Parco dell'Orecchiella

Wildlife refuge
Nature & Parks
Nature reserve with brown bears & roe deer in enclosures, plus a mountain garden & small museum.
What a beautiful place to go for walks and to just enjoy nature. You'll find this area different every season of the year. Can't wait to visit on winter.
Gabriel M — Google review
Unfortunately, the Park Office was shut, and finding information on the walks was difficult. It seems local knowledge is required, which is tricky for a visiting Australian. I'm not sure why there are brown bears kept captive here either. The scenery and wildflowers were magnificent, as was the food at the cafe!
Mary H — Google review
Friendly staff, nice park with beautiful places to picnic, play and chill BUT the two enclosures are way to small, especially the one for the bears. Just sad to see those wild animals (actually solitary) in that tiny cage. You have the space, why not use it? Make it 30times the size and it would be barely enough. Shame
Lukas L — Google review
.ost of the facilities were closed when we visited in early May.

Fortress
Located in the Garfagnana area, Fortezza Verrucole Archeopark offers a unique medieval experience. The castle is well-maintained by a passionate team that organizes guided tours and historical re-enactments. Visitors are advised to bring their own food and drinks as there are no refreshment points nearby. The friendly staff, dressed in character costumes, provide an authentic experience and demonstrate medieval technologies like the trebuchet.
Incredibly restored and well kept castle, with amazing views in all directions. Friendly staff, cheap entrance, cheap food and drinks on-site. Just beware the walk up (from the parking) is quite steep and long (10-15 minutes).
Paul I — Google review
I came here on a school trip with my class . very beautiful place and good for walking
Elisa G — Google review
Fortezza itself it is not very big and/or impressive but it has nice view. You have to pay 8/4 € to get in. There is a small cafe with good coffee and some variety of sweet&savory snacks. Nice service.
Maja K — Google review
This beautiful Medieval fort has reopened, a historical place to visit. Thank you to the staff for the fun, info-packed tour. We hope more people, children, families will come to enjoy.
Nikki M — Google review
What an amazing place. Staff dressed in character costume and a lovely, authentic museum showing what it would have been like to live here back in the day. The staff showed us how the trebuchet worked (don’t worry about health & safety, as long as no one stands in the target area 100yds away, it’ll be ok). Loved every minute of our visit. Run by the community so please support them with a visit. Extremely reasonable entry cost.
Gojuryu512 — Google review
Beautiful and well restored medieval fortress, right at the top of a rocky mount, with plenty of attractions and interesting guided tour. Well worth the trip. Ideal for children and grown ups.

Renowned and very popular. Fewer real bargains this year..few leather purses, but plenty of clothes, shoes, belts, linens. Inner row of vendors is more shaded and cooler!

I love Forte dei Marmi, since the first time I visited this beach side area around 5 years ago. Clean, luxury, safe and elegant are suitable words to describe this place. A must visit when you are in Versiglia area.

I love this pier so much. It’s very beautiful, calm and peaceful. Great walk with locals fishing and sitting on benches to enjoy the beautiful scenery. If you come to Forte Dei Marmi I suggest you making a stop here just to relax for a few minutes or hours.
MarQuis T — Google review
Stunning! The beach is beautiful. The pier allows you to see a sunset close up.
Jay J — Google review
Beautiful anytime any season, especially off-season
Carlo P — Google review
it's really small and narrow, shorter and smaller and uglier than the one in Marina Di Pietrasanta. At the end, there's a water fountain, which we let run for 5-6 minutes at around 4pm, but it was boiling hot the whole time.
Alessandro — Google review
Beautiful pier. Great spot for pictures.
Jacob C — Google review
Very nice beach but a bit expensive.
Slava — Google review
It's a gorgeous place to spend an evening enjoying the sea. Usually during weekdays there are not many people therefore you can sit in one of the seats and have lunch or take pictures or simply read a book. It's a quiet place and every once in a while there are fishers. During the weekends it's full of people and it's difficult to enjoy

