Praia do Jacaré, located in Cabedelo near Joao Pessoa, is a low-key beach known for its boat docks and esplanade lined with restaurants and bars. The highlight of this beach is the daily sunset celebration accompanied by live music, featuring the famous saxophonist Jurandy do Sax performing Bolero by Ravel. This unique experience has made Praia do Jacaré a popular destination for visitors seeking a magical and romantic sunset setting.
Beautiful little area. There is no beach per se, however, the little area is very clean, new with tons of shops and space to watch the sunset or shop. It is a very recommendable spot to come while in João Pessoa for the souvenir possibilities and to see the area/music/sunset.
Miguel S — Google review
Most popular sunset in Brazil. 🌅 However, if you want more beautiful ones, try Barra Grande, Bahia, or the dunes of Lençois Maranhenses. What’s special here is that the music is nice; also there are free bathrooms. Other than that it’s pretty crowded.
Alexandra K — Google review
Nice touristic spot to see the sunset. It's basically a street following the river with bunch of small stores to buy souvenirs and food. You can park your car for free at the public designated area, but you will have an army of people trying to make your park before on their area for 5 reais. That's not a lot to pay, but if you don't want to, ignore them and park at the end on the left.
Sarah Z — Google review
This place is really beautiful and charming Come by the sun set and you will by able to hear Ravel's Bolero The sound and the sight comes together and make it a magic place There are many shopping and eating There are bars and restaurants You can go on the boat to see the sun set

Very nice, but simple. Lots of shops with neat tourist items and some restaurants. Running the gauntlet of people trying to "sell" a parking space is annoying. Of course, Bolero at sunset is the highlight.

The hotel features 85 well-appointed apartments across various categories, including options with balconies and sea views. Guests can enjoy complimentary amenities such as breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking, along with access to an outdoor pool, restaurant, and bar on-site.
Lovely staff. Great location (near ice cream stores, restaurants, hot dog stands, coconut water stands), has a pool. Agulhas are awesome!

I arrived to check in, and I left immediately to another hotel after I saw the room. I don't know what to say other than "TERRIBLE" room. Unprofessional, rude staff that lack the basic knowledge of how to service guest. This is not even one star hotel. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. Take my advice and stay away from this hotel.
Tahseen A — Google review
There are not many hotels in the immediate area, and I find myself needing to stay in this neighborhood occasionally, but had never tried Bessa Beach Hotel before, so I thought I’d give them a try. My first impression was that I didn’t find the employees very helpful. When we parked in front of the hotel and took our bags out of the car, the bellman asked “do you want help bringing those into the hotel?” I knew that there wasn’t a chance that he'd be bringing my bags up to the room, and I was right. Later, when coming back to the hotel after dinner, we greeted the desk clerk with a “good evening”, but he couldn't be bothered to reply—I guess we disturbed his nap. The hotel elevator had an overwhelming odor of mold, probably from guests using the elevator directly after the swimming pool. Our room was not much better: there were no hangers in what passed for a closet and the bathroom was very small and uncomfortable. The bed had only 2 of the flimsiest pillows I've seen in a long while. We called the front desk to see if they could send up 2 more. We waited for a while, but finally gave up and went out. When we returned, we called the front desk again, and with a new shift on duty, it was an easy task (as it should've been the first time we asked). The bed was so uncomfortable that I hardly slept at all. When I moved the pillow, I discovered that there was an electrical outlet behind the pillow on the headboard. I don’t know what the building code is, but I’m pretty sure that an outlet behind a pillow would not b on the “good idea” list. I have never stayed in a hotel that didn’t have a room safe, until I stayed here. Overall, I won’t be staying here again, and I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone that I like.
Edward D — Google review
I've noted a lack of recepniotists to tell us where in the hotel was the event and more info about it. After searching for a while in the hotel we finally found a guy from room service that gave us directions.

