Museum
Le Roc des Curiosités Musée & Aquarium in Saint Malo, France is a must-visit attraction that perfectly complements a tour of the corsaire town. Despite its small size, it offers a diverse range of exhibits that captivate visitors of all ages. The museum features an impressive collection of butterfly, bugs, and beetles as well as an array of fish that excite children and adults alike.
Small, but it packs a lot. The kids were surprisingly into the butterfly, “bugs” and beetles collections and excited to try to find all the notable items mentioned in a short, concise museum guide (1 double page of A4). A few number of fish and the kids were excited about that as well - go figure😜🤣🤔 Very nice and large collection of minerals and shells and the creating a from them - astounding really! Actually, more than I expected from this small museum.
Chris J — Google review
Great visit with kids, does not take too long. They receive a sheet with some photographs which they have to look for in the four different exhibits of the Roc design Harmonies. Entrance price is reasonable. Great view over Granville harbour from bar/snack.
Sam C — Google review
Nice views from the top of the cliffs. Shame some of the gun emplacements were not left open. They have all been blocked up
Craig P — Google review
Quite a decent sized aquarium, with plenty of things to see. The main part of the tour actually incorporates a ton of other stuff - sea shell sculptures everywhere, semi precious gem displays and sculptures, insect collections and plenty more. Countless hours must have gone in to this place, definitely worth a visit. It's also close to a free car park and 200m from a decent sized coastal outpost from the war.
A — Google review
Most bizarre experience. Not much of an aquarium, bit well worth a visit! The only negative thing I would say, is that the fish had pollostirine "rocks" in the tanks some of which were being eaten by the fish ☹️
R B — Google review
It's OK, however not very big at all, few fish tanks, a few taxidermy insects, however very good crystals and mineral displays, friendly staff.
Davie L — Google review
Expected a bit more but a nice place to take the kids for an hour or so if it's raining.

The Musée Christian Dior is located in the charming seaside childhood home of the renowned fashion designer. The villa, known as "The Rhumbs," boasts a stunning cliff garden created by Dior's mother. The museum not only pays homage to Dior but also hosts captivating fashion exhibitions. Visitors can explore the beautiful surrounding gardens with breathtaking views and enjoy a delightful tearoom on-site. Additionally, there is a museum store offering unique gifts.
A visit that has been on my list for a long time, and I finally went. Personally, I loved it. The house and gardens were a joy to walk around. All the staff were super friendly. The shop has a small collection but it is not overpriced and the items are just lovely. The coffee shop was the cherry on the cake. Pardon the pun! It is not the biggest place I have visited, but it is up there with the best day trips I have made. The collections change, and I will return.
Pamela — Google review
Very cute museum. There you can learn about Christian Dior childhood and see several iconic peaces made by him. The staff is super friendly and efficient. The gardens are super well maintained and beautiful.
Luis G — Google review
Wonderful house with a stunning garden and view. Sometimes there could’ve been a little more translations in English, but nevertheless it was a great experience. I would advise to buy tickets before, I didn’t have to wait at all while the queue was long. The garden is beautiful with the flowers and plants and of course the view of the sea is stunning. There is an easy way down the sea as well. Can also recommend the little café in the garden.
Miriam H — Google review
Such a Beautiful place to Visit. Highly recommend. Great Free Gardens to walk around and also there are steps down to the beach from the garden. Also enjoyed the house and museum. Great for kids as upstairs in the museum they have a place where children can colour in some dress designs and do puzzles, whilst the adults look around.
John C — Google review
Beautiful grounds but overall a disappointing experience. The house inside had been so altered to take the displays you get little feel for what it was like. The were a lot of designs by people under the Dior name but the was little about Christian Dior and his history and development. Only one toilet so long queues
Bob L — Google review
Very interesting experience with the family on our time spent to learn about the birth place of one of the most influencing French fashion designers of the 20th century, Christian Dior. It is recommended to book. The earlier, the merrier! You may be lucky, and arrive without booking, but you will likely wait for a bit as the house can only accept a maximum of 50 visitors at the time. So make sure you stay hydrated and an umbrella may be useful in case of rain or blazing sun conditions. The design of the inside of the museum and the garden were found up to our expectations, very refined and sparkling. Just a bit of a pity, that some of the rooms are kept in the dark, which makes it sometimes hard to read notes on the walls. The visit is not suitable for people who cannot go up and down stairs. The toilets area is kept outside the museum. It may need a bit more signs for directions. But against all expectations, toilets were found very dirty and neglected (no toilet paper found in the ladies room). Except these things, it was a rather good visit.
Julien J — Google review
Interesting Musuem lots of history well displayed. And you are able to design your own dress and leave on the wall. Gardens are very relaxing. A must visit.
Craig B — Google review
Museum closed for winter but garden remains open. Wonderfully peaceful and great views over to Channel Islands. Steps up from beach will sharpen your appetite. 😀

Château de Fougères

Mentioned on

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Historical landmark
Château de Fougères is a 12th-century military fortress situated on an outcrop, offering historical tours and interactive activities for kids. Built strategically on a high rock above the River Nancon, it served as a defense stronghold for the surrounding lands. The castle was initially constructed of wood, destroyed in 1166, and later rebuilt with stone. Visitors can explore the well-preserved castle and its medieval quarter, including Place du Marchix and St Leonards church with breathtaking views.
A truly staggering Chateau that just keeps going. I think it would take half a day to get around it all. The museum is in one of the towers and worth a visit. If you just want a look around there is half a kilometre of ramparts with great views and a waterwheel building with four working waterwheels.
Ewan B — Google review
An amazing place to visit. Not expensive and dominates the town and scenery. The whole town is a testament to the history of the region. There are a lot of steps if you want to walk up the towers and along the ramparts - with no alternative. It is in exceptional condition and there were free audio guides. A lot of information boards and magnificent views of the town and surrounding areas.
Stephen B — Google review
Amazing castle! Such a large footprint! The castle is in a great preserved state, i.e. it is not fully restored, but rather a mix of ruins and restored areas. The place it holds in the city is impressive and tied to an important part of the History of Bretagne. ❤️
Alexis D — Google review
Wonderful little town, feels like 2 towns with the castle unusually at the bottom of the hill and the town at the top.loads of old buildings and churches. Really well kept with nice bars and restaurants. Recommend a visit here
Ian J — Google review
Another great place to visit with lots to see. There is an abundance of restaurants located just outside the chateau walls. The town itself is very pretty with shopping and restaurants. Parking was easy and free.
Marie P — Google review
When thinking about this trip, we decided to stop off at more towns and villages, as we miss so much when we rush down to the Mediterranean. This medieval village certainly did not disappoint. The castle and moat jump right out of the pages of history books. The quaint little buildings, the high up church, half timbered houses, and of course the splattering of bars and restaurants. The municipal motorhome parking area soon fills up, so don't arrive too late in the day. €6.50 gets you 24 hours, which is great value. We're so glad that we stopped off here.
Simon B — Google review
Absolutely incredible experience, well worth the visit; prepare to spend several hours here
Stephanie F — Google review
The most stunning castle I have ever visited! Well worth the €10 entry fee, which also includes an audio device to hang around your neck that will give you indepth info about the castle at various points during your visit. Just be aware there are no dogs allowed anywhere inside the grounds, so leave your best friend at home 🙂

Public Garden is a beautiful and well-maintained park that offers stunning panoramic views of the Chateau de Fougeres and the surrounding countryside. The garden features tidy pathways, various floral arrangements, sculptures, and art pieces. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful escape from the city in this tranquil setting. While exploring the park, guests can admire a stream, gazebo, and lush flowers. However, it's important to note that dogs are not allowed in the garden even if they are on a leash.
One of the prettiest parks you can visit. A little stream, gazebo, beautiful flowers, sculptures and a view of the castle. I highly recommend a visit. Unfortunately you can't bring your dog even if they are on leash.

