Monastery
Sights & Landmarks
The Hosios Loukas Holy Monastery is a magnificent Byzantine-style religious complex established in the 11th century. It is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and situated between the towns of Distomo and Kyriaki, about 23km southeast of Arahova. The monastery comprises two churches, including the principal church that houses some of Greece's most exceptional frescoes from the Byzantine era. Visitors are expected to dress modestly (no shorts).
We stopped here on the way to Delphi from Athens. This was the most impressive monastery we visited in Greece. The number of the mosaics and beauty was staggering! There is also an adjacent small church on the site by the parking lot and the views of the area are amazing.
Ryan S — Google review
A monastery off the beaten path which we really liked! We took a detour to the monastery on our way back from Arachova to Athens. It is big and beautiful and has a beautiful painted crypt and inside of the church. Well looked after and lost of interesting history. The stables and one or two other buildings did burn down 2-3 years ago and they are restoring it. It does not distract from the great experience and I can highly recommend the place. Lots of parking and we could pay by card.
Jaco R — Google review
A must see. Worth a detour, worth a visit. Meteora is also a must see at a stunning location. This is a stunning monastery at a beautiful place.
TheLaurierstreet — Google review
Stunning view of the mountains, the building itself is beautifully taken care of, it is active so people do go to participate in service but there is plenty of small areas to explore with bits of history information and a small museum room where u need to buy entry tickets. There is a large parking lot higher up from monastery but with the hills and stairs it could be difficult for someone with mobility issues. There are clean toilets for use before you get the entry gate as well
Cathy M — Google review
I drive in from Domvrina. The drive was amazing, Ag Anna was beautiful, all the villages on the way were beautiful and the Monestery is in a unbelievable place. Stunning views. The people there are so nice. I recommend anyone visiting Greece visit here.

Would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. Lots of history and things to see. I think it was 10€ to enter.
Tryon Q — Google review
Gorgeous monastery that everyone should visit. I can't believe how obscure this place is when it's monumental and religious value matches that of Parthenon in its respective hostorical era. The view is wonderful and everyone is so friendly and willing to share facts about Saint Loukas and the monastery itself.

Corinth Canal

Mentioned on
+27 other lists
Canal
Nature & Parks
The Corinth Canal, a stunning feat of engineering completed in 1893, separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece. The canal offers breathtaking views of its sheer rock walls and blue waters, best enjoyed from a sturdy footbridge or on a tour boat. For the adventurous, bungee jumping provides an entirely different perspective. Nearby attractions include the Gulf of Corinth and traditional Greek villages offering local food and wine experiences.
Had an amazing boat ride through the Corinth canal both ways. Only €22 each on Anna 11 cruises. Lasted about an hour or so and went from the quay on the Athens side of the canal. It's incredible how it was dug and dynamited out of the rocks. Very steep sides in places with road and rail bridges spanning it. Well worth doing.
Michael K — Google review
The Corinth Canal is a truly spectacular sight, and it's much more than just a waterway. Standing on the bridge, you get a powerful sense of the history and the immense engineering effort it took to carve this narrow, deep channel through solid rock. The sheer cliffs on either side are breathtaking, and watching a ship navigate this incredibly tight passage is a unique and thrilling experience. It's a must-do for anyone traveling through Greece, offering both a stunning natural view and a fascinating glimpse into human ingenuity.
PyM — Google review
Nice place to stop by! Such a deep and narrow cuts which separates the Peloponnese peninsula from the Greek mainland. With a nice history behind ofcourse. Only the view from the bridge is stunning. I wanted to try bungee jumping here but it was closed 😩 Still, totally worth the visit!

We visited the Corinth Canal and were absolutely amazed by its breathtaking views — it’s a must-see both for its visual impact and historical significance. Standing on the bridge and looking down into the narrow, deep waterway is truly unforgettable. There are several nearby restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy a meal or a drink at relatively reasonable prices. It’s a great spot to take a break, enjoy the scenery, and soak in the atmosphere. For thrill-seekers, there’s also the opportunity to go bungee jumping right over the canal. At around €100 per person, it’s definitely on the pricier side, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that adds a real adrenaline rush to your visit. Parking was easy and the area felt tourist-friendly. I’d highly recommend stopping here if you’re passing through the region — even a short visit is worth it!
Márk B — Google review
The Corinth Canal is a fascinating sight. Typically, tour buses heading to the Peloponnese start there for a rest break and spend a few minutes seeing the canal. The ancient Greeks and Romans dreamed of building a canal here, but lack the technical ability. It was completed in the late 1800s using steam equipment. If you are able, suggest driving to the Diolkos. This was the ancient road that ran across the isthmus, mainly to transfer goods and on rare occasions ships.
Forrest T — Google review
You can't imagine how much I love Corinth canal, it looks unreal. I was many times here and always is amazing. I can stand on the bridge all day long. Don't miss this beauty.
Aleksandra M — Google review
It it really is one of the most beautiful sights in Greece not far away from Athens 1 hour drive. Truly mesmerizing and if you are up for the bungee jumping experience that's another plus

Archaeological Museum of Thebes

Mentioned on

Archaeological museum
Museums
The Archaeological Museum of Thebes offers a comprehensive exploration of the rich history of Thiva, known as ancient Thebes, which played a significant role in Greek civilization from the Bronze Age. The museum features well-curated exhibitions covering various periods including Mycenaean and Byzantine eras. Visitors appreciate the thoughtful layout that guides them through the mythological origins and historical ages. The museum also provides informative videos with tasteful illustrations.
The city where Dionysus and Hercules were born. Thebes is a must-see. It is also the city where Antigone, the first tragedy known in world literature, took place and the city where Oedipus was king but later exiled. It was very exciting to visit the museum of this city, which had great importance in ancient Greece. The lady working at the museum ticket office was very kind. Her asking "Are you under 25?" I think there was a discount for those under 25, but it was too late for us. The museum has a very nice layout, but it is still useful to take a photo of the direction sign at the entrance before entering. There is a great chronology inside. There is also a section dedicated to Antigone. Everything from the Bronze Age to the Ottoman Empire is exhibited very neatly. A neutral style was used as the language of history. Before entering the museum, there is a museum cafe at the end of the corridor on the right side of the door, but it was closed due to the holiday. There are also toilets right across the stairs. It was very clean. Thank you very much for this wonderful experience. 🩷🩷 This might be the most beautiful museum I've visited in Greece.
Dilara C — Google review
It was great to visit and I love the way the organization (by date) helps you understand how art evolved through the years is shorter than it says it is you can easily finished it in 1h
Noelia M — Google review
Very nice and well-maintained museum. Friendly welcome and guided staff who pointed out to us to visit the lower part as well. Without his friendly help we would have certainly missed this. Thanks & too bad this city does not seem so touristy. It is possibly all the fault of Alexander the Great and the final downfall of Thebes: the city was totally destroyed by him in 335 BC.
Steven V — Google review
A rich collection of archaeological findings spanning the history of Beoetia from the paleolithic to the early Ottoman period. All signs and exhibit labels are in Greek and English. We took it slow and read almost everything and consequently spent around 3.5 hours here, but the average person will probably spend ~2 hours here.
Yoav E — Google review
Staff on the gate desk spoke English and appreciated the attempted use of Greek language whilst purchasing tickets (€10 for a standard entrance ticket). Outdoor exhibits are seen first and cover some very early periods of Ancient Greek sculpture, masonry and statue. All exhibits have dual Greek and English text and are detailed, both in the overall topic/ section and for numbered items in display cases - the interior exhibits are separated by era (Iron Age, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine etc) making navigation simplistic. The structure uses primarily flat ground but a wheelchair lift is available for disabled visitors in the one room that is lower than the rest of the buildings layout (this accessibility did not extend to the castle tower on the museum grounds which required visitors to navigate 2 small sets of above average steep metal steps to gain full access). I cannot comment on the onsite Café as it was early in what appeared to be renovations at the visit time. The museum Gift shop, which you walk past/ through when entering the indoor exhibits, stocked some small replicas of assorted busts and jewellery etc. Photography is allowed for non-commercial use (without flash). Overall, a worthy visit for any history nerd, especially in regards to the insights on the mundane through burial items, craftsmanship, changing artistic styles through the eras and shifting political and military policy as Greek land passed between so many hands and invading cultures over its history (there are no interactive exhibits or big fancy weapons racks for children to marvel at however, so be wary of those who have little patience for reading).
Jack S — Google review
Very good museum, 10 euros each, free for children, great for learning all history through the ages, takes about 1 hour to get through
Sarahthebird1 — Google review
One of the best museums I have been to. They are many interesting artifacts from Thebes and the region and they are very well presented and explained in a beautiful building. I really liked her Linear B displays. They really need a better shop and cafe.