(Translated by Google) I believe that every good travel experience begins with choosing the right place to stay. And, unfortunately, we made a mistake in this regard. João Pessoa is an incredible city — beautiful, welcoming, and full of polite and helpful people. However, our stay at the Tambaú Beach Hotel left much to be desired. The location is excellent, super close to everything, but the hotel falls short in several aspects, especially in the cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms. The walls had mold — and, from what I've seen in other comments here on Google, it wasn't an isolated problem. A real nightmare for anyone with allergies! We booked some tours with Luck Turismo, which is a partner of the hotel and has a permanent space in the reception area to sell packages. One of the tours left at 6:45 am, and since breakfast is only served from 6:30 am, I tried to talk to the reception to see if it would be possible to arrive 10 minutes earlier or if they could prepare a snack for us to take with us. In other hotels I've stayed in, this has always been resolved willingly — after all, we are in a tourist city. But, to my surprise, the response was curt and abrupt: “There’s nothing we can do, can’t you have coffee in 15 minutes? That’s all the time you have.” No willingness to help, not even an attempt at a solution. As a result, I gulped down my food so as not to miss the tour. Another day, I ordered a tapioca for breakfast (which is made to order) and, quite rudely, the employee informed me that it would be the last one—at 7:20 am, with several guests still arriving to eat! I waited more than 15 minutes and, when I asked again, I was told they wouldn't be making any more tapioca that day. I could have enjoyed my breakfast normally, but I ended up wasting time waiting for something that never came. I also had an unpleasant experience when requesting a hairdryer at reception. The attendant, wearing headphones, showed complete unwillingness—he huffed, stood up, and handed over the item visibly annoyed, as if he were doing me a favor. In short, there are many accommodation options in João Pessoa, and I would certainly choose a different one on a future visit. The Tambaú Beach Hotel presents itself as a 3-star hotel, but honestly, it doesn't even come close to deserving one. (Original) Acredito que toda boa experiência de viagem começa pela escolha do local onde ficar. E, infelizmente, nesse ponto, nós erramos. João Pessoa é uma cidade incrível — linda, acolhedora e cheia de pessoas educadas e solícitas. Porém, nossa hospedagem no Tambaú Beach Hotel deixou bastante a desejar.

Nice beach, but apparently the water is not so clean because the sewage system is directly dumping contaminated water in it. This is especially not pleasant during high tide and is also not very healthy. The beach is beautiful with many stands along the way of the beach.
F. N — Google review
Cabo Branco and Tambaú are among the best beaches in the Northeast. No, not the prettiest, but for a place to just enjoy the beach, they are hard to beat. Relatively safe water, not too rough. Many quiosques offer food and drinks. For more youthful excitement, go North to the Intermares Beach where you will often find surfers. Thus, it is windier and rougher, but there is much more boating activity to watch.

Cabo Branco Beach is possibly the best beach in the city, mostly because of the infrastructure in the area: there are many hotels, beach bars, restaurants of all types (from pizza joints to fine dining establishments); you can rent bicycles to ride on the dedicated bike path that runs all along the coast of Joao Pessoa to Cabedelo. If you are a sun worshipper, you can rent a beach chair and an umbrella and sit on the golden sand, looking at the beautiful turquoise water that’s always warm. Cabo Branco Beach is flanked by 2 other beaches: Tambaú Beach and Seixas Beach which is where the easternmost point of the Americas is located. There are a lot of reasons to visit this beach and I highly recommend you come.

It's a super important spot, the very oriental point of the American continent and unfortunately its kind of abandoned. There's a park with some very tourist shop... nothing special. I think local government should take care of that important spot of the continent.

Classic example of big Brazilian public work. Once the big investment is done (the propina ends and a big opening celebration), then starve the project for maintenance. It is not hopeless yet, but nearly nothing was open or in good condition. Hurrah! There were two maintenance workers. The observation deck was open and that's about it. I hear it used to be great.

Praia de Carapibus is a stunning beach located in Jacuma, Paraiba. It offers a relaxed oceanfront hotel with free breakfast, a casual restaurant, and two outdoor pools nearby. The beach is known for its amazing view and shallow waters, making it perfect for kids. However, due to the presence of stones, swimming is not recommended. The area can be difficult to access by vehicle and becomes slippery during rain.
Stunning Beach. It's worth to stop by. Due to the presence of stones is not recommended for bathing. The vehicle access is difficult and is not recommended in case of rain, it becomes very slippery. Local people were very helpful. *****

Tabatinga Residence offers warm suites with private balconies, providing a relaxed atmosphere for guests. The hotel features an outdoor pool, a gym, and dining options. The rooms are comfortable and include sea views, with apartment-style layouts featuring a room, kitchenette, and bathroom. While the hotel lacks beach chairs directly on the shore, it compensates with an on-site restaurant where guests can enjoy meals.
I stayed in room 221, with sea view. It is an apartment with a room, a little kitchen and bathroom. The room is very comfortable and the hotel has a good structure, but chairs are inside the hotel and not on the Beach. There is a restaurant there where you can have meals. The breakfast is not included when you reserve the room, but you can have it in that restaurant. The Beach is awesome.