A beautiful public garden (no entry fee) with great views of the countryside and a panoramic view of the chateau. The garden itself is very tidy, well-laid out with a variety of floral displays, statues and art pieces. A very calm and quiet escape from the city. Highly recommended.

Burolic. If you are adventurous enough, you should try the toilet which is hidden in the bushes near the municipal building. You will have a memorable experience! This and the unique setting make French traveling interesting.

Coutances Botanical Garden

Gardens
Coutances Botanical Garden is a delightful and imaginative park that features different themes each year, such as the recent "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme. The garden offers a riot of colors even in late September and provides peace and solitude for visitors to enjoy. It's well-maintained, with beautiful displays of flowers and bushes set in lush green surroundings. The layout is well-done, making it a must-visit when in Coutances.
A free to experience public garden. Beautifully presented DDay commemoration all in flowers and plants.
Mark — Google review
Nice free gardens that are worth visiting. We went on a wet day and the colours were still vibrant.
Steve — Google review
These gardens are beautifully kept and there are many imaginative displays and specimens. We have visited many times over the last 25 years. On this occasion we were put off taking our under 2 grandson to the children's area as it had been commandeered by teenagers. Whilst we could have tried asking them to leave we didn't feel up to a confrontation and left them to it.
Sam J — Google review
At 74 and a lover of Gardens and Parks, Coutances Jardin must rank amongst my all time favourites. So delightfully intimate and imaginative, the garden designers take a theme each year and create amazing storyboards from flower beds.... A must visit (the town and Cathedral are lovely too)
James O — Google review
Late September and the gardens were still a riot of colour. If only our own garden could exhibit such beautiful displays. We spent about an hour here in the peace and solitude. Lovely place.
Ian H — Google review
Really nice garden in this very nice, historical city. Really a delight to have this gardens in the middle of the city.

Coutances Cathedral is a stunning medieval church that showcases remarkable Gothic art and architectural styles. The 13th-century Notre-Dame cathedral features striking stained-glass windows, spires, and a magnificent tower. This granite building boasts surprising height and an unusual galleried central tower with fan vault supports. Visitors can admire the original ancient stained and painted glass, as well as religious paintings that add to the atmosphere.
A beautiful cathedral in a beautiful town. The Cathedral is free to enter and you will see lots of beautiful architecture and art. When we visited someone was playing the organ which added to the ambiance. Worth a quick visit when visiting Coutances.
Laurence B — Google review
Beautiful Cathedral and a little market on the square in front. Le Jardin des Plants very pretty and colourful. Lovely little shops but were closed because is the 1st of May.
Arminda G — Google review
Beautiful cathedral with lots of chapels to stop off in and wonderful stained glass windows. They also had some mini exhibitions dotted along. Free to enter and a lovely atmosphere.
Adam T — Google review
A magnificent cathedral with 2 spires and a large, ornate central tower. Many beautiful stained glass windows in a variety of styles and also terrific murals and painted columns and walls (see my photos attached). I also highly recommend reading through the website listed as it is very informative and well-presented.
Alan P — Google review
Loved the crossing piece, just like Ely cathedral.
Simon M — Google review
An astonishing granite building of surprising height. Started in the C11 and reconstructed in in the C12 in Gothic style. It has an unusual galleried central tower with fan vault supports. The ancient stained and painted glass is all original because it survived the allied bombing in June 1944 intact. Many religious paintings add to the atmosphere. A must-see iconic cathedral. Free to get in.

Water & Amusement Parks
Ange Michel is a charming rural center located in Saint Martin de Landelles, France. It offers a wide range of attractions suitable for both adults and children. The park features around 30 different rides, including water slides, a petting zoo, and a 7D cinema. Visitors can enjoy activities such as pony trekking and riding on a colorful land train. The park also boasts an outdoor swimming pool with water slides, tenpin bowling, snack bars, and a museum showcasing vintage cars.
Very nice park for young kids. My daughter just passed 95cm and she can go to most of the rides and she absolutely loves them! She had an amazing time in the park. Reminder: if you go to aqua splash, take spare clothes😂 we were all wet after we did the blue slide.
Clarissa L — Google review
We visited weekday at the end of May. We had a great day with 3 children aged 4, 11 and 13 and they all enjoyed what was on offer. It was fairly quiet the day we visited so didn’t wait in any lengthy cues for anything. The park is kept really tidy with lovely flowers too.
Helen S — Google review
Perfect amusement park for kids above 95 cm (below they don't have much to do). Our 4 and 8 year old girls had a blast! Lots of fun to be had! Food & drink prices inside are very reasonable. Generally clean and well kept. We spent a total of 4.5 hours there include a lunch break. Come early to avoid queues, though even at peak times they were not long.
Amir L — Google review
We have been every summer for the last 3 years and can honestly say it’s been a highlights of our holiday. The staff are young but extremely diligent, friendly and courteous, as poor French speakers they were extremely accommodating. Nice selection of rides suited to a younger demographic but still enough thrill to keep them excited! We really enjoyed our time here and found it excellent value for money, it’s a bit out of the way but well worth the spin! We will be back again next summer!
M P — Google review
Nice park for kids. Not a huge park but there aren't long queues for the rides. You can take you own picnic or buy something at the on site restaurant. Ice creams too.
Rebecca F — Google review
Great place which is fun for all the family. Set in the country side, it is hidden away with a lovely forrest surrounding it. You can touch chicks, rabbits, ducklings and pigs in the farm. Then get a taste for the 7D studio and some hair raising white knuckle attractions. A great day out for all the family! It's recommended to take lunch with you and picnic where you park. There is food inside but of course it is expensive. If it is a lovely day, you can take your swimming costumes as there is a wet play area with water slides! As well as mini golf with some Peacocks next to it. In my opinion, it is better to go later in the afternoon as there are less people with shorter queues. If you are a family with very young children, there is a train that takes you around the parc. You can put folded pushchairs on it too. I hope this helps!
Louise S — Google review
Fabulous, such fun rides and a good variety. The longest we had to wait was for food but it was about 1pm. If you like the faster rides gp to the tornado first we went on our way out (2.30ish) but the que was very long. If you like Gulivers in the UK you will love this place. We got advanced tickets and walked straight in there was a long que to buy at the entrance we arrived 30min after opening.