Old Evripos Bridge

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The Old Evripos Bridge, also known as Chalkida Old Bridge, is a stunning arched structure that has been connecting the island of Evia to mainland Greece since its construction in 1962. This iconic bridge spans the Euripus Strait and serves as a vibrant hub for both pedestrians and vehicles. A stroll along this picturesque bridge offers breathtaking views of the surrounding waters and is an ideal way to soak in the local atmosphere.
Nice area with top views from the bridge which it's self is worth a visit seeing the water (tides) changing direction, car drivers seem more polite towards pedestrians than in Athens, food wise I found shop's have Athens prices ,
James S — Google review
Small bridge over Europe’s Strait water. Bridge opens up for sailing boats which is popular among locals and tourists. Euripus Strait is a narrow channel of water separating the Greek island of Euboea in the Aegean Sea from Boeotia in mainland Greece. Many popular restaurants are along the water, close to the bridge.
Manoj — Google review
The Chalkida Old Bridge is an absolute gem that is definitely worth a visit! The sunset views with all the lights illuminating the bridge create a magical ambiance. Taking a leisurely walk along the pathwalk surrounded by restaurants and bars adds to the charm of the experience. It was the perfect spot for us to stay and avoid going to Athens for an early flight. If you're looking for a picturesque and convenient location, the Chalkida Old Bridge is a must-visit destination. Don't miss the opportunity to soak in the breathtaking scenery and enjoy a memorable time by the bridge!
Igor K — Google review
The Old Bridge of Chalkida is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city. Built in 1896, it connects the center of Chalkida with northern Evia, crossing over the Euripus Strait. The bridge is famous for its unique mechanism that raises and lowers to allow ships to pass through. It is a historic monument and a popular tourist attraction, offering stunning views of the sea and the city. It is one of the key stops for anyone visiting Chalkida, and the traditional atmosphere around the bridge always leaves an impression.
Loukas M — Google review
The famous bridge of Chalkida and Evia, one of only 2 bridges that connect tge island with the mainland of Greece. This bridge have a long history because of the water under it witg every few hours the flow change sides. Every day (each time in different hour) the bridge is opening and boats are passing
Roy L — Google review
Lovely place for a short trip from Athens. Best fish taverns and best place for walk close to seaside. Calm city. This aerial photo can show you the beauty of this place. This bridge also used long years before for extreme sports.
Adventure S — Google review
Ancient technology but still strong when walking on it and cars passing by, you can feel the noice. And a ship crossing we well all stoped both cars and humans. And you can hear the noice as they left the bridgle, amaizing. And I love the surroundings restaurants bars et cetera.
Brace K — Google review
I'm glad to have seen this old bridge. I walked over this and admired the Island of Evia from the Mainland side. Looking into the sea, the currents are so strong.

Holy Church of Saint Nectarios of Aegina

Greek Orthodox church
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The monastery is a true haven for the Orthodox faithful that go to venerate the relics of Saint Nectarios. A few tips: Dress code: given this is a holy place, shorts are not allowed in the church. But they have a lot of cloth wraps available at the entrance for people to borrow. So no need to worry. Relics: there are three places where they can be found: 1) in the main church to the right of the iconostasis in a little chapel that’s connected to the church. 2) walk up to the top level of the property through the winding ramp. There you’ll find the tomb of Saint Nectarios to the right. In from of which there is a holy water fountain which is free to take for everyone. Bring water bottles! Also, you can visit the saint’s rooms where he lived. Those are located behind the chapel with his tomb. 3) And there is also a tiny church further up from the tomb where there is also the Saint’s hat. Transportation: There’s lots of free parking on the church property past the gate to the left or you can take the local bus. It’s €2. The covered bus station right in from of the church goes to Aegina Port/Town and across the street (there’s no sign but it’s right in from of the restaurant) will take you to Agia Marina. Souvenir shop: found on the top level of the property past the tomb. Lots of little things to buy including empty water bottles in case you forgot to bring your own for the holy water.
Soare H — Google review
The Church of Saint Nectarios in Aegina is a truly miraculous place, filled with grace and peace. You feel close to the divine here – a wonderful spot for those seeking spiritual quiet and heartfelt prayer. It is said that prayers are truly heard in this sacred place. Practical note: the religious shop only accepts cash, not credit cards. The church is easy to reach by bus from Aegina port, and nearby you’ll find plenty of restaurants serving delicious traditional Greek food
Stef — Google review
I didn’t know what to expect for this monastery but it is a really good photo stop. It also got me curious about Saint Nectarios, who I learnt is venerated for many healings, especially of cancer, both during his life and after his death
Clifton P — Google review
Huge church. Amazing interior and obviously a place of pilgrimage for many. The reason being in the name St Nektarios. He is buried here and is known for many healing miracles. There is also the monastery and further relics. Appropriate dress is required. Long trousers for men and shirts. Women long skirts, not shorts, and tops should cover shoulders. No entrance fee but donations welcome, I'm sure.
Ian B — Google review
Whole place is wonderful! The setting is beautiful, the staff are friendly, and the ambiance is calming. Strongly recommend visiting for a peaceful and uplifting experience.
Fil3mon — Google review
This is an awe inspiring church. The floors are designed with tiny tiny ceramic tiles and around the amazing alter are mosaics of sea creatures. Above is the Monastery, with a small church, the actual rooms where Agios Nektarios lived and worked (St. Nektarios) and a guide to fill you in on all the details of his objects, writings and life. In addition there is a small room with the Saint’s tomb where many people feel/receive special closeness to God and even whispers when they put their ear up to the tomb. Skirts and cover update provided as dress code requires respect.
Butterfly G — Google review
A beautiful and breathtaking holy place, the Church and Monastery of Saint Nektarios of Aegina is dedicated to one of the most renowned Greek saints, venerated in both the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Eastern Catholic Churches. This is a must-visit site when in Aegina, accessible by local bus, taxi, or rented scooter/car, with ample parking available nearby. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Be respectful of this active sacred site, as it is frequented by many Greeks seeking the favor of the saint. Up the hill, you can also visit the monastery. Men and women must dress modestly in accordance with the rules. When we visited, the interior was being renovated but remained open for visitors to explore.

The Temple of Aphaia is a significant archaeological site located on the island of Aegina. Built in the 5th century BC, this Doric temple was dedicated to the ancient goddess Aphaia. Positioned on top of a hill, it offers a spectacular view of the surrounding area and is considered one of the most important structures in the Sanctuary of Aphaia.
Beautifully preserved temple in a spectacular setting! It was not crowded at all and we highly recommend visiting. We took the local bus at 2 euro each.