Great for beginners young and old. Not to difficult but there are quite some steps to and in the cave. We took the Proteus tour with audio guide as we don't speak Italian. For our 8 year old hard to follow, and we translated to our native language (Flemish) which was sometimes a bit of a struggle to get the terms right. The cave was well lit and features some big halls and long corridors. Afterwards there's a viewpoint you can visit with archaeological findings.
Dave B — Google review
Interesting place to visit, very informative guide who speaks very good English. You must book in advance. Beware of steep and narrow stairways though. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Equity Terme is a wondrous space, flora, fauna, hot springs and the Kaste caves. A geographical treat steeped in history.
Monique R — Google review
Great experience and lots of information about the cave by the guide. We also did the zipline and that was fantastic! We loved it!
Thomas D — Google review
I would like to write a review of this experience but due to the unwillingness of the people who are in charge there, we could not go to the caves. First we had to have an online reservation then there had to be at least 5 persons to subscribe to the tour. When there were 5 people at 17.00 o'clock we couldn't go because "the girl" just closed the cash-register!! The lady telling all this went with us inside the 'museum' smoking all the time. I find it staggering that these persons are allowed to treat people this way. Very disappointing!
J.R. — Google review
Majestic. Parts of walkways closed possibly due to rain . Caves closed but still a very pleasant stroll and some lovely views.
Dolores K — Google review
The local team is nice and gentle, ready to entertain guests of all ages. The caves are rather small and limited but the area is really unique. If you do some hiking it would get better. Info some of the activities are closed, you have to book largely in advance, and they are uselessly paranoid about covid rules.

A good place to spend some quality time with your loved ones, the place is immersed in nature with a river flowing next to it. You can get all types of meat here and grill it by yourself in various spots next to your reserved area. As soon as you enter you'll be given a basket with basics and the staff guides you to the place. The quality of meat was good, you can also buy good quality cheese and km0 products here. The Red wine was next level. The place was well maintained, the staff were very friendly. There is a huge parking space within the premises. Would definitely recommend if you want to spend some time in nature with food.

Wonderful butcher and shop selling local products. Here you can find various types of meat, of all cuts and size. It is also possible to grill the meat directly on the spot by accessing a large and well-kept garden. There are grills and barbecues, tables, benches... in short, everything you need to enjoy an excellent outdoor lunch, based on meat. Also the wine is really enjoyable.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've only been living in Italy for close to 15 years, so maybe I misunderstood... But since I was speaking in English with my wife, the guy said €29 for the oil in Italian to his colleague, my wife didn't hear, and then he said €39 to her (we paid it and left)... Kinda a tourist trap...

Beautiful landmark of Lerici. Very nice views and nice areas of the fortress. There is no waiting to enter. However, the premises are empty and lack any interesting exhibition illustrating the origin and history of the fortress and the surrounding area. There are a few (3) screens, but they don't draw the eye.

Palmaria is a 1.9-square-kilometer island located off the coast of Portovenere on the Italian Riviera. The island features Mediterranean vegetation, old military buildings, and cliffs with caves. It is part of the Porto Venere Natural Park and attracts visitors from all over the world. One of its popular establishments is Locanda Lorena, a renowned restaurant that has welcomed celebrities like Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand, and Roberto Benigni.
Beautiful island just in front of Portovenere! It's so easy to reach using a ferry from Portovenere pier which costs 2.50€ each way! On the island there's a few restaurants/refreshment and it's perfect for a beach day or for a hike day (if I'm not wrong you can do the whole island in 2 hours). There are beautiful landscapes and breathtaking view points! On top of that, you can also spot wild goats all around the island ;) highly recommended! A great and quieter alternative to Cinque Terre!

Unfortunately didn't get enough time to complete the walk around the island. Being October the ferry times were not as often as it would have been in the summer or spring. Definitely will come back.

I like this island very much. The ferry boat takes people to Terrizzo but the rest of the island is not crowded. Palmaria is quiet and it has got fantastic views on Portovenere and the surrounding sea. The trekking around the island is nice and relaxing. There are goats walking free on the paths..they have horns but don't be scared, they are nice!

Porto Venere Regional Natural Park is a wild and rugged island reserve that boasts several hiking trails, quaint village restaurants, and the remnants of a 19th-century fort. The stunning blue-green sea surrounds it, adding to the park's breathtaking beauty. A small church overlooking the tranquil sea provides a picturesque location for weddings or peaceful contemplation. This natural sanctuary offers an escape from mundane daily life and serves as a place of solace for those seeking refuge in its unspoiled environment.
One of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I came here with a friend, without knowing what to expect. We climbed the hill behind the castle, and at one point, surprise: there's a freaking church in the middle of the sea! What a view...what a moment! I wish I could go back to that hill, it was so quiet and calm... unlike the other 5 terre

What a beautiful parc. It’s absolutely worth visit it. The best way to visit it is by boat. The islands are super nice. Some very special history. There are companies where you can rent a boat to see the beautiful spots. I advice to take a local guide. They know the rich history of this area.

Beautiful area!! If you have time, I’d highly recommend hiking from Riomaggiore to Portovenere. It was one of the most beautiful and interesting hikes in the area! Hiking down into Portovenere afforded you TONS of spectacular sceneries. There was also a cute cafe along the trail (before you hike down to Campiglia) where you could get coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, and various sweets. We went in early October and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. You can’t miss this area! If you get into Portovenere early enough, you can catch the ferry back! If you end up missing it, you can simply take the bus to La Spezia and catch the train back.