Zoo de Champrépus is a delightful destination for animal enthusiasts, offering a diverse collection of creatures from farm animals to exotic jungle inhabitants. The zoo features spacious and beautifully landscaped enclosures that provide a comfortable habitat for its residents. Visitors can observe an array of animals, including tigers, lions, giraffes, red pandas, monkeys, meerkats, and lemurs. The zoo's Wild West theme adds an extra element of excitement to the experience.
Coming from the UK, we think this zoo is excellent. The entrance fee was very reasonable, so much parking and a good number of visitors - not so many it feels crowded and stressful (as it would in UK) and not so few it lacks an atmosphere. The food was simple but very good quality and the animals seemed content and well cared for. They all were easily visible and came very close to the glass, the lion even gave us a great Lion King show. The grounds were really pretty and tidy, staff friendly, and it was overall a very pleasant and relaxing visit. I will definitely return and recommend this zoo.
Len — Google review
Great Zoo - one of the best I have ever been to. It actually looks like a botanic garden where someone put some animals... beautiful trees, plants... and great animals. Absolutely worth visiting.
Wojtek S — Google review
Superb zoo with tastefully thought out animal enclosures giving the animals space and activity. Plenty of viewing angles and the use of lots of bamboo screens the animals from each other. There's a decent restaurant doing 2 courses for €18 or a simpler place offering panini and frites.
Neil C — Google review
We all agreed today that this is the best zoo we have ever been to. Beautiful surroundings. Very interesting animals. The animals look extremely well cared for. Very relaxing walk around. Enjoyed feeding the goats their popcorn. Really highly recommended for families or even without children. The plants around the place are also beautifully maintained. If you are in the area, dont miss it.
Sam L — Google review
A zoo that has "human size" (not too big, not too small), easy for kids and accessible for strollers and/or people with disabilities. Pricey but it's a zoo... Gotta to feed the animals!!
Pierre P — Google review
Lovely clean zoo, animals look well cared for. Great for children of all ages.
Kate C — Google review
Lovely little zoo. There are a limited amount of animals but the ones you do see you can get up pretty close to (some obviously behind safety glass - lion, tiger, leopard etc.). The operators of the zoo have made the most of the area to make it as fun as possible with areas where you can get in to and feed goats and donkeys, and there are talks from the zookeepers throughout the day at different enclosures. At some points it felt a little like a mini farm but in some way this added to the charm of the place. The playground is nice and there is a lovely area where you can eat. You can also leave the park and get a stamp to get back in if you need to (just a nice touch if you left something in the car) Overall a great day out and our 2 year old loved it.
Billy S — Google review
We stayed near Caen and were looking for a nice place (in the surroundings) to visit with our younger kids. We found a folder about this zoo in our hotel and decided to go. The parking is large and free, the entrance at a decent price and the staff very friendly. You can see more than 300 animals and more than 65 species in a 10-hectare landscape trail! Some parts allow you to walk between the animals and see them closely. The complex also offers an amazing playground for your kids. The whole visit takes around 4h, but you can obviously stay long. A nice place to stop and visit.

Fonderie de Cloches Cornille Havard

Mentioned on
3 lists
Foundry
Museums
Fonderie de Cloches Cornille Havard has a rich history dating back to the 16th century, with the current foundry established in 1865. The Havard and Cornille families have preserved this ancestral craftsmanship. Visitors can enjoy guided tours in French, English, and German, lasting approximately 30 minutes. The foundry also features a charming shop offering beautifully crafted items, including authentic copper cooking pans.
We received a private tour in English ( only English speakers to show up for the tour slot), and the guide was very good, the tour very informative —not sure what the one star reviewers are complaining about. The price is reasonable, compared with similar tours we’ve taken. The gift shop has beautiful items, most made right at the foundry. Authentic copper cooking pans are not cheap—but there are few more typically French, practical and long lasting souvenirs that you could purchase. The staff were super friendly and helpful—even gave us a great recommendation for a lunch place.
Suzanne K — Google review
Really interesting, lovely staff, would definitely recommend if you are interested in how things work/are made.
Trish M — Google review
Good heritage and craftsmanship centre. Last here 20 years ago and had to revisit as in the area. Guided tour but was not in English so had text card which was ok but you didn't get any history of the place or details what bells they were making. 20 years ago I'm sure we has tour in English as we were told alot more information and I believe they were making a bell for Chile. Text only told us the basics of how they made bells. Even so we had fun ringing the bells in the courtyard and it was good to see the hectic working workshop. Shop had some nice items and souvenirs. Good to see it was still busy. Perhaps we will be back in another 20 years!

This is a real hidden gem. Short but extremely interesting guided tours over the real bell foundry where they talk about all steps of fabricating a bell. They fabricate all sizes - from tiny souvenir bells to giants to be installed on cathedrals - and it seems they can answer almost any question about them. I highly recommend visiting it!

Wished to visit, but sign saying closed until 16 July, due to a fire.

A hidden gem. One of only two working bell foundries in France making bells for big cathedrals (they supplied the new bells for Notre Dame in Paris in 2013 and the Cathedral in St. Malo more recently). We arrived unannounced on a Saturday afternoon and had an English tour for just the three of us within about 15 minutes during which time we played with the bells in the courtyard. It was amazing how beautiful they sounded. The tour was informative and very interesting - seeing the current commissions being worked on. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

This is a worthwhile place to visit. This is a working foundry that makes 100 bells a year some of them quite large. The guided tour is informal and extremely informative about the history and process of the foundry. Well worth the €8.50 entrance fee.

A hidden gem. Easy to get to and only a short walk to the top of the waterfall. Our 2 year old loved it. Huge rocks too and a picnic area at the end of the trail. Steps down are large but manageable.

Good idea for a half day trip. Dormain is a really beautiful town with calm athmosphere. Here is a lot of interesting places, chappel, waterfalls, rocks and churches.

Beautiful little stroll through lush green forest, to a cute little waterfall. Kids loved playing around the top of the waterfall.

Another beautiful waterfall. I remember a poster of this exact same waterfall was in the wall of my childhood room when I was younger. Pleased to be here in reality.

A surprisingly beautiful spot in an otherwise unremarkable town. Kids enjoyed playing in the shallows and walking a fairly steep gorge path overlooking the stream and trees. We visited in autumn and had great fun picking the sweet chestnuts to take home for Christmas.

Totally unexpected treat. Amazing little walk down the side of the waterfall. Bring sensible shoes, the rocks get wet and slippy with some steep drops.

Nice waterfalls. The small falls are nicer than the big one. Both routes are beautiful with small bridges. Nice!!

D-Day Experience

Mentioned on

War museum
Museums
The D-Day Experience museum tells the story of the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944, through exhibits detailing events leading up to the invasion and the historic landing by American paratroopers. The museum also features a flight simulator that allows visitors to experience what it was like to be a parachutist on their way to Normandy.
We have been to many of the D-day museums along the coast, but this was the most informative. I get word blind after reading so many different cations and information in the museums, but this was different. The 3D film is a must see. It explains the whole operation in an understandable way. Also the simulator was great in feeling a flight to the beaches.
Kevin F — Google review
This was one of the highlights of our Normandy visit. The D-Day Experience Museum offers a well-curated and very moving look at the D-Day invasion. The C-47 flight simulator was a fantastic immersive experience that really helped convey what the paratroopers faced. The museum also includes a large collection of uniforms, weapons, artifacts, and personal stories — all presented in a very engaging way. One of the standout elements was the Tom Brokaw–narrated film, which provided an excellent overview of the invasion and the human stories behind it. The museum is located right next to Dead Man’s Corner in Saint-Côme-du-Mont — where a Sherman tank was destroyed in front of the building that served as the HQ for the German Fallschirmjäger Regiment 6 (elite paratroopers). This location adds a powerful layer of historical context to the visit. Highly recommend spending time here — it’s an incredibly well-done museum that brings history to life. #DDayExperienceMuseum #DeadMansCorner #NormandyWWII #DDayHistory #SaintComeDuMont #C47Simulator #NormandyTravel

