extremely helpful & provide an insight to the experience before you begin your visit. One of our party is disabled & he was offered the use of a wheelchair for the trip. A visit here should certainly be on your itinerary, your brain will thank you for its Spring Clean.

Great Museum. Very interesting permanent exhibition, excellent temporary ones. Very educational and entertaining at the same time. Great guides. Charming, knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit or two.

Best museum that we visited in the Arnhem and Nijmegen area. Very thought provoking detailing the world leading up to WW2, the Occupation, Market Garden and post war.
Paul W — Google review
If you are at all interested in world war 2 and operation Market Garden then this museum is a most see. What was really impressive, and even slightly scary, was sitting in the replica bomb shelter listening to a bombing raid directly overhead. The museum staff were exceptionally friendly and as I arrived early on a normal working day, I had the entire museum almost for myself. For the real enthusiastic world war 2 visitor, I would recommend combining this visit to the airborne museum, another exceptional museum, just outside Arnhem

Happened to visit on Liberation Day with plenty going on. Interested particularly in Operation Veritable, finding a long lost relative on the Roll of Honour was a highlight. Particularly enjoyed hunting down the spies in an escape room type interactive area before joining the main museum. Took the jeep tour around the 82nd landing zones, then went on to visit the Reichwold Forest. Also interested in the Market Garden related exhibits, all in all a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Very informative and nice museum. You can see how much effort they put into this museum. Highly recommend this.

The Freedom Museum explains very well the causes, conflict and outcome of World War Two with a particular focus on Operation Market Garden. The events of the Paratrooper landing and battles which ensued, as well as the civilian experience of war and resistance are very well exhibited. The array of items and audio visual experiences I saw are some of the best I've seen from a war museum. For only 8 euros as a student and a WW2 reader, it was money very well spent. Special thanks to the Stagg and their expertise and passion for keeping the museum's message of liberation alive.

Very beautiful building. With lots of storytelling about the wars in Europe with videos, well-made life like mannequin, and a bunker for the look and feel. Will recommend a visit. Had a canteen and parking

The Africa Museum offers a diverse collection of tribal and contemporary African art and crafts, complemented by an outdoor museum featuring reconstructed villages. Visitors can explore a mix of historic African villages, artifacts, and modern identity-focused installations. During school holidays, children can participate in various activities such as creating Surinam freedom birds. Although the outdoor museum presents an unusual blend of old and modern urban Africa, it does not seamlessly integrate into one cohesive experience.
It is really a nice place. The small African Village outside and the Museum inside has a lot to say. Our weekend visit was amazing. There are also some Friendly kids places. My favourite place was the African Barber shop. The images on the Wall Reflect the real African Youth Culture. Shortly: it is a Small Great Place.

A small cute museum about Africa and the past slavery. The collection is quite small but interesting. The stories about people with an emigration background is interesting. However, I found that the colonial history of Africa was too much focused on the last 100 years. It showed a map of how Africa was divided in 1914. While at this point the Netherlands was no longer in Africa (Surprise). The outside collection shows a few small villages which are interesting, beautiful and kid friendly. I think the museum has a lot of potential but can be improved. Also it sometimes lacks explanation and there is no English explanation.

The Afrika Museum is a museum about people Located in the wooded hills of Berg en Dal near Nijmegen. It has both indoor and outdoor exhibits, with regularly changing temporary exhibitions and permanent displays of traditional African objects and its large collection of contemporary African art. Objects that reflect the customs and traditions of different African peoples. They tell stories about universal human themes like mourning, celebration, ornamentation, prayer, conflict; stories that inspire visitors to find out more about the huge cultural diversity to be found in the world. Most of the exhibits are in Dutch and German. But there are English audio options for some of the exhibits. Outdoor exhibits are worth visiting with children. It is good to rent a bike from Centraal Station if you are visiting via public transport. If you take a bus still you will have to walk around 2 kms to reach the place.

An interesting museum about Africa tucked away in a fairly remote corner of the Netherlands. Worth a visit especially if you have kids since they are a lot of fun child friendly activities integrated into the muse experience. One minor drawback is that most of the exhibits are in Dutch and German. There is an audio-guide in English but it doesn't give a complete overview of everything.

You will see and experience the real life of African, from East to West, North to South, completely wrapped in this museum. They have quite nice and amazing collection, also miniatur of typical African house from different countries in Africa Quite huge park to walk around, we were there when the weather was quite hot, around 31°C. So we felt the heat just like in Africa

Nice museum, friendly people. Mix of historic African villages and artefacts with modern identity oriented installations. Kids activities during school holidays, like making Surinam freedom birds, see picture. The outdoor museum is a bit of a weird mix of old and modern urban Africa. This is not really working as one experience. We dearly missed the pygmee village in the forest. Our girls always played such a nice games there. It's all gone. Such a pity. The outdoor games are fun. Coffee a bit old from the thermos, but gift shop, visitors and people all friendly.

I loved the open air section of the museum. The indoor museum is interesting but does not cover as much as I'd hoped or expected. Definitely worth a visit in though!

The Overloon War Museum, also known as Oorlogsmuseum Overloon, is a significant museum in the Netherlands dedicated to World War II history. It boasts an extensive collection of military vehicles and weapons, including a German Panther tank that participated in the local battle of Overloon. As one of Europe's oldest WWII museums, it offers a tangible experience for visitors to learn about the war's impact on the Netherlands.
Mainly came here to see the tanks , but it's a very big museum that it would take almost all day to look at everything . I recommend arriving when it opens. Parking next to museum has a good capacity and is free. There's an exhibition about WW2 in the Netherlands and about people who lived during the war in Netherlands + WW2 info. What I really liked was the D-Dex exhibition, it's like a simulation where you could be an American soldier and land in the beaches. I have only a few problems with this simulation... When you're waiting for it to start outside, and you put English, it simply doesn't work. It's still in dutch + add more water, because I could easily pass the water sprinklers and not get wet :) in mostly some of the parts of the museum, it's either in dutch or German. . . But if I'm sure there was an audio guide on their website for the English. Edit: Thanks for the response! When I was waiting for the D-Dex version in English, it had the British flag, so I went in and it was still in dutch. Personally I don't think it's a big problem since there was more English than dutch, but I still liked my experience here!

ZooParc Overloon in Noord-Brabant offers a safari park experience where visitors can encounter big cats, giraffes, and flamingoes. The hilly park allows guests to walk among the animals and even participate in feeding sessions. The zoo features a well-thought-out layout with spacious paths surrounded by lush greenery, creating a natural habitat for the animals. Visitors can also enjoy adventure paths for children and a large playground near the entrance.
What a lovely zoo! It felt very safe for the animals with visitors walking through their enclosures and plenty of places for them to hide away if they want to. Lots of lovely vegetation making it feel very natural. We spent nearly five hours here walking around as a family. Would recommend for a family day out.

Very nice zoo to spend a day. There are 2 places with a bigger playgrounds where kids can unwind. (Start and about half way along the route) They also have different expositions from time to time. I went to see the dinosaur and ice age onces. I preferred the dinosaur one but both are nice and a good variety to the animals running around. The animals all look very healthy and have nice enclosures. They are also in the proces of expanding with even more and better enclosures for their animals.