(Translated by Google) We organized a guided tour while the children were busy hunting for Easter eggs inside the castle, another wonderful initiative that was very well organized and fun. The structure of the building is very beautiful, well maintained, with also a beautiful view of the Val Ceno from the top floor. A little bare inside of furnishings and objects of the time, but it is absolutely rewarded by the fantastic guide who with his tales and stories makes you imagine everything and transports you back to medieval times. Definitely recommended for the tour of the castles of Parma.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful afternoon experience with a guide in period clothing (THANKS MARCO!) for a trip inside an impregnable medieval defensive castle. Very kind and well-prepared guide entertaining the visit with stories and anecdotes that were never boring and with interesting points for comparison. Large and well-kept castle with few furnishings or internal frescoes being a defensive structure but full of practical solutions to be impregnable. €6 to enter (better to call to book a visit) and I point out free parking (no blue lines or parking disc) in front of the castle entrance also for motorcycles. Highly recommended and a real discovery on a par with the most famous castles in the area. Castello del Piagnaro, named after the slate used in its construction, stands as a strategic stronghold guarding the city and communication routes. Originally built as a tower in the 10th century, it has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. The castle offers stunning views of the valley and town from its well-preserved fortress. Visitors can wander through alleys and streets leading to the castle, enjoying its remarkable illumination at night.
What a gem!! The castle is well kept and fun to explore. The exhibit/museum with the statutes is fantastic! We walked up and took the elevator down. Both easy options. The staff was nice and even had free audio in English. Very well put together and we were very pleased!

We decided to walk around the town and we ended up at a tunnel that ran under the castle and brought you to an elevator. That brought us to the castle and we walked around the outside. Very beautiful and very well kept area. It was $7 each but we were a bit early since it didn't open until ten so we just walked around the castle and slowly back towards town. There were many little hidden gems of streets and small bridges. It was a really nice walk and finished it off with stopping in the square for a cappuccino and gelato.

Don't listen to the person that wrote not to take the lift. The lift is free. Entrance to the castle is €2 and if you want to also visit the museum, then it's €8 total. Well worth a visit. The view is fab. Come during Medievalis... it's great fun.

Great location. The castle was restored, it's scenic but sadly empty. It hosts a display of menhir statues found in the Lunigiana area and dating back to the Bronze age/iron age 5000 years ago - fascinating monuments that guarded crossroads or river crossings. The menhirs are beautiful and the display inside the museum is scenic with great lighting. By entering the museum you will also get to go on the castle's ramparts, beautiful view over Pontremoli. Pity most of the so-called multimedia material are videos in Italian. Foreign visitors should ask for a discount IMHO

It is illuminated so beautifully at night and you are able to explore it all!! This experience is suitable for all ages and we were even allowed to bring our dog! Some rooms fit up to 20 people

The Museo delle Statue Stele Lunigianesi, located within the Castello del Piagnaro, offers a fascinating insight into the enigmatic artistic phenomenon of the Stele Statues. These male and female stone figures, dating back to the fourth and first millennium BC, boast abstract forms that are part of a significant prehistoric European art movement. The museum provides an elegant and evocative setting for these one-dimensional sculptures, which are considered important artifacts from the region's ancient past.
a beautiful museum that really details the origins of the Statue Stele culture. I was impressed by the castle and the way they used the medieval environment to add poetry and depth to the exhibition. A beautifully preserved fortress perched high above the valley. From the Piazza, in front of the church in Bardi, one takes a walk down the quaint main street towards the castle. Impressive medieval castle on a hilltop over a village. It's BIG and just after the holiday season it was almost deserted. We spent an hour or two roaming the ramparts, the many rooms (including a fascinating exhibition of 29th century socialist paintings) - and yes, the torture dungeon as well. We were pleasantly surprised to be left to roam the place on our own accord. The view of the valley from the ramparts is stunning.

They also have a gift shop if you feel the need to make a purchase.

We took the Tram up the the church, nice views. Its very peaceful amd you could contunue hiking around the back. There is also a restaurant behind the church. Inside the church locals were lighting candles and the ceilings were painted with bible stories. Ponte Gobbo, also known as the Hunchbacked Bridge, is a landmark bridge with a rich history dating back to Roman times. Rebuilt in the 17th century, it features an irregular up and down path and is characterized by its humpback structure supported by eleven stone arches of different height and width. This iconic bridge is a symbol of Bobbio town and is closely linked to the legend of Saint Columbanus and the Devil.
Not only have I been staying in Italy’s most beautiful village (2019). Bobbio is located in the heart of Val Trebbia, a valley described by Ernest Hemingway as "the most beautiful in the world". I discovered last night: “Historians have speculated that Bobbio was the town in which Leonardo da Vinci completed the Mona Lisa. Carla Glori in December 2011 has published her book Enigma Leonardo:decifrazioni e scoperte where the background of the portrait has been identified as the landscape of Bobbio.