Best location in Tabatinga beach (IMO one of the best ones in Litoral Sul), underground parking is a plus, good choice if you look a peaceful, quiet and not crowded place No beach service, breakfast served at room and usually cold, restaurant is just fine.

Worth visiting, but slightly overrated if you really want the beach scene. Coqueirinho Is better as a beach with many more food options. Tambaba is famed for it's nudist section, which is easy to avoid if you wish. Go, take pictures, and then move on to a better beach. The scenery is unique to most local beaches.

Sights & Landmarks
Oficina Ceramica Francisco Brennand is a museum and workshop dedicated to the renowned Brazilian plastic artist, Francisco Brennand. The site was originally an old family pottery that the artist transformed into a temple of art, showcasing his own works since 1971. Visitors can explore nearly 2,000 pieces including ceramics, sculptures, and paintings primarily centered around themes like sexuality.
The place is amazing, the amount of incredible art pieces is astonishing. Entry fee 50R.
Sindulyi S — Google review
One of the most remarkable and interesting art galleries we have ever visited. Francisco Brennand must have been a weird, obsessive, wildly creative guy to conceive such an ambitious and extensive display of his work. The ceramic sculptures are creative and bizarre, mostly monochromatic and very imaginative. There are elements of Picasso, and Geiger. Some are quite creepy, some are strangely erotic. Even if you are not an art lover you will be blown away.

The place is nice, but it’s lacking a guided tour or posters with explanations. You feel lost inside, not knowing where to start or what’s the story of the place. It’s also very expensive to get in, 60 BRL. The coffee shop could have decent coffee

Esse é um museu essencial para quem gosta do Brennand ou de arte moderna. Um lugar limpo, tranquilo, e muito relaxante de visitar. This is a must-visit place in Recife if you like modern, daring art. It does contain quite a bit of phallic imagery, but a in abstract (it is the style of the artist). It's a beautiful indoor and outdoor museum. Very clean, and relaxing.

Specialty Museums
Centro Cultural Cais do Sertão is a modern museum located in Recife Antigo, serving as a celebration of the music of singer-composer Luiz Gonzaga and the culture of Northeastern Brazil. The museum, which was once old port warehouses, pays tribute to the stories of the Brazilian people. It offers an interactive experience about the Sertao and Luiz Gonzaga, making it one of the most beautiful cultural centers in South America.
I was alarmed that the building used to be an old disabled warehouse: it is completely beautiful! It's walking distance from the Marco Zero square and a nice place to bring children. They have all sorts of art installations (paintings, scenarios, sculptures, music, videos, etc) and interactive games to honor the people of Sertão Nordestino, specially in Pernambuco. There is also a tribute to Luiz Gonzaga, a famous Brazilian forró (and other genres) singer. A lot of volunteers work there and I think it's awesome to value your own culture. There is also a space for events if need to book one.
Graziella B — Google review
Nice and lovely museum. For Brazilian standards it is a very good museum. The collection is nice and it is nice you can try the different instruments of forro. This improves the understanding of the music significant and I liked it a lot, the music guy was explaining everything and even could speak English very well.
F. N — Google review
I went here years ago when it had just opened and it was GREAT. Now, years later, the place is falling apart. Literally half of the museum is ‘under maintenance’. The whole upper floor is closed, several exhibits are gone and the floor is full of holes. Very sad. Recife and Pernambuco, if you are proud of your culture and heritage (and you should be), invest in this museum and make it great again. Do it for Luiz!
Vj V — Google review
Beautiful small museum, huge tribute to ‘sertão’, to being Nordestino, being Brazilian. Poetry, music and inspiration is everywhere. For free.
Ana — Google review
This place was incredible, however multiple pieces were missing or under maintenance which made my experience a bit unpleasant. I still learned a lot about the "sertão", Pernambuco's country side affected by drought and their difficult life. I hope the maintenance ends soon so we can have access to the other parts of the museum.
Stella ( — Google review
It is a very interesting cultural space, particularly for Brazilians. It tells the story of Luiz Gonzaga, a famous 20th century singer and musician who took regional music to national and international audiences. Some of the audiovisual equipment is not working properly, but it is worth a visit. There is a small entrance fee.
Carlos Q — Google review
Nice experience, brings good knowledge and understanding with the visit.
Pedro R — Google review
There is no way this place is 4,7 stars. One might say it does a greet job of reflecting Recife and Pernambuco’s perpetually broken nature, as most exhibits were broken despite its relative newness. Exhibits were either too wordy and detailed or too broad and disconnected. attractive in look but lacking substance and a rip off at any price

it's a small museum about Frevo, there's nothing special, first time I went there the 3rd floor was closed, but they opened it the last time I went. the entrance is 10 reais and the 3rd floor has a beautiful view and it's good for pictures, they tried to make a room for pictures on the 1st floor but the light isn't good so it's not really good for taking pictures.