Wonderful family experience!! Such a variety of animals in the most natural environment for each species I have even seen!! There is opportunity to buy a day pass to be the "zoo-keeper of the day", so you go around the animals, feeding and taking care of them, while learning more about them. Unique experience!! Fully worth visiting!

The red Pandas!!!!!! OMG, I could have watched them all day. This zoo is an absolute hidden gem. Relaxed, and easily accessible with a beautiful selection of fascinating animals. Some of which I literally never knew existed, penciltail pigs! And some wonderful spider monkeys, plus oooohhh the Brazzameercat..it was awesome.

General score out of 10: 9️⃣ If you want a different zoo experience from the usual this might be it. ✅ Zoo design. It has been designed to help visitors see all the animals and experience the entire zoo by following the route from start to finish. + You don't get lost. + You don't miss any animals or attractions. + Makes for a great experience. ✅The first zoo I have experienced with zoo guides who talk about the animals for those interested. I particularly enjoyed my encounter with the guide at the kangaroos. ✅ Several Adventure paths have been placed along the route. This keeps the whole visit much more fun for kids. + Our three kids 8,6, and 4 didn't complain about tiredness the whole time. ✅There are some animals you won't find at any other zoo. Eg: Dwarf hippopotamus, Okapi, most lions I have seen in one zoo(5),etc. ✅ Suitable for wheelchairs and prams/strollers. ✅ Washrooms for all groups including wheelchair, old, baby changing, parking place for stroller or pram. Definitely a plus. ✅ The biggest playground is at the end of the route. If you have kids they won't want to skip it so have enough time for that part too😊. ✅ Soft icecream at the shop by the trampoline is really good but it too big. You may want to share with the kids instead of getting one for everyone to avoid throwing them away after having too much. + Suggested they make child portions. ➕✅Tip: Check "vakantie veilingen" to find the best discounts on tickets.

A nice and well maintaned open air Zoo with a lot of different animals to see. Setup is in different zones to seperate the type of animals and habitat. Make sure to pick a dry and sunny day, it is all open air. It big enough for spend half a day. Downside; rediculous prices for food and snacks. $12 for a simple small burger and $7 for a few fries is outrageous!

Toverland is a family-friendly amusement park in the Netherlands that offers magic-themed roller coasters, rides, live shows, and restaurants. It's a great destination for a holiday with children, offering an array of attractions suitable for both thrill-seekers and those seeking a more relaxed experience. The park features well-decorated surroundings and even includes indoor activities for rainy days. Visitors can enjoy various rides and games while also indulging in reasonably priced food options.
What an awesome birthday! 🥳 After years, I finally made it back to a theme park. I let chance completely decide where to go – and ended up at #Toverland in the Netherlands. Best decision ever! For the first time, I brought my camera along to take pictures of #rollercoasters. And what can I say? #Coaster-Spotting was incredibly fun! 📸 I was particularly impressed by how incredibly child- and family-friendly the park is. With the huge indoor hall, the many creative playgrounds, and the cool climbing park, Toverland is an absolute paradise for families, even in bad weather. The food was delicious, the staff was consistently friendly, and the weather showed its best side. Instead of the predicted rain, we had pure sunshine. ☀️ But my personal highlight came at the very end: the "Last Ride" on the wooden roller coaster #Troy. Since I hadn't been on a roller coaster myself in years, this last ride was really emotional for me and the perfect end to a perfect day.

Really nice park. My kids loved it as there was so much for them to do. There was some stuff we didn't manage to do as they were happy just playing in all the various play areas. and there are some rides we couldn't ride due to height restrictions, but we will definitely be back when they are taller to ride them all. The park was very clean and tidy. The theming was really good and the little interactive elements entertained the kids. The shows we watched were good too. I liked how compact the park was as it made it easy to walk around all day no long paths of nothing to walk down. You exited one area and entered another very quickly with something new and exciting to find around each corner.

A lovely day out, Fenix and Troy bring the standout rides. Every member of staff we dealt with were brilliant! Excellent value for money, considering the array of rides to choose from. Had lunch at the Flaming Feather and the burger was perfect.

Really nice theme park. Not very crowded, clean and well maintained. If you like rollercoasters, this is a nice park to be. There are, at least four or five. The wooden and the Fenix ones are for adrenaline people. Awesome. We liked it a lot. It is great for kids from 4 and up.

Came a few weeks ago, honestly had the best day. We were fortunate to have blue sky's and sunshine. Definitely our favourite theme park we have ever visited. The indoor area for kids is fantastic, offers hours of fun. Never seen anything like it. There's so much to do here, one day is not enough. Fingers crossed we can come back one day!! 😁
Louisa D — Google review
This park was really good for all ages. They had plenty of rides for little ones and also had rides for bigger kids and adults. I can't say anything about the food as we took lunch with us as we didn't want to waste time waiting for food. If you plan your day right you can see the whole park in one day.
Daryl D — Google review
The main rides are alright. When we were there werent many guests so I can‘t really judge the queues. Food was good, really liked the Pasta inside the hall. Friendly staff members all around, especially the guy on the climbing activity
T K — Google review
Very nice park. Most of the attractions had a queue line under 15 minutes which obviously is ideal. Although a few rides had a very low capacity almost everything was doable. Enough spaces to rest, eat and relax next to all the thrills. And an appreciation towards the park for keeping everything clean non-stop.

Ouwehands Zoo, located in Rhenen, is a renowned establishment known for its diverse range of animals and naturalistic habitats. One of its main attractions is the presence of giant pandas, making it the only zoo in the Netherlands where these creatures can be found. The zoo offers a relaxing atmosphere with ample space for both animals and visitors. It's particularly suitable for families with children, as there are various play areas available.
We recently visited Ouwehands Zoo and had a wonderful time. The zoo is well-organized and beautifully maintained, with spacious and natural-looking enclosures that show great care for the animals. One of the highlights for us was seeing the giant pandas – such a rare and special experience in Europe! We really enjoyed the variety of animals from around the world, especially the bear forest and the indoor jungle. The zoo offers a good balance of fun and education, with plenty of interesting facts and interactive exhibits throughout. Everything was clean and easy to navigate, and we appreciated the number of places to sit, relax, and enjoy a snack or a drink. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made our visit even more pleasant. Overall, Ouwehands Zoo exceeded our expectations. It’s a perfect destination for a day trip and we would definitely recommend it to families, couples, or anyone who enjoys nature and animals.