It's a beautiful temple, which I highly recommend visiting to learn about its historical significance. It's one of the three temples in the "Sacred Triangle." Admission is 10 euros and also gives you access to the museum.
Carito A — Google review
Beautifully maintained Temple of the Goddess Aphaia, a mysterious figure local to Aegina and sometimes Crete. Pausanias (2nd c. CE) records that the Aeginetans called Britomartis “Aphaia. The Temple is really well-preserved and maintained. Admission is 10 Euro. Go early in the morning to avoid the buses and crowds. Taxis do go up here.
Yeshe M — Google review
I like to call this island pistachio island. Everywhere you go including the beautiful temple of Aphaia are pistachios. Beautiful views and I would love to go here in the evening to take in the view of Athens. Amazing views.
Sam I — Google review
A must-see if you’re visiting Aegina! The Temple of Aphaia is beautifully preserved and stands on a hill with an absolutely stunning view over the sea and even the mainland on a clear day. It’s quiet, peaceful, and feels very authentic compared to the crowded sites in Athens. Totally worth the 20-minute ride from the main port — it gives a real sense of ancient Greece. And after your visit, don’t miss grabbing a pistachio ice cream from the little shop right next to the site — Aegina’s specialty and the perfect way to end the visit!
Sothy U — Google review
It was okay. Maybe a lot better if we didn't walk a mile straight up to get there. Ruins with a small tourist store. Interesting information tables throughout. Lots of cats roaming around begging for food. Cost $10 euros to explore site. Very nice view from the top. Several tour busses were visiting at the same time as we were there.
Ellen P — Google review
It wasn’t that easy to get here - the ferry and then the taxi. But it’s worth it because of its more than 2.5K history and no need to jostle with other tourists. We got all the photos we wanted. The cats were very friendly once they knew we had cat food
Clifton P — Google review

Nice little museum, have your Google translate handy as the signs are in French and Greek. Some pieces reflect the tender side of ancient culture. 3€ entry fee
M H — Google review
The displays are in Greek and French, so if you speak that language I would give it four stars. While not everything needs to be in English and appreciate that it annoys some people, it is however the lingua franca. The museum is small, with detailed displays and exhibits covering the ancient city. Toilets are available and parking is out front. Handy, for walking over the main road to the ruins
Tom ( — Google review
We visited the museum during the full moon in August 2025 and watched an interesting documentary about the recent discovery of the Temple of Artemis, a joint Swiss–Greek enterprise.
Vasileios K — Google review
Small museum with a few surprising unusual pieces, typical of small town museums in greece. The bronze age collection is particularly interesting. Great potential if the ministry took some interest in modernizing the space.
Angelos V — Google review
The staff is not interested in visitors. They just sell tickets. Few words of introduction would be very useful. Ladies do not help at all despite very few guests. The museum concept is fine. What annoys most, the inscriptions about the exhibits - all of them are only in Greek and French (!). Why?
Krzysztof N — Google review
It's a small museum but an interesting collection very well preserved. Small toys, glass specimens, and local pieces of dish or amphora. The explanations are interesting, well balanced between length and quality.

Fast and comfortable trip that was on time both ways. I removed 2 stars only because I went to the ticket desk in Aegistra and the friendly agent said it was no problem to board an earlier ferry. I repeated myself just to make sure she understood that my ticket time was different and she patiently responded that the QR code would work. The QR code did not work, however, when I boarded and so I was unsure if I would have to buy a new ticket. The agent on the boat said she would take care of it and disappeared never to return. Don’t stress the reviews, reliable, easy to book online, got us there quickly, everyone was kind, just don’t come late and you won’t be stressed. Really grateful and such a more pleasant commute than flying!

Not much to say. Been helped super fast. Got good price and advice. Was also able to leave bags in office for couple of hours while waiting for ferry.

Last boat of the day had a problem so they cancelled with no communication or care for how people get back from Aegina, they said email for refunds, and refused to issue them there. absolutely no duty of care for customers
Tanya — Google review
Riding the ferry to Aegina from Athens was beautiful. The ferry ride was amazing and comfortable. The ride was 40 minutes and $40 round-trip. It was a slow day, it was easy to get tickets. It was a beautiful day on a beautiful ferry.

Flisvos Marina is a prominent marina located in the Athenian Riviera, known for being one of the largest in Greece with a capacity to accommodate over 300 vessels, including luxury yachts and boats. The surrounding area offers an array of restaurants, cafes, and bars that provide stunning views of the Saronic Gulf. Visitors can marvel at luxurious yachts while enjoying exotic cocktails on the waterfront.
Flisvos Marina is a must-visit when in Athens! We had an amazing experience here, starting with a fantastic lunch at Cruiser Restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious, with a great selection of Mediterranean flavors, but what truly made it special was the breathtaking view. From our table, we had a perfect vantage point of the marina, where some of the most luxurious yachts and vessels were docked. The sight of these stunning megayachts lined up against the shimmering blue waters created a truly exclusive and elegant atmosphere. After lunch, we strolled around the marina, soaking in the beauty of the area. The entire space is immaculately maintained, with charming walkways, lush green areas, and a peaceful, high-end vibe. Watching the luxury yachts up close, some of which looked like floating palaces, was a unique experience on its own. Whether you’re visiting Athens for a short trip or a longer stay, Flisvos Marina offers a touch of luxury and tranquility that shouldn’t be missed. It’s the perfect place for a scenic meal, a relaxing walk, or simply to admire some of the most impressive vessels in Greece. Highly recommended!

Lake Marathon

Reservoir
Nature & Parks
Bodies of Water
Tranquil man-made reservoir created in 1929 with a beach, footpaths, benches & birdlife to watch.
Beautiful place, very big and clean lake, beautiful nature, rocks and trees, some churches on rocks...
Svata B — Google review
I had wished to visit this place for many years and, finally, I did. We are all familiar with the Marathon contests all around the world, but, this is the The Place, the origin, from where the Greek soldier Pheidippides, ran to Athens to report victory in the Battle of Marathon; he died of exhaustion after delivering the good news. Today's runners, fortunately, survive, although any Marathon race is extremely demanding. Visit the place with me, you are in no danger, enjoy good food and coffee at the shore of the Marathon Lake (it's an artificial one), wander the picturesque landscape, watch birds and just relax. Have a nice trip!

.. A beautiful place in Attica that many times its forests being burned for land speculation and as a final act of Love for the environment they now plant and deposit 5 kilometers away the garbage of Attica in the this area!!!!5 is for the memory of forests 1 is for all the destruction of the last green zone of Attica all concerned involved..Of course money for these people I more important for the conditions of people living in this area and of course whole Athens....money that's the only word they learned to worship.. Hypocrisy at its best...not only....

Went there to run the great Authentic Greek Classic Marathon. Great views, great scenery and above all, the feelings, running a route over 2 000 year old!
Haris A — Google review
Do NOT use this route. This map leads u to middle of nowhere, on dirt road, you will see valleys with trees burnt, and then dirt road track ended, field of wild flowers and grass filled the area, we had to make a u-turn to get out. DO NOT use this route if you want to visit Lake Marathon. Instead, if you must visit, pick the Lake Marathon panoramic view on Google map. It’s over-rated.
Diana B — Google review
from a tourist perspective, there is nothing here... walking routes from the dam are blocked off and the one restaurant that used to be here is abandoned.

Lake Vouliagmeni, located in the Athenian Riviera, is a scenic natural wonder with thermal mineral water. It is part of the National NATURA 2000 list and home to unique organisms like the Garra Rufa fish known for skin exfoliation. The lake's crystal-clear waters are fed by underground hot springs, offering a constant temperature year-round. Visitors can swim and enjoy the beautiful surrounding scenery.
We had an amazing experience here! The doctor fish were incredibly therapeutic, they took a little bit to get used to but once I did it was so fun. It was really an awesome unique experience! Our waitress Olga was incredibly attentive and made our entire experience amazing! Thank you especially for Olga! We also had several drinks and food all of which were delicious! The service was also very nice and fast, I highly recommend checking the lake out on your visit to Greece!