Sooo beautiful and colorful and the view is amazing. I really enjoyed. 🤍❤️
Vitor D — Google review
It's a small museum on the Frevo tradition, a dance. You will find lots of information on the emergence of the musical genre in the form of words written on the walls and the glass. If you don't mind reading and have a decent understanding of Portuguese, I definitely recommend walking in here. For the more audio-visual people, there are some spaces with videos for you to watch on favela culture. Moreover, there's plenty of old carnival banners for you to look at. For the price of 10 Reais this place is definitely worth it.

Must see in Recife! It's like a journey through history thanks to music, and everything has English translation!

Less writing, more dancing, please. I visited the museum about Frevo in Recife and I still don't know what Frevo music sounds like and what the dancing looks like. I went in rooms with lots and lots of writing on the walls. There are some pictures, and a few artifacts. These exhibits told us that this is a profound Perambucano cultural heritage, and it moves people deeply and is a part of the roots of the region. But it didn't show that. But there was not one single video or demonstration or anything showing what the actual dance looked like, and no place that I found that played the music. A lot of photos, which is good, but for a museum about dancing?

Don’t use the guide tour, they are scammers! Old town feels like being abandoned with lots of homeless. Don’t feel very secure to walk around. Don’t use any guide tour! They said one hour walk tour, 50 BRL per person. During the tour, there was very little introduction and walking very fast to rush us, took us to shops so they get commission fee, but we actually don’t buy anything. And after finish, they asked 50% more, and insisted cash!!! We don’t want to risk our security since they are a bunch of guides around us and push us to pay! They are the scammers!

Very nice. Close to historic center called Recife Antigo, which is all very nice for a walk and get to know regional food, history, and watch nice live perfomances. Just be careful with your cell and purse 😬

From the moment I stepped into the hotel lobby, I felt welcomed. The check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. My room was clean, quiet, and equipped with all the essentials. The complimentary breakfast offered a good variety, making mornings easy and enjoyable.

Per se it's just a little spot on the floor, but the area around is very nice. You'll find a few nice bars and unexpensive restaurants around, with some local experiences to know the carnival culture better. Nothing special but worth taking a look.

Nice and safe place to walk. Even I might saw people with * not so friendly" faces. Also that day there was police's every were.

R$10 parking right there. A few museums nearby and one that had interesting realistic art including a replica of the Mona Lisa and faces to full body realistic statues. Can't forget the Recife sign is here!!! Photo op

Casa da Cultura de Pernambuco is a vibrant cultural center in Recife, offering local crafts, cultural performances, and a rich historical experience. The building was originally a prison but has been transformed into a hub of art and culture with 150 craft shops. Visitors can explore the three cell galleries interconnected by steep staircases, each housing diverse cultural offerings.
Former prison converted into a crafts market. Lots of tourist trinkets and artisanal items for sale. Each cell has been converted into a small store. Free entry. Cell #106 has been preserved as it was, with prisoners' carvings still on the walls.

Great place for souvenirs and local art. It is an old prison and each store is in one cell. Most stores sell items that you can find in other cells as well but some have exclusive items. A few vendors get a bit too pushy to get us inside their stores and it can get very warm inside the building too, but other than that it's a great experience.
Stella ( — Google review
A nice tourist spot for handicrafts or even getting a drink or snacks. It was originally a prison and each vendor occupies a prison cell, most of them are beautifully decorated. It doesn’t look big through the entrance it but once you are inside, you will see the long, seem like never ending hallway
Grace L — Google review
Interesting place, but not much to see beside the shops which all sell the same stuff. However, good food stall in one of the side arms