We had a wonderful time at Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen! It’s a truly beautiful zoo – very clean, well-maintained, and the enclosures are thoughtfully designed and spacious. Of course, the highlights were the pandas and koalas, but we were also really impressed by the huge bear forest with a kind of hanging bridge that lets you walk above the enclosure – such a unique and beautiful experience! What made it extra special for us was how family-friendly the park is. There are several playgrounds throughout the zoo, and the giant indoor playground was the absolute highlight for our son. Honestly, that alone would have made the visit worth it! It was quite busy during our visit (summer holiday season), but there were plenty of parking spaces, and the great thing is that the parking is right next to the zoo – no long walk required. The only thing we found a bit disappointing was the lack of English translations. While we didn’t expect everything to be in German, it would’ve been great to have English descriptions alongside the Dutch animal information signs. Also, the zoo map was only available in Dutch, which made it a bit harder to navigate or understand the details. In most German zoos, having English maps and signs is quite common nowadays, so we missed that here. Still, it’s a fantastic zoo overall, and we highly recommend a visit – especially for families!
Lisa — Google review
Went on a weekday in November, pretty quiet. Even though it is not one of those big zoos we spent a good 6 hours there and still did not get bored. The kids liked especially the big covered playground area, which I understood was the biggest in Europe for a while (maybe it still is). Nice one which I would like to visit again.
Razvan B — Google review
This is a fantastic zoo. We had a fab day. Some of the enclosures are so well thought out, especially the bears with a kid's rope bridge to walk above them. The play area is the best I've ever seen too. Amazing day out, would definitely recommend.
Ian M — Google review
Went with my boyfriend and had a pretty decent time there. We got the day pass + night light ticket, and here is our experience: Staff: 5/5 Everybody was very friendly & helpful and they were everywhere so if you have a question or need help they’re always there Vibes: 4/5 They put a lot of effort in decorating the zoo so it has a nice ambiance & the enclosures were pretty decent. Toilets were clean despite how crowded it was! The light attractions were also really pretty & you can see nocturnal animals starting their day after 5 pm Animals: 2/5 Nothing I’ve never seen before except for the pandas & polar bear. The pandas were adorable, but they seem super bored & there’s a lack of interaction between the zookeepers and these pandas. They were just kind of left there like a goldfish in a bowl… Same with the elephants. We saw them literally plucking grass in their enclosure because of how bored they were. They should learn a thing or two from more interactive zoos like Bali Zoo where they allow feeding sessions (they sold carrots that we could feed to the elephants & we had breakfast with orangutans) so the more intelligent animals don’t go crazy bored in their enclosures. They need intellectual stimulation too!! The worst part that kind of ruined the day for me was the single polar bear. I don’t know the story behind why that ice-bear is in the middle of Netherlands, but the bear was clearly depressed (& probably way too hot). The polar bear enclosure looked unkept and it had a pool completely green & filled with algae, so it can’t even swim to cool off. Even if the polar bear was under rehabilitation for something, it deserves a cleaner enclosure (and a proper way to cool off, especially in the summer!) Tbh I think it’s better off to send the polar bear to a zoo somewhere with a more comfortable climate for them, like maybe Finland or Norway. Polar bears shouldn’t live out in the open in such a hot European climate when they’re used to -20 degrees Celsius or less (imagine being forced to live somewhere where it’s 20 degrees Celsius hotter than what you’re used to). I find it ironic that they claim to be an ‘Arctic Ambassador’ when their polar bear is so sadly curled up in the corner like that… Food: 3/5 Standard zoo food. They sell snackbar foods like burgers & frikandel. A bit overpriced for what they are so I suggest to bring your own food and drinks to the park (yes, they allow this) Others: They have a designated playground area for children and they tried to put a frog enclosure next to the playground. The frogs were nowhere to be seen Overall: 3/5 Pretty good zoo for children but the condition of their animals is slightly worrying

However, visitors may want to ensure that there are no events such as funeral exhibitions taking place during their visit, as this can be upsetting.
Heel mooi tuinen.. was amazing to see .. if you're a landscape architect.. this place is gardening bloody heaven! So rustig en peaceful...

We visited park in October. Judging from how the park is now — it might have been better, it might have been better if it would close in September. Because at this point it’s mostly showroom for different garden designs; not much flowers or special things to see. So this part of the year.. it feels like you’re paying 20 euros just to see the garden ideas. It doesn’t feel like a “day out”. Good chance that it’s fun in summer. There were like 6 people in total in whole park at Tuesday. With dog it was alright, smooth. I guess for same price you could go to Kasteeltuinen Arcen, which will give you much-much more for about the same price. Because this feels more like you stepped to someone’s garden. Most restaurants were closed as well. But overall it was fun. Because of the company 🙂
Daryna V — Google review
Wonderful place to get good ideas to design your garden. A large variety of flowers, plants and trees to look throughout all the different designs splitted in 4 area's. The advice is to visit Appeltern gardens by end of April when the weather is better and flowers are having more blossom. During our visit the blue and purple area were pretty empty so nothing to see there, We think this should be reflected in the entry price. So best visit time is June till September.

Great place for a day out for the garden lovers. A huge place with many different areas and gardens for every taste. Also fun for kids as there is a playground and some other fun things to see and do. It also has various places to have a drink and some food. Finally there is a nice shop with garden flowers and all kind of ornaments and other gifts. Plenty of parking.

A wonderful, inspiring place, I recommend it to every fan of gardens, but also to those who like nature. You need to find time for at least 4 hours. In the area there are opportunities to have a snack or coffee and sit directly in the gardens

An amazing garden full of garden inspiration. A great playground for children that will entertain adults as well. It is worth spending a whole day here. The plant shop is great, they don't have a big selection, but I found what I was looking for :).

Very beautiful gardens. Great if you need inspiration for your garden or just like looking at plants. We had a great day. The parking was good and costs 3 euro. We were a bit disappointed by the quality of the food but that is personal preference. There are a lot of paths to follow and a recommended route would have been nice (if there is one I am sorry I missed it. ) Recommended!

The Mondriaan House, located in Amersfoort, Netherlands, is a modern museum dedicated to the life and works of the renowned Dutch artist Piet Mondriaan. Situated in the very building where Mondriaan was born in 1872, this museum offers a comprehensive exploration of his artistic journey. Visitors can immerse themselves in his early realistic pieces as well as his later groundbreaking abstract compositions that transformed modern art.
This is a small and lovely museum. It should be noted that this museum is focused on the biography and life of Mondrian rather than his art. There are only a handful of his artworks on display. I really enjoyed the light show between rooms 8 and 9 — don't miss it! Also, the Mondriaan Café is very cozy
Xu — Google review
A wonderful museum in the artist's hometown. Visitors can admire many of his early works, along with personal belongings and a faithful reconstruction of his Paris studio. The highlight, however, was the final room, where you could create your own inspired pieces using LEGO, paper cutouts, and paints - a playful way to channel the creativity sparked by everything you had just seen.
Nikolas H — Google review
Mondrian House offers an immersive experience of Piet's life and the evolution of his creativity. The 'birthplace' is purely a brick shell that houses a very white angular interior with glass roof voids. The art collection featuring original Mondriaan works is limited to one room, however the life story is elaborately reconstructed. Really engaging for kids.