This is a museum you definitely want to visit when you're in Normandy. We did the film, the simulator, and visited the museum. The film is beautifully made and gives a clear depiction of the actual battles during D-Day and the days that followed. The 3D effect is fun, but not very impressive—3D films are a bit out of fashion in 2025. The simulator is well done but rather short. The museum itself isn’t very innovative, but the whole package is well worth it. We spent about two hours here. There’s also a lot you can buy, such as army clothing and even weapons. However, I do wonder if you’ll get into trouble if you try to take these weapons across the border.
Tim M — Google review
Fantastic! There are many one-of-a-kind historical items on display here. That are attributed to certain veterans, many of which became famous due to the band of Brothers series. The museum does a great job of telling the personal stories of the men who fought and died here. The flight simulator is a must in my opinion however I wish I had skipped the 3d movie and spent that time in the museum. If you’re into ww2 history already the movie probably won’t tell you anything you don’t already know. in my opinion it’s for people who don’t already know about the events that took place in Normandy. You could easily spend a day in this museum. Spoiler, Normandy is full of great museums related to the D-Day landings. that are all failed with World War II artifacts. However, this museum combined with the flight simulator really is an experience, and I would put it at the top of the list.
Shawn S — Google review
A great museum — very detailed, with an excellent selection of gifts. The flight simulator, however, was underwhelming. It might appeal to children, but for adults, it’s quite basic, with simple effects and a very short duration. What stood out, though, was the pre-flight ‘briefing’ experience, which does a good job of making you feel like part of the mission.
Thodoris Z — Google review
If you go here after the Victory Museum you will be disappointed. It's more expensive but less well done. The flight simulator is nice but the exhibition is disappointing. Everything behind glass so hard totale pictures.
Rudi A — Google review
Great day here and exploring Carentan. Movie was 10/10 Simulator 5/10 ( don't expect too much). The Museum, and shop are FAB! I have never seen so much authentic 1944 /1945 gear for sale, amazing!
Darren W — Google review
We couldn't come to Normandy and not learn something about the D-Day landings. The D-Day Experience was nearest to us, a good drive away, and Utah beach not far past it for a visit afterwards. Definitely pre-book to get the 3D cinema and paratrooper plane simulator experiences nicely timed. The museum exhibits will mean all the more if you have seen the film and experienced the simulator first. The centre is US focused as Utah beach was a US force landing. There is lots to read (in English and French), but all personal, meaningful experiences bringing home the tragic horror of the invasion, lots of jackets, but each one represents a life and individual experience of the invasion. The story of Dead Man's Corner is particularly poignant, especially as the house has not changed since the invasion, shows how the location of the museum and the DMC junction was central to the invasion and presents the German perspective in a tasteful way. Makes you want to know the story of each beach landing. A well put together and thought out presentation of a sensitive if very important world event.

(Translated by Google) After carrying out significant work in the town center of Saint-Lô, I note that uncontrolled parking persists, particularly opposite La Mie Câline. As a pedestrian, I frequently have to deal with motorists who park on the sidewalks and ask me to move, even though I am legitimately walking in the space reserved for me. I remind you that article R417-11 of the Highway Code formally prohibits the parking of motorized vehicles on sidewalks, with the exception of motorcycles, motor tricycles and mopeds, but only if this does not interfere with the movement of pedestrians and that this is authorized by signage or local bylaws. In all other cases, this constitutes an offense described as "very annoying", punishable by a fine of €135 (4th class fine). Despite the presence of an A.S.V.P. agent. put in place by the town hall, I find this measure very good but insufficient. Violations continue to occur daily, and disrespectful behavior by motorists endangers the safety of pedestrians, despite parking being available nearby. For a simple wand or a quick passage, some motorists take liberties to the detriment of pedestrian safety. This is becoming difficult to accept, and it would be desirable for measures to be taken more seriously by the town hall to regulate this type of behavior. Compliance with parking rules and pedestrian safety should be a priority.

I then made an appointment on June 21 (1 month later) to validate my request but I had to cancel because I was ultimately not available. So I came today to validate my request (2 months later) because "This confirmation will take place no earlier than one month after receipt of your request" (official public service site), so I was able to leave my month of reflection. However, the person who received me refused to make this confirmation because "the 1 month deadline has passed". I think they don't know what "minimum 1 month" means... So that she finally tells me that I just have to take my birth certificate and go make my request elsewhere: exactly what that I had asked from the start... like the impression of wasting my time... Situated on the historic site of the 1944 D-Day landing, Utah Beach Landing Museum offers a modern and immersive experience with multimedia exhibits that vividly depict the events of World War II. The museum provides a chronological journey through different sections, starting with German defenses and Rommel's role in constructing the Atlantic Wall. From its curved windows, visitors can take in panoramic views of Utah Beach while exploring a diorama featuring a landing craft, trenches, and a field gun.
Very good museum describing Utah beach defensive preparation and local resistance and American landing. Also the challenge to create and original funding for the museum. Well worth a visit to understand this aspect of the war. Didn't find signposting to the general car park clear at all

Great museum! The installations are interesting and varied, while the exhibit itself is done with respect without veering into the "pathetic" or overly heroic. It's well split into topics of the operations and the importance of Utah Beach specifically within Operation Overlord. Thanks again!

As interested as I am in WW11 and the Normandy landings, this was poor for me. The museum wouldn't be a patch on the Airborne Museum in Ste Mere Eglise. That said, it is definitely worth visiting and take in how these brave lads fought and died for what we all have today.

Wish we had more time here, but we were with a tour group from Paris and had time constraints. It’s an awesome museum filled with so much history. Such a solemn place filled with so much sacrifice.

It is a place where sadness and malinchony caused by the heaviness of history strugled me.. but is also a place where man wrote History sacrifying their lives. Be respectful is the minimum visitors can do. The museum itself is very well done, the hangar is the main attraction but also the other rooms are intriguing. This is a must see Museum as all the other museums in the area.

Château de Domfront

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Château de Domfront is a medieval castle with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. It was the site of a significant siege by William the Conqueror in 1051. The current vestiges include the remains of a keep and chapel, offering visitors an intriguing glimpse into its past. Accessible via a newly rebuilt bridge, the castle is situated in a picturesque public park, providing stunning views and a serene atmosphere for exploration or relaxation.
Took a friend from Ohio there today. It had been ages since I'd been there myself and had totally forgotten how amazing the views are from up there . The town is beautiful but the ruins of what was once a massive castle standing there against that 180° view of the valley below is quite breathtaking.
The M — Google review
The Château de Domfront is a fascinating site steeped in medieval history, perched high above the town with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Although now in ruins, the remains of the castle walls, towers, and fortified structures offer a powerful sense of what once stood here. Wandering through the site is both peaceful and inspiring. Information boards provide helpful historical context, and the elevated location makes it a perfect spot for photos and quiet reflection. The surrounding park and walking trails add to the experience, making it a great destination for history lovers, families, or anyone exploring Normandy. As a must-do, be sure to check out the 360° immersive tour online with ImmerTwin.com.. It brings the castle to life in incredible detail and is a fantastic way to appreciate the scale and beauty of the site—even before you arrive.

Really interesting Chateau ruins. The bridge over the road is now rebuilt and open (aug 22) and makes it really easy to visit the castle. Domfront is a fantastic place (see my other review) from the town you literally cross the new foot bridge across the road below and the ruins are there, great views as well from the grounds. There are information boards scattered around which when read make the history of the place really interesting, and as in France there is a public toilet on site.

Second time we have visited and it’s a lovely town with some beautiful old buildings and a lovely ruined castle - all dog friendly.