Instituto Ricardo Brennand is a cultural institution located in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. It was established in 2002 by Ricardo de Almeida Coimbra Brennand and is housed within the medieval-style Forte de Sao Joao Batista do Brum. The institute features a military and weaponry museum, an art gallery, extensive parkland with outdoor sculptures, gardens, and a well-stocked library.
Very beautiful museum. So much to see and do. Really enjoyed being there. Went with my family.
JP S — Google review
Have to admit, I was a little underwhelmed by certain parts of Recife, abandoned buildings and evident economic struggle; but not this place, apparently a lot of the money of the town went to whoever built this place. I was legit amazed by the collection of global art and artifacts that Mr. Brennand had accumulated. Huuge tapestries, ivory carved dioramas from asia, bottero sculptures, local art, and enough medieval suits of armor and weapons to hold off a small invading army; all housed in immaculately manicured gardens and enormous brick chapels and halls. If you have it, I appreciate the desire to let everyone else enjoy it also.
Kiantar B — Google review
Simply incredible. Looks like a very European art museum in the middle of North East Brazil, and even though most of the artworks are replicas, it's surely worth visiting. Many expositions are hosted and the permanent collection is very beautiful. Fair price, no wait and absolutely the best art experience in Recife.
ALESSANDRO C — Google review
This is one of my favorite places to visit in Recife. The Brennand collection of weapons is fantastic and they certainly have a vast collection of art. My favorite time to go is during the week when it rains a little because there aren't as many people around so you can have a lot of time to yourself. Great architecture as well. This place is worth your time for sure.
Nephi B — Google review
The architecture is stunning but the gallery displays a lot of replicas and some originals. Most pieces don't have information on who made them or where, nor any historical context. The arms collection os really interesting but could also use some more information. Also, the ticket priced at R$50 makes it more expensive than most Brazilians can afford.
Stella ( — Google review
One of the best and most unique museums in the northeast of Brazil, if not all Brazil. A must-visit if you’re in the northeast! The Dutch tapestries and the history of the Dutch in Brazil is fascinating, as is a vast building filled with thousands of weapons from the last hundred years. Add in the stunning gardens filled with capybara and monkeys strolling around and playing and this truly is a memorable place to spend a few hours. Cafe and restaurant on site too. Entrance is $50 BRL.

Absolutely worth a visit, the collection is amazing 👏

A lovely and somewhat eclectic museum on beautiful grounds. I especially enjoyed the Brazilian section with tapestries and paintings from the Dutch occupation in the 17th century. Well-worth a few hours’ visit.

Terrible, basic and soulless shopping centre built on mangrove coastal forest. Gives off most depressing vibes.

Boa Viagem Beach is a vibrant 7-mile stretch of sandy coastline in Recife, Brazil. The beach offers swimming areas protected by natural reefs, making it safe and enjoyable for visitors. A popular stop on tours combining Recife and Olinda, the beachfront at Boa Viagem is particularly lively on Sundays when locals flock to the shore. The area is known for its dense concentration of parasols and towering high-rise buildings that provide shade as the day progresses.
What a beauty 😍, awesome beach 🏖️ to spend a Quality Sunday. I was there for around 8 hours, you can have drinks, some food items and enjoy the sea views. Ample parking space outside. Wheelchair track is there to access the beach . Can get a taxi to and fro to the city. Of course, the crowd is making it more enjoyable 😃. And Thanks to nature for such a beautiful creation.
Manish K — Google review
Beautiful beach as it has calm and strong waves! Great for kids ! Also known as Piscinas! Lovely walk and reasonable prices to rent seats and umbrella. Average 10 or 15 reas.
Antoine A — Google review
Beautiful! Great beach, and location. Was urged not to swim, as there are sharks(story behind this) so really only went in water at low tide when the reef keeps a pool you can swim in
Todd B — Google review
Nice beach ⛱️🏖️ However, there is only water, sand, big buildings and some palm trees. Nothing special if you like really nice views. But if you like sun, sand and warm water, that's a good place to be.
Diego H — Google review
The high tale is around noon, so the best time to take advantage of the natural pools that are shark safe is the early morning. Once you are in pleamar, huge sections of the beach disappear under the water, but you will still have plenty of areas with a wide strip of sand. If you consume anything, you so not have to pay for the umbrellas and the chairs.
Jose S — Google review
Beautiful beach, however unsafe to swim due to the sharks. There are not a lot of warning signs.
F. N — Google review
I prefered over Porto de Galinhas for a nice long walk where you can have wide shore, uninterrupted by "tourism" and view of the sea and shore without kiosks.
Erna A — Google review
Boa Viagem is an urban beach located in Recife. Unfortunately known for accidents with Sharks, it is a very good beach to spend the day, on the beach out of the water. If you go, go early, as the sun sets early on the beach due to the large buildings that hide the sun from 3 pm onwards.