The only downside of this museum is that there aren’t that many Mondrian works - though there are some totally unexpected ones! The exhibition itself is fascinating, with great storytelling, a stunning installation in one of the last rooms, and plenty of space for kids’ creativity - including a fun museum quest and a whole room for arts and crafts.
Olga D — Google review
There are barely any painting from Mondriaan, and there is only one room that recreates his apartment in Paris. Had I paid the entrance fee instead of using my museum kaart, I would have felt ripped off. I spent about 45 minutes and I read and saw most of the descriptions and videos.
Diego A — Google review
A really nice visit — small and cute museum that gives a great retrospective of Mondriaan’s life and work. There are always small guest exhibitions and some activities for children at the end, which is a fun addition. I especially enjoyed the surprise projection at the end. Just keep in mind there are no original artworks, so the whole experience takes about 20–30 minutes. Still well worth the stop!
Miguel H — Google review
A very nice place. The curators found a very creative and engaging way to tell about Mondrian's life and artistic style and its evolution. Great example of how you can make a place interesting without any major art works. 100% worth visiting if you are in the area.
Elizaveta S — Google review
A very small museum showcasing the personal history of Mondriaan. I don't recommend more than one hour. For museum card it's free entry so it's doable, but paying full price is not a very good idea.

Dierenpark Zie-ZOO is a unique zoo in Volkel, Noord-Brabant, known as the care zoo of the Netherlands. It is run by individuals with autism and features a variety of animals and insect-inspired play equipment designed for children with autism. The zoo offers an interactive app called Zie-Zoopia for visitors to learn about the animals and their habitats. Despite being smaller than traditional zoos, it boasts a diverse range of species and has plans for further expansion.
This Zoo was bigger than I expected. Its good for a afternoon visit and it is not too crowded. A large variety of animals (small and large). And they are actually expanding. Everything looks well tended. Animals have large homes. Nice people and well worth a visit. Café got a lot better since last we been here, so that is also nice.
Stephany B — Google review
If you want to see Rock Hyraxes (also known as Cape Hyrax)- definitely pay a visit to Zie-ZOO! A wonderful Zoo with plenty of animals to see🥰
Yeva — Google review
It's a nice, cute zoo. They have a good number of animals and it was not very busy when we were there. However, most of the animals are in very small enclosures. I generally don't like that. The newer party offer much bigger enclosures and I understand the older part is up for renovations. Maybe the total number of animals will decrease in this process with the area available pretty animal increasing. Until then, the score is limited a bit for me.
Casper J — Google review
It's a small zoo, nothing fancy, but it's ideal for children. There's plenty to see, very well taken care of, lovely playground. Not to crowded, so perfect for children that easily get overwhelmed. And because it's so small, you can take your time and relax, you will be able to see everything this zoo has to offer within your visit (a few hours, not an entire day) We had my daughters birthday party at Ziezoo and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect afternoon! The kids had so much fun, they loved everything about it! The staff is super friendly and they took such good care of everything! I definitely recommend throwing your kids birthday party at Ziezoo. It was was absolutely perfect (my daughter and her friends are ages 5-6)
Jolijn K — Google review
Slightly smaller than a usual zoo but displayed a great range of species. Also has a small cafe with food to grab, a nice outdoor sitting area, a playground for kids and toilets. Staff was friendly, approachable and happy to switch to English when needed. Absolutely recommended.
Anna N — Google review
It's ok to visit if it is just near you, but not quite worth it if you are from a far away place. The playground is nice in particular.

I rather liked it here though it's still in various stages of reconstruction for several habitats. We look forward to going back when the maintenance/rebuilding is done.

Sights & Landmarks
Soestdijk Palace, a 17th-century hunting lodge turned royal residence, is now open to the public on weekends. The palace is located in Soest, a city known for its historic castle and rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the Military Aviation Museum and the Nationaal Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement. The palace boasts beautiful gardens with diverse plant life and a charming restaurant.
A lovely glimpse into Dutch royal history and the lives of our beloved queens. Although the palace feels a bit dated and not all signage is in English, it still offers a fascinating window into royal life. The gardens were the highlight for us, especially on such a glorious summer day. Despite my limited mobility, I managed to explore nearly the entire grounds—including the somewhat forlorn pool with its unfortunate frog residents, the charming flower-filled tennis court, and other beautifully maintained buildings surrounded by vibrant blooms. Staff were all warm and accommodating. Great toilet and coffee facilities too!

Located at Amsterdamsestraatweg 1, 3744 AA Baarn, Netherlands 🇳🇱. The Palace Opening Hours - Days: Friday – Sunday
Times: 10:30 PM – 17:00 PM Cost to tour is - Adult €13.50 Children (4-12 years) €10.00 Children (0-4 years) FREE 🆓 If you only want to visit park on Palace Grounds, it’s €5.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased at Palace or online. There’s a nice selection of places you can have something to eat eg The Orangery where you can have lunch. We had a delicious meal, reasonably priced and super tasty 😋. You can also have a Royal High Tea here . There’s also Julia’s Museum Cafe which is located in the basement of the Palace for tea, coffee or biscuits. The Palace was initially built as a hunting lodge in the 17th century, it later became an official royal residence and summer retreat for Dutch royalty. We got the train from Amsterdam to Baarn Station and then bus 🚌 to the Palace. You can make it a day trip from Amsterdam but we decided to stay overnight in a local hotel. This way, we could take our time. We had a fantastic time at the palace. The grounds are immaculate, so beautifully maintained. The Palace was beautiful but rather simple inside but still beautiful. Just needs a little renovation. There’s a lot of walking involved so wear comfortable shoes. The whole estate is very large. I had a wonderful time at the palace and would certainly recommend. Thumbs Up!!! 👍👍👍

Nice for a day out! Beautiful gardens with a lot of flowers and variety of plants. There’s a nice restaurant there although they are under staffed so they can be very slow to take your order. The whole state is huge! So be ready for a day full of walking. Getting here by public transport is easy but there are not a lot of options so if you miss your bus back be ready to wait an hour or more for the next one.
Eduardo M — Google review
If you're interested in life of Dutch Royal family, this is the right place to go!! But don't expect luxury interiors inside this palace. It's very simple. Park is beautiful and comfortable for a short walks. There is a lovely Cafe in a former green house.

Very interesting history with knowledgeable host, lovely gardens. Worth the €10 entry fee.

Nice former Royal palace. The gardens are nice to walk. Parking is about €2,50 for an hour (max €7,50/day). The palace itself need maintenance inside and outside but inside it a leap back in time (seventies). The give concerts in July (front garden) and all the artists are spectacular from both national and international allure

Paleis Soestdijk is opened from Friday to Sunday and it is a medium-sized palace. It is huge outside but there is not much to see inside. All porcelains are removed and the cupboards are all empty(see photos). The portraits exhibition is unattractive to me. Most decorations and furniture are not there. The staffs are very friendly. The royal garden is small and has a few items such as a lake with usual fountain, wooden white bridge, wooden chair, wooden house and a hut to show only. It will take half day or less to visit. I would recommend Paleis Het Loo instead. It is the best palace in Holland.
Toyyou2jp T — Google review
Was there because of the live tv- broadcast of "Wie is de Mol". Location is perfect but I think the Palace, although i haven't been inside, falls into the old glory category and it could use a little paint here and there 😁 but the entourage was fine last night also because of the final exposure of the Mole of course😊

The DAF Museum in Eindhoven is a tribute to the renowned Dutch manufacturer, showcasing an array of trucks, rare production vehicles, and prototypes. Founded in 1928 by the Van Doornes brothers, the museum delves into the company's history and its evolution over time. Visitors can explore a reconstruction of the 1930s era, featuring the factory, office of the Van Doren brothers, neighboring shops, pub, and vintage garage.
Really cool museum. Not very big, still a great collection of classic and modern vehicles. From tanks, fireman trucks, trucks and more. The kids love it because they can go inside of them and "play and drive". You can eat in the restaurant. There are clean toilets and a wardrobe. The different ambients are super well done. It is included in the museum card. Commuting by car with external paid parking, bus stops nearby or by foot.