A hidden gem for sure - more of a beach club than we were expecting but it’s very relaxed with a great array of amenities (showers, bar, restaurant). It’s a beautiful setting and the doctor fish were a great add to the experience. Staff aren’t the most welcoming or attentive but the food was tasty. Would recommend!
Georgina B — Google review
Had a wonderful time at the lake today, we got there for about 11-11.30 (via metro and bus, took an hour) and queued for 10 minutes. Didn’t ask for student identification and we easily managed to get two sunbeds as there was still many available. It was lovely vibe. Foods quite pricey for small portions and not a lot of vegetarian options, just tomato basil pasta or margherita pizza as the two hot mains. We spent a few hours here, loved the fish. Water was SO salty! Not seen anyone else post about how salty it was, suprised me a lot! The lake was pretty cold despite it saying 25 degrees but fair enough. Changing facilities were good. Only two cubicles for female toilets though which surprised me. I enjoyed the experience as a whole!

This place is just suuuuper cool👍👍 Enjoyed it just a to the beginning of March, sunny weather. Sun is very warm, but not burning, temperature in the lake is very refreshing. Lake is surrounded by the high rocks, so there is no wind there, just a smooth breeze. All what you need on weekend!! and it is very close to Athens 👍
Maxim N — Google review
Absolutely great idea to visit this lake. Come early as the sunbeds get occupied pretty fast by lunch time. No sunscreen allowed into the water, which is perfect in my opinion. Food and drinka available as well as wheelchair access.
Diana S — Google review
This is a spectacular lake and chill beach club. It is such great spot to spend the day but the bad service of the staff there really let it down. I visited in June 2024 and had a wonderful experience in a cabana with my family. I even wrote an 3-page feature article about the Athens Riviera mentioning it and Abraovato for Robb Report ANZ where I was the assistant editor at the time. This year my visit today was still beautiful but the service was underwhelming. There was a mix up with my booking on the door which resulted in the blonde female manager in charge being very rude to on the door acting aggressively from the start. Then after settling down to read in our pre-booked lounge chairs for 50 euro (not what we thought wee were getting really) we ordered mineral water and coffee and decided to make the most of where we were seated. But after our first swim we were then surrounded by two male lifeguards, a swarthy and loud old male pool cleaner, and another two older male service people who gossiped very loudly right behind us for over 25 -30 minutes which made me very uncomfortable and made it hard to concentrate on drawing and reading (let alone sleeping which would have been nice). I didn't come to the beach club to sit around with a bunch of strange men who were supposed to be working and weren't. Every time i turned around they were staring at me. The place was pretty empty so we asked to please be moved to a quieter spot and we did move to some chairs right around the back of the lake where we continued reading and sketching the lake. We ordered a salad and a cocktail and moved all our own stuff to some new sun beds that were just in the sun. Again empty beds around us for as far as the eye could see Then we were getting prepared to relax when the blonde female manager came back over and told us we had to pay another 60 euro to stay on the sunbeds. So instead of staying until 6.00pm and eating and drinking as we had intended and having a snooze there went to the One &Only for lunch in Glyfada where the service, pool and bar is impeccable. This beach club could have made our stay so pleasant and enjoyable and the unprofessional staff really let it down. Had they offered us an upgrade to start with and some good service we could have had a great time. I have told so many people about this place and now I will not continue to because there is a nasty attitude in the staff that is truly inexplicable.
Belinda A — Google review
Everything is great. But look on this toilets.??? 17 euros entrance ticket and you can not fix it. You can see a neighbor in another cabin from the hole in that plastic cover. The door is not closing and the button with a mechanism outside

Very beautiful place. But the staff ist handeling und the equipment during opening houers in the afternoon which is very noisy and disturbing. They even take your chairs away you pay for and put yor stuff somewhere else 2h before closing. If one charges about 40 EUR entrance fee clarly wrong.

Well designed mall worth the visit, most of the brands are there ( nothing luxurious), there is variance in the price and tax refund are located there for smooth transaction. Also some coffee shops and restaurants to rest Highly recommended during your visit to Athens
Tarek R — Google review
We stopped here on our way to the airport, and it was a much more pleasant and relaxed shopping experience compared to Athens, which felt hot, crowded, and stressful in comparison. There’s a free luggage storage service available until 8:30 PM, which was really convenient. You’ll find a variety of restaurants, a large supermarket, and cafes with delicious pastries—all at reasonable prices. Most major clothing, footwear, and homeware brands are represented here. We arrived in the early afternoon. Although it was warm, there was a nice breeze. As the weather cooled down later, the place started to fill up with more visitors. One thing that truly stood out was how clean the restrooms were—honestly the cleanest I’ve seen anywhere in the world. The taxi from Athens cost €30 and took about 35 minutes. Just note that to leave the area, you’ll need to order a taxi (Uber works well).
Sharon L — Google review
We stopped here on our way to the airport for some last-minute shopping, and it was pretty cool. The mall has two big sections: an open area and a covered part. It’s spacious and family-friendly, plus there's a playground for the kids. Everything is well-designed and the restrooms are impressively clean. The Guest Services provides a free luggage storage service for tourist shoppers, but you need to show a plane ticket to use it. You can find all kinds of restaurants, a supermarket, and cafes with yummy pastries, and everything's reasonably priced. Most of the stores are branded, offering good deals on clothes, shoes, and household stuff. Just make sure to keep your receipts so you can get a tax refund for your purchases at the airport. The only downside is that there's no store for authentic Athens souvenirs, which is kind of a bummer.
Bernie — Google review
Amazing! So many brands with great special offers. Totally worth spending the whole day here, visit both the premium section and the part with Zara, Sinsay, etc. There’s also a playground area for kids, making it perfect for families.

Athens Designer Outlet is a shopper’s paradise! A great mix of international and Greek brands with impressive discounts all year round. The layout is spacious and easy to walk around, with plenty of cafés and restaurants for a break between shopping. It’s clean, well-organized, and has a relaxed atmosphere that makes the whole experience enjoyable rather than stressful. Convenient parking and friendly staff make it even better. Perfect for a day out if you love fashion and great deals!

Highly recommended perfect place to visit on your last day in Athens You can easily spend the whole day here without noticing the time it’s a beautiful and spacious outlet with so many great stores and a relaxing atmosphere. Most luxury brands are outlet stores, so you can find amazing deals and very reasonable prices. There are also a lot of popular brands like Zara and Pull&Bear… The place looks modern, elegant, and clean, and they even offer a free luggage storage service, so you can leave your suitcases and shop comfortably. We went straight from the outlet to the airport it was super easy We just took a bus to the train station, then a train directly to the airport everything was smooth and convenient
Sireen S — Google review
As with most outlets all over the world, the architectural layout and the brands displayed are similar. It has a very relaxed atmosphere. Because of the physical layout, visitors are not shielded from the rains if they want to move from shop to shop unless they use the underground carpark. When I was there on Monday, there wasn't many people. It opens at 10 in the morning.