Domfront is such a beautiful medieval city, its quaint higgledy piggledy houses, streets and bars is charming. The castle is free to visit and is a really calm space to come and explore or to just sit. Watch the swifts flying about and learn how William the conquerer lived here. You can park nearby, something you don't find in the UK!

Immerse yourself in the picturesque countryside of Normandy on a walking tour, where you can savor a delightful picnic at a traditional cider farm. Traverse the serene Aure River path to reach Bayeux, the first French town liberated after D-Day. Marvel at the rugged cliffs and peaceful villages along Normandy's coast, including a poignant stroll along Omaha Beach with a local guide.
We were on a tour of Normandy and the D-Day Landing. Incredible experience with Charles and Bayeux Shuttle Tours. Pointe du Hoc is a reminder to all of what The Greatest Generation was all about.

Historically it's a great place. However, it's let down by the neglect of the area. Most if not all areas are no admittance. Barriers all over the place. The visitors center has no café/restaurant. Nothing for refreshments after a long cycle in the heat. My poor wife was exhausted. That's just my gripe and as I said, Historically very important.

A place worth visiting even as not of the bunkers are accessible. The main one was still open Andean be accede. Great view from the top.

Visited Pointe du Hoc today and was truly moved. The cliffs, the craters, and the preserved bunkers tell a powerful story of courage and sacrifice. A beautifully maintained historic site that offers a deep and humbling experience. Highly recommended for anyone interested in World War II history.

Very disappointing. In the name of eco BS, they have let weeds and bushes grow inside and around the craters. it’s a shame! They have put a fence all around the site, making us follow a path. Impossible to walk around the craters Bunkers are closed. We cannot visualize and feel what the soldiers have been through.
Cathy R — Google review
One of the must places to visit. The only place where there are still visible the shelling drops, the fights are still clearly visible on site I was disappointed that many of the places routes were closed, no access to get on top of the bunkers despite the supporting structures. This is something which has clearly changed recently as there are plenty of pictures available online.
Mika K — Google review
Incredible views and powerful history. The craters and bunkers show the intensity of the battle. A must-see to understand the scale of the D-Day landings.
Serena M — Google review
Pointe du Hoc was a German strongpoint atop a cliff that could easily shell the Allied landing beaches on DDAY and had to be taken. US Army Rangers were assigned to the task and scaled the cliff in broad daylight while under German fire. 77 of them would die and over150 would be wounded. It is located adjacent to Omaha Beach. The place is a grassy moonscape due to the intense shelling. Some shell holes appear to be 30 feet deep or more. There are signs that tell people to have respect as "this is a German war grave, too". Not easily accessible for those with mobility issues.

During my recent travels in France, I had the pleasure of visiting Zoo de Jurques in Normandie, and it was a delightful experience! This well-maintained zoo is divided into two distinct areas: the yellow zone featuring exotic animals and the blue zone showcasing more familiar domesticated species. The paths are wheelchair-friendly, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy a leisurely stroll while observing the animals.
Large zoo containing many different species. There are 2 routes but you have to do them both. Wheelchair friendly paths. Large car park just outside the entrance. Entry fee was 20 Euros, not bad considering the cost of having to feed them all. There are 2 white lions and 3 white tigers(Who like to hide in the bushes). There was 2 brown lions but the male died in June 2024. All the animals have lots of space to roam. Too many photo's to upload here.

We’d not heard of the zoo before but happened to pass the zoo on our way to our accommodation, and decided to visit the next day. It’s by far one of the best zoos we’ve visited and is very good value - especially compared to zoos in the U.K. We were lucky enough to see all the animals, including the Puma hiding. Staff are very friendly too.

The visit to the zoo was quite enjoyable. We spent about three hours here. There are many different animals to see, all of which appeared to be in good health. You can follow two walking routes through the park. There is ample parking available, and the surrounding area is very wooded. The food offerings are limited, but that's not a big issue. There are also demonstrations, though only in French, and not much happened apart from some feeding. All in all, it was a nice experience. The toilets, however, were not of great quality in terms of hygiene.

Yellow you will find the more exotic animals while the blue you will find your more domesticated animal. Both area's are great to wander round and both are easy even if you find it difficult to walk. Plenty of area's to sit and view the different animals. The price is 18.50euros per adult, a family ticket you are looking at 45euros which is for 2 adults and 2 children. Children under 3 go free, there is a cafe where you can get a drink and a snack or you can opted for a full blown meal in the restaurant. While we were there we never saw a zoo keeper, which I don't know is a good or bad thing as the animals all seemed very contented and all were on display. If you are in the area I would highly recommend a visit as you will enjoy your time here.

Military cemetery

The Normandy American Cemetery, situated in Colleville-sur-Mer overlooking Omaha Beach, is a solemn burial ground honoring over 9,000 Americans who lost their lives during the Normandy Landings and subsequent military operations in World War II. The beautifully maintained 172-acre site features a visitor center with films and exhibits, as well as the Wall of the Missing listing 1,557 names. Visitors can pay respects to notable figures like Theodore Roosevelt Jr.
Extraordinary place, absolutely worth a visit. Free parking. Free entrance. 9388 headstones in perfect formation, plus tablets of the 1557 missing. Nice toilets. Quiet and peaceful. Short walking distance to Omaha Beach. Very nice visitor building, with clear and informative and easy to read texts, in French and English. No shops so be sure to bring your own food and water if needed. 3-4 hours would be sufficient to cover the most, except going to the beach.

Such a historical and somber site. I was here 50 some years ago too and the feeling of sacrifice is still as strong as ever. We were blessed with the honor of a wreath presentation on behalf of our group - Team Shelby. It was a short but very significant ceremony that I shall never forget. The French administrators were so welcoming and professional. Not a dry eye as they played the Star Spangled Banner followed by TAPS as the wreath was presented. Interesting note - the water in the reflection pool is dyed black to symbolize the death that occurred in Normandy.

Beautifully kept cemetery. The whole place has so much emotion. It was very busy when we arrived, the car park is huge but it can still be very hard to find a space. Easy access to the beach and bunkers/gun posts from the car park. This is a must visit if you are in the area and interested in the war/D-Day. Overlord museum nearby also worth a visit.

Great place to visit that really instills a sense of honor. When you look at all the grave markers it is really humbling experience. I would recommend a couple of things. 1.Take the time to look at all the maps and information when you first enter near the memorial statue. 2. The reflection pool was beautiful when we went so that is between the information walls and graves 3 I would recommend walking to the right and seeing the views of the water and walking around from that side and looping back

A beautifully kept cemetery and a somber memorial. It is most certainly important to visit to remember all those that fought to give us our freedom today. Must visit if you are in the area and want to remember the sacrifices made during WW2.

A Profoundly Moving Experience at Normandy American Cemetery Visiting the Normandy American Cemetery was an unforgettable and deeply moving experience. Perched above Omaha Beach, this hallowed ground is a poignant tribute to the American soldiers who gave their lives during the D-Day invasion and subsequent battles of World War II. The sight of thousands of white marble crosses and Stars of David, meticulously aligned across the serene landscape, is both humbling and heart-wrenching. The cemetery’s peaceful beauty contrasts starkly with the violent history it commemorates, creating a powerful atmosphere of reflection. The visitor center adds depth to the experience, with its detailed exhibits and personal stories of courage and sacrifice. Walking among the graves, reading the names, and realizing the scale of loss left me with a profound sense of gratitude and reverence. This is more than a historical site—it’s a sacred place that honors the bravery of those who fought for freedom. I highly recommend visiting to pay respects and reflect on the cost of liberty. Bring tissues, and prepare for a deeply emotional journey.