A truly wonderful museum. There are lots of things to look at, but also to touch and try out. The staff are very helpful and explain things really well. There are even driving simulators so you can experience what it feels like to drive a truck. I highly recommend a visit here. Thank you for having me as your guest.

One of the best museums to visit in Eindhoven. You get to see all kinds of Trucks (racing, heavy duty, military etc), car (vintage, racing, wagon etc) and trolley. The museum is well maintained preserving the minute details. Information is provided for each of the vehicle. Great place to visit alone or with friends. Must visit once.

Located in the Stratumseind district of Eindhoven, the Van Abbemuseum is a renowned institution for modern and contemporary art. Since its establishment in 1936, it has undergone significant renovations, including a futuristic extension surrounded by a moat. The museum's extensive collection features works by prominent artists such as Picasso, Mondrian, Chagall, and El Lissitzky. Visitors can explore a diverse range of contemporary art from both Dutch and international artists through ever-changing temporary exhibitions.
It’s a very nice museum. It’s mainly focused on abstract art, which I usually dislike a lot, but many parts of the exhibition took me by heart. The architecture of the building is also amazing, with nice balconies to observe the river. In some places, you can see 4-5 floors below, which is not the best option if you’re afraid of heights. This is the most memorable museum when it comes to feelings that it provoked.

A compact but world-class spot for modern and contemporary art. I spent just over an hour with the “Hidden Connections” exhibition—sharp curatorial storytelling and clear English labels—then cooled off in the quiet atrium café. Friendly staff, lockers for backpacks, and plenty of seating make it an easy yes if you’re in Eindhoven.

Nothing spectacular. The museum itself is nicely organized and decorated, but the exhibits are underwhelming. It mainly focuses on the exploitation of Indonesians by the Dutch, showcasing how industrialists used cheap labor. Other than that, there were videos that were uninteresting and looked unprofessional. The best feature was the images accompanied by scented papers, with the smells representing the atmosphere of each picture.

Somehow I wouldn’t go in there if I hadn’t a Ticket for the DDW . But I get suprised about the Architecture inside - like a 4 Floor Labyrinth… Kinda like it - next time I will spend more time!

I love this museum the curation is on point. I was very impressed not only with their selection of art, but also their attempt to stay ecologically friendly by locally souring the art supplies. And mostly for taking responsibility about how H van Abbe got rich on the tobacco industry regarding the Netherlands dark past in regard to indentured servitude and colonialism. Very thought provoking pieces and multicultural artist as well as young artist aswell! Not to mention how inclusive the museum is to wheelchairs, and including sensory version of art pieces! Bathrooms are non-gendered and clean 🎉

This place is the best museum I have ever been so far. I strongly recommend you to visit if you’re interested. A must see place for especially architects! The artwork appeals to the 5 senses of human body and tries to create new ones. I am not even talking about the location of the building where the water beats the exterior walls. Popped up glass niches coming out of interiors literally made my day :)

St. Catherine's Church, also known as St. Catharinakerk, is a stunning Neo-Gothic Catholic church completed in 1867. The original structure was dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria and dates back to the 13th century but underwent severe damage from wars and fires over the years. Restored to its former glory, the current building incorporates symbolic references and features two towers representing the purity of Mary and the strength of David.
St. Catherine's Church, a magnificent building with a rich history, boasts a unique story encompassing fires, wars, and even a period of use as a stable. Its Gothic design is superb. Interestingly, archaeological excavations uncovered approximately 1000 skeletons within the church grounds.

Such a beautiful church right in the middle of the city. I really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere inside — it’s nice to step away from the busy streets for a while. The stained glass and high ceilings are stunning, and I loved discovering the little archaeological displays under the glass floor. It’s free to go in, which is great, and there’s plenty of space to sit and just take it all in. I just wish there were a few more signs or explanations in English, but still, I’d definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in Eindhoven

St. Catherine’s Church tells a unique story. Wars, fires, and even a time when it was used as a stable are part of its journey. This neo-Gothic structure dates back to 1867, but its roots lie in the 11th century. Are any of you budding archaeologists? A great museum in the center of Eindhoven! It's exciting to watch a 130 year technology revolution in your native language! On the other hand, the museum was smaller than I expected. I see the brilliance of historical processes in a better interactive way. But I still recommend it…

A great museum to learn about history of Philips and its connection to Eindhoven region. I liked the history of lights part. For kids there is a nice workshop upstairs Recently they also have added a section on AI and its impact on society. However, what I expected that they would have wider samples from different Radio and Television and Tape recorders etc. from thier more than half a century history, but I was bit disappointed to see only a few. Nevertheless overall definitely worth a visit.

Art center
The Jheronimus Bosch Art Center in Den Bosch, The Netherlands, offers a unique opportunity to delve into the world of the famous medieval painter Hieronymus Bosch. Born and raised in Den Bosch, he is celebrated as the city's most famous son. The center showcases life-size reproductions of all his paintings and blow-ups of his diabolic creatures, providing an immersive experience into his dark and enigmatic works.
This new museum dedicated to Jeroen Bosch is great. You can go all the way to the top of the rotunda by elevator or stairs and see for miles around. Many displays and exact replicas of his art work. Plenty of space to move around. Nice restrooms. Gift shop with reasonable prices for unique items. No food/drink for sale.
Roger C — Google review
This museum is full of surprises. I enjoyed the modern approach on Jheronimus Bosch's artworks and the guide book helped me understand his work better. Staff provides the needed information in a professional, helpful and friendly manner. Take all the time you need, warm clothes (because it's really cold inside) and some friends and enjoy the astronomical clock presentation, as well. 😊
Andreea G — Google review
I was fascinated of Bosch’s work and really enjoyed visiting this art center. They also had some funny trippy movies and huge crazy clock with “animation”
Zhanna — Google review
Extraordinary art experience! Before visiting the museum I didn't know much about the work of Jheronimus Bosch and I was completely blown away by what I saw. The exhibited works are reproductions, but this does not diminish the artistic experience. By entering the museum, you enter a fantastic world that inspires artists to this day. In addition to the work of Jheronimous Bosch, there are also paintings by artists inspired by his work. Also, the world in which the artist created in a very convincing way was revived in the basement of the church. Gallery it self is former Neo-Gothic church where sacred meets surreal. The high ceilings and stained-glass windows set the stage for a journey not just through art, but into Bosch's imagination.  Climb the bell tower for a panoramic view of the town Bosch once walked—unchanged in many ways since his time. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance and cost €12 per person. It is paid exclusively by cards. The ticket comes with a brochure which is very helpful to experience the exhibited works. There is also a guide in the gallery who occasionally explains about individual exhibits.
Zoran J — Google review

What a great museum...the location in a church gives it an extra dimension. You can take the elevator to the rooftop for a great view over the city as well...The paper guide book they give you at the entrance is very interesting too to understand better the artwork! Not to miss....