Attica Zoological Park

Attica Zoological Park, located near Athens, is more than just a typical zoo. The park focuses on conservation and offers visitors the chance to see a wide variety of animals in environments that mimic their natural habitats. Highlights include dolphin shows, lemurs' enclosure, and interactive experiences like feeding giraffes with prepared salad. The large zoo also features picnic areas, a playground for kids, and a cafe with views of the giraffes' enclosure.
We visited the Attica Zoo on our last day in Athens and had a great time. The zoo is clean, well-organized, and home to a wide variety of animals — a real treat for any animal lover. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed visit. We went in the late afternoon and unfortunately missed the dolphin attraction, which opens on specific times and closes earlier (4:30 PM). There was a small sign at the entrance, but it would have been helpful if the staff had mentioned it. One small downside: with the heat, it would’ve been nice to have more places to grab a drink inside, aside from the main shop at the entrance. Overall, a wonderful experience and definitely worth a visit!
Arnaud V — Google review
I love this Zoo. We come with my son who is now 2 for over the year every weekend. We come less in summer, as it is hot. Its amazing zoological park with big variety of animals. Animals overall seems to get a great care. One thing tho, I really dont like how they "care" for rabbits! Im an owner of the rabbit fo over 12 years and the care they get at zoo is absolutely inadequate. They should do afoption program for them there. But real and seriouse one, maybe to partner with shelter, etc... And I do belive the seals need a much bigger pool. Also I wish the owner could participate with nice coffee shops and spread them around the territory. So people can have wariety of options. Also I do belive place can benefit from more programs like : buy a steak for Lion, or buy some food for animal of choice and you can see him fed by our stuff at certain hours. Thats will bring more money and more returned visitors and more visitors in general. We have annual path. Its amazing park otherwise to come to.
Alina S — Google review
Very nice organized zoo close to Athens, very close to the airport. It has a large variety of exhibits. The dolphins pool is unique, I have never seen that kind of activity in a zoo. The Asian elephants are great. The butterflies area is also very nice. Has a lot of spots to seat, with plenty of shadow. The crew was very helpful, the place well maintained, and not crowded.
Victor A — Google review
We really enjoyed our visit, so much we stayed 6 hours! If you have young kids, renting a trolley is worth it as there is obviously a lot of walking. Regardless of what you think of zoos, the zoo is clean, animals seem healthy and happy and it’s a great educational environment for children to learn to respect the planet and the animal kingdom. A fantastic day out!
Apollo G — Google review
It was a wonderful experience, especially the Lemurian therapy :)) ! There is great variety of animals and they are very well taken care of. The trail is beautiful with trees and greenery. We spent aroud 3h but you need around 4h-4:30h to see everything.
Anca R — Google review
Amazing experience for my little boy 💙 I know he won't remember today's activities but he enjoyed it the most, so we decided it's good for his brain development to repeat this activity every year until he is old enough to create meaningful memories with his family 😁 until next time then!!!
Elena H — Google review
I can't say enough good things about this zoo. It's clear from the moment you walk in that the staff genuinely cares about the animals and their well-being. Every animal looked incredibly well-maintained, healthy, and clean. The enclosures are spacious and meticulously looked after, providing a great environment for the animals. Beyond the animals, the entire zoo was spotlessly clean and well-arranged. The pathways were clear, the landscaping was beautiful, and it was easy to navigate from one exhibit to another. It made for a very pleasant and enjoyable day.
Robert A — Google review
The Athens Zoo is a true oasis of joy for animal lovers. The fact that you don’t have to wait in long lines and can even enter certain areas to feed the animals makes the experience truly wonderful. It’s a beautiful, relaxing place filled with special moments.

The Temple of Poseidon in Sounion offers a truly special experience, especially during sunset. The sight of the sun dipping below the Aegean horizon and painting the sky with vibrant colors is simply captivating. Even without the sunset, the endless sea views are equally amazing. Located 45km from Athens, it's considered one of Greece's best spots. Visitors can book a guided tour from Athens or rent a car to get there and witness this beautiful temple against the backdrop of an incredible sunset.
Took a while to get there from Athens but it is worthy. It was very cloudy that day so the sunset was not really visible. But it os amazing how the ancient Greeks decide to honor Poseidon in such a magnificent place. The nice thing was there was a holiday in Greece and the entrance was free!
Guillermo Q — Google review
The trip was about an hour and a half from where i'm staying. But after you get out of the hustle and bustle, the trip was awesome. A lot of places you could pull over and take pictures or just pull over and go down to the shore. The temple itself was twenty euros, which seemed kind of high. But I did have a good time and got plenty of pictures.
Janice K — Google review
The temple is beautiful, but the tickets are a little expensive for how much time you can actually spend here. This is definitely one of the best places you can watch the sunset from, though. We went on a semi-cloudy day, and even then the sunset was stunning. There is also a cafe that is nice to take some time to relax at, since if you're staying in Athens it is a bit of a drive.
Madison H — Google review
A beautiful place in itself, but the unjustifiably high price of €20 made us turn back and take a free walk in another part of the peninsula, where the views were just as breathtaking. Is the price of watching the sunset — even next to such a stunning temple — really comparable to the entrance fee for Mycenae, Corinth, or Epidaurus, where, in addition to the ruins, you also visit a museum and get a wealth of information? A highly promoted tourist spot — deservedly so for its amazing views, but not for its price.
Lyubov T — Google review
Well worth the visit. Beautiful spot for sunset or sunrise just pity cant buy tickets in advance and so creates lenghty lines to get in . One desk to buy tickets . Bathrooms another long line for ladies especialy.
Sanita K — Google review
This place is just magical during sunset.🌄 It was actually raining when we got there and just before the sunset at 18:30, the weather turned. There was also a beautiful rainbow🌈 Don't buy tickets in advance due to weather conditions, so just buy on the spot.
Gwendolyn L — Google review
Visiting the Temple of Poseidon was an unforgettable experience. The temple itself is truly majestic, standing tall for more than 2,000 to 3,000 years and offering a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Greek history. The surrounding sea views are breathtaking, and when combined with the temple’s presence, it feels almost magical. The highlight of the visit was without doubt the sunset. It is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, with the colors reflecting over the Aegean Sea and the temple glowing in the evening light. The road leading to the temple was also a wonderful part of the journey, with scenic views all along the way. A must-visit when in Greece! 🌅🏛️
Nirmal S — Google review
The temple on the edge of the sea is a magnificent view. It's definitely worth it to visit. It's not so hard to get to there from Athens with the public transport. You can take the bus to Sunion which cost only 6.20 euros in direction. We took it from the Singrou-fix at around 11 o'clock. The trip to there takes around two hours and the road is very beautiful by the sea. The entrance ticket is 20 euros. There is coffee/restaurant there. The bus will drop you off right to the entrance of the temple.

Paralia Koundouros

Beach
Outdoor Activities
One of the best beach we visited in the Cyclades islands. We went when there were fewer people, which definitely provided a better experience than during peak times. The water is crystal clear, shallow, and the beach is sandy
Stano B — Google review
Beatiful beach with crystal clear shallow water ideal for kids. You can either get the sunbeds for 40€ or set yourselves in the free zone which is to the left as well as to the right from the beach club. There is a nice restaurant and bar serving delicious food and good drinks.
Martina J — Google review
This beach bar has nice food good service and the atmosphere was amazing. The beach itself was super clean and barely any rocks.
Evangelos R — Google review
While it’s nice to have beach loungers, they are absolutely overpriced at 40 euros per set, the umbrellas are not all high quality meaning there are pieces missing and therefore not providing full sun coverage but the water is the biggest reason for why you shouldn’t come to this beach….the amount of trash in the water was shocking, pieces of plastic, paper, etc. it was the least clear I’ve seen of any ocean water in Greece. The restaurant attached is fine for a meal but I wouldn’t bother with this beach
Ellary R — Google review
They do NOT let you move the sunbeds! If you want shade, then tough luck. You pay 40 euro to stay in 1 spot in the hot sun. There is also lounge music on the beach which again is unlike any other beach in Kea. Noisy, rude staff, rigid and nonsense rules.
Ioana D — Google review
Tried to move the sunbed 1-2 meters in the shadow since it was very sunny and I was denied by the staff under the reason that all sunbeds should be in line. I find this rude. Left immediately. This is the opposite of greek hospitality and leisure vibes. Don’t recommend.
Stefan N — Google review
Nice beach..nothing extremely exceptional but good nonetheless. Clean water. Not big, not small (review doesn't include sunbeds service which is pricey for the setup)