I visited the Normandy American Cemetery in November 2023. Although I had to go through it quickly because it was close to closing time, I was deeply moved by the history and sacrifice of those who fought so bravely in the war. For those wondering where the Niland brothers are buried, their graves are located in Plot F, Row 15. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful — one of them even guided us directly to the site. I highly recommend visiting Omaha Beach and the Overlord Museum before coming to the cemetery. It’s a powerful and emotional experience that brings a deeper understanding of history. Thank you to all Allied soldiers who fought in WWII. Your courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Bayeux is a towering Norman Gothic religious edifice that offers guided tours, including visits to the treasure room and chapter house. The cathedral's courtyard features the famous 'tree of liberation,' illuminated in vibrant colors each night, reminiscent of Niagara Falls. Every other night, a captivating light, sound, and music show is projected onto the tree, showcasing symbols of war and historical events like D-Day.
The first time your eyes see this cathedral, your visual sense will pop. It is such a massive structure in the heart of the City of Bayeux. The stone artisans that constructed this in the 11th century would be proud that their efforts have stood the test of time. I wish I could have ascended the towers. I am sure the views over Bayeux would be unrivaled. See my pictures for interior photos of the Gothic interior.

Magnificent cathedral both inside and out. Has impressive stained glass windows and interesting crypt. My favourite installation is a board running round the outer part of the crypt (mimicking the Bayeux Tapestry) but simply recording history in plain words from Jesus to present day listing significant events, eras and every single Pope with the length of their term ..fascinating

Wonderful cathedral that’s worth a visit. You may even be lucky enough to hear the amazing pipe organ!! During the summer there’s a wonderful and dazzling light show, inspired by the lush, colourful world of Alain Thomas — a master of naïve-primitive painting. Well worth seeing. Selected nights from dusk to midnight.

This ancient church is so amazing. Bayeux is an amazing town and this church at its centerpiece was a marvelous surprise. There was a seasonal night market I found and shopped for some lovely trinkets and delicious local sausages. Then at around 10pm there was amazing light show on the surface of the church. Just an amazing place. I think my next trip to France will be strictly a stay in beautiful Bayeux.

Huge and amazing! Startling and so thankful that this beautiful 13th century architectural marvel survived all the Normandy battles of world war II. Free to enter. No good parking close by except on the street if you are lucky.

This is a beautiful cathedral located in the heart of charming Bayeux, France. Looks stunning on the outside, especially with the background being the countryside small town of Bayeux. You can enter the cathedral for free and tour the inside in under 1 hour. The inside architecture is stunning and beautiful!

Beautiful cathedral with amazing history. From the stained glass above to the floor below, the ancient art and craftsmanship on display is stunning. Make sure to see the free light show projected on the exterior evenings during the summer months.

The Bayeux Tapestry Museum is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, housing a 69-meter long embroidered cloth that depicts the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the Norman conquest of England. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers visitors a glimpse into medieval history through detailed images and symbols.
Nice small museum containing the tapestry. The audio guide is great, it's interesting and not too long. It also makes sure everyone keeps moving at the same speed, which was great. The upstairs area has some more information and some nice miniatures.

I found my visit to the Bayeux Tapestry Museum to be fascinating. The audio tour was engaging. The rest of the Museum is engaging, and visitors learn plenty of history. PLEASE NOTE: tickets can only be purchased at the door; no tickets are sold online. I visited in August, on a Saturday in the late afternoon, and I only had to wait around ten minutes.
Bryan S — Google review
Visiting the Bayeux Museum was an unforgettable experience. The tapestry itself is perhaps the most extraordinary exhibit we have ever seen. The audio guide was excellent and made the story come alive. We felt very lucky to visit on the second-to-last day before the tapestry closed for restoration until 2027.

Nice little museum in Bayeux housing the famous Bayeux tapestry depicting the story of the battle of Hastings 1066.. In fine embroidery detail... Surprisingly how long and how detailed it is.... and definitely worth seeing if in the area.. Entry fee of around €12.. Fyi.. the museum is closing September for refurbishment and the tapestry is coming to London to be displayed Yes worth a visit and certainly take time to explore the town
Mark S — Google review
Great museum to visiting, however it's too crowded. Consider arriving as early as possible in the morning to avoid waiting for hours to enter. Although an audio guide is included, it can't be paused once activated, leading many visitors to rush through viewing a tapestry in about 20 minutes and then leave after. On the other hand, story and details deserve to remain in the main exposition for as long as you want and explore multiple times.
Akim B — Google review
Very detailed audio guide with beautifully explained facts. Beautiful exhibition with ways of life from that times... a definitely worthy experience!
Mihai S — Google review
Big queues if you haven't already got a joint ticket from another of the town's museums. Amazing to see this wonderful art in person. Somewhat spoiled by the man videoing his way along (against the rules!) and the people holding up the line - they could really do with a staff member in the tapestry room to chaperone. Also there was the bonus exhibition of Pixi models, including their rendition of the tapestry. The museum is closed from 1st Sept 2025 for 2 years while a new display space is being built.
Laura G — Google review
Surprisingly good for children. They get their own separate audio guide which keeps it moving, and keeps it interesting. We were out in 30 minutes. The tour could have been longer for adults certainly! The tapestry is incredible, precious, expressive and enlightening. UNESCO listed, as almost 1,000 years old.

Very friendly family business. The model train layout was fascinating. It was an enjoyable trip.
Jeanette G — Google review
The model railway is wonderful - huge, with so much detail - and lots of love has gone into making it. During the visit you have a guided tour session to view the railway, plus the chance to go on a small train around the grounds, and visit the lime kilns. There is a nice cafe and playground on site as well as shop and toilets. As a result we spent more time here than expected and it felt like good value for money.
Helen B — Google review
Perfect spot for children of all ages. The miniature train set up is amazing, built over the last 50 years. The children loved being able to stand on the railing to really see all the detail. A ride on the train was next then some jumping on the inflatable train. Non stop action. We enjoyed delicious afternoon tea as well. Highly recommend a visit.
Jen A — Google review
Family run attraction with excellent model railway layout. Also has limekiln, ride on mini train trip, gardens and onsite cafe.
Colin B — Google review
The sheer size of the set is amazing. It is also interactive and so it is great for kids and adults. The food looks a little expensive, but the quality meets it perfectly. There is a large area next to the restaurant where children can play as well as a large 'bouncy train'. As a family, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Chay J — Google review
Ok but not for model rail enthusiasts. We travelled some distance for this since the advertising suggested a high quality very large layout. I'm sure the flyers exaggerate the size of the layout and what's there is a very simplistic over busy, toy-like layout which you are limited to half an hour to view, much of which is in the dark (pretty lights for sure but too long not seeing much). The layout is a mix of French and German stock and is crammed full static rolling stock and locos as well as traffic jams of lorry's. There plenty of fun features to spot and button activated animations to engage the kids. All in all not terribly realistic but quite fun. The garden railway is also limited to one ride per ticket and isn't all that special. There's not a lot else to see so you could be done in 90 mins without rushing. Fun for kids and reasonably priced but don't travel an hour to see it like we did, expecting a whole days railwaying fun
Mike M — Google review
First of all, the train layout is fantastic. A lot of attention to detail and it looks great. The not so good... Access to the model train building is limited to around 30 mins. You are allowed in as a group and then ushered out half an hour later. The trains only run during this time and you can't stay and watch them. It's a little disappointing when your paying almost €10 to get in per person. The food on site is not good value for money. There are no vegetarian options (even the cheese on toast is pre made off site). It's not cheap and is very basic (assuming they even have the things you might want in stock). The pizza and chips (which is around €10 also), is a mini frozen pizza with around 8 flakes of grated cheese on it. There is a mini train ride which you can also go on once and lasts around 4 minutes. On site, there is a bouncy castle (well, train), the model railway and a mini railway ride to entertain kids... It takes around an hour in total. For a family of 4... We've spent almost €80 here on what I'd probably not want to spend more than €20. The place has potential but just isn't engaging enough for what it actually costs. Would we come again? No. Would we recommend it to others, possibly... But I'd make it clear that the price is far higher than similar attractions considering the amount of time and engagement you have. I wouldn't recommend the food or drink... Even a coffee was €3.80.