Beautiful place, in fact the village has been awarded as the most beautiful village in Italy couple of years back. I fully agree with that! Since we went on Xmas day, there were literally nobody around. The drive through the hill (last 10-15mins of drive) is bit difficult since the width of the road is just enough for one vehicle. But with almost no traffic, seems to be ok. I love to visit the tourist places when it is empty, and I am glad I picked the Xmas day for the visit. There is a restaurant near this bridge, but was closed. The village also was very quite. Just my kind of place!

(Translated by Google) Cathedral of Bobbio, its construction dates back to 1040 when Bobbio became the seat of the bishop. The structure is in Romanesque style, but all the posthumous transformations are perceptible. The facade is from the mid-1400s. The visit inside is very pleasant. Noteworthy is the fifteenth-century ceiling that is found in a small room on the right as soon as you enter; and the annunciation also from the fifteenth century that can be found in the small chapel to the right of the main altar. The Borgo Medievale di Bobbio is an incredibly beautiful and well-regarded historical landmark. Despite previous claims labeling it as the dirtiest village in Romagna, these allegations were proven false upon closer inspection. The village boasts clear and pristine water that flows from its bare rocks, adding to its charm. Walking through the Borgo Medievale di Bobbio evokes a sense of awe and appreciation for its rich history.

(Translated by Google) In the picturesque Trebbia Valley, the medieval village of Bobbio is certainly one of the most famous attractions, having been awarded the TCI Orange Flag and named "Borgo dei Borghi" (Borghi of the Villages) in 2019 in a well-known television contest. That said, the goodwill of its administrators in the care and maintenance of its architectural heritage, its cleanliness, and the excellent range of tourist services are also impressive: paid and free parking, shops, restaurants, and hospitality. Worth visiting are the Gobbo (or Devil's) Bridge, the Cathedral and its charming square, the Museum of the Abbey of San Colombano and the church of the same name, and, if you have time, the Castle, the Mazzolini Collection, and the churches (San Lorenzo, Madonna dell'Aiuto). A truly wonderful discovery in a country like ours, which always offers, often on its doorstep, wonderful glimpses of Italy's past.

The Rapallo Montallegro Cable Car is a century-old transportation method that takes visitors from Piazza Solari to the Sanctuary of Montallegro, situated in the oak-shaded hills. The seven-minute journey offers stunning views over the Gulf of Tigullio and terracotta rooftops. At the top, visitors can explore the large Sanctuary of Montallegro, built in 1558 to commemorate a miraculous event.
A great way to get up the mountain. Superb views from the top and a couple of restaurants. One was full but it was a Bank Holiday. We walked back down, which was tough on the legs

This funicular was recommended by the receptionist in our hotel in Santa Margherita which is only a short bus or train ride from Rapallo. It is a few streets behind the train and bus stations and runs every 30 minutes. Maybe closed between 12.30and 14.30. The view on the way up and down is fantastic and quite high. There is a church to visit. There is also a cafe and 2 restaurants of which one closes at 2.30 and there is a walk to get up it. This is worth a visit just for the ride.

A peaceful and beautiful place to say a prayer. The church is quiet and full of history—really special to visit. Keep in mind: cars stop running from 12:30 to 2:30, so plan your trip around that. Behind the church, there’s a nice shady area with trees—perfect for resting and staying cool on a hot day.

Go for the expansive views and access to the Sentiero del Rio Tuia mountain hiking trail behind the church. The trail is an ancient footpath through a beautiful old growth forest to villages far south of Rapallo. This experience is shaded, cool and serene compared to the tourist congested sea side trails of Cinque Terre. The begining of the trail is paved, it soon becomes rustic so wear hiking shoes or something similar as the surface varies, nonetheless it is an easy hike. Near the church there are two restaurants, each with stunning views of the bay, Portofino and the sea beyond. The church is counter reformation pasticche, though it possess a beautiful fascade, setting and is place of true devotion.

What a wonderful world. Italy has many beautiful surprises and this is one. A nice and atypical park with many many great places. The path is well marked and there is a lot of picnic area with tables and views. Sadly there is two drawbacks. The first one is the map indicated on every main signals in the park, indeed the satellite view isn't accurate enough. Secondly there is no place to bivouac. I know there is a shelter but a national park which is close to nature must have a dedicated place to campers. Globally if you have a detour to do to see this park, do it.