Outdoor Activities
Paralia Kolona is the most famous beach on the island, featuring a stunning double bay with a thin strip of sand leading to an offshore islet. During low season, it's a favorite spot for yachts to anchor, while in high season it can get quite crowded. Accessible by sea taxi from Merihas or via a hilly road from Apokrousi beach, this unique beach offers beautiful natural surroundings.
The most popular beach of the island and one of the most popular of the Cyclades islands! The strip of land is wider than it seems from the pictures! My suggestion is to be visited at mid-day as sun brings out all the beauty of this beach. Lots of boats and yachts at both sides of the beach Access by regular car is possible...the most difficult part is the steep first kilometer after apokrousi beach where the road is too narrow. Lots of YouTube video to clearly check this dirt road.
Ton B — Google review
Nice beach with quite dirty sand but still worth to visit (via boat from Merichas 14 euro both ways). Unfortunately the only place to eat or have water is closed. Also a gate to the church on the hill is closed at the moment and not possible to open it unless you climb the rock fence.
Ola D — Google review
The road to the beach isn’t as bad as people say! You can get there with a regular car – it’s just a bit narrow and unpaved, so if you meet another car you’ll need to coordinate a bit, but with caution you can definitely go with a regular car. No need for a boat, even though lots of people will tell you otherwise The beach is amazing.
Geo G — Google review
Not easy to reach by car as some 200 meters are very narrow even for one car! As there were more the 60 boats and yachts the water was not clear so the swim was less 3 seconds! But this piece of stand land is amazing!
Kaloussa N — Google review
Avoid at peak season (mid August) if you like quiet and not too crowded beaches. Otherwise nice sandy beach , good for swimming and SuP when the wind is northerly

Beach Kolones in Kythnos is a hidden paradise that promises a unique and tranquil escape. The golden sands blend with the azure Aegean Sea, framed by rugged cliffs that enhance its exclusivity. The unspoiled charm of Beach Kolones offers a serene atmosphere, a welcome break from crowded tourist spots. Snorkeling reveals vibrant marine life. Prepare with essentials and embark on an unforgettable journey to this hidden gem. The addition of Kolona Experience Bar – Restaurant is a must-visit for those seeking an unforgettable culinary adventure. It's more than a restaurant – it's a celebration of taste, art, and innovation.
PETROS P — Google review
A beautiful special beach with clear water. Unfortunately, due to the closeness of Athens, there is a lot of boats here especially on the weekends. It can get very crowded. There is more pleasant beaches on the island close to this one, so you don’t necessarily need to stay where everybody is staying. On the north western shore there is a little side beach that has a volcanic thermal spring with clear 38° water just on the beach. It is almost hidden and you can only see it when you are walking on the beach.
Markus D — Google review
A place of unreal beauty. For sailing enthusiasts, this is a great place. For many the beginning of long tours and for some safe place and excellent protection from all winds. We have been many times and every time we approach Kolona beach we feel the same charm from the beginning.

Psili Ammos, one of the most beautiful beaches in Serifos, is easily accessible and popular among visitors. The beach features fine sand that feels like a massage underfoot and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming. Despite its popularity, the area remains peaceful with two traditional tavernas offering delicious Greek cuisine. While reaching the beach involves descending a significant number of stairs and parking on the roadside, the stunning sea views and serene atmosphere make it worth the effort.
Best beach in Serifos with thin sand and fantastic clear waters, and some trees for shadow (armyrikia). There are two very nice taverns. Parking is available inside the tavernas, otherwise you have to park in the street and walk down a few metres..

Sweet beach, one of the best. I dont mind the waves. Good restaurants. Where is the parking for beach only?
Huge B — Google review
We loved the fine sand and lush “armyriki” trees on the beach providing good shade. The wind was very strong and the waves were crashing onto the beach, making it hard to swim, but there was very little whiplash from the sand (“ammovoli “). Will come back.
Konstantinos R — Google review
Amazing bay with Crystal clear water, you need to park on the side of the road and go by foot for five minutes down to the beach, but it’s worth it. You have two nice taverns and a lot of trees you could sit under and have the best time .
Abigail W — Google review
Beautiful beach, soft sand and water is not too cold. Can be a tad windy, but doesn’t take away from how nice the beach is.

Wonderful beach with dreamlike water Nice to have a choice of two taverns
Martyn G — Google review
Very nice beach, unspoiled but with a couple of tavernas (which I did not try). Not easily accessible (there is a bus) and the steps down might discourage some (the better for those who make it!)

This hotel was the best hotel we ever had on the Cycladic islands. Authentic, excellent located and extrem friendly service. The warm-hearted owner family supports you with everything you need. We had a beautiful sea view room with a balcony facing the Aegean sea. Is there something more beautiful than in the morning to open the shades and look into the deep blue sea. They serve a small breakfast which you pick and enjoy on your own terrace. The rooms are very quite and guarantee and excellent sleep.

The Cyclades Olive Museum in Ano Pitrofos has gained recognition as one of the top museums in Greece. Visitors praise the engaging and informative tours led by Dimitris Chelmis, who shares insights into the history and techniques of olive oil production. The museum, though small, offers a unique experience as it is housed in a 400-year-old building with architectural stone arches.
We didn’t know what to expect from the museum ‘cause it looked very small, but it was very exciting, interesting and fun! The museum is owned by Dimitris. His parents used to produce olive oil in the old mill (the museum). He speaks about the production with a lot of passion and also interacts with his guests. I would highly recommend visiting this museum when you’re in Andros! Ps. There’s no ticket needed :)
Malou H — Google review
A true gem and one of the best experiences on the island! Dimitri has lovingly restored this small olive press museum, bringing his family's legacy back to life. His storytelling is engaging, funny, and moving, offering a fascinating insight into both olive oil production and his personal history. The museum’s small size adds to its charm, making for an intimate and memorable visit. Perfect for spending 1–2 hours, would highly recommend and we would return if we were ever to come back to Andros
Matt R — Google review
This is something that should be considered as a unique experience. It's a story telling via personal experience about how family history comes together with olive oil and restoration of this ancient olive mill. It gives an extra apart that the owner tailors each tour. Size of the museum does not matter, you walk away with great knowledge and really personal touch which often nowadays is lacking. Check the opening times in advance.
Sabina R — Google review
What a fantastic museum this is! Dimitris is a wonderful guide, he is so passionate and knowledgeable. He gave us a splendid tour, we learned so much and it was so interesting and fun. Highly recommend!!!
Marieke B — Google review
This museum is very cute, interesting and personal. The owner runs the tours himself and he is very proud of what he had put together. You can learn a lot about olive oil and you get a feel for the central role it plays in the Greek (and Mediterranean) culture and the importance for its people. It is also interesting for (teenage) children.
Axel W — Google review
Dimitri the owner of his family oil mill was terrific, lots of history and technical information about how things work. The 400 year old building is a very unique structure with architectural stone arches. No entry fee but donations accepted.

Fantastic tour. Dimitris is one of a kind. Beautiful information
Panajotis P — Google review
I've visited this museum today and it's easily one of the best experiences I've had in a museum even though it's quite small. The owner and restorer, Dimitri, guides you around the mill and tells you about the history of olive oil and the procedure of making it. The coolest thing about it is that after he restored it himself after the mill being abandon in 1960, he and local farmers and his parents made olive oil there and he documented the whole thing for everybody to see. A very interesting museum even for people who normally aren't interested in olive oil. Definitely a recommended visit.

Great exhibition of Mytaras, but I was very disappointed about the building: it stands on a privileged point of Chora by the sea, but it has no windows at all! What a waste of a wonderful view that could have been combined with great art. You feel like in a basement. It’s quite claustrophobic.

Galissas Beach - The Perfect Syros Getaway Galissas Beach is truly a gem on the beautiful island of Syros, easily offering one of the most complete and enjoyable beach experiences in the Cyclades. It manages to perfectly balance natural beauty with excellent organization, making it ideal for all types of travelers, especially families. The Perfect Beach Setup, The beach is characterized by its lovely stretch of soft, golden sand and the crystal-clear, shallow waters that are perfect for swimming. Many visitors note the gentle slope of the seabed, which allows children to play safely. The beach is well-sheltered, making the water calm and inviting, often described as having the clarity of a swimming pool. Amenities and Vibe, What sets Galissas apart is the convenience. You have the choice of relaxing on the organized sections with comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas, or finding a quieter spot on the free section of sand. The area is backed by a great selection of tavernas and cafes where you can grab a cold drink or a traditional Greek meal without having to travel far. The atmosphere is consistently described as laid-back and peaceful, avoiding the rowdy crowds found at some other major island beaches. Stunning Scenery, The surrounding scenery is also a major draw. The beach is flanked by the towering rock formation of Agia Pakou, where you can take a short, rewarding walk up to a charming little church offering breathtaking panoramic views of the bay, especially beautiful around sunset. Galissas Beach is an absolute must-visit on Syros. It’s clean, well-equipped, naturally gorgeous, and provides everything you need for a relaxing day by the Aegean Sea. We highly recommend spending a few days here!