Nice large guide book provided in Dutch and English. The paintings are reproductions but overall good quality. You can take the elevator to the top of the tower for a panoramic look at the city, although there are windows preventing you from going on the balcony and they were a little bit dirty so that would affect photographs. Gift shop has a wide variety of souvenirs but the t-shirts at $50 is crazy

St. John's Cathedral, located in the heart of Den Bosch, is a magnificent example of Brabant Gothic architecture dating back to the 14th century. This massive cathedral features a soaring 73-meter-tall spire and is renowned as one of the most complete examples of Gothic architecture in the Netherlands. The intricate details adorning its walls include medieval artifacts as well as modern additions like a stone angel statue holding a mobile phone.
It’s one of the most beautiful cathedrals I’ve visit so far. From the front, you can’t really see it’s beauty and the gothic architecture. So I recommend to take a walk around the church to see its real potential haha :) and the beautiful architecture and paintings from inside, are just breathtaking. I visited the church on monday, it wasn’t crowded. The entrance is completely free, and there was an art gallery inside.

Beautiful cathedral! Lovely to walk around in. The staff was a bit dismissive when we asked about the grave of Hieronymus Bosch. They don’t know where he was buried but he was carried out of the church after his funeral, for which there is a stone to commemorate in one of the doorways.

The Noordbrabants Museum is a contemporary museum that showcases a diverse collection of objects related to regional and international history, culture, and art. Established since 1836, the museum houses approximately 30,000 individual items including paintings by Vincent van Gogh and silverware from the 17th century. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions featuring work by contemporary artists.
There is a temporary exhibition called “Landscape of the fall”, by Abdelkader Benchamma. Very beautiful art with creative ideas using lines, and very intelligent idea using the huge space on the wall linking to old paintings from Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel. By this exhibition itself it is already worthwhile to visit. The museum has other long term exhibitions that are also Interesting. One room specially for Van Gogh. I also like some of the still life oil paintings. The historical parts are also interesting, although we ran out of time to observe the details. I am impressed that there were bronze swords from 1800 BC found in north Brabant area.

The Noordbrabants Museum is a really cool place to visit. I love how they mix traditional art with more modern and unexpected historical pieces. One of the things that stood out to me was seeing items that were part of everyday life not too long ago but are now considered history—like the first Apple computer. It’s fascinating to see how things evolve over time. The museum also has an impressive collection of paintings, including works by Van Gogh, Picasso, and other great artists. Walking through the galleries, I felt like I was experiencing both classic masterpieces and surprising bits of modern history all in one place. It’s definitely a museum worth visiting!

Excellent museum, and a must-go-to if one is in Den Bosch. They have special exhibits every month or so, which I don’t usually care for; but the permanent collection is incredible and alone a reason to visit. The building is beautiful; it is like an old mansion, with gorgeous rooms to hold the still more gorgeous art. One could spend hours here. There is a cafe as well, which has delicious donuts from the famous Jan de Groot cafe. Eating them here has the added bonus that one does not need to spend ages waiting in line for the Jan de Groot cafe. Please be aware that service can be slow. But who goes to an art museum who is in a hurry! I highly recommend this gem of a museum. It is well worth the admission fee.

This is one of the best museums I've been to in the Netherlands. The experience of the journey it takes you through stays with you for days after your visit! I strongly reccomend the The Verhaal van Noord Brabant section 😌

Nice museum close to the StJans cathedral. The museum is located in a nice building. The standard exhibition has works from 1500-1950. Nice collection of works of Van Gogh. We visited the special exhibition: Brueghel the family reunion - Five generations under one roof.

Aqua Mundo De Vossemeren

Theme Parks
Aqua Mundo De Vossemeren is a charming resort nestled between two picturesque lakes, offering a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. This destination features not only a serene beach but also an exciting water park and rejuvenating spa services, making it ideal for families and groups alike. The highlight is the expansive Aquapark, which opens in May and boasts the largest outdoor floating play area in the country for those aged 8 and up.
The Subtropical Swimming Paradise called Aqua Mundo has everything for the whole family. I love this place a lot, because it has a good vibe. It has an easy lay out. 👍🌴 The two original water rapids are nice and can speed up at the end, love that! The monkey splash is an unique slide with transparent parts and is really nice except of the cone. The lines between parts hurt in your back.😔 But the slide itself is fun. 👍🌴 The wave pool is not extremely wild but good for families with little children. The waves come every half an hour. At 15 and 45 in the hour.👍🌴 There is enough seating indoors as well outdoors in the new garden. 👍🌴 The lazy river and the white water river are really nice and with good speed for families. 👍🌴 The bar is called Grabbers Joe and it is beautifully themed in a native style roof from Sumatra Indonesia. There is not a lot of choice but it has a basic. Taste is good. 👍🌴 There are 4 hot tubs placed in the Aqua Mundo, the temperature is nice and relaxing 👍🌴 The crew is friendly and as well alert. So no complains! Same for the lockers and fittingrooms are proper and neat. Same for the whole Aqua Mundo, it looks clean and organized.👍🌴

A large swimming pool similar to many other Center Parcs locations, built to the same original plans as Elvedon in the UK. They haven't invested quite so much in big slides or a modern children's splash park, but still have some interesting features like the "monkey splash" slide starting near the very top of the dome and finishing outside with a "toilet bowl" style element. There is also an outdoor pool where you dive down to viewing windows to see fish and sharks in tanks around the sides. The rapids are fun as usual and not too rough for younger children, if they're daring enough. There is also an activity for older children to go down them on rafts, which looked great fun. The changing rooms are plentiful and recently refurbished, with free lockers operated by your wristband, which is also your room key and ticket for the pool entry.
Chris W — Google review
Facilities condition is a mixed bag: the change rooms and lockers were upgraded a few years ago, are clean and convenient. The pool itself and slides haven’t changed much since I was a child 30 years ago. The were upgrading the wild water bath recently. Hopefully that makes it more attractive again.