Situated in Arromanches-les-Bains, at the heart of the D-Day beaches, this museum offers guided tours and showcases the remarkable construction of Mulberry Harbors.
What an experience!! Great storytelling and tremendous amount of items to see. Leave yourself a bit of time for your visit. You can spend 2 hours here easily.
John S — Google review
This museum is an absolute must-visit. I went in with my fairly basic knowledge of the events of D-Day, and came out with a much better understanding than I had ever expected. The museum is full of projections, models, and artefacts that give clear but still highly detailed accounts of the events before, on, and after D-Day, on all five beaches. I really highly recommend this excellent museum.
Henry R — Google review
Really interesting and informative museum. You can wear a headset and there are information points where you listen to accounts from people who were in Arromanches at the time. It was a very moving experience and the museum overlooks the beach where you can still see parts of the man-made port. Definitely worth a visit for both adults and children. The gift shop is excellent too.

Fascinating museum, well laid out and with a real family interest for me as my grandfather landed here in 1944. The views over the remains of the Mulberry port from the museum only add to the ambiance and feeling of history. The audio guides are very good and helpful to understand the importance of this site.

Updated museum in 2023 detailing the events leading up to D Day and the concept and use of the Mulberry Harbour. Exhibits well presented and good audio guide in many languages. Location in iconic area overlooking Gold beach and the remains of the harbour. Good views from roof terrace . Highly recommended

Never been to old museum so can't compare the two like many seen to do. This was a very interesting place to visit and I learnt some new facts about the harbour design abd construction. Only gripe was listening to an annoying woman talking on her phone - ironically English! Like any museum visit for the true history buff it would be best when quiet 🤫

The whole experience is totally worth the effort to get there. Using local transport as we did. The buses are irregular, you could end up with only half an hour. We had several hours enjoying the exhibition a walk along the front and lunch in a cafe. A local tour could cost 150 euros or more.

Arromanches 360° Circular Cinema is a unique museum experience in Arromanches that takes visitors back to Normandy's 100 Days through a circular, 360-degree cinema. Using nine screens and archival footage from various countries involved in the Allied invasion, the cinema creates an immersive experience, making viewers feel like they are at the heart of the action. The film plays every 30 minutes and offers a powerful portrayal of the historic events.
Loved the Theatre in the Round with such great pics taken of battles in area. And lookout view outside the theater is spectacular. And little art/sculptures of men right there made from washers was quite well done especially the old man sculpture looking at the sculpture of himself as a soldier. The sayings of the veterans there also interesting.
Barbara K — Google review
Nine-screen circular cinema on the hilltop overlooking Arromanches. We went to the last showing of the day, and we’re the only ones there. The film is a collaged, B&W, 20-minute story of the battle for Normandy. It is collated from multiple sources - American, British, French, Canadian, and German. It is 7 Euro entrance fee, and there is paid-for parking on the hilltop nearby, where there are some interesting sculptures, WW2 structures, and great views out to the Mulberry harbours. I was sorry when the film ended; it seemed so short! Note us is LOUD at times, so some discretion for sensitive ears advised!
Stephen A — Google review
Outstanding short film all original footage. It’s impressive to achieve this scale and quality with such old film. This does not shy away from the horror and devastation. The film explains the huge collaboration effort to build a temporary port. It was in use for 10 months and helped the allies win the European war. The film shows victory was never certain - while Paris was being liberated Rouen still burned. The film shows the human cost. Absolutely worth visiting. In just 20 minutes it explains the loss and scars across all of Normandy. It is a worthy commemoration of a generations’ sacrifice.
Emma N — Google review
A very interesting film showing the history of the surrounding area during WW2 and the Normandy landings. Very reasonably priced and the film was very informative. Access into the place was easy, there were no steps to enter, giving those with mobility limitations an easy entrance. It's mostly standing room only but there is some seating towards the back for those who may need it. After the film you walk through the shop with interesting souvenirs. No cafe here but a vending machine is there. You're better off going down into the town to a cafe or place to eat there. Definitely recommend visiting here. Although I paid on the door, in the summer I would imagine it gets busy so you may want to purchase tickets before you go.
Emyr F — Google review
Incredible unbelievable. Not a dry eye after watching this. You feel a sense of pride, bravery, fear and so very grateful for the peace and democracy we all enjoy for us our children and their children.
Richard S — Google review
Full of history from the event of WW2 and if you are visiting Normandy, this is a must visit place. Don't forget to visit the 360 degree cinema.
Amit Y — Google review
I’m not sure who thought up this reverse theater-in-the-round conceit, but hopefully they learned from their mistake and never tried it again. Some of the footage was incredibly powerful, but the editing and lack of context made it terribly disjointed. The only way to make it even more disjointed would be to spread it across 9 screens surrounding the viewer. So that’s what they did. Another serious issue: no air conditioning. We went in during a mild day in August, but when you pack 80 people into an enclosed unvented room, it sure heats up fast. It had to be approaching 27 degrees Celsius in there. And did I mention there’s no (or very limited) seating? I’m surprised only a few people left early. Anyone who knows anything about WWII history would be going “WTH?!” And anyone with no knowledge of history would be going “WTH?!” In short, a bad gimmick that dilutes the sacrifice and heroism of the military and local civilians. One last note: Far from impressing on visitors the horror and tragedy of war, the gift shop seems to very much be celebrating the glory of war.
Jason M — Google review
A real disappointment, uncomfortable because you have to watch while standing leaning on an iron bar, streching your neck, moreover the room was extremely crowded. The documentary shown did not add anything to the basic knowledge on D-day which you can get with any documentary. 360 degrees just means that the same scene is shown at different moments on the screens around you, so you will not miss anything if you just watch in front of you. Not worth the price paid and the wait to go in. Moreover the parking nearby was 2.50 an hour. The hill overlooking the town is nice though, and there are some statues and artwork.

Starting from the 1920s and extending through the Cold War era, it places World War II within its historical context.
Wonderful tour with Mario! Our group of 4 joined up with two others at the Memorial de Caen Museum. Our van was very comfortable with a wonderful driver, whose name sadly escapes me. It was a 5 hour trip, but you need it for this tour. Mario was very engaging and would call each of us by name to keep us on our toes. At each stop, he had an abundance of information and pictures to share. We had plenty of time to explore at each stop. When we arrived at the American cemetery, Mario moved us along so that we did not miss the lowering of the flag. We had a lot of time at the cemetery, which you need to soak in what was lost in order to keep us free. On the ride back to the museum, he continued to keep us engaged. Excellent trip with a superb team. A “must” tour when you’re in Normandy!