Visitors can enjoy the contrast of the white church against the blue sea and explore the area with a friendly caretaker who speaks English. Nearby, there are unorganized beaches with pebbles and simple taverns offering sea views.
An experience of its own. A wonderful church built on top of a rock that offers a wonderful experience and has a lot of lores and tales to tell! ❤️ You can also opt for taking a swim besides as there are certain rock formations that allow for that. The Town Hall of Ermoupolis, located in Miaouli Square, is a grand neoclassical building designed by Ernst Ziller in the late 19th century. The architectural blend includes Ionic and Tuscan elements, with a 15m monumental staircase leading to the front door. The interiors boast dazzling beauty with majestic stairs and soft morning light. Visitors can admire paintings and sculptures in the foyer and internal courtyards.
The city hall of Ermoupolis is a building disigned by Ernest Tsiller and been constructed between 1875 and 1891.The impresion that this beautiful building leaves you is that it looks more like a palace! Don t hesitate going inside and explore all the floors. Its free!! There is a small cafe also in the ground floor. Definitely recommend this place while you visit Syros
Dimitris K — Google review
10+1 things you must know about the City Hall of Hermoupolis on Miaouli Square: 1. This magnificent building, the biggest and certainly one of the most architecturally important Town Halls in Greece, has three floors on the side overlooking the square and two floors in the rear due to the ground’s incline. 2. It was built in 1876 under the supervision of German-Bavarian architect Ernst Ziller (he is the man behind the Academy of Athens and the Apollo Municipal Theatre of Patra) and inaugurated in 1898. 3. Its design draws architecturally on three different styles: Tuscan, Ionic, and Corinthian. 4. The building’s outstanding features include a princely staircase 15.5 meters high, two wings with five vertical window axes right and left, towers, a marble pediment and portraits of former Syros mayors. 5. The second floor is of Ionic style and the towers are of Korinthian style. The central part is entirely made of marble and you will see an inscription explaining that the Municipality of Hermes erected this building in the honor of mayor Vafiadakis. 6. On the left of the staircase, there is the bust of Mayor Vafiadakis (1804-1898). 7. The hall of the municipal council meetings is of particular interest: In the lobby there are the portraits of all Mayors, in the room you will see oil paintings of King George I (1864-1912) and Queen Olga, by artist Prosalentis. 8. In 1998 the building was renovated, the glass roof was reconstructed and artist Anna Vassilaki used original designs by Ziller to paint the walls of the building. 9. The Town Hall also hosts the Archaeological Museum of Syros, the Court of Law and some other public services. 10. By a ministerial decree of 1980, it has been identified as a work of art (masterpiece). +1: inside the City Hall you will also find a vintage carriage that belonged to Princess Sissi (the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, image 5) and the coat of arms of the city of Ermoupolis (image 8).

The Town Hall of Ermoupolis is located in Miaouli Square which is the main square. The Town Hall is open for visits every day (Monday to Friday) from 9:00 to 15:00. Located here are also the Courthouse, the Land Registry, the Archaeological Museum and other public services. On the upper floor is where the meetings were held. You’ll see old oil paintings of King George I and Queen Olga. There is also a courtyard and cafe. Worth a visit at no charge for the general public.
Melanie E — Google review
Built in 1876 under the supervision of Ernst Ziller, the Town Hall of Ermoupolis on Miaouli square is one of the largest and most impressive Town Halls in all of Greece totally made in marble. Other noteworthy elements of the Town Hall are the hanging ladder at the entrance, the bust of D. Bafiadakis, the boardroom and the portraits of former mayors. The Town Hall houses the courts, the land registry, the archaeological museum and various other public bodies and municipal services which are open to the public from Monday to Friday from 8:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs. If you have some time, do not forget to go inside and take a walk along.
Carlos R — Google review
Ermoupolis City Hall - A Cycladic Masterpiece The Ermoupolis City Hall is not just a municipal building; it is the breathtaking architectural crown jewel of Syros and one of the most magnificent neoclassical structures in all of Greece. Standing proudly at the head of Miaouli Square, it dominates the cityscape and leaves an indelible impression on every visitor. Architectural Grandeur, Designed by the famous German architect Ernst Ziller, the City Hall is a testament to the prosperity and importance of Ermoupolis in the 19th century. Its sheer size and imposing facade, constructed with marble from Mount Penteli (the same marble used for the Parthenon), command immediate attention. The massive staircase leading up to the main entrance is iconic and provides a perfect photo opportunity. The combination of its Renaissance-inspired elements and the sheer scale makes it feel more like a palace than a local government office. A Vibrant Heart, The building perfectly frames Miaouli Square, one of the most beautiful squares in Greece. Even if you don't go inside, simply admiring the building from the square and soaking in the atmosphere is a highlight of any trip to Syros. The square is the vibrant social heart of the town, constantly buzzing with life, cafés, and cultural events. Must-See Interior, While the exterior is stunning, many reviews encourage visitors to step inside and explore the opulent interior. Highlights include the main staircase, the beautifully preserved council chambers, and the sense of history that permeates the halls. It is a striking representation of the neoclassical period and showcases the island's rich heritage. Visiting Ermoupolis City Hall is essential for anyone exploring Syros. It is a spectacular piece of architecture that embodies the dignity and history of this beautiful island capital.
Yaron C — Google review
A very beautiful building designed by Tsiller. It is one of the main landmarks of Ermoupolis, located in the main square of the town. This should be the first place to visit if you find yourselves in Syros, even for a couple of hours. 5 stars, highly recommended!
D0rian7 — Google review
The Syros Town Hall is, without a doubt, one of the most impressive and beautiful Town Halls in all of Greece, dominating the magnificent Miaouli Square. Designed by the legendary German architect Ernst Ziller, its construction began in 1876 and was completed around 1891-1898, symbolizing the immense wealth and cultural peak of Ermoupoli in the 19th century. The neoclassical design is stunning, blending Tuscan, Ionic, and Corinthian styles across its facade. However, the interior is where the architectural genius truly shines. The building features two atria, but the main focal point is the monumental internal staircase. This majestic suspended staircase is an engineering marvel, and looking up, you see it's covered by a beautiful glass roof (skylight), which floods the entire central hall with natural light. It's a truly brilliant design feature. The building also houses the Archaeological Museum of Syros in its ground floor. A true gem and a symbol of an era!

The Museum of Marble Crafts above Pyrgos is a well-curated and modern complex that creatively explains the techniques of quarrying and sculpting. It includes beautifully illustrated displays with English translations, films, and top examples of architectural features made from Tinian marble. The museum is part of the Piraeus Bank Cultural Foundation's network and often referred to as the Louvre of Tinos.
This is a must-see. Do not miss it. It is a little bit hidden, and a slightly steep climb from the village square, but definitely worth it. It is not a large museum, but really well done. It will take you maybe an hour, depending on how interested you are. Check the openings hours before you go, just in case.
Per J — Google review
Nestled in the picturesque village of Pyrgos on the Cycladic island of Tinos, the Museum of Marble Crafts is an unexpected cultural treasure that offers a deep dive into one of Greece’s most celebrated artistic traditions: marble carving. Far from a typical museum experience, this place is a living homage to the craft that shaped both the island and significant parts of Greek architectural and artistic heritage. The museum, operated by the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, beautifully blends history, artistry, and hands-on education. It’s not just about looking at marble statues—though there are many fine examples—but about understanding the entire journey of marble: from the rugged quarries to the sculptor’s studio. The museum structure itself, designed to harmonize with the local architecture, is an ode to simplicity and elegance—just like the art it honors. Large windows open out to the landscape, where you can imagine ancient craftsmen at work in the nearby quarries. Whether you’re a lover of history, art, or just curious about how something as cold and hard as marble can become so full of life, the Museum of Marble Crafts is a real gem—a must-see on any visit to Tinos.