Clean, well maintained, barely any queuing. Kids loved all of it, alot! Lots of slides, an outdoor crazy river, indoor rapids, hot tubs, waves every 30 minutes and a pool with underwater viewing windows into an aquarium. There's plenty of seating, lockers and changing rooms and a poolside restaurant.
Matt J — Google review
Had a fantastic stay here. The park is well maintained and there's loads for the kids to do. The pool area is really nice but a little dated in parts. Discovery Bay is amazing. The central dome has a tropical area with flamingos. The kids played here for hours. Staff were friendly. Really enjoyed our stay
Jonathan L — Google review
We had a super holiday, accommodation was clean and comfortable and the park was great. Loads of activities, £30 of vouchers for you to use, amazing in door play area and a lovely setting. This place would be amazing in the summer with all the water sports they offer. Our only slight disappointment (and it really is slight) we didn't find the aqua mundo as good as the one at Erperheide.
Amy B — Google review
We stayed here for 4 days. Very good especially with small kids and you don't want to leave the park. The central facility with the waterpark is excellent. The water park get very busy and loud though. Typical for centre parks with the big waterpark. The bungalows seem to have been renovated recently and are quite nice.
Jacob G — Google review
A really good place to stay, love the system here of wristbands, this makes all of the stay really easy and efficient, there a good activities and the rooms could be cleaner though. Beds are comfy and nice to sleep in. The aqua mundo is really fun and I recommend to anyone who goes to try out the wild river. Definitely recommend this place and would love to go again

C-Mine Expeditie offers an immersive tour through the old mine tunnels of Genk, providing a unique and interactive experience that brings the fascinating history of Waterschei's mines to life. Visitors can engage all their senses to truly understand what it was like to be a miner. Upon arrival, participants receive tools for children and an audio tour for parents. The expedition includes an interactive game called Cyril the cricket, which is thoroughly explained by friendly staff.
Excellent !

Stayed extra day to see coal mine. There is no mine, it has been concreted up. If you pay 10 euros you can go see a ventilator shaft that was 6 meters underground. Nothing to do with where miners went or worked. The historic film explains how the mine has become an art center. Just a sad place and dishonest in pretending to be about coal mining.

(Translated by Google) What a nice experience! In any case, C-mine Genk is highly recommended and very impressive. But this interactive children's expedition provided a real experience. Interesting quest along the way. Our three sons were full of wonder and admiration for the miners and learned a lot from them. We as adults were also impressed. We certainly found the VR experience to be an added value. We found it quite challenging to find the cricket at the end, but we did it. Expedition successful! Enthusiastic greetings from Antwerp! Expeditie geslaagd! Enthousiaste groetjes uit Antwerpen!

(Translated by Google) Fun excursion! The expedition provides information in original ways about how it used to be in the mines. This is not done by reading information boards but rather by sound fragments, interactive elements, ... this makes it a fun experience for both young and old. At the end of the expedition you have the opportunity to climb a tower of more than 60 meters. (Original) Leuke uitstap!

(Translated by Google) Probably a fun visit for children. For adults interested in the history of the miners, there's little history, stories, or footage from back then. There are no artifacts or working materials on display. If you want to immerse yourself in how people used to work here, you're better off checking out YouTube or arranging for a local guide. (Original) Voor kinderen waarschijnlijk wel een leuk bezoek. Duitse Oorlogsbegraafplaats Lommel

Military cemetery
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
In this vast 39 acre German cemetery lie the remains of over 39,000 military personnel from World War 2, some of whom tragically were children. It also includes a smaller number of interments from World War 1. A basalt crucifix with "John" and "Mary" at its base stands on an entrance crypt designed by Robert Tischler which contains the effegy of a fallen soldier. The area is surrounded by a 1100 metres earthen boundary and midst it's seemingly endless rows of crosses, random trees lend to an atmosphere of dignified peace. Touchingly families still tend to individual graves with personal tributes and embellishments to this day.
Marc P — Google review
It is only when you look closely at the crosses that you realise that these are not individual graves - there can be 2 or 3 soldiers buried on the front side & the same on the rear side of each cross. There are 39,000 dead here......

(Translated by Google) We passed by here by bike and, of course, had to take a look. How impressive. And it's also a beautiful thought that, in a war situation, you still give victims a final resting place. You'd hope that places like this would teach us that things need to change, but unfortunately, right now, east of here, many young people are dying every day for similar goals: power and wealth.

Bokrijk Open Air Museum, located between Genk and Hasselt, is a popular destination for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of Belgium. The museum features period buildings and furniture that showcase village life before WWI, offering visitors a glimpse into the architectural design of the nineteenth century. Additionally, the outdoor playground at Bokrijk provides entertainment for all ages with giant slides, jungle gyms, and adaptive equipment for disabled children.
This place is amazing, they should have gotten 5 stars. It's huge, full of fun stuff to do and see, for kids and all age. The ticket price, resto price, and workshop price are very friendly. We visited yesterday with our two kids , and in 1/2 day did not finish to see everything because we wanted to spend time in every stops we saw. I will surely come back
Puji K — Google review
When someone tells me "open air museum" I think of a small open farm-type area with 4 or 5 houses and some old machinery depicting what the old times were. Bokrijk Open-Air Museum exceeded my expectations! With over 150 authentic buildings, it's a vast and immersive experience that transports you back in time. From historic homes and farms to working watermills and traditional crafts, there's so much to explore. The attention to detail and sensory experiences make it a standout destination. A must-visit for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a unique Family day out in Belgium! Parking is 5 eur, entrance fee 17 eur pp, and very much worth it. Don't skip the bread tasting at the bakery ;)

Bokrijk Open Air Museum Bokrijk is an extraordinary open-air museum where you can step back in time and truly feel the atmosphere of past centuries. Walking through the vast grounds surrounded by beautiful nature, you get the impression that life from hundreds of years ago comes alive before your eyes. What stands out most is the authentic architecture – old cottages, farmhouses, and craftsmen’s workshops – everything is faithfully recreated to reflect the spirit of traditional villages. Every detail has been carefully designed, allowing visitors to genuinely experience what everyday life used to be like. Apart from its historical value, Bokrijk also captivates with its landscapes. The surrounding nature, picturesque views, and peaceful atmosphere make a visit here not only a history lesson but also a wonderful opportunity to relax. It’s definitely a place worth visiting – both for adults, who will appreciate the richness of culture and tradition, and for children, who can see history come to life in an engaging way. Bokrijk is a journey through time that leaves lasting memories.

Interesting and super nice road into history. Lots of things to see and do for families, also small ones. Roads are all accessible. Workshops for kids are very nice. Take into account that it takes 3-4 hours do it at all at minimum. At the entrance though the weed could be cut. Very nice place to spend a sunday with the family.

Awesome open air museum. All the information boards are available in English. Only a few videos in Dutch were not available in English. We met one awesome worker (a baker) who spoke very good English who we talked with for a while. The site is huge. We probably saw a little over half of it on our day there. I especially liked the 60s section. Be prepared for lots of walking.