L'Abbaye-aux-Hommes, also known as the Abbey of Saint-Etienne, is a remarkable 11th-century Romanesque abbey in Caen, built by William the Conqueror. It was constructed using light yellow Jurassic limestone called Caen stone and is considered a prime example of Romanesque architecture. The abbey now serves as part of the City Hall and is famous for being the burial site of William the Conqueror.
A Majestic Step into History at Abbaye aux Hommes – Caen’s Hidden Gem I visited the Abbaye aux Hommes today, and it completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped into the courtyard, I was struck by the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning architecture. The abbey is beautifully preserved, and its mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles makes every detail worth admiring. Whether you’re interested in medieval history, architecture, or just want a beautiful and serene place to walk through, the Abbaye aux Hommes is a must-visit in Caen. Highly recommended!

We visited this abbey on our way from Étretat to Mont Saint-Michel Castle — it’s definitely a place worth including in your Normandy itinerary. Entrance to the abbey is paid, but access to the church itself is free. The church is located to the right of the main entrance. Parking is convenient — right under the abbey.

One of the must-see sites in Caen is the Abbaye aux Hommes, a former men’s abbey with centuries of history and an example of the blend of Norman Romanesque and early Gothic architectural styles. This abbey, founded in the 11th century, is one of the main attractions of the city of Caen and functions as a parish church. Part of the abbey has been transformed into a museum where visitors can learn about the history and architecture of the complex. The abbey, like several other historic buildings, is part of the campus of the University of Caen, creating a blend of history and modern academic life. The abbey also houses the tomb of William the Conqueror, making it a place of pilgrimage for historians and tourists interested in medieval history.

Come here as early as you can and allow 4 hours for the visit if you want to read every sign. Its absolutely worth it as you learn so so much. You learn about William the Conqueror, about Caen in Dday, about the high school that was once here. You can see the ruins from the bombings in the nearby buildings across the Abbaye. Lots of information provided and difficult to imagine what was once happening here.

Chateau Guillaume-le-Conquérant is a medieval castle with picturesque grounds that offer interactive tours and an annual fair with costumed actors. The charming escape into history features tastefully decorated rooms, blending comfort with a sense of the past. The friendly staff adds a welcoming touch to the experience. Visitors can immerse themselves in the history of William the Conqueror's time using a Histopad device, which transports them back to how the rooms would have looked in his era.
Highly recommend. Excellent attraction. Great value for money. Lovely staff. And you might learn something too! 😉 I went off peak, so not busy, but could be a different story in the height of the tourist season.

While I've been to better castles, the draw here is the impressive interactive elements that really bring the place to life. My son loved it. Great views from the top as well.

The exterior grounds allow dogs, but not inside. The restoration is unique because the castle was besieged so many times so there is concrete, steel and glass instead picking one particular period to restore to. The architecture of the well shaft in the tower is amazing as is the rooftop although I am afraid of heights. Different than other castles, but an interesting take. Walk around to see the castle from different angles, don't worry about getting straight to the entrance.

Chateau telling the story of William the Conquerer from before his birth to after his death Good audio visual displays and tablet features including room by room makeovers off ho they would have looked originally. Good setting with fine views from top of tower A lot of steps to master! Good shop and staff very friendly. You can walk the grounds for free. Would recommend.

Great way to spend the morning. Fantastic views over the surrounding areas. Really good interactive exhibition. A few stairs but nothing scary. Free parking outside. More to visit next time.

Amazing to see but the website said it was open but we could only walk around the inside the castle grounds because the castle inside was closed. A big disappointment travelling so far and not to go inside. Even the museum by town Square was also closed this was on a Monday. We didn't want to waste time waiting so we continued our journey towards Spain.

Best castle I've ever been to!! The castle looks incredible, it's in really good condition and is in an imposing location. The display boards and interactive tour using augmented reality via tablets (which including a little treasure hunt) were absolutely brilliant, an engaging way to learn the history of the castle. I hope other castles can follow a similar approach. I cannot recommend this castle enough it's a must visit!

War museum
Museums
Memorial Pegasus, located in France, is a significant site from World War II. It features the original Benouville Bridge and a replica of the 'Bailey' bridge used during the war. The museum park commemorates the British 6th Airborne Division's capture of Pegasus Bridge during their D-Day mission in 1944. This division's objective was to secure and defend key bridges to impede German forces from launching counterattacks.
Excellent museum, the cost of €9.50 per adult covers you for the 3 museums. Very informative and the tanks and exhibitions are top class. Put side there is an original WW2 glider and the original bridge that stood when D-day started.

A very good museum solely focusing on the taking of the bridge. The museum is not massive, but packed with memorabilia and information. The outside holds the actual bridge, planes, vehicles and information related to the bridge. The entrance fee was cheap. Highly recommend a visit.

What a surprisingly interesting and engaging museum! It may be small, but it’s perfectly formed, and rather than overwhelming you with endless information, the story is broken down into sections that are easy to follow and beautifully presented. The exhibits take you through the narrative in a way that feels poignant, thoughtful, and respectful, while still being very easy to digest. The subject of war is never simple to handle, and it’s all too easy for museums to become either too heavy or, on the other end of the scale, a little dry and uninspiring. What struck me here was how well balanced it is. Even if military history isn’t normally your area of interest (it isn't mine really, but I was travelling with people who wanted to go here), this museum has a way of drawing you in. It doesn’t shy away from the realities of what happened, but it never feels gratuitous, and the result is something that holds your attention from start to finish. There aren’t interactive exhibits in the modern sense - no touch screens or VR, no touchy feely stuff - but honestly, it doesn’t need them. The quality of the storytelling is strong enough that it captures your imagination on its own. If you’re visiting with children who are confident readers and have an interest in history, they’ll find plenty to keep them engaged too. The staff deserve a mention as well. They are bilingual, friendly, and incredibly cheerful, which adds to the welcoming feel of the museum. They clearly care about the story they’re helping to tell, and it makes the whole experience that bit more memorable. All in all, this is a real gem of a museum in the area. It tells such an important part of history with care and clarity, and I’d say it’s a must stop for anyone visiting Normandy. There was plenty of parking although we visited mid week in mid September, and even for camper vans, and don't forget to visit Cafe Gondre a 1 minute drive away to carry on the learning.

Well worth a visit to this museum. A real piece of history and interesting story. Free parking. Entrance ticket 9,50€. Have a wee coffee or beer at the cafe across the bridge. First house in France to be liberated in 1944.

A great memorial with plenty of informative displays with vehicles parked atound the grounds. They also have the original bridge and have also managed to rebuild a glider that was used to get troops into the area. There is plenty of parking close by and some of the memorials are a very short walk away. This was one of the best memorials I visited on my Normandy trip.

A must visit especially for those with an airborne background. A garden holds the original Pegasus bridge and other artifacts. Inside lots of memorabilia from those soldiers who were there. Very interesting.

Pegasus Bridge is a historic road bridge and strategic river crossing that gained fame during the 1944 D-Day landings. It was captured in a daring operation by glider landings, showcasing remarkable precision flying during World War II. The lead glider made a rough landing, but its occupants quickly recovered and confronted the German strongpoint opposite the bridge. This event is considered one of the most impressive examples of precision flying during the war.