My mother waited 50 years to come here. Today we made her dream come true. An amazing place for Greek Orthodox Christians to visit once in their lifetimes. We saw a number of pilgrims entering the church on their knees - we were absolutely gobsmacked to realise they started this from the port nearly a kilometre away! Visiting again tomorrow.

Attracting thousands and thousands of people every year this church has been standing as the beacon of religion for many years among the believers. Truly an exceptional feeling visiting it, one that you definitely should not miss upon visiting the island. Many believers can be seen crossing the road on their knees moving uphill towards the church, an act of courage and importance among many, and one we should all admire!
Apostolis M — Google review
A place that leaves a deep impression. The church is beautiful inside and out, with countless incense burners hanging from the ceiling that create a truly unique atmosphere. Even more moving is seeing the pilgrims making their way up from the port to the sanctuary on their knees, a powerful sign of devotion.

Second time in this church. The first time was 1 year ago when it had a big celebration with a lot of people lining up to get into the church, so I decided to skip. This time, on a normal Saturday afternoon, there was no line and quite quiet. Strolled around and just admired its peacefulness.

I usually search a lot of a place before stay, and that time I got it right. Such a beautiful place to stay, honest and surprising. The owner is a very nice person, the staff as well good folks. Paradiso is closer to Marcello's beach , which seems a very nice beach, the family type, no music at all (at least during mid Sept period) and there's sunbeds from the hotel to stay at the beach, which is nice. Quiet and calm place to stay with your family/couple, good breakfast, nice balcony, free cover parking. Owner gently gave us a upgrade room when we arrived, a lot of tips from places to go, like restaurant and beaches (which we did love though), sunset views and so forth.. I wish we could have more time to spend here, 4 days seems a short trip. Maybe we can go back in the future to remind this nice time we just had.

Not only a great hotel, but George is an amazing host. The hotel is clean, organized and well located. George assisted us with a car rental, and gave great tips about restaurants and places to visit. Just to make it clear, all the bad reviews I saw here are from the beach club located in front of the hotel.

We stayed in the family suite and it was perfect for our family of 5. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well kept and have a spacious area for eating outdoors or playing games. The hotel has a beautiful view of the sea with a sandy beach and bar within walking distance from the hotel. The owner George was kind and helpful. He was a great host helping us determine places to explore and set us up with a great car service! We will be back next time we’re in Greece!

To save you from a long (albeit - worth it) read, I’ll summarize: any future visits to Greece will be to Paros, staying at Paradiso Boutique Hotel. It was by far one of the best experiences we’ve had, from location to hospitality. 10/10. We had the most incredible stay, with the only downside being we wish we could’ve stayed longer. My husband and I arrived in Paros on a Sunday afternoon. Once the ferry dropped us off at the main port, we easily transferred to a small ferry (basically a water taxi) which transferred us to Marcello beach within 10 minutes. Upon arrival, we walked no more than 8 minutes (along the beach) to Paradiso Boutique Hotel (incredibly accessible!) Upon arrival, we were greeted so warmly, shown to our room, shown where breakfast would be, and were told if we needed anything at all, not to hesitate to ask. Owners, George and Filip, quickly started to feel like life-long friends. Both Monday and Tuesday we had dinner reservations in different towns within Paros. Filip was able to offer discounted transportation on both days (a huge win on any of the Greek Islands) and offered informative and meaningful conversations along the way. On Wednesday, due to strong winds, the boat tour we had scheduled was cancelled. We wound up relaxing at Cabana beach club that day, where we mentioned to Filip we’d love if he could join us. To our pleasant surprise, he arrived with George and friends later in the afternoon where they joined us for drinks, dancing, and a great time. They introduced us to other friends and family, and we soon realized we were welcomed as a part of their local community. Overall, we are lucky enough to have seen this beautiful island and meet friends that we hope to keep for years to come. It is clear this is not a business, but a passion and love for George and Filips community.

What a wonderful stay at this hotel. George, Phillipe and the entire staff made us feel so welcome. They had great tips on places to go and eat. Helped us with our car rental and mapped out all the places we should see. We loved the location and the beach was perfect. The hotel os super clean and the breakfast is great. The beach bar restaurant in front is great if your in the mood for some music and chair and umbrella rentals are possible , a couple minutes further down are more chair and umbrella rental and quiet atmosphere and also cheaper. There is also places you can just lay on the beach for free. I notice some reviews on the hotel are about the beach bar restaurant and to be clear they have nothing to do with the hotel. The only thing they have in common is beach access which is fantastic and so close so I’m not sure why they would give the hotel a bad review. The hotel also has its own parking lot so no need to try and use the one for the beach bar. We hope to come back and stay again!

My Wife and I booked a room for our stay in Paros, everything was amazing. From beginning to end we felt like special guests here because of the care of George and his staff. George went above and beyond, he made sure to procure a scooter that was not only safe but brand new, something he does for all his guests. We highly recommended to rent a scooter through George. Our experience was unforgettable and, we highly recommend staying at the Paradiso if you want a great location with amazing views and only a short ride to Paraikos. Amazing stay, thank you George and team.

Paros, an island in the Cyclades, is home to Parikia, its capital and main port. The town features narrow cobbled paths, old churches, small shops, and houses adorned in blue and white. One of the most impressive religious complexes in the Aegean is Panayia Ekatontapyliani. It includes a large central church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, a Baptistery, and several chapels dating back to different periods.

The Holy Shrine of the Virgin Mary Ekatontapyliani, also known as the Church of a Hundred Doors, is a significant Byzantine-era stone church located in Parikia. Dating back to the 4th century, it is one of the oldest and best-preserved Christian monuments globally. The church houses rare icons and historic artwork, including pieces from an ancient temple within its courtyard. It is also home to the Byzantine Museum.
The Holy Shrine of the Virgin Mary was beautiful!! AKA- Church of 100 doors. Always be respectful when visiting, they have a limited number of wraps for women for cover ups and they ask for quiet. Really worth it as it is so close to the port. Like all of the churches, there are candles for you to light with a donation to help support the Shrine. We were there mid May and it was not crazy busy. Very beautiful, no charge to enter as well.

The Church of 100 Doors (Panagia Ekatontapiliani) is an absolute must-see when visiting Paros. It’s a stunning and historic site with a calm and spiritual atmosphere that immediately makes you slow down and take it all in. The architecture is beautiful, and it’s fascinating to wander around and discover the different chapels and details within the complex. As someone who isn’t religious, I still found it truly fascinating to see how much significance the locals give to the church and its traditions. Watching the deep respect and devotion was in itself a unique experience. Even if you’re not particularly religious, the sense of history and tranquility makes it worth a visit. This said however, it is not something far of special from other churches.

Absolutely beautiful. Give yourself some time if you can. We only had about 30 minutes while we were waiting for the ferry and I SO wish I’d had more time to just sit and be there for a little while. Gorgeously maintained, absolute gem.

The church has an excellent display of icons and frescoes. Admission to the museum also allows the into the second level of the church and the babistery which are well worth the 3€ charge.

Walking distance form the port One of the oldest churches Beautiful place, croissing a cloister before accessing it Even if you have few minutes before catching a ferry… it a not missed place

Beautiful church to visit. They have shawls by the church entrance to cover bare shoulders, out of respect. The marble carvings and artistry all around are wonderful. I'd recommend learning a bit about it's history with a quick search beforehand to make the visit even more meaningful.

Only 3 Euro gives you access to the museum and additional areas of the cathedral. Don't forget to look up as you wander or you will miss many frescoes.

A wonderful church with an ancient history. Well worth the time to visit along with the museum.