This place is a little (big) gem. Great for a fun day out with the kids with plenty to do and space to run around without costing too much (€37 for a family). We were there for 4 hours and didn't manage to see it all. Lots of playing games and exploring the old ways of life. There's also an amazing separate huge park/playground in the site (free). Parking is a reasonable €5. Really happy we came. Had a great time
Dave T — Google review
A great place to spend your weekend! At first I thought it would be just another boring museum, but it turned out to be really interesting. We really enjoyed seeing different master classes like how to make ropes, oils from the flaxseeds and nuts. We even tried their local bakery goods, and they were delicious 👍🏻 We also loved playing games, it was really fun and entertaining. During our walk between the houses, we saw not just the architecture of the houses, but also the everyday life of local peasants like a teacher, a priest, a housewife and a gardener. It was really fun to watch their acting. Besides that, there are lots of live animals, all are very well cared for. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The parking costs 5€, and the horse carriage ride 5€ per person. The price of the ticket is 17€ and it is definitely worth it.
Diana S — Google review
Lovely experience, we were here for an afternoon as left it rather late, in not the best of weather. An entire day would have been better. We spoke english and found it easy to navigate. The restaurant served lovely food in nice surroundings. The whole family got a quick go at spinning a clay pot. I read some of the more negative reviews out of curiosity and honestly they're unrecognisable to the place I visited which was freindly with a number of interesting exhibits. To note visited with autistic child and found it friendly and welcoming with enough to engage, the site is quite large so plan accordingly.

The Japanese Garden in Hasselt is a serene and picturesque oasis, offering visitors a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. As the largest of its kind in Europe, this beautifully crafted landscape features charming stone bridges spanning peaceful ponds teeming with graceful koi fish. Visitors can immerse themselves in Japanese culture through various events such as tea tastings and floral workshops.
The garden looks small on the maps, but you can easily spend at least 2 hours wandeling between the water streams and the Japanese trees and blossoms. You don't really need to book a ticket online. We were a group of 4. We couldn't find any available ones online, but we managed to buy them at the entrance

Beautiful place, especially during springtime. The nature is stunning and the atmosphere is very peaceful. Everything is well designed, clean, and professionally maintained. You can really feel the spirit of Japan throughout the garden, making the experience even more special. Within the complex, there is also a traditional Japanese house, which is very interesting to visit. There is plenty of space to walk around, relax on benches, and enjoy the sun. All in all, I highly recommend this place to everyone.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. Perfect to escape from the busy daily life. The garden is well-kept, with gorgeous trees, little bridges, koi fish, and a charming tea house. Walking around feels so calming, like you've stepped into another world. Perfect for a quiet stroll, taking pictures, a family picnic, or just sitting by the water and relaxing. I could stay here for hours and I'm planning to visit it again soon.

Beautiful japanese garden, largest in Europe! Suitable for families with strollers. There are some pop-up food trucks with japanese food inside the gardens and some japanese vending machines too. It appears you get free entrance if dressed in a kimono or if you wish to take wedding pictures in the garden. But prices are already reasonable (7 eur). Parking is ample and free

We visited the Japanese Garden in Hasselt right at the peak of the blossom season, and it was absolutely breathtaking! 🌸✨ The stunning pink and white cherry blossoms created a magical, serene atmosphere, perfect for a peaceful stroll and unforgettable photos. 📸 The garden is beautifully designed, with charming bridges, tranquil ponds filled with koi fish, and picturesque pathways that make you feel like you've stepped into Japan itself. 🌿🐟

A Japanese themed garden in Hasselt. There is an entrance fee of 7 euro. Inside are Japanese style houses, stream with koi fishes and cherry trees. Its quite beautiful when the cherry trees are blossoming. They sell Japanese food inside but a bit overpriced. It takes just an hour to tour the place. Might not be worth it if there are no cherry blossoms.

Went on 1rst of May. A little bit crowded near the waterfalls however the picknickzone is perfect to enjoy and relax. Nice place to visit. Parking too small, I went to the Park H, max 10 minutes by foot from the japanese gardens.

Pros: The staff was nice! Cons: It was way too crowded to actually enjoy the peace of a Japanese garden. Couldn't find a quiet spot to just relax and take it all in. Honestly, it wasn't worth the trip or the money. Such a shame.

Wonderful place to stop at after a lovely walk through the Sint Truiden orchards and year-round to be honest. Lively, picturesque outside terrace and cosy interior. Great beers, of course, and all warm drinks with the added house whisky and eau-de-bière are delicious. Always lovely to come back.

Open on Sunday for those who want to visit a brewery when all others are closed! I have been there twice already. They have good beer and also wide selection of strong drinks like whiskey, rum and gin. The tour on Sunday is at 15.00, I have taken the tour a few years ago and unfortunately it was only in Dutch, but the tour guide was really amiable and translated in English some parts. Maybe they have English tours now, but we did not ask. As we could not stay for so long we just enjoyed their nice chalet style restaurant. We took tapas to share and a crazy choco drink for dessert. Obviously we tried the beer. Tripel Kannunik is really GOOD.

Park yourself at the tennis club in the back and be amazed by this big brewery. It has a huge terrace which is always full when good weather, simply because this place is just amazing. The staff is really friendly, even though they have to serve so much beer greedy people and run 10km in a day. Brouwerij Wilderen is brewing beer, whiskey and gin. The blond beers, Wilderen Goud and Kannunik are very tasty. There is also a smalls shop where you can buy all different alcohol at democratic prices. Did not order food here, but looks like they serve good tapas. Definitely a hotspot to enjoy the good weather!

Arboretum Tervuren

Nature & Parks
Arboretum Tervuren is a stunning destination for nature lovers in Belgium. The hike through the Sonian Forest to the arboretum and Parc Tournay-Solvay offers breathtaking views of gigantic trees and invigorating forest air. Despite its proximity to the city, this tranquil oasis boasts well-marked walking paths and clean surroundings. It's a popular spot for locals, especially on weekends, offering free parking amidst beautiful evergreen and deciduous trees.
Beautiful place with rich history. I attended a free guided tour on a Sunday, it was really informative and the guide really knew much about the place. Some places are muddy so wearing good hiking gear is recommended! It also gets quite windy and cold near the big tall trees so make sure to dress properly.

nice quiet place with lots of walking paths, sometimes muddy but you can do it... beautiful nature, clean, the paths are very well marked, even though it is very close to the city, it is quiet and peaceful, we met several people there, so people are used to go here and you will not be alone, the parking lot was empty at lunchtime, but when we finished the day, it was full, the toilets in nature... good for small Sunday's family walk...
Marek S — Google review
Not the biggest, and lacks the hills and trails for a hike, but absolutely the best choice for varied and beautiful walks through a forest. There are trees imported from all over the world, multiple routes, some flat parts if you want to stop for a little but not so many that it feels like a park instead of a forest. Genuinely the best forest in Belgium for a walk, very worth it. I also recommend visiting during autumn for that stunning green to orange gradient🍁. PS. The photo with the number 10 shows an area with trees from South America. If you look closely you'll notice they have spiky leaves, they actually feel like cactus 🌵 or aloé Vera, strange but amazing. PPS the white building is the famous African Museum of Brussels nearby, you can take the same photo from the beautiful park in front of it, or visit it, or even better, do both

Just awesome, in some ways beats original Forest. Pity, many bikers do not observe rules and ride on delicate trails. Maybe bigger signs would help? Or hefty fines?

There is no entry fee!! Have been walking there frequently for over 40 years. One of several forestry/park areas in southwest Brussels. A lovely blend of evergreen and deciduous trees. One can see a deer grassing, although not often.
